Chaos spread once those words of God were displayed to the whole world.

Kurose Hikaru, whose childhood friend had been chosen, was killed together with her on the same day she was supposed to be transferred. However, for some reason, Hikaru didn’t die and, even though he wasn’t chosen at first, he ended up as one of the [Otherworlders that will have all their actions live broadcasted to Earth].

Transferred without any preparations at all to that accursed land, he faced threats innumerable times and somehow managed to survive with his Gift, the Dark Spirit Abilities.

“I must not die. I am sure the people on Earth are all rooting for me after all…”

This is the story of a young boy who is tossed about by the gazes of the viewers, yet eventually manages to raise his head and walk forward.

A good story. Some problems with pacing, some problems with convenience and the romantic subplot/current arc feels 'rushed'. In particular:

Spoiler

Basically a 'love at first sight' by the heroine. Yes, she was saved by the MC, but seeing the world they are in, being saved and saving others would happen at some point or another. She doesn't seem to fall for the MC for any particular reason beyond 'he doesnt look at me with greedy eyes'. It seems very weak.

That includes the willingness she has shown to basically throw her life away for him. Even tho she does have her own goals.

If they gave the romantic subplot more time it would create some breathing room for it to feel more natural. It is attempted, by them teaming up and the MC learning from her. But by then she already has fallen head over heels for him. A case of rushing to the conclusion that the writer really wanted to write.

[collapse]

Seeing it is a big part of the story till now, you might expect me to give a lower rating. But the writer does show that they know 'people'. The bulletin board interactions feel 'real' (and remind me of twatter, sadly). And I believe the writer has it in them to make every character focused and important. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

That said, it is a by the numbers isekai, even if there is an interesting twist. You will see some tropes float by. If you can overlook them (or even just like them), give this a shot. You might get pleasantly surprised <<less

If you like reading Reddit message boards, this is the one for you! About every 4th chapter is a solely a chapter of the Earth viewers commenting. Pretty realistic view of toxic internet trolls. So if that is what you love... then dig in! Other than that, and having a third of the first 30+ chapters being a mentally broken self-loath fest, it’s not bad.

When his friend was killed, he ONLY feel sorrow, NO anger. The culprit not even getting caught yet! Its Like getting killed is something natural, like dying of old age or a natural disaster. I can't relate to this kind of maso MC at all.

[collapse]

The only good point is unlike other s*upid story where everything will goes well for MC, at least it wont go that smooth for this MC.

Update: tr*sh. Only for "M"

The way that this novel treats trauma feels scarily real.

There is no one-and-done solution. Nothing happens that makes the MC immediately change his mind.

It's a slow healing process, just like it is in real life.

... more>> Not only that, there are also setbacks. It's not a constant journey upwards, it's a two steps forward one step backwards mentality.

Also, the characters are surprisingly complex.

The MC feels like a stereotypical normal boy, but after thinking about it, you can see just how strong his mentality is. Even after getting traumatized three times in a row (for a normal person just one would've made them go insane), he still picks himself back up and continues living only after a couple of days of crying in a corner. Sure, he keeps hiding from everything and everyone, but he goes to a dungeon, he earns a living, he kills monsters. I will be repeating myself, but most people would be apathetic for at least a couple of months, but he manages to force himself to move only after a couple of days.

This is a novel with real characters and real phycological issues. The world building is also WAY too good for how much was shown.

I mean, the author has thought out things for dozens of characters, plots for literal continents and the only thing we see is one continent and four characters?! What the hell?! <<less

I already had a hint on the quality from the synopsis that reeked of amateurism, and low and behold, I was right. The story is filled with chunibyou newbie writing styles. Poor structured writing, lack of impact, unrealistic characters, forced FL love plot, extremely realism breaking main setting, weak minded MC type filler of casual slice of life type of genre in what's supposed to be a serious type story... You know, issues like that.

Though I didn't read far enough to judge whether it'd just be an average jpn novel,... more>> or a tr*shy one, with this many problems, I feel like it's safe to assume 2 stars <<less

As per the usual for isekai style novels, we are treated to a stellar intro that introduces the unique setting and the bulk of the ideas the author had cooked up for the series, but also in typical fashion it peters off into a unsatisfying conclusion. Great tls tho, good job Reigokai.

