The Disabled Tyrant’s Pet Palm Fish [Transmigration]

Description

One day, Li Yu transmigrated into a fish. Furthermore, this fish even had a master. This master was the sinister and terrifying, mute tyrant from a novel. The system gave Li Yu a task. If he wanted to change back into a human, he had to obtain the tyrant’s heart.

Li Yu full of tears: System, please wake up. I’m only a fish. He can’t even speak. How can we interact?

System: Stop jabbering. To take down the tyrant, you must attack his heart.

Li Yu: Can I ask, does the tyrant have a heart–

Li Yu did his best to blow bubbles at the tyrant, but ended up being captured by the tyrant and raised carefully in a huge, ginormous…… fish tank. The life of a fish was filled with all sorts of blessings.

Everyday, Mu Tianchi watched the little carp swim around happily, pondering when this fish would finally transform into a human.

The little carp didn’t know. It’s not that the tyrant had no heart, it’s just that he already gave it away to the little carp that accidentally saved his life.

Too many plotholes and brain damage.

He has short fins but can tie ropes all over his body.

Has fish mouth that can’t speak but is easily giving orders to the guards.

... more>> And what’s with this “he’ll still make the same choice” knowing that it was a wrong choice and didn’t even have a sentimental significance to it. It was plain s*upid.

What human? What transformation? He’s clearly reverting back to being a s*upid fish day by day.

This is by far the most stereotypical Mary Sue MC I’ve seen in a danmei. S*upid, weak, oblivious, illogical and always getting in trouble, just waiting to get rescued by ML every time

Pick it up if you want to read a no-brainer story for a relief but don-t try to apply logic. Just keep your brain outside the door before reading and maybe you'll like it. <<less

For a novel named the disabled tyrant's pet palm fish, the treatment of the disabled ML in this novel is very ableist.

Near the end of the novel, the ML states that he does not want to have another child as he's afraid that the child will be disabled, like him. He only agrees to have a child after his disability is cured. This insinuation that disabled people shouldn't exist as their existence would only bring suffering is atrocious. Additionally, it feeds into the rhetoric that disabled people shouldn't have children... more>> which honestly just feels like a justification for eugenics.

The way that the ml's disability is cured just feels like a cop-out for ML to be able to ascend the throne. Instead of figuring out a way for disabled people to be in places of power, ML is just cured. MC, despite being from modern times, does not introduce the concept of sign language, or popularise it to make communication with mute people easier. ML also communicates with his subordinate through his eyes, which also feels like a cop-out.

The addition of a love rival for the MC for the ml's attraction just feels unnecessary. He only serves to make the main couple look more lovey dovey with each other.

Lastly, for a book centred around fish the conditions that the fish lives in would be considered ab*se in real life. The fish casually enters different bodies of water without the need for acclimation. The fish is also carried around in a small glass bottle. As the bottle is closed and mostly filled with water, there would be insufficient dissolved oxygen to sustain the fish for extended periods of time, not to mention the lack of space in the glass bottle. When returning back to the modern world, the ML fish is immediately placed into a bathtub where water is poured into him. Typically, tap water should be left to sit for about a day before it is used for fish due to the fluorine in the water, as fresh tap water can harm the fish. But ML survives anyway, because fish can survive as long as there's moisture right?

In conclusion, the novel seems uneducated on both disabled people, and fishes, leading to an appealing read overall. <<less

I had to take a few breaks reading because it was too cute and my brain cells were also being killed by the s*upidity of MC but otherwise, it's amusing and lighthearted. Wouldn't really recommend as it's honestly a waste of time, but it's alright if you want to turn your brain off for a bit. I really can't justify wasting any more time on this but maybe I'll go back and finish. Looking at the other reviews it seems the plot won't change much.

This MC is so brain dead,... more>> I almost feel bad for his system. There were times that I got annoyed at just how little awareness he had, but MC does have his moments of self reflection that make his dumbness more bearable. He's very much an act first think later kind of person (fish?), and it honestly was unbelievable the mental gymnastics he performed to convince himself that ML had no idea that his human form was the fish.

There's a lot of plot points in this novel that make no logical sense, but so long as you suspend disbelief, it's still enjoyable. At some point I was just laughing to myself thinking about how large these "teacups" would have to be to hold our increasingly large fish. The fact that he can live perfectly fine in literal teacups is also ridiculous, like my brain really hurt trying to justify why MC hadn't already died from lack of oxygen.

