- Did not finish, do not recommend
- Didn't like it for several reasons
- Okay, satisfactory
- Pretty good read
- This is going on my lifetime favorites
Setting: 4/5- The universe is established pretty well, but is lacking slightly geographically. Politics are explored very thoroughly.
- The power system is a bit bland and a bit lazy. The author doesn't really explain in detail why things work as they do. However, he uses them in really fun-to-read ways, so I am okay with it.
- The author likes to include a lot of extra details and info-dumps about the world, so it's very immersive.
- Overall, the setting was well-done, 4/5.
Main Characters: 4/5- The story is told mainly from the MC's POV, but occasionally swaps between multiple different POVs to show the reader the full story.
- There are many characters in this 703 chapter novel, but I wouldn't say there are too many characters. Though our MC joins a school with over 100, 000 students, only those of importance are given a face, name, and story. All the characters that we are introduced to are somehow woven well into the story.
- They're very well-developed (and fairly intelligent). Almost all the characters are so deeply explored that, in retrospect, I can understand how they would act in each situation.
- Though they may display some stereotypical traits in the beginning, as the author delves into both their past experiences and their inner thoughts, you can see how multi-dimensional each of them are. The author explore their thoughts and emotions in great detail throughout each event that happens in the story, and that makes them all feel believable.
- A major gripe I have is that quite a few of the characters are emotionally immature and a recurring theme is self-blame to the point of self-loathing mixed with lack of communication.
- Overall, the characters were great, even if I got annoyed at some of them. It feels wrong not to give the characters a 5/5 since I enjoyed them so much, but my previous point is unignorable, 4/5.
Plot/Pacing: 4/5- The pacing of the story is slow and deliberate. The author likes to go in depth to explain things, which made for a very interesting view into his world. He likes to write scenarios from multiple different perspectives, and shows how all the characters progress with differing ideas of what the big picture is. (I should add that I usually like slower stories, but there were certain arcs that felt slow to me, so treat this as a bit of a warning to anyone who doesn't like slow plots.)
- Comparably, the ending felt rushed and in the end, I was left with several unanswered questions and I wish we got a longer epilogue to explain everything that happened.
- The story was fairly predictable because as you discover more and more information from different characters' perspectives, you can slowly piece together what is happening (which stems from the author being very deliberate).
- Overall, the plot was slow (sometimes too slow), but well-written, 4/5.
Overall Writing: 5/5- One minor problem I had with the writing was that the author likes to repeat himself a lot for emphasis (?), which can get annoying.
- One of my favorite things is how convincingly the author can write both hype moments and tragic moments. He delves into the emotions of the involved characters and is very skilled at setting the mood.
- Overall, the writing was incredible, 5/5.
Enjoyability Factor: 5/5