Conceptually an interesting twist on the typical isekai genre by introducing the streamer setting but underutilized since MC ends up ignoring it most of the time due to his trauma. I think they did a good job initially with... more>> showing MC's state of mind and the desperate progression he faced but having the misunderstandings continue until the end were annoying to experience as a reader. I'm fine with not clearing up misunderstandings if it increases the stakes and makes it interesting but beyond the halfway point it was tiring to read. The bulletin board stuff was kinda fun to read tho.

Authors own words about this being a test piece and using it to explore his own likes was refreshing to read however and I could definitely feel that in his writing, as well as some of the more fledgling author vibes with characters being underutilized.

My main gripes with the series are mostly just
Spoiler

I didn't like how every battle ended the same way with it either having Hikaru one tap or ab*se barrier crystals

Trying to counteract the usual NovelUpdates unreasonably harsh reviews.

First off, the title makes the story sound extremely edgy but it isn't at all. It's grounded but not a full on edgelord story.

This is an extremely creative webnovel. The fact that it's an isekai actually matters, like a lot, and I can't think of a single thing that's cookiecutter about it.

Characters are great, the MC is fighting some real personal struggles, the reasons everyone does everything makes sense (except God but it is what it is) and it's compelling all the... more>> way through. The payoffs you're waiting for fully deliver too.

I have never read any other story that gets internet comments so accurately, the livestream comments were both hilarious and also captured the vibe of an internet community speculating and coming to the entirely wrong conclusion perfectly.

My only complaint is that the viewership numbers make no sense. No way six billion people are watching the same stream lol. The author clearly got feedback on that and scaled it back in later chapters even when things are higher stakes. Which leads to a funny situation where he fights some wolves at the beginning and he has several billion watchers but the big high stakes fight at the end only has one character comment about how she has several million, and the author does not even try to scale it cause he f*cked it up out of the gate. <<less

Man now this novel was quite the ride, the MC was perfect too in a sense, not too weak and not too op, just right. His sense of self and right/wrong despite being put into a world where he’s meant to suffer and be a attraction for his own people back on Earth is something indeed. The plot of this novel is truly unique in its own twisted way, I do feel like there are problems though.

One of which is wasted potential, in which is a shame... more>> on why the novel ended like so.

Spoiler

I personally believe we could have expanded so much more on the MC, his family, the FMC (light) /her family, the other FMC (anti-spirit) as well as, the spirit churches. I do not know why the novel ended so prematurely when there was so much potential for more, especially with the introduction of the MCs childhood friend and her OP “pet” FINALLY meeting him... possible that the author had axed this because of time restraints or lack of sales or even health issues. I do find this a shame as if the story had gone on, it would have been a 4-5 star novel, but at the very least this rushed ending wasn’t too bad.

Arghhh I feel like a hater, but it's too hard to read.

Him wanting to cry in his darkness is just to much and makes the title a joke... being 15 is no excuse whatsoever, 200 years ago it was pretty usual to have a child at that age... I was just looking at "mushoku tensei"'s page and it's interesting how people will automatically dislike something just because it's isekai, even if it's a masterpiece of character growth or about important social problems like cyber bullying like "Darkness was comfortable for me" or even racial discrimination like "death mage".

I'm beyond getting angry or offended, I'm just a little sad for them that they miss out on such good stories just because of being biased. Though they probably deserve it.

I am angry however that they bring the score of these... more>> stories down and prevent people from finding them and can't see it as anything but malicious.

This is a really good novel, as of currently, its web version is fully translated thanks to Reigokai

Now, getting into the novel, what makes it good, is the amount of characterization and interactions given to it, the main start point, as given by the synopsis is, a God appeared and chose an amount of people to transfer to another world, and its set up so people from Earth can view and interact as if it were a livestream of sorts with the transfered ones, where they can send comments or... more>> with the amount of views, the ones at the top can get bonuses and so on, pretty much like a reality TV show, and here is the kicker, it shows how much the author knows of these kind of things, as it mingles the MC pov with bulleting board chapters as if from internet forums who react on events or so around the isekai.

