Amamiya Hiroto is unlucky. His life consisted of misfortune after misfortune, culminating in an unlucky death during an incident on a school boat trip, trying to save a girl he barely knew. After death, he met a god of reincarnation who requested that the hundred or so dead passengers—one of them being the girl he tried in vain to save—be reincarnated into another world.

Yet a series of unfortunate events forced Hiroto to reincarnate with even less luck than before, starting with nothing but a tremendous amount of Mana. His second life, far worse than his first, came to a cruel end.

However, upon meeting the god a second time, he was informed that there would be yet another reincarnation—one that had already been set in motion and could not be stopped. Not wanting Hiroto to live long, the god cursed him before he was reborn in the hopes that he would either die quickly or commit su*cide.

Hiroto was reborn once more as a half-Vampire, half-Dark Elf. A Dhampir. Not wanting a fourth life, he is determined to live this third life with the only things remaining from his previous lives—death-attribute magic and his enormous Mana pool.

I just cant give this more than 2 stars. Its written well, its translated well, the chapters are lengthy, but it just is not worth my time. The author (like most japanese authors) tries too hard to make the most badass character in the world who is also caring and good-hearted and only punishes the bad guys. Sorry, it doesnt work.

Spoiler

The MC has a poor life, he first gets ab*sed by his uncle, then ab*sed by some god, then held captive worse than an animal for many years, only to be killed by his former classmates. There is not a single person who has some love for him. Until his last rebirth. He gets to know his loving new mom and his mind gets it's first break after 30+ years of mental torture. But those peaceful days will not last. The MC's mother gets killed (you could see that flag from miles away) ; she gets tortured and burned alive. The MCs mind gets corrupted, he swears revenge. But he is too weak. He levels up and comes back. With his new found power and minions he goes to destroy the city's wall's so that the citizens have to fend against wild animals and also spoils all the fermenting wine so that the city loses its production. Totally badass.

PS: Also the MC is one of the bread-hating asians, not making him any more likeable.

Mmmm... my review is quite average. MC is dark at the beginning but later on is completely different and that change is well made. Story line is awesome so many different paths are available it has good potential. But if your looking for romance, harem you have to wait some more but it's deathly intriguing how it's going to happen. Fan service x@x appears here and there.

The low rate reviews of this novel are so misleading! You will find out that the reviews of people who read 50+ chapters are positive. I gotta accept the novel is slow at the begining and might make the MC look s*upid sometimes, also the story might contain cliches but most of the novels do. The plot becomes more complex as the story advances. I'll call it low paced, the MC is still a 5y/o child as now so.. Yeah. I don't feel the novel is revenge centered thanks to... more>> Van's mother who changed his views.

Spoiler

yeah so she gets killed and some reviews say "he only made the wall into a golem and made him walk away instead of killing everyone in the city". I don't think it's the people's fault if they were taught since little that vampires or Vida's races are evil. He eventually kills the main culprits of his mother's death anyway.

Overall very good. I'd highly recommend this to readers.

But...

Keep these pointers in mind:

 • The story may seem to start off dark and stressful. Bear with the few opening chapters, because they are SUPER important for the rest of the chapter to come. The opening chapters will be sad and tragic and omg, Hilarious too in an accident on the side of the highway kind of feeling when you drive by and see it.
 • there is harem. sorry.
 • there is humor too.
 • there is vengeance, BUT not how you would expect it to be. "the best kind of vengeance is to live your own life to fullest in face of the person who dumps on you" is the vibe I get from this. Why burn all your life on hatred and vengeance when you can live it up instead?
 • the character grows into using his power and so OPness isn't a truly given thing at the outset.
 • it is slice of life, with some litrpg, violence and stuff included. and harem. sigh.
Overall good story telling. Translators are not tr*sh. so give it a shot.

laters!

Thus far it has a really interesting story line which you don't see much also it is a smooth one which gets you into it really fast! The explanation about stuff such as skills is mostly on point. The MC is interesting and funny at the same time and the other characters too are really well created at least that is my opinion. The translation is great at the same time too, there might be some small grammar mistakes here or there but who doesn't do them we are human... more>> and the chapters are really long so its understandable (big props to the translator (s)). Thanks a lot to the people who are translating and supporting this great novel. I hope it keeps going on like this ^^ <<less

This is a really well made story of vengeance. But not the xianxia like vengeance of killing, stealing their family and salting their lands. It's the kind of vengeance about living well. It reminds a bit Kuro no Mao, which starts as a very dark tale and then turns more into regular japanese Isekai as time goes on. It's a lot more enjoyable IMO.