Villains in this novel are also a little too dumb, and the court politics are not very engaging since everyone is an idiot. Pretty much every plot point is pushed to the background in favor of showing how cute MC is and how whipped ML is for him. I will however issue a special shout out to the ML for being 100% on board to f*ck his pet fish because bro was ready to go literally as soon as he found out MC had a human form. <<less

Comedy was solid at first but the gags started getting tiring at one point, and the end felt dragged-out that even when I was still 20 chapters away from the end, I was already wishing that the book would just end. The romance just felt wishy-washy (?) to me, and it's just not my cup of tea. I can't deny that both Li Yu and Mu Tianchi are willing to deal extremes for each other's sakes though.

main characters → ★★☆☆☆ (eh. I know characters aren't supposed to be perfect... more>> but li yu just doesn't cut it for me. He was okay-ish at first, and I honestly prefer him as a fish, instead of his little mermaid ish situation)

side characters → ★☆☆☆☆ (eh. I guess they're funny at first. The side character I like the most is piaoxue)

plot → ★★☆☆☆ (interesting premise, but it started going off my tastes later on)

dynamic investment → ★☆☆☆☆ (i don't particularly care about the pairing and I'm not convinced by the romantic development/involvement between li yu and mu tianchi)

pacing → ★★☆☆☆ (dragged a lot, but that's attributed to me slowly but surely losing interest halfway through because it just drags on and on forever)

overall satisfaction (aka how willing am I to reread this, consume fanworks, or actually keep the characters here and their world in my brain not as a stain to sneer on but to fondly recall?) → ★☆☆☆☆ (eh.) <<less

made an account just for this. I'm sorry but this novel is a solid 3 stars, 3.5 at best.

it was acceptable in the first half. it's just light-hearted fluff where it's not really meant to be taken seriously, but then it tries to become serious in the latter half. that's where it falls apart.

it tries to integrate palace intrigue, villanious schemes, secrets, etc etc... which all fall flat and feel half-assed. it's like it's there for the sake of making it interesting. but honestly? this would've fared better if it... more>> kept the consistent light-hearted tone. you already set this up as a novel that's not meant to be taken entirely seriously, what makes you think i'll now be invested in half-baked schemes and twists?

the way they try to tie everything together and even set up the big bad guy at the end is so... half-baked. that is the only word to describe it. it isn't interesting, it doesn't give you any sense of gratification for figuring out the truth, it's just... ugh. another mystery? again? woww. gosh. oh okay now the MC is h**ny again

the characters themselves are flat. I could describe them in a few sentences, but you'd have to put me at gunpoint to make a wiki page for them. you click on the personality section and it would be a stub. they lack dimension, motivation, and character.

as i've seen a few people mention, yeah... the characters are pretty dense, especially the MC. again, if they kept it light-hearted and comedic, I can at least understand why the MC keeps getting away with hiding his identity and the like. but no, the novel makes an effort to be taken seriously. so you're just left facepalming at the characters' antics.

i could go more into detail but i've already dedicated enough of my time reading this. it feels equivalent to eating soggy fries. is it good? eh, could be. i'll keep eating it because it's a waste, even if it's gone soggy and stale. it's mildly yummy but it lacks the texture of good french fries, the crispness and warmth from being fresh out the fryer. it's soggy and mildly disappointing.

recommended for people who want to read it for fun and get into something light. but if you're someone who gets deep into criticizing what they read... you'll just get frustrated reading this mess. <<less

"If you can ignore your conscience and tolerate your brain holes, feel free to read this. It's a good read."

I agree with this review. MC is s*upid. ML greenflag (a bonus)

At first I find the MC dumbness endearing but haaaaaa after constantly getting slapped by his s*upidity and childish behaviour I too would lost my love for him..

Lots of plot holes. The story can't sustain with just fluff and comedy element only y'know. It's a good read if you can ignore the major flaws and plotholes but I think... more>> there's a lot more danmei here that have better writing but are very underrated. This book can't even compare to married thrice to salted fish (4.7) or mistakenly Saving the Villain (4.6) or s*umbag system (svsss) (4.4) <<less

This is one of the MOST CHARMING stories I have ever read. At the beginning, you might lose some brain cells reading the novel but it's funny if you take the story lightly. As the story progresses, you will realize the beauty of this novel. It's extremely fun to read.

CHARACTERS

I like the ML very much. He is a tyrant as per the book's title but honestly he is the cutest tyrant to ever exist. He can't speak but he has this presence that makes him shine bright throughout... more>> the story. Also, I am extremely glad to say that unlike similar C-BL novels, he as a ML doesn't force himself upon MC and respects MC's feelings very much.

