... I don't know what to say really, just... the latest arc has been extremely good, I can't recommend it enough, for all the slow translation, it's very worth it. Please give it a try, I'm sure you'll eventually enjoy it somehow.

It's very good. It's like a cross between Mother of Learning and Liar Game.

Although the MC has op skills he didn't use it to strengthen himself (not mainly). His main focus is still climbing the tower. He is very smart and knows how to use his skills effectively.

For me, the main attraction of this novel is the characterization. Every characters is interesting and unique. The story itself emphasize a lot about human emotions and trials, and how people react to it.

The story starts like just any light novel with weak... more>> MC that stumble upon an OP skill. But the story will get interesting when you see how he decide to take revenge on his first enemy. And when he reached floor 10 the story will only keep getting better. <<less

Update: reading on, from ch 51

Ive noticied, the author is really good at writing, with how he presents the story to the reader and literary techniques and language (thank you translator for conveying that!). Seriously, I admire how he tells the reader whats happening over the huge spanses of time in an interesting and artistic way. His wordplay is astounding.

but, they have plot holes. I got over it bc the rest was so enthralling. Especially the comedy.

And I love how MC is dumbfounded by and stares at the insane hunters... more>> when he himself is so insane

Ex of plot hole:
Spoiler

on 21st floor hunters read books and feel emotional bc they're so good yet end in s*upid ways. But then when they enter the world of the book they don't know that the sickness is zombies. If they read the book and felt bad then the old guy who read it shouldve known it all and thus been important enough to be included. But this wasnt even considered by the author.

[collapse]

(spoilers below)

ok I almost dropped it near ch 25 but then I picked it back up and CHAPTERS AROUND 45-51 WERE SOOO EPIC!

like when MC talked back to first constellation how the Devil King was my game so please don't touch it

OOOOH I GOT THE CHILLLS

and how he bsed on the 20th floor!

and I ended up really liking his character, how he doesn't desire attention from everyone, but acknowledgment and from powerful ppl and how completely fine he is w going through basically years worth of regressing for his morals/goals without anyone knowing. But it isnt like Holy mary level of fakeness, He unabashedly flaunts it, hes proud of it, he literally said it, no yelled it into the middle of a whole city!

tl;dr this is an awesome fic, it just takes a while to show. Everything comes together really nicely.

one thing I do wonder is how the grampa would and did react to MCs kill count rising even under 24/7 watch. <<less

Look, this is one of those stories that is more about the characters than the action. Very similar in world bulding to Second Coming of Glutony. MC is kinda of OP but doesn't matter because is not about defeating the stronger enemies, is about the process, the emotional aspect. It has a certain uneven start, like is finding it's genre, but by chapter 47 is a really good story and I wish there were more chapters to binge read.

This only a preliminary review because I hope that more people stumble into this novel.

Overall the setting isn't much different from the average Korean World Disaster/Tower/Dungeon trope. The MC is lacking but becoming better. The world-building is slowly but developing.

The main reason this book gets 4 stars is the beginning of the novel, the envy struck MC just wants to have a cool badass power and basically gets slapped with a super op one-time power out of pity. When he dies his power can copy another power from the person/thing... more>> that killed him. Honestly, if they keep the powers interesting and refrain from only giving out useful powers this book could become one of my favorites.

Overall 4/5 (Temporary) <<less

Was unique. Bcs of his unearthly envy he got the most useless skill, however he was lucky and basically tranformed it in the most powerful one.

It was interestingly how his envy turned in hate and he su*cided 4000 times to get his vengeance. However, what now??? He is left with the most powerful and tbh anti-climatic skill and plot is as usual as it can get from what I can see.

In the end I don't see a reason to read this guy with the most typical hero syndrome and skill... more>> that doesn't generate any hype. Further more, his skill is through you can say "glitch" enhanced so his choice isn't even random anymore. It makes it more boring.

It's very predictable and similar to other novels as well, not that it's necessarily bad. Just I feel there are similar yet better novels like this to read. <<less

It's super entertaining, so it's flaws are barely noticeable for it and it's got some great writing as well.

I'm sorry but only idiots would say that this novel is bad. But I don't really wanna spoil so I can't really go with any further with explanations on that.

You'll basically love it after as you read the first (short) prologue, so at least finish reading up to it, it then sets up some stuff so it gets slow for a while but it slowly builds up to gratifying developments and growth,... more>> unique plots and twists and even though it notably stumbles sometimes getting there, it absolutely nails the important moments, and its cleverly written and pretty cohesive to boot, barring some loss of clarity in the writing itself sometimes (which might just be difficult to translate parts), It's definitely a super fresh gem.

And also the MC is pretty great and stays great, that's not really in question to anyone I think. Or at least it really shouldn't be, speaking super objectively here. He's complex and interesting to watch. It only keeps getting harder to not spoil as I go on, but his character is consistent to anyone who actually paid attention to his actions and thoughts. It's really worth a read, at least up to what's currently translated. <<less

For now the humour is good. Had me laughing quite a few times.

