The Demon Butler Is Still Motivated Today

Ya Xiao was a very pitiful little demon who had his bat wings and tail snapped off by his mother right after he was born.

Once a demon loses their wings and tail, they become the lowest demon in the group.

Fortunately, Ya Xiao grew up with a motivational system.

With the help of his Uncle System, Ya Xiao worshipped evil by nature, but his character was positive, sunny, healthy, and full of ideals and beliefs!

Four hundred years later, Ya Xiao relied on his own efforts with great motivation and regrew his tail. Just when he was about to grow his wings,

——he transmigrated.

Ya Xiao: ……

System: ……cub, don’t cry! System Dad will take you back!

****

In order to let the cub go back, the system learned after looking up and analyzing that this was a novel. In it, there was a villain who had one hand on the sky and was always against the protagonist’s group. The system cried tears of joy.

“Cub, you go approach the villain and absorb demon value from him.”

Ya Xiao nodded, “Okay!”

After some manipulations, Ya Xiao successfully took up his position as the villain’s butler.

Just as he was happily on duty and ready to approach the villain, he was in time to see the already-blackened villain strangling the protagonist’s neck. His eyes were fierce and cold, and he looked bloodthirsty and cruel.

Ya Xiao: ……!!!

He’s so badass! I love it so much!

Ya Xiao’s soul that worshipped the powerful awakened. He couldn’t restrain his tail from wagging left and right in his pants, and his heart was stirred up.

System: ……???

****

The new butler was beautiful, soft, well-behaved, and kind.

Whether it was scheduling or dealing with various chores, he always arranged them perfectly.

Qin Qi heard his subordinates say that the butler liked him.

He pulled at the corner of his mouth and put out the cigarette in his hand.

Like him? Might as well like a dog.

An existence as beautiful and soft as a cat like the butler should be pampered with gold and silver.

He would only bring misfortune and fear to the other party.

In a rare attack of conscience, Qin Qi purposely took him to the battlefield once to make it clear to the other party that they weren’t even from the same world.

The severed limbs of the insects were piled up in mountains. The foul-smelling green blood intertwined with the blood of the humans was disgusting. It made the people go increasingly crazy.

“See?”

Qin Qi drew out his silver blade, signaling the other to look at his compatriots who had already gone crazy from the mental contamination:

“As long as the insect mother isn’t dead, the insects will never die, and I’ll become a complete and utter madman.”

“But the insect mother…” snorted Qin Qi, “No one can fight that kind of thing.”

Ya Xiao: ……

He trembled as he pulled something just like a gemstone out from behind him.

“Is… is this it?”

Qin Qi: ……

Ya Xiao: QAQ

I didn’t know this shiny thing was the insect mother!

Although it had an interesting plot, the characters just made it boring to me.

Don't get me wrong, they are not terrible, but they just don't feel consistent and even real.

The plot is interesting and it looked like it had something to fly to, but the character was just not made that well for me.

The MC's character was verging from being innocent (or like pure type) to being slick and cunning. It was not balanced out. Sometimes he's an airhead, but it was hard to swallow when he's smart. He... more>> was written as naived sometimes, but it was really hard to believe when he's very perceptive. It's not bad, it just does not make sense to me.

The ML too was like the MC but maybe his lack of emotional presence and clarity made it more hard to find this incongruence to him, but I am feeling it a little from him too.

The other characters was meh, they seemed similar and lacking of complexities. They just felt the same.

I grew bored of it so I dnf. <<less

I wish I could rate it 10 stars, Marshal has an aesthetic taste perfectly suited to a demon and Ya Xiao is simultaneously the most simple and straightforward person and a pure demon

The story and mystery was actually quite interesting! YX understands from the get go that things arent as they seem but he really has no interest in the mystery of the novel or why villain died until he decides he needs more time to suck up energy and then rolls up his sleeves and gets to work.

The side... more>> characters were also very nice, and mega shoutout ti Fourth Uncle best system, I hope it gets to live its golden age of retirement making data tea and reading newspaper while humming at YX's antics <<less

Fun, short read with some mystery and plot but generally, a cute story between a lively demon trying to make his way to become a greater demon and a marshal trying to save humanity. They match in the cutest ways that would send me away screaming in real life, but it's adorable here!

Found this through a rec list and it was a great read!