MC is naive but really cute. He isn't the typical meek, submissive boyfriend either. He is strong in his own way. Although he is portrayed as a bottom (I don't like the segregation of top and bottom), he is actually the one who initiates physical intimacy. This is extremely rare in C-novels.

Regarding the side characters, most of them are not one-dimensional. They are really just side characters. The whole focus is only on MC and ML and some on the family of ML and some attendants of MC and ML. They are eccentric and loveable. Also, villains are really detestable. But I am sad that they are only shown to be power hungry to the point of being irrational and not morally grey like every human is.

RELATIONSHIP

The relationship between MC and ML is very healthy. Ever since the beginning of the novel, the relationship between MC and ML as a pet fish and his master was extremely fluffy. Although before their official relationship started, there were some misunderstandings, but after they got together, they were like honey and maple syrup and sugar and everything sweet all mixed together. They have equal footing on the relationship and they immensely care and respect each other. As I have already said, both MC and ML don't force themselves on each other and just let their relationship flow naturally. Although the system somehow forced MC to do things to ML which created some misunderstandings, they were all dealt beautifully.

STORY

The story itself is WELL-BALANCED. Nothing is overdone. Normally, historical C-novels include a lot of unnecessary face-slapping, easy power up, royal dog blood drama and sloppy romance. But this novel has a proper balance of everything.
    • Face-slapping: Face slapping is there but in a moderate amount when it is absolutely necessary. And there are some real face slapping as well, lol. Thank god there are not people who get offended just because MC or ML breathe. There also aren't many cases where literally everyone jumps up onto MC or ML for revenge. MC and ML also have a healthy relationship.
    • Royal Drama: Also most of the times, we see kings to be extremely paranoid and always make worst decisions. They are always led by the nose by some concubine or prince and are always on guard against MC or ML. However, this novel has a king who has his wits preserved and treats ML fairly. In fact, he is really cool and sometimes cute. May be this is the reason why the royal drama isn't irritating. It is well-written and can be said to be somewhat realistic.
    • Serious Moments: Although the novel really is devoid of logic and science sometimes, there really are some moments where I was so overwhelmed.
      Spoiler

One time MC gets sick and ML gets all panicked and carries MC to take him to the imperial physician instead of asking the physician for a visit. But he is mute so he can't even shout to ask anyone for help. So he coughs and coughs for servants to notice him. Of course he had a bell in his room with which he can summon servants. But he was so anxious that he forgets everything and coughs to grab attention. God, that was so freaking emotional.

      [collapse]
Also, the fact that MC can get pregnant is also handled well. In the other stories with mpreg where a man transmigrates to a different world where he can suddenly give birth, they act so calm like it's nothing. For example, "Banished to Another World", "Poisonous Peasant Concubine", etc. Even a woman who knows her entire life about pregnancy gets all emotional and faces mood swings during pregnancy. How can a man who suddenly became pregnant not experience that?? But in this story, MC goes through a sudden breakdown was so realistic and touching.

Although there are so many transmigration novels where MC travels to an ancient era, there are pitifully few novels where women's status gets developed by the MC's effort. Especially in BL novels, since MC is a male, this rarely happens. But in this novel, MC takes steps into uplifting women. In fact, after he gets some royal power, the first drastic thing he does is to change widow's life. Damn, I was so happy!
    • Supernatural: And the supernatural or mythical portion around MC is also well-written, albeit s*upid and funny. This supernatural part makes the story seriously charming. Like really charming!!!
    • Power-up: Also, the things MC has to do to "power up" are so hilarious and awkward. Poor guy! But ML definitely was happy hahaha.
CONCLUSION

All in all, this novel is a fun read. It's relaxing and fluffy. There are some places where things get absolutely absurd but I think that is what makes this novel stand out from other similar novels. I have been reading all these popular transmigration novels for so long but this definitely is the one that has the BEST OF EVERYTHING. I basically didn't get bored a bit, laughed out loud a lot of times, cried a few times and even dreamt about having a relationship despite being ace/aro myself (yeah, the story literally slaps your face with dog food enough to feed all the dogs in the world for their whole life). <<less

However, in the latter half,

the plot holes will be glaringly obvious and the MC’s “naivety”, which endeared me at first, slowly became intolerable. I’ve been warned to turn off my brain while reading this, but I’ve reached my limit 😔 I would still recommend it for the shits and giggles and the absurdity of it all.

This book is ridiculous and silly and I enjoyed every second of it. I sincerely don't have the words for how simultaneously awful and wonderful this story is. It's so light and fluffy and easy that I honestly might even convince myself to reread it someday.