While the story isn't bad, I find that the author's writing style leaves much to be desired. The author has an annoying habit of constantly reminding us about information that we already know from earlier chapters. Along with that are numerous, pointless walls of exposition that barely has anything to do with the actual story. I often find myself skimming over paragraph after paragraph because the author keeps going off on tangents. I'm enjoying the story so far, but it can get irritating to read at times.

Finally caught up with the current translated chapter, I already read this novel twice now and it really is one of the best novel I've ever read so im just gonna list of the things that I like

 • The plot seems like some edgy isekai revenge story but its really not that kind of story, the MC isnt some genocidal freak that would literally kill anyone and the people that he really want to kill is the main culprit for his mother's death the other people that he killed is mostly bandits and some self defense and he is willing to negotiate or talk first as long as its not about forgiving the main culprit of his mother's death
 • The story and world building is really great, everything is described with a lot of detailed so every chapter is long (its probably a con for some people but I really like this kind of writing)
 • The side character and even enemy is also great and has some personality and not like some "im evil so im doing this" motive even tho some of them is annoying like Asagi
 • MC is not acting like some typical isekai protag idiot that dont kill even if its self defense is also a great addition to this, he is sometimes "merciful" on some rare cases but its still satisfying to read
Overall 5/5 novel for me and I will probably read it for the 3rd time after a year or two xD

I absolutely despise the author's portrayal of gods in this narrative. While the idea of a civil war among deities is intriguing, the execution falls flat, lacking complexity and nuance. It is funny and kinda dark when you see the consequences of incompetent gods ruling the world, but in this story, every god seems to be intellectually challenged. The main character effortlessly triumphs over them, as they appear to be nothing more than mouth breathing lemmings.

Moreover, the gods lack depth and uniqueness. They come across as one-dimensional and generic, lacking... more>> any distinguishing characteristics.

I'm puzzled by the prevalent trend in many jap Isekai novels depicting religion as inherently malevolent. The recurring themes of corrupt priests, wicked gods, money-driven churches, and inept paladins lack subtlety and nuance. I'm so tired of this... it is honestly incomprehensible to me how badly JP fantasy treats religion. I mean come on, a D&D rule book has more commentary on religion in fantasy then all of Isekai novels combined. <<less

The first few chapters might be boring if the genre it's not your cup of tea. But let me tell you something, this might be one (if not the one) of the very best of the genre. And not all it's just about that, 'cause the characters, world, fights... everything it's very well developed

Edit: The more I re-read this one, the more I acknowledge that the main character is basically the character from MCR's The Black Parade and picks up all the rejects of society, whether theyre rejects through no fault of their own or because they have different values and morals. A lot of reviews get upset that he has no issue with women who have had s*x before or people who have experienced trauma before but I think that says way more about the reviewers than the story. Van is radical... more>> acceptance personified and powerful enough to make a difference for anyone he accepts.

~end edit~

I think this may be one of my favorite stories and creations ever. The translation quality is top-notch albeit very slow and has only slowed down more over time. I've read the machine translations through to the end but I've read through all translated chapters I couldn't tell you how many times. At least 5.

I won't deny that a huge draw for me is seeing new monsters and evolutions/mutations. The frequent monster/job footnotes are very interesting and it's great seeing Vandalieu move about while tearing up the logic and reality everywhere he goes.

Most low reviews seem to be from edgelords who felt betrayed by the promise of depraved revenge? I don't see any inconsistencies in the characters and their motivations but I also didn't go into it hoping for a jerk MC. He's plenty brutal and merciless when he has reason to be and otherwise lives as he wishes to.

Even the other-world side stories (which I initially disliked) became more and more interesting as they went. Eventually there's like a volume's worth of those chapters in a row for the other world that made me appreciate the earlier side stories (I confess to skipping them a few times when rereading until I read those).

Looking forward to my next reread! <<less

This is an amazing story, most of the low ratings are from people who either did not give the story a chance, or are bringing in their own biases and expectations to a story where they have no place.

To many people need to remember that if something is not listed in the description/summary it is not likely a major part of the story, why do I say this because there are to many "reviews" complaining about the lack of a revenge aspect. Problem is this is not a revenge story,... more>> and never was.