Cute and sweet, albeit a bit short.

If you're looking for a deep plot, this is not for you, but otherwise, I 100% recommend giving it a try!

OP MC, very amusing to read. A bratty demon power trip.

Perfectly good consistency, a bit flat, otherwise cruel and unusual consequences to Sheng Cheng. As a side character for exposition, his suffering was not in vain.

I love, love, love, Ya Xiao so much, his character fits in line with his identity, he’s not like other protagonist that has been specifically stated to be of another race who acts like they have not seen much more messed up stuff. Ya Xiao actually behaves like a demon and actually has a reason to care about humans. I mtl this on a Chinese site so it didn’t have the extras, therefore I’m probably missing some stuff but I really hope Ya Xiao confronted Linus, or visited the Demon... more>> Realm, I actually don’t have much to say I just wanted to write something for the review :)

Overall this can be considered a happy fluffy novel with a good protagonist, it feels good to have a break from all the tragedies of Infinite Horror lol, I actually like how the author included many foreign names in the novel, like it’s just weird if in an apocalypse the only people who survived were Chinese. And that’s all, this isn’t really a review it’s just me stating what I liked (I’m biased). <<less

I couldn't stop reading because I find the plot so fascinating, even though it was a simple plot and not that complicated yet I was drawn in, because MC has everything under control and I find myself enjoying being one step ahead and look down on those villain's expression was very satisfying.

There's comedic tone and also the serious side, which actually mixed together pretty well

I LOVE MC, his has the best quirks, best personality. He has his demon side, yet still he can be human too. He's not your typical... more>> virg*n mary but he have his tipping scales about the things and people he cared about. Yet his demon side didn't subside but he's not about cruelty at all. I love him so much

I love Uncle system. One of the better system out there, more of these systems please.

ML is abit boring but he's a great person in general, suffer alot great hero

Their relationship is so sweet aww love them both

Other characters are so very and have their own traits. I love this whole taboo traits which I find very interesting and I think this one of the best variant that I come to love

I enjoy every minute of this novel highly recommend <<less

Although the romance didn't develop until near the end, I enjoyed what little bit I got. They're so sweet when they got together!

Other than the late romance, I really enjoyed getting to know the different characters, their relationships and their motivations. For me, it's a light read and feels good!

It's the first story I've finished in awhile! Minimal misunderstandings between ML and MC, strong MC (a bit gary sue but I didn't mind) and very sweet.

The plot really kept me going until the end but you'll have to wait for the sweetness (relationship picks up at chapter 80 ish) and before then it's a bjt slow.

Love love if you love a thrilling and interesting/unique plot, strong MC and ML, no misunderstandings and smooth plot.

Sweet romance. Sometimes it felt dull, but every time it felt dull it became captivating soon after.

Straight forward plot. No interpersonal angst between the MC and ML.

The story wrap up was well above average.

It’s a good breather between long / angsty novels. Pretty short but good pacing, not too much depth but not lacking in consideration for details. Ofc you can be nitpicky but overall it has enough details for a short story. The system is less of a stereotypical system and more like an emotionally intelligent assistant with the mindset of an elder equipped with a portable market. You could say the romance is a bit abrupt but it depends on interpretation and consideration for the perspectives of the MC and ML.... more>> If you’re only here for romance then gotta let you know it’s only the last 10 ch or so. <<less

3.5/4 stars.

I had quite a few expectations for this OP MC, stronger than ML novel.

The premise was really good and this was well on its way to a 4/4.5 stars, however the plot points, antagonists and then climax were pretty disappointing. The earlier antagonists were resolved almost off-screen in a very anticlimactic way after a lot of build up, and the last one can't even be considered a threat at all. MC is truly OP—which is fine, since that is one of the premises. However, I feel like the novel... more>> didn't handle that part in a comedic way enough, so everything just fell flat in the end. Even the revelation of MC's identity and how they got together was quite anticlimactic (and dare I say extremely boring) given how long it took (which, for me, isn't the issue here; I much prefer extreme slow burns). Writing isn't anything special either, hence the rating.

It was still enjoyable, though. <<less

3.5 rounded up to 4 stars

Easy and slightly flat read. MC, Ya Xiao, has a chill, positive personality. His main goal is to accumulate enough demon value to regrow his wings. He becomes ML's, Qin Q, butler to accomplish this goal.

