The novel starts with a mu*der case. The MC's past where she was driven out of her house and her marriage stolen never get rehashed, and for this novel it works better like that. MC was only 5 when her extended family drove her out, so we never see this from her POV, which works because she was basically a child when this all happened.

MC's character is very calm and rational. She is good at her job and anyone with any sense and eyes can see that. ML notices it the first time he watches her do an autopsy and this changes his impression of her for the better. Of course he did not fall in love straight away. It took maybe half the novel before he started to admit his feelings? But he is definitely the one who falls first. MC is a bit slower in terms of romantic EQ. ML is your typical strong and silent type guy, although he has a ruthless reputation and he is not too fond of women. MC is an exception, and only because she was useful to him in the beginning. He is a bit pushy at the beginning of their relationship, but MC stands her ground and he eventually gets better.

The novel is very episodic. Once a case is finished, the next one starts and eventually the cases start to interlink until the final villain (who is also a villain of MC's past and caused her family tragedy) is captured.

There is minimal face slapping sadly. ML did offer to get revenge for her and make her family regret, but she never has any thoughts of revenge or getting even. She is very indifferent to her family, and only considers her foster father her family. If you are expecting face slapping, please also exit to the left as there is basically none.

I wish there ending was longer and we got more of a look into their married life. They got married in the last chapter and there is no smut or any explicit scenes, sadly.