Is this review too short? I don't really have anything to say except that and it's a tower climbing KR novel so... Nothing problematic yet.

I absolutely loved this the MC has an extremely likable personality and has the guts and mental fortitude to follow through with his decisions the end of chapter 17 was extremely sad and hard to read for me but it has a deep emotion behind it that you can’t help but support his decision

I enjoyed this novel a lot. Whilst I personally felt the pacing was off/too fast towards the end, it was a great read that I would definitely recommend to everyone.

The writing is simply beautiful. I enjoyed the interpersonal relationships, and the stories/themes of growth and perseverance, love, etc.

What I liked:

    • The masterful writing.
    • The romance between the MC and FL is great.
    • Early/Mid-arcs.
What I didn't really like:

    • The masterful writing (lol). Well just
      Spoiler

      The Tower Master's arc

      [collapse]
was confusing, and something I had to read a couple of times.
    • The arcs towards the end. I felt it was rushed. In particular,
      Spoiler

The speed it took for him to go from the 51st-100th floor. The death of the Constellation Killer felt too lackluster to me, and his supposed 'saving' of the tower master wasn't really saving??

      [collapse]
It felt like the author just wanted to end it all quickly without rounding off all the little bits of info they introduced into the novel. In saying that, the ending itself did feel decent enough even if I had a few unanswered questions.
TL/DR: Would recommend. Great writing, although sometimes too great. Amazing arcs, themes, and characters, but a slightly lackluster ending.

Without a doubt one of the best translated novels I've read. This work is just beautiful honestly, I could recommend it to anyone into "deeper" novels.

It might not have the best power system, and it's not quite the progression fantasy popcorn I was looking for when I started the novel, it's so much more. Loneliness, life, death, love and hate, I can't think of any novel that explores so many themes so damn well

I want to become just like you

That is the whole premise of this novel. While the main character, Kim Gong-Ja, came off as someone suffering from serious personality disorders, you will eventually realise how his flaws are what make him the most humane character. He is genuinely empathetic and kind, despite how life kept beating down on him. He is also one of the smartest Main characters I have come across, the way he navigated the problems and challenges thrown at him were oftentimes phenomenal.

The supporting characters were definitely a... more>> highlight (I am sure that everyone will see themselves in Viper!) and each had very real emotions, motivations and reasons for coming to the tower and behaving the way that they behaved. Their interactions with the Gong-Ja and the found-family dynamic really did it for me.

Spoiler

I love the romance between the Gong-ja and Raviel. Their love for each other and the Gong-Ja's Simp behaviour is the cutest. I also really appreciated the passing references to homosexuality, like when the tower master married a woman after defeating her.

[collapse]

I loved the pacing of the novel and the action scenes. My only issue with the novel would be how it got a little too abstract at times? And also how certain plotholes or questions were left unanswered at the end of the novel. I really hope that the author provides us with side stories to fully explore these aspects and to do some world building.

I would also like to express my appreciation to the translators (wetriedTLs) for the splendid work - the way they managed to capture the emotions in every chapter is just insane. I would really really recommend this novel to anyone who is looking for an immersive read. <<less

Sorry, I cannot suggest you read this novel. First 150 chapters are alright, it's good until we get to the romance, hell part of the romance is alright but it mightily downgrades past that.

The story starts dark, it's good, the MC struggles to progress and he's definitely a bit of an evil MC and he does what he needs to do. Then, suddenly, be becomes a sissy for a woman, falls mindlessly in love with her for no real reason and he becomes a little sub to her. I'm not... more>> even kidding the MC acts so pathetically over her it's unreal.

Spoiler

They literally fall in love almost instantly. The female is someone who has gone through THIRTEEN deaths trying her damndest to get the heart of the prince she adores. She acts a little deranged for him even, but then, like magic, she doesn't care for the prince and only loves the MC. She turns our male MC into the wife, supposedly due to their culture, so now, in front of others that arent in that world, or even slightly connected to it, our MC is now a wife who is so pathetically into her I am genuinely offput by his character, it comes so far out of left field it does not make sense.

[collapse]

After the romance plot, the story takes a turn. It's no longer about protecting the race and climbing the tower, no, it's about family. The power of love and friendship. Gone is any real sense that the world is in danger, it's just the MC talking to gods as if they're on the same level, acting cheeky with no fear (for no reason might I add) and constantly thinking about his wife.

I tried to keep pushing, I got to chapter 260 or so, he's obsessed over his family that isn't his family and his original character is gone. Rip. <<less

This is one of my favorite all time pieces of media. I just finished the last chapter, and I’m honestly starting to tear up. This is a beautiful story that explores the human condition to some deep levels. I would recommend this to any novel reader with an interest in the title or description. This story led me places I thought a novel never could. Please, read this novel.

While a very good novel I thought or think it would have been better to be more "mature". I just think with the shounen (author plan or not) we missed out on a lot of the depth it could have gone into,

with the romance, with the tower leader/master, with the other constellations. I just felt like the author decided to tone it down after the first 100 or so chapters. With that being said I still think it was well done, I just would have liked more.

overall a good novel. I never found myself losing interest and the ending was well done even if we don't find out more. <<less

I read this a while ago and then decided to reread and finish it in one go.