MC ends up liking ML and the current world more and more over time. Things go as expected for this type of novel but it isn't boring. It's just that the last part of the novel could've been fleshed out better in regards to

how and why ML destroyed the Seventh Base's shield. ML had to destroy the shield since it was contaminated by the insect mother's cocoon. The details are vague and leaves a conspicuous void.

[collapse]

The ending is a happy one. This read is suitable for when you wanna take a break between the more serious novels. MC rarely experiences angst or none at all.

Spoiler

As ML's butler, MC's job is to serve ML and help him from going into madness. When ML is triggered, he is treated with harmful drugs which leads to a slowing down of DV gain. MC starts protecting ML and trying to keep ML in good condition to maintain a steady flow of DV.

MC thwarts assassination attempts on ML and helps uncover insects disguised as humans. In the end, MC catches the insect mother and seals her up after finding out that a new insect mother is born as soon as the old one dies.

Very good read. Straight forward MC and a very heroic ML. Their romance should be slowburn? But its so sweet. There’s no family dramas just semi realistic war scenes and heroes who want to protect and the sacrifice they made that most people don’t understand. Love the mystery solving and the world setting too. MC is op but so what, he just so cute and straight forward.. And ML just sweet. Lol stoic, selfless but sweet to MC. Good passing read. Thank you

I'll give it 4.5 stars. For like half the novel, it wasn't that great. There were good parts, but overall the quality wasn't that high. I almost dropped the novel because I was getting bored despite the MC's personality and the worldbuilding being quite interesting. I think the author never got over the issue of failing to make interesting characters. The MC was the most interesting, but even he couldn't carry the entire novel's worth of flat/1D characters. I remember who is who, but they aren't very interesting.

The plot... more>> was alright. I felt like there were some holes/illogical moments/inconsistencies, but it was coherent and interesting enough. I feel like the pacing was a bit slow though and could've been sped up a little. After all, I got bored until like chapter 70, which is about when things started to speed up. Please note that the novel is really a slow burn. Like, basically no romance for most of it. That said, I enjoyed the MC and ML being fluffy together. The romance was cute when it finally happened XD

The MC being OP wasn't handled very well imo. Like, it made for an easy read, but it made the novel less interesting because he could use the system's "cheats"/features and steamroll the enemies. I never felt like the MC would lose, and the way he won wasn't particularly interesting. The thing that saved the plot was the mystery behind the ML's past actions since that kept me wanting to know more.

This novel isn't bad, but it's nothing special imo. Felt a bit cringe sometimes, haha. It's fun at times, but it's not mindblowing or super deep. It's an easy read if you want something simple. If you want something deep, this prob isn't it. The ending is also kinda... there. Not bad, but it sure felt anticlimactic XD

Chapter 48 Review:

Will review again once I read more, but so far.. eh. It's decent enough, but it's lacking something. Like, a soul? It's interesting and I feel like I should be having fun (esp since the novel is my type), but I'm getting kinda bored. It just feels kinda flat. Maybe because we haven't connected with many characters? The MC is cute and fun, but I guess he's getting stale or not interesting enough to carry the entire novel. His powers also make much of the plot a lot less interesting (makes things too convenient for him; feels contrived sometimes).

The novel just feels a bit bland even though it's filled with what should be interesting events/characters. The worldbuilding/setting is awesome though! <<less

This was a great story! It had just enough mystery to keep the plot moving along, but what I loved the most was the endearing MC, the overly cautious ml, and their dynamic. The misunderstandings had my chuckling in the beginning. And the resolution (though it did feel a bit too easy) was very satisfying in the end. The whole book is a bit of propaganda for self sacrificing and being forthright. It glorifies soldiers, but in a very realistic setting and circumstances. The world building in the story is... more>> very nice - I completely understand the logic of the current world, and even a bit of the demon world the MC came from. It does feel like the MC has a golden finger throughout the story, which is why the ending resolves itself so quickly, but the author balances that with glimpses at the original plot and how difficult victory was in the original universe. I actually quite enjoyed it. I hate stories where the resolution appears out of thin air, but this story didn't really have that problem in my mind. We still see the ml's struggle and the MC slowly getting more and more invested in his new world. The romance is also a bit of a slow burn, but I think that it's pretty respectfully done. It also prevents the novel from getting too syrupy for too long, which always makes me lose interest.