MC is in a really bad spot from the start, to a point that deeply scars and traumatizes him, and this is excerberated by the hurtful comments he gets sent at first which are the finishing blow to his already weakened mental at the start, and the novel explores this, its start is the most stressful, you see a lot of moments you want to avert your eyes or skip ahead due to how heavy the thoughts of the MC are, and as it goes you see it slowly restore or decay again, and the way it mingles with this react chapters really tells how much the author knows the tropes and how internet denizens act, at times is full of hate, other times with a lot of insensibility, support, etc, and many times, during these chapters, us readers, could feel as if we were being read ahead due to how it predicts our reactions, you can really see it on the chapter by chapter discussions when it was translated, a lot of comments would have almost equal reactions to future board chapters or things like that and even here with some reviews that missed part of the point of the series

Of course, it has its own weak parts, some can be left to suspension of disbelief, like how impressive MC sisters are, although it also fuels part of MC issues, as well how, the early parts are super heavy in terms of emotions, to the point you can get infuriated due to our position as a reader, which seems to be the case on some of the reviews, the novel of course also has its own light moments once the worse has happened, dont worry about if MC becomes too op or whatever, the main point on here, is the descent and climb up of our MC sanity when everything is staggered against him in such a cruel way, heck, even Mushoku tensei author has reccomended this web novel some time ago due to how its themes are similar in the sense of development and growth rather than a power trip <<less

I did not really want to do this, but this story is a solid 4, 5/5 you can give it a 4 or 5, and I get it. It has a lot of adventure aspects that are nice to read through and some character/world building (they do not develop much in the span of the first 200 chapters.

The pace is somewhat slow, but even then we do not really got too much information about the world. I feel like we are teased some side information for later arcs, but these... more>> later arcs will never come I guess. The story just end the moment our 2 childhood friends reconnect and start their adventure, that the reader would never see anything about these stories to come is just sad, but it also makes the story until that point not really worse so still 4/5 points.

Maybe you like never ending stories... this is one of them (even if it has an end). Or maybe the author needed to just start over with a diffrent story (he mentioned that it was only the first half of the story), because he made to many small mistakes here and there. Sometimes it`s better to start from zero than try to save what you already have.

I'm not going to write a review about this novel because other reviews are detailed enough. Instead, I'll write about the experience of my reading.

The experience of reading this novel is like watching India shows. I liked the story in the beginning where it focused on the main character and showed us the world through his eyes, kept things interesting and mysterious, the message boards were a nice way to explain some of the things that were going and to express what the public felt. Then came the POVs, which at the beginning were few and far in between, I didn't mind Rifreya's POV since it explained something very relevant in the coming chapters, Celica's POVs felt a bit long but they also explained a... more>> major plot point, though I don't know if that was the best time to explain them, but Nanami's POV... I like the setting overall and I find it enjoyable, that said, the MC is such a downer and goes on rants with his glass heart just makes my eyes roll. I understood in the beginning, but every 3-4 chapters goes the same depressing misunderstanding does not get cleared and he acts like a ret*rd with no common sense whatsoever, he boasts about his sisters being genius and one being a tech god, but he don't have a clue about people flamming/trolling him?

The only thing that carries this series is the premise as far as I can tell, which to be fair is pretty interesting. However the writing and pacing are absolutely atrocious. I'm not typically very picky when it comes to writing but it's so bad that I can't even get immersed in the story. If you're new to web novels or you're able to look past how jarring the writing can be than you may enjoy this, but it's not my cup of tea.

The MC is such a coward while the female protagonist fell in love too quickly and out of nowhere. No reason whatsoever. The author wrote the MC as someone that is brave and never gave up on challenges, but he is so conscious about people watching him, which is ridiculous. Out of 1000 challengers only him that are so conscious with the viewers. Even real neet hikikomori have more guts than him. And worse the author actually wrote the whole novel revolving around his cowardice, which is just the worst.... more>> I just don't have the patience anymore to read where the MC actually resolve his past trauma. <<less

Overall a good book. World building is good and I like most of the characters. The MC's reactions to everything is pretty realistic and seeing the way they are portrayed is pretty nice. Sometimes characters with weird or strange attributes also have their uses which is refreshing. Sometimes an author will have a character who is strange and never acts like they have any direction other than 'must be there for the MC' but that isn't really apparent here with one exception that I will mention later.