It's pretty good. I would say it's worth reading. It has its flaws, but it's a good story. I didn't have issues reading 400 chapters except for one arc. I think around Chapter 200 there's an arc that's... pretty pointless and boring imo. It was mainly meant to set up a plot point, but I feel like the author could've made it like idk 5 chapters instead of way more. After that arc ended... more>> though, the story got good again. That arc is literally the one thing I dislike about the novel, and I feel like the novel would be 10x better with it shortened.

The story starts out a bit cringe, but that's part of the charm. The MC is a cringy madlad, and you'll grow to respect him for it /j I also really like how plot points from back at the beginning are relevant later. The characters in the novel are well-developed. The important ones stay relevant and get fleshed out even more.

The emotions are great. The author added meaning to the novel instead of just throwing out a bunch of hype moments + action scenes. The action scenes and hype moments are great, but they feel great because they're backed by the meaning and purpose. The romance is great! No harem, and their love is sweet.

The ending was decent. Not the most epic thing, but it wasn't sudden (you could tell when it was coming), and it wrapped up the novel while kinda leaving room for a sequel if the author wanted to. <<less

He clears the 100th floor and then has a drink with the tower master and the Sword Emperor and press conference and done. That's it and it's amazing.

I absolutely love how ambitious many of the arcs are, so many different concepts and feelings covered with perfectly crafted poetic writing, the many abrupt changes that happen feel more real than anything else I've read.

God damn I love this one. It will be on the reread list until I die and after. <<less

I can definitely recommend this novel.

Its way more laid back than the first few chapters would Suggest.

It comes with everything you would expect from a tower climbing novel. If I had to complain about anything it would be that the romance Was very rushed (but at least no harem) and that there were very long intervalls without any Action.

Still I think the novel was very well written with likeable characters and good World building. I also didn't Notice any glaring plotholes and the ending Was satisfactory.

Some of the criticisms this novel receives appears to be the result of the author not giving all the answers to the reader at the beginning. Once it's important to the plot to understand how something works, you learn about it with the characters.

Also, the takes some people have on the characters are so contrary to what I've read that I wonder if we read the same novel.

I understand why some people are put off by the romance arc, but I found it to be a well timed break from... more>> the previous arc's angst. I read the manhwa version before the novel version and honestly.... words spoken that might make some people cringe definitely made me swoon due to the way it was portrayed. He basically did a speed run through a romance novel (although from his perspective it was months) and I found that hilarious. Yes it came across as rushed/forced romance, but that was the only way it could have been, given the constraints of the level. People would be complaining if it was written all drawn out with emotional drama like an actual romance novel. It was a fun arc for me. <<less

whether its worth reading or not varies from person to person. if theres one thing im sure about, however, is that the romance isnt as terrible as some say. it was fast paced sure, but for a crazy character like gongja who had never experienced romance, its honestly pretty fitting.

Spoiler

the guy dies and dies to save people that wont even remember him when he regresses. wouldnt just finding someone in a similar situation with him make him really curious about her? its pretty obvious hed become smitten

[collapse]

the female characters are really appealing. they arent pointlessly sexualized, and theyre all diverse and wonderfully represented. someone here wrote that gongja shouldve ended up with one of the other female characters instead of the fl, but I disagree. not taking into account the fact that theyre all really old despite their appearances, I like their dynamic with the MC. its so refreshing to see comrades in arms that are purely friends. they also had no chemistry with the MC at all, so I can never see them as love interests

this novel is well written with a lot of plot holes. the concept of tower climbing, time regression and an op skill is cliche but done nicely. gongja starts out as an unlikeable bastard that develops into a heroic suicidal bastard. then he meets the FL and starts to become less of a suicidal bastard for her lol

with many details being added left and right, some of them get buried and almost forgotten... sometimes they do get addressed later on, but oftentimes they just get skipped so you just had to assume that it solved itself in the background but wasnt mentioned in the story. an example of this is gongja dying and regressing back to 24hrs right after he did something really important that also required him to die a few times before succeeding.

Spoiler

like the time he killed the flame emperor. at first I got worried when he dies just a bit later. did he forget to kill the flame emperor again? but this incident was one of the few that got clarified later on. the author mentioned that he did kill the flame emperor a second time.

[collapse]

my least favorite moment in the novel was around chapter 150

Spoiler

when gongja immerses himself in the character of a bully. the way it was written in the first pov made it really hard to read. it was so triggering for someone who was the victim of being bullied. I skipped almost the entirety of that arc yet I didnt really miss out on anything. it was so unnecessary. if it was at least written in 3rd pov or in kim yul's pov, I wouldve read it.

[collapse]

overall, it has a lot of flaws that make me baffled at times. but as a novel, its a wonderful read and was once my favorite novel 2 years ago up until ch120-ish. if youre a fan of novels in the same genre, I recommend it <<less
