“Thanatophobia”

It was a type of illness characterized by an extreme fear of death.

The man, who had severe thanatophobia, was constantly terrified of death, but he died without fulfilling his natural lifespan. Just as he was momentarily freed from the fear of death, by some twist of fate, he was reincarnated and once again began to fear death.

Despairing at the thought of experiencing the fear of death again, one day, a ray of hope appeared. It was magic. Discovering that it was not just a simple reincarnation but an “isekai reincarnation” into a world of swords and magic, the man thought that in this world he might be able to achieve immortality.

This is the story of a man who, regardless of being called a devil or being deemed insane by those around him, forged ahead in pursuit of his ultimate wish.

The protagonist isn't just "called" a psychopath, he's basically a fully fledged horror villain, with the only difference that the victims of his cruel torture are criminal s*aves. But he doesn't mind burning and killing innocent people either.

I definitely don't recommend this to anyone with a weak stomach. It also includes somewhat graphical descriptions of some of the mutilation, or people burning alive while being constantly healed so they don't die but keep suffering.

And he also corrupts the people around him, including his sister.

Spoiler

Because she wants to spend time with her brother, he lets her into his laboratory where one s*ave with an axe is constantly trying to kill another s*ave who's helpless but regenerating, and another s*ave who is tortured through constant poisoning.

It's not surprising that that experience would be harmful to the psyche of a five year old. He also basically indoctrinates her into his thanatophobia, and carves magic into her flesh without anaesthesia. Again, while she's five or six.

[collapse]

This isn't on the level of being ruthless and ignoring ethics when there's a significant benefit, there are no morals or any empathy to begin with.

Aside from his personality and his torturous growth mechanic (torturing others, not himself), it seems to be a more or less decent isekai story. The darker part just overshadows it.

I've found it readable overall, but I have full understanding for those 1 star ratings. <<less