I think that the... more>> system is pretty unique with the usage of spirits and how they act in the world. I like how you can be loved or even hated and both actually have their advantages and disadvantages. With the current party makeup it will be a interesting difference as it goes on.

Sometimes you will get into these long recaps about what just happened. That is sometimes annoying as people back on earth talk about things. I think that could be lessened now that the MC's no longer accused of, spoilers for anybody who doesn't want to read past this point btw,
Spoiler

mu*der.

I think his sisters are fine being smart but at the same time they have a level of sucking that is not good. One of his sisters is just way into the MC and I have always hated that trope. The other is cold and calculating making her seem rather psycho and out of touch. If the old world dropped into the background with only knowing their viewer count I would rather it dropped them off only mentioning them from time to time as the MC thinks about them.

I thought I would hate the girl with silver hair (sorry not good at spelling names, especially foreign ones) but she turned out to be a somewhat decent person with a good background. I hope she doesn't dissolve into a girl who just simps for the boy because that would ruin this story which is why it only has 4 stars instead of 5 because it is a fear of mine.

The other French otherworlder is an interesting character who is a hated one and I am looking forward to seeing her fight. At the same time I have similar worries and the added worry about the growing number of girls. Also now his childhood best friend who he saved is coming and I am not actually looking forward to it. I have never understood how having more than one girl is ideal or a fantasy because that sounds so draining. Enough of my personal feelings though. Maybe it will go well and the girls will begin dating other people and their party will grow with some interesting male characters. Well, it is wishful thinking, as long as the girls don't lose their traits I think it will be fine.

Anyway it is a good story, I hope it keeps going and that the new developments that they are hinting at are good. They have some good things set up so I'm hoping it goes well. <<less

The setting is fresh because of the livestream aspect and the incident that occurred with the childhood friend. However, it is otherwise just a generic isekai story. I also don't like the MC.

Spoiler

When he finds out that he's become a Chosen, he doesn't inform the audience about the family massacre of his childhood friend nor ask God if his friend survived. He just automatically assumes his friend is alive even though she was stabbed 5 times in the abdomen. Is it denial?

The first time he practices his magic he faints when he runs out of mana/mp/whatever because there's no way to tell how much he has. When he wakes up thanks to an alarm (which he did not set) he thinks about how lucky he is that the barrier didn't disappear while he was out. Then he immediately starts practicing his magic again.

It's unbelievable that so few animals/monsters in the forest are nocturnal and that so many of them seem to be deaf or nose-blind. How could he realistically make it out of the forest just by covering himself in darkness? I don't blame him for not climbing a tree when attacked by the second pack of wolves though; he was exhausted and panicking, not thinking straight.

When he makes it out of the forest and finds out that he's the prime suspect for his friend's death, he becomes an emo and shut-in. He barely defends himself or describes the actual culprit. I find it hard to believe that someone can be that fragile and suffer so much trauma just reading ~5 text messages.

I'm surprised that he consistently kept so many real time viewers. In the forest, his routine was basically sleep in barrier, grind skills in barrier, then sneak through the forest (the only-semi interesting portion). Afterwards, his routine is to mope around in his room or sneak through the dungeon. I don't see how so many people can continue being interested when he's already proven there's no chance of him being discovered or interacting with anyone/anything. There are other Chosen (who actually does things) to watch.

When Alex (another Chosen) tries to pass him a message from his sisters, he refuses to hear it. How can he be so traumatized that he thinks that his family is going to flame him as well? That just proves that he doesn't know his family at all, especially given the fact that his sisters are extreme brocons.

I'm surprised that the first arc (120 chapters) was only 1 month. He spent 10 days in the forest and 14 days in the viewership ranking race. It sure seemed like he spent a lot longer than a week moping and sneaking about the dungeon on his own.