The characters are delightful and sometimes bland to the point of being 2 dimensional. I adore them and how unabashedly optimistic the entire story is??? It's happy ending after happy ending and saccharine to the extreme.

This is the most bizarre thing I have ever read, and strangely, I enjoyed it. I anticipated that there would be more drama, but actually, it was a nice read without excessive drama. I guess because of 2ha, I have PTSD. Every time I see some kind of animal name in the title of the novel, I think it should be full of dog blood. But this one was full of love and cuteness. At the end, it became more tense, but all in all, it is a light read.... more>> Actually, I think the title is missing something, for example the word pampered. The tyrant spoils the fish unprecedentedly; the whole novel is about how the tyrant is protecting and spoiling him.

The first part of the novel was really funny.
Spoiler

Most of the scenes are about fish and the tasks he must complete. The system issues the tasks; actually, they aren't hard; they are just a bit vague, and the host often interprets them wrongly and goes a bit too far.

[collapse]
The main point of the story was Fish and his masters daily lives and their interactions. In the later half of the novel, there were more dog-blood scenes. More and more dangerous and interesting situations arose. All these scenes were written very lightly and weren't dragged out, so instead of being scared or worried for the protagonist, I rather enjoyed reading them and was interested in how the tyrant and fish would deal with all of that.

I loved both MC and ML. MC is only 18 years old, and he is full of contradictions. Sometimes he is clever, but at the same time, he makes careless mistakes and is a bit emotional. I wouldn't say that he is super smart, but he has a kind heart, always makes useful suggestions, and tries to make the lives of other people better. But what I like most about him is that he knows about his own shortcomings and has good self-awareness. He's only 18 but still thinks deeply about relationships.
Spoiler

Yes, he truly likes ML, but now he is in ancient times. He acknowledges the fact that in modern times and in ancient times, views about relationships drastically differ. He knows that he needs to think things through; the consequences of breaking up for him will be terrible. He also can't stand the idea that he can only be a concubine or that his loved one will have others. He knows that relationship with ML will be dangerous but still is willing to risk his safety for love. His decision wasn't impulsive. I really liked how well this part was written. It made me think once again how horrible it would be for women to live in those times, when they had no voice and were used as tools.

[collapse]

I love ML too. His character is very interesting.
Spoiler

He is mute That truly affected his personality.

[collapse]
Because of his disability, ML was bullied and ignored. He is so clever and capable, but his talents were wasted because people are prejudiced against people with disabilities. His problems didn't affect his capabilities, so ignoring him was a huge mistake. He could do so many great deeds. But he himself never felt angry or hateful. I like that he is so level-headed and clear-headed.

The novel is set in ancient times, but still, there are problems that I think are relevant today too. The author didn't point it out directly, but how society treats people with disabilities or problems that women face today was mentioned so cleverly that I loved it. It is definitely light reading, but many important topics were covered.

I also loved that there were many cute babies. I have a soft spot for children, so reading about sweet little creatures made me immediately forget parts of the novel I didn't like or had some misgivings. All in all, this novel is well-written; there are many sweet and funny moments; the plot is simple but still interesting; it has nice flow, good characters, a few unexpected plot twists, and enough intrigue to make it gripping but not too heavy to read. How the MC transmigrated was pretty unique too so I think it is a good read and would recommend. <<less

Between fish tanks and pillows.

This story was quite a surprise, no red flags, no holes in the plot, funny, pe*verted...

Certainly an essential in the palace dannmei. Personally I would give 4 stars, but would be completely conditioned to the moment mpreg (I still not a fan) but being objective deserves the 5 stars.

The plot could not begin more cliché (person dies reading a book and transmigrate to the novel along with a sh*t system), and at the same time giving it a turn of its own and attractive to the... more>> reader. Creating palace intrigues, and a romance that at first might seem very strange (let’s not forget that the MC is a fish).

I was a hater who eventually became a happy reader who finished this with a deep sigh lol. (I kind of wish it never ended haha)

I'm a fan of MPreg so I kept getting this in my recs lists but I kept putting it off for legit years. Mostly because of some of the negative reviews and well... fish. I'm down for some fantasy with shades of beastiality but... Fish. Like. I couldn't see anything sexy about it. Mermaids I get. Fish? Yah no.

So I vividly remember the first... more>> three times I tried to read this and immediately noped out after a chapter or two because I hated the system and didn't think I'd even enjoy this with a naive protag.

Buuuut. I was going thru CG's completed catalogue and decided to give this one last shot and apply my 10chapter DNF rule. The rating of this novel was promising and if I still disliked it after 10 chapters, at least I'd given it a shot.

