The year he was fifteen, Ling Ke realized he was gay, and that he fell in love with a hot guy the same gender he was! Ling Ke spied on the other’s online friend group, paid attention to that person’s every move, and privately, started his fanatical fan-boying actions. Unfortunately, the hot guy he liked was someone who changed girlfriends like he changed clothes, a pretentious and straight male.

A few years later, Ling Ke and the hot guy he was secretly in love with got into the same university and became good friends. In order to prevent his beloved from hating him, Ling Ke repressed his true feelings and forced himself to pretend to be a 24k, pure gold straight guy.

Having high-spec looks, Qi Feng was a networking expert, but in order to preserve his all-around shining and popular heartthrob image, he always hid his true sexuality, that he was gay. He got himself (fake) girlfriends all throughout school, literally playing himself into being branded as a skirt-chaser.

Until one day, he met his true love. The other looked delicate and gentle, cold and out-of-reach, as if the ideal lover he’d dreamed of in his heart.

Except, there was just one thing. That guy also looked completely straight……

In short, this is the love story of two scared, in-the-closet gay guys pretending to be straight while mutually trying to feel the other out.

Sure it's fluffy and we love a self-aware MC but I can't stomach reading in a tsundere's POV. He keeps digging a deeper hole each time he tries to act seemingly natural but it ends up a bit more plastic. Then again, I guess the novel probably wouldn't exist if the MC just simply says, "hey actually I met you when we were younger and its ok if u didnt remember me" in the beginning.

Gah I'm so uncomfortable when he insists on hiding the fact that he stalks ML's social... more>> media, starts learning how to play a game because the ML plays it, I just can't continue reading with such a roundabout character. And then there's MC's overthinking that really hits home, I can't have an MC that reminds me of me haha.

Ignore the stars, I swear I did not put any before I posted. If any, I would have put higher marks than two.

The extras are in particular beautifully well done! The loose strings (if there are any) were tied up; and realizations regarding equivalent compromise and new beginning were displayed.

I really love (my favorite) the last two extras (as you can see above). It was so maturely sweet??? I don't know, just that I really like how Qi Feng's parents found reconciliation and Ling Ke started to align his interest... more>> as well as invest his time with respect to Qi Feng's.

Favorite Pairings after the protagonists: That lawyer and consultant (you know who) then Qi Feng and Qi Yu's parents, like??? Adorable. Age does not matter with this.

Just a bit curious on how they broke their relationship to Ling Keng's parents after. <<less

"Two gays pretending to be straight whilst engaging in fake couple play" pretty much sums up this entire novel. Wholesome, cute, hilarious. This is a story that has readers sn**gering since as third parties, we know what's going on but are forced to watch our main characters stumble around like waddling ducklings. There's a ton of fun misunderstandings, unconsciously-dished out dog food, & cute revelations. I appreciate how both Ling Ke & Qi Feng are able to expand from their stock traits of being "sunny & lively" or "cold &... more>> indifferent". There's quite a bit of depth to them & I love how the novel touches base with their respective insecurities & perception of the world. It's not a novel that you go to for deep psyche analyzations; mind you, this is still dubbed a FLUFFY novel. Give it a shot if you enjoy college romances starring two clowns <<less

The journey is so fun, I don't have any problems reading all the while. So cute, seriously. I have the MTL and Scanlation. The scanlation didn't include the smeggs scene but yeah, this is so wholesome...

I just got headache reading the MTL, haha. (I want to learn chinese T^T)

I have been considering to read this long ago. But I just put it off since I hate novel involving unrequited love moreover they play as fake couple. I hate angst novels act.

But fear not, this novel contains enough fluff for a lifetime. They're just cute little adorable thing. I love them so much.

Overall, it's a short novel. Theres not much drama. And even if there is a conflict its settle soon.

Edit, it is now 2022 and I've read this again for nostalgia sake and I don't love it like I did before. I mean I still really like it but I'm dropping my initial 5 stars to 4 stars. Still recommend to read if you like fluffy stories.

This one is very cute and fluffy. I will admit at times its a bit frustrating as the reader because you know they are just pretending to be straight. I was reading the wonderful translations by Yuiko but they haven't updated in a while so I got impatient and read through machine translation. The first time I have done this until the end of a novel. Too bad the site I found cut out all the good parts. I think my favorite part was

When the truth comes out. The ML was the one he first fell for at the piano recital, not the brother. The ML doesn't remember him exactly, though.

ahhhhh so cute. A very casual read any sort of "conflict" was resolved in one chapter and I liked that they actually communicate problems to each other. Minus the whole gay chicken thing LOL

EEEEEKK!!!!! AUWUWHHW this was honestly so so so cute!!! whoever wrote that gay chicken review, you’re officially the GOAT!!! EEEEEE!!!

so i’m usually a bigger fan of the falling in love slow romance kind of thing which obviously didn’t happen here but it was a nice swap from what i’m used to!!! AHHHH it was so funny hehehe just seeing them prance around each other while knowing what was going on... I was simultaneously frustrated and amused but it all worked out in the end!!!!

honestly i’m ngl I wanted more drama... more>> out of the fake relationship but it’s still super cute!!! AND MY MOST FAVORITE PART IS THEIR ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIP RIGHT AFTER THAT!!!!! their dynamic is just sooo cute, I LOVE THEM BOTH SO MUCH <333

despite not having intricate falling in love moments or scenes, you can tell just how perfect and sweet they are together. AHHHH!!! definitely recommend for a fun and short story!!! <<less

All I can say is, it's not special? Like idk, maybe because I have already read many romance novels whether it would be gay or straight, Chinese or not. But damn this really felt bland. I mean the plot is decent but it really has spark to it. It's like cooking with complete ingredients, successfully making a decent food but it still has no flavour. Even if there is, it doesn't leave an aftertaste.