The key part of the summary to understanding the story is the last paragraph :
Hiroto was reborn once more as a half-Vampire, half-Dark Elf. A Dhampir. Not wanting a fourth life, he is determined to live this third life with the only things remaining from his previous lives—death-attribute magic and his enormous Mana pool.
The MC is focused on living his life to the fullest, not revenge or seeking trouble as those are thing that reduce life expectancy. There are people he seeks revenge on, but other then the town at the beginning (and what he did to them is crueler then killing everyone, by a wide margin, considering how backwards and explorative the world is) pretty much every time he kills someone they are a direct threat to him or his subordinates. His experiences and desire to not die again have lead to Van being to cautions to risk himself on a revenge spree.
Spoiler

At one point he basically admits that if Heinz, one of the main antagonists and a leading cause in Darcia's death, were to flee and take up a peaceful life where he was no longer a threat to Van's people, well empire at that point, Van would not bother to hunt him down. Heinz being Heinz does not take that option though

[collapse]

Though some aspects might not make sense to people, that is if you forget 2 key aspects of the story. First Van is insane, very insane. He is effectively so insane he loops back around to clarity. But he is still nuts and does not always act as a normal person would as a result.

He is also VERY traumatized, and much of the early story arcs involve parts of that trauma slowly healing. It never goes fully away, but it is still there. He is also obsessed with "Luxury" due to his first life's experiences, the quotations are due to how his evil uncle used the term to include things like pencils that even the poor kids have, but only when it came to Van.

The story is about an overpowered (but more in OP potential as he still needs to put the work in, which he does in spades) extremely cautious MC seeking a better life slowly building a vast empire in the process, partly due to his extreme black companies look on in envy and jealousy work-a-holic nature, and piece by piece removing the obstacles to his log term huis long term happiness.

The world is very well fleshed out, with a thought out backstory. One thing it actually does that most stories ignore is it gives a solid reason for the medieval stasis. Some can not accept it, but it is a justification that works through shifting the cost-reward of development to a non-tech method, that is pretty much as maxed out in the world as it can be without corner cases like Van around to throw off the variables, which is one of the few ways to create the effect believably.

The Villains are not all one note, they all have rational and reasons for how they act, and many either want to or do seem themselves as good and in the right, the problem is hose all start from a flawed assumption or position that undermines their beliefs and means they are actually on the wrong and spreading evil.

For example the god from he summary has understandable goals, but does not put in the work to pull them off right, and pretty much always takes the immediately simplest solution. He is all band-aid measures and does not address the real problems or take the effort to make sure he does things right.
Spoiler

One example is in the first chapter he calls everyone by name to give them gifts for their re-incarnations but 2 people have the same name with different spellings. He notices the spelling differences and proceeds to give both sets of gifts tot he same person, rather then putting in minimal effort and make sure that there is not a 2nd individual there. This piece of laziness is what leads to the MC suffering in his 2nd life. The idiot God then decides to rather then make it up to the MC in his 3rd life, craft new gifts for him, or do anything else to make amends for the 20 years of torture, he will simply slap some curses on the MC to drive him to su*cide so MC can not negatively affect his plans for everyone's 3rd life. curses that without an actual divine intervention would have driven MC to su*cide at and early age...

To make matters worse, his plan was doomed to failure since he took what he heard from others (I assume other gods) what works and blindly copied that, without checking to see if it would work first. The world of the story is one where not only would it not work, but it would be violently opposed.

I've kind of fallen off the wagon with this one, but the translation is good, the worldbuilding is interesting and the multiple world's characters are a joy. However, it suffers from the main character having little personality, which isn't a problem early on but becomes one in the later chapters.

I enjoyed getting up to this point, but I have a feeling I'd enjoy the rest a lot more if I let the chapters accumulate. I'm not sure if it's a pacing issue or just me forgetting plot points I should... more>> be excited for.

There are better novels on this site, but this isn't a bad one to spend some time reading. <<less

Decent novel

... more>> 1st early on the revenge vanished with sound logic.. but the MC who was ab*sed for 2 lives & was so depressed & even gained a skill that turned him insane cause they killed his mother suddenly got a clear head & was like they just laugh but didn't physically hurt his mom so no need to revenge o_O

2nd the MC keep "creating" new races was annoying... it should be either he remove the races negative shackles (make vampires able to walk under sun & make ghoul able to give birth...) basically just keep the same races but improve them but nope MC keep creating new races left & right...

3rd MC allies don't bother to teach him.. the MC has enough mana to be called a higher god but doesn't know how to use it (no technique, he just keep forcing everything through mana... like if he want to create a sea of fire so he create 1 million fireball, which will cost 10m mana but there is a Sea o fire spell that will take like 100 mana to cause same effect...) but nobody "dare" to teach & help for some reason

4th same as 3rd point, MC control the reincarnation cycle subconsciously... his allied gods knows that but they don't bother to help him control it.. they are like "one day he will be able to control without our help so lets just watch"... <<less

Ughh where do I start? Yeah, I've decided to read this ln because I've read it's manga at some point in the past and remembered it to be above average in terms of japanese stories.