I hated how it started because the idea of a fish character really was unattractive to me. But then I hit the 10 chapter mark and I was still reading and I could actually start seeing why people said this was story was pretty cute.

It's not a perfect novel. But I couldn't put it down. I guess I read it at the time I was finally in the right mindset for it (tired from bingeing an array of BL with Hella tonne of noncon with little reward or satisfaction).

Loved the MC. He's a pretty simple, sweet, honest guy. Kind but not a Saint, naive but also showing smarts once and a while.

Loved the ML. Loved the side characters. Loved the kids. Loved the weirdass situations involving fish.

I found a few things I could nitpick but overall, this was a great read to warm the heart. <<less

was a sense of novelty, characters are very nice and calm. But starting with chapter 20, there’s a complete lack of logic. The protagonist at first seems smart man, but the further away, they more his intelligence rolls to the fish. Not to mention the plot holes, the lack of physics and the variety of supporting characters. Villains have one plan for all or that

I LOVED!!!

I have no words to describe how good this novel was. Serious.

It surprised me a lot, I wasn't expecting it, but this plot of the mute ML and the MC being a transmigrated fish interested me a lot, I found it very original, so I decided to read it. Best decision I made!

EVERYTHING is very well developed, the story, each character, the villains, the couple's relationship. Everything was so well developed that I was surprised, I haven't found a novel like this for a long time, the author didn't... more>> leave anything open, even small characters had their endings.

And the couple's relationship is just PERFECT. ML is PERFECT, if one day he made a mistake, he was trying to get it right (laughs). The ML is SO dedicated to the MC and it's as beautiful as the MC is also dedicated to the ML. It's very beautiful to see how the two love each other, how they trust and respect each other, a kind of relationship that I find difficult to find in my readings, of course, I love reading romance, so of course I see a lot of couples in love, but the relationship this MC and ML, the way they treat each other... it's beautiful. <<less

I both love and hate this novel. Mainly, because of the MC's naivety and lack of some consideration.

I take it back. The MC is s*upid but sometimes he goes OOC and suddenly becomes smart. There were many hints about the system's tasks but he decides to throw it at the back of his mind and forgets. In the end, he gets angry about it when the time comes.

Spoiler

There were many instances when he made wrong decisions.

One the irked me is when he hid the fact that he was pregnant and ignored the ML. Then acted spoiled and smug when the ML found out. Thus, the ML had to make ways to make it so that the MC who is male actually got pregnant and gave birth.

Then there was that time that the enemy did tricks to make the MC think their children have been kidnapped. The ML clearly assured him that the children are safe but MC did not trust him and ran to out. This resulted in him being scene which caused some effects in his transformation

Thankfully, the ML is devoted, has money and power so it is good.

MC also doesn't have awareness being in ancient times. Almost had a kind cook punished.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Some scenes are also hilarious.

Like that scene when the system announced that MC will be pregnant with a daughter is they continued their bed exercise.

The MC was excited: "She's here! She's here!"

Ultimately, it lead to a female assassin stumbling and getting caught because she thought she was found out.

The duck army was hilarious too. XD

MC's transformations can be both funny and annoying. Fish Head lol

Spoiler

The ending was good, though. At the end they were now a family of five.

Well this story surprisingly good.

Personally I thought that this story would be boring, but it wasn't at all.

This story has a light and funny plot, but at the same time it also has a fairly tense internal conflict, causing this story to have a good balance plot, which prevents us from feeling monotonous because of boredom.

... more>> ML itself is very good, while for MC sometimes he is a little bit slow, but it's not to the point of being an idiot.

The only drawback of this story may lie in the lack of a story after conflict.

I mean there isn't even a bonus chapter at all, which is a shame.

Spoiler

Throughout the story, even though MC and ML's relationship was always sweet, but it never really got to the point where they had a lot of fun, because there was a time limit for the MC to become Human or some other things... So I really wanted a bonus chapter that describes MC & ML having fun as a family without any obstacles or limitations.

The MC is honestly kind of annoying. Too childish and somewhat spoiledly rude to the ML. Before the truth discovered (i mean, both of them know about MC's identity), the relationship between them kinda uncomfortable to me. The MC, once again, too childish and annoying.

The typical I am confused so I ran away and do not want to listen to your explanation. Even though, reality wise, ML didn't do anything wrong at that time. Plus, remember that ML IS MUTE. And the MC still has the audacity to run away... more>> and refuse to listen when the ML clearly need him to calm down and let him (ML) write the explanation.

Indeed, the angst is minimal, but the drama caused by their relationship development honestly not my cup of tea🙂