The plotline of an invisible enemy reminded me of Smash All Pots and Pans to Go To School. Spoiler: In Smash All Pots And Pans To Go To School, the invisible enemy is the Black Mist. In this story, the invisible enemy is the Smite. Qin Qi is thought to be the bad guy, but he's not. Like that organization in Smash All Pots, who everyone thought were the bad guys because they were killing people, but those people were actually infected. Anyways yeah, not a long review because I don't feel like going into depth about why and how I liked it. Good news! I didn't read a review for this story, so I did not have expectations and did not feel bad.

I came from next door because I thought this MC was the crybaby host the other novel's system kept referring to he wasn't.

Tried reading it anyway and it pleasantly surprised me. It was pretty light-hearted for a novel involving wars (with insects?zergs?) and there were way more comedic and heartwarming situations than serious ones. Maybe it's because the MC himself is a very easy-going person, the whole novel had a cute filter whenever he was involved.

Honestly, my impression of the author is that they really love hidden identities. All of... more>> the author's MCs have some big background and are secretly powerful. Good and bad, because it's super exciting to read about hidden cards, but after the novelty wears off it starts feeling draggy and reused. I think the author did a better job in puppet notes maintaining that status quota since the ML knew about MC's powers from the start. Their relationship was a bit more equal. For this, it got a little on my nerve when the ML still wasn't in the know after interacting with MC's hidden identity for the nth time. Despite the MC being ML's bulter, the one pulling the strings is MC. ML does have parts where he shine but majority of the time it's really just MC saving the day. ML is the damsel in distress. MC really carried the entire story from the start to end.

That said, it's feeling a little draggy at the part I'm at, so taking a break before coming back. All in all a pleasant read and I look forward to more works from the author, they keep improving. <<less

I really like this series, but I do wish there were more chapters with their relationship.

It is a very slow burn series where it follows the "regular" butler duties (for this world) of the MC for the beginning and there was a section of that during the spring meeting arc. After that there was more interlacing of action and regular day-to-day.

If you're looking for a action heavy series, this isn't for you. If you think following day-to-day stuff is boring, this also isn't for you. If you don't like slow-burn... more>> (romance between characters develops slowly), this is also not for you.

If you're for a story-focused romance (basically where the romance is a side-plot from the main story), this is for you.

If you were looking for a demon story-focused romance with explicit intimacy, this isn't it. GOOD story-focused with explicit intimacy is already hard to find, let alone having that with demon characters (or any non-completely-human character for that matter.)

For the general record; just because someone wants a story with explicit chapters, doesn't mean that they want EVERY romance to have those. They just happen to want to find a story with a certain type of plot (like a futuristic story with a demon butler in this case), with that added content. They could LOVE a specific plot for stories, and they could all just be fluffy romances, but they want to find something explicit with that plot to see what it's like.

(Just felt the need to add this because someone on the TL page under the series asked if there was smut and someone immediately jumped to saying "Are one of those book tok people that cry for "spice" in every book they read or something?" when that's a complete overreaction to a simple question.)

Overall, I like this story personally, but there is a lot in it that is geared to more specific audiences, so I'd recommend testing the water yourself to see if you'll like it. There are a few critiques I'd make, but those are just personal opinion and don't affect the review so I don't feel the need to write them out. The only critique that slightly affected the review was the extra chapters being so condensed and fast paced.

It felt like there was a lot the author wanted to include in the after-story, but they decided to just condense EVERYTHING into just 4 chapters. It just felt like there was so much missing in the after-story because the author just wanted to end the series faster. The author could have just ended the story at the end of the main story, and, although there would be some things people wished happened or they wish they new more about, it would have been fine.

But, they condensed revelations about the original timeline (where Ya Xiao wasn't there), with Ya Xiao and Qin Qi being lovey-dovey, with the Demon Realm (trying to be vague as to not spoil things), with a meeting with the marshals. It was just far too much to condense into 4 chapters, so, as a result, a lot of details were skipped. I know it's the extra chapters and not the main story, but they're still very much a part of the story and do affect how you feel surrounding the story.

I would still recommend reading them, as there really is a lot that happens, but don't expect the chapters to be the same quality as the main story. <<less