But boy, did my preferences change. First of all MC at first seems to be an anti-hero kind of guy just to be turned into this pathetic typical japanese KIND protagonist.

I'm kinda used to more realistic concept of harem at this point from cultivation novels and this whole 1yr old kid having big tiddie waifus surround... more>> him everywhere is fckin cringe.

I don't really mind MC starting out young and then growing up throught the story but I think that in this particular novel this went horribly wrong.. I mean if you consider that he could've lived with his mother for several years instead of 0.5 year before killing her off to not only make her death more impactful on MC but also on us, readers but also let us actually see him grow up..?

What annoys me the most is that despite him being completely broken down in his 2nd life and being reborn with all these curses as a monster that is fated to be hunted down by humankind he can smh be kind toward people who brutally mu*dered outright like the only one person that cared about him throught his several sad lifes...

maybe I'll finish it somewhere in the future but yeah, my actual 1st experience reading japanese ln was not that great as I would rather go back to reading MGA that I've dropped after 1145 or so chapters. <<less

I really recommend this if you like epic stories where the main character goes from being very weak at the start of the story to fighting gods later on.

I do however feel that his charm skill makes for a lot of s*upid situations where the MC doesn't have to do anything to prove himself worthy of other peoples trust as long as they can somehow be linked with the death attribute.

Also please ignore the reviews that call Vandalieu forgiving. These are just straight up wrong as he is a character... more>> who almost never lets go of grudges even if he can't take revenge right away. <<less

This is a True Masterpiece, while the Start, and the Story flow, can be strange or confusing, with the Dark theme/tragic Past (Past! Not present or future!) and the start of the Novel with the MC newly Born, as a Half-Vampire.

And this goes on as the Author doesn't skip Year or even Months, and goes on to let the MC slowly age with the Flow of Story. As of Chapter 255 is the MC 12 Years old (Plus/Minus 1-2 Years).

The Story of the MC is rather unique, as the MC... more>> has many Undead allies who are, considered Enemys to the World and also insane with only carving for Flesh and slaughter, Sane and not going around killing all. But the still lets them Eat all they kill, humans included, while MC grows his Death Attribute Power, and gains more Powers that are more inclined towards Dark, Manipulative or even close to Evil.

The MC uses these Powers, without holding back, on 100% Enemys, uses a weak version on not Enemys, who are not enemys or allies, with no permanent Harm and makes sure use it only when really needed and even uses it on Allies to heal them. Like a Ghost who forgot how it looked, but only in Extreme Cases.

The MC slowly gathers all sort of Races, and People, without any sort of prejudices. As long as they dont harm innocent people is he Ok with all Races, even if they are cruel toward these that harmed them. He has a something like "A Eye for a Eye" Way of live. He help others and is understanding toward People, even if they attacked him.

This Novel is a True Gem, even if some readers will drop the Novel, with it's part strange Story flow. I recommend this Novel to well readed Novel readers who already know many different Novels (Cultivation Novels, Level Novels, Cheat Novels, Reincarnation Novels, Transmigration Novels, Isekai Novels and more). <<less

As someone who has actually read the novel up until it’s current translation, I gotta say it’s a solid one. It definitely has its flaws when it comes towards developing the non-initial cast of characters and the interactions between the characters seem a little forced sometimes, but overall it really comes together nicely. Questions eventually get answered and the gags are all there.

it is 100% worth it to give this story a try and to ignore all the lame readers who comment after 3 chapters that it’s not a revenge... more>> plot >.> Read the story a bit before you form your opinions. <<less

It may not be for all those people who like virg*n women in MC's harem and stuff like those in the comments. Like dude they got different cultures about their views in relationship and marriage.

World building may be slow but its it's there.

And there was one guy saying that MC swipes through the dungeon easily. Like dude our MC got over a 100 million mana at the beginning of the series and by the end of volume 8 he got over 6 billion mana. He can just punch a hole in space with just his mana attack alone.

He got powerful companions as well with some over Rank 14 and up

While I find this novel interesting, I can't just bring myself to like some of the scenes such as Vandalieu licking people. Its too gross and disgusting.

Once or twice might be fine but when it happens often, it takes the fun out of reading the novel.

Damned Author, there should be a limit to it already.