I find ML quite annoying too.

— ling ke & qi feng are are so dumb and I mean that both in a very affectionate and derogatory way

— like. The whole novel is just the spiderman meme where they point at each other in confusion. Zero brain cells to be spared I truly love the dumbass4dumbass trope

— it was a bit draggy at the start but the characters were so entertaining that I forgave the slow pace!

So I am a bit conflicted on this one. It's not bad per say, but it's a bit too slow at the start, and the plot only really picks up about halfway when the fake dating begins. The premise is also hilarious but I got annoyed at how little the MC communicated. He kept hiding everything, and literally every time ML found something out it wasn't because MC told him anything but rather because he either deduced it himself or was told by someone else.

Overall it's mostly brainless enjoyment, but... more>> probably wouldn't call it a favorite. I do really like dramatic irony and secrets between people, but I think I like it when there's higher stakes to the secrets than just being found by the other person as being gay? The misunderstanding really just felt forced after a certain point rather than naturally played out. Love a fake relationship, but this reads too much like an overdone trope than a fresh execution.

Still it's overall enjoyable! The ML is a favorite for me, as he's not a cold unfeeling bastard but rather a sensitive sweetheart who is both outgoing and gentle. His twin brother is also hilarious, even if he doesn't show up much. Loved the way that he teases both ML and MC. My only real gripe with the novel is with the MC, but seeing as it's told in his point of view, it's still a sizable issue.

If you're looking for something fluffy, this'll do the trick. There's a couple of R18 scenes too if you're looking for that too haha <<less

I specially made an account just for this.

Let me tell you about this novel. This is the first novel I added to my favourite novels list. This is so cute, sweet and romantic. No angst at all. It will make you feel so relaxed. I read this novel within 24 hours. When I finish it it was 4 am. I was addicted that much.

When talking about characters, ML and MC are both intelligent, handsome and strong people. You will not recognise who the top is or bottom is, until they... more>> do it. 🤭 The story is so cute. It's quite long but not boring at all.

I rate it 10/10.

Recommend to everyone who love sweet college love stories.

MC fell in love first but ML fell harder. But both of them hid it and acted like straight people.

ML confessed first then MC agreed. But MC didn't tell that he fell in love first.

I loved this novel. It was cute and fun and made me laugh. I’ve read all three of this author’s novels that have been translated and it is my favorite (and the only one where I liked both MC and ML)

5 stars. Highly recommended

If you read this novel first, please be aware that the other two (Assistant Architect and Black Bellied vs Black Bellied) are more serious and not as fun

A short, pleasant, and enjoyable read with no major angst or drama.

It’s the story of two gay men in college pretending to be in a relationship while also pretending to be straight. Silly premise but the story takes place in modern China where same-s*x relationships are not openly accepted by everyone. Neither of the two want to lose the friendship of the other so they dance around each other while posing as straight guys.

The story itself is a solid 4 stars but the extras really helped pushed it to 5... more>> stars. One of the extras had a great philosophical part about relationships that I found to be eye-opening. Plus, there’s also an unexpected couple that appears in the extras.

It's cute. There is some fluff and a bunch of funny and sweet characters. This is a slow, slice of school life BL romance with virtually no spice. There is kissing and then it does the screen fade to black thing with anything more intimate.

I will say the author seems to have a limited and occasionally ill informed idea of what being gay means. Like a man carrying tissues could make people think he is gay. The only thing I can think of to explain that would be that they... more>> had seen a picture of one of those movie prison scenes where you have a guy holding the inside out pocket of another to signify they are a couple and made a guess based on that?

The conflict comes from the MC's pride and anxiety about his past with the ML along with being gay. So everything could have been explained and cleared up within the first 5 chapters if they had been honest with eachother, but they are both afraid of messing up what they are slowly developing together, so things get put off and harder to discuss.

This isn't a great love story or something that you will remember and want to read over and over, but it is a sweet and pleasant story that would be a nice palate cleanser between long and dramatic stories. <<less

It was a relatively calm and steady story. I felt like there was some lost potential in this story. The author was playing it too safe and refused to challenge themselves. For example, there could've been some nice conflict when Qi yu arrived and recognized Liang Ke. The second CP was just poorly written. And Gao Yusheng and Xiao Qibao could've been the cute enemies to lovers CP. Overall, it was good enough read but forgettable.

This is a light hearted and easy to read romp. The MC and ML characters are cute as pie and the situations presented are hilarious. The supporting characters are great sidekicks. I read this novel after "Waiting for you Online" - there are similar traits between the characters but definitely angst free in this novel.

Reading this novel is like taking a step back into my past (parts of it anyway) - never imagined it could be presented so funnily. It drew me in completely and made me thirst for more.... more>> I was and am completely besotted by MC&ML.

I only chanced upon wintertranslates' translation towards the end of my reading. S/He calls it a "summary" but it reads like a novel. It contains all of the extra chapters at the end (must read if you are like me, and can't get enough of MC&ML) and a couple of extra intimate chapters.

This is a quick, cute story. A lot of reviews are getting hung up by the MC's "prejudices", but I feel like that's the point. The MC has serious anxieties about his sexuality (understandable) - it's a given that he's going to agonize/overreact over things that seem "feminine." Anyways, that was my take on it; I could be wrong.

This novel is not perfect of course, but I think if you want a fast, easy read with a cute, feel-good storyline, this'll do it.
