The E-Sports Circle’s Toxic Assembly Camp

Description

Chief tactician Lin Yan entered an e-sports novel. At this time, there was still a whole year to go before the original plot started.

The big devil who would frighten people in the future was still a thin-skinned little anchor; the disaster who once disturbed the e-sports circle was playing as an accompanying player; the best healer was sitting on the cold bench of a third-rate team; the strongest king at shooting his mouth off offending the media and his black materials were flying all over the place…

They would shine as the plot progressed but unfortunately, their teams weren’t strong enough. In the end, they couldn’t escape the fate of a cannon fodder.

Lin Yan couldn’t bear to see these talents being wasted. The e-sports professional reality show started and he spent money to set up the GH Club, moving from east to west to select his team.

The variety fans: ??? Is this ‘Go Home’ team picking up the junk?

This lasted until all the opponents were coughing up blood at GH’s tactics and could only watch GH get a ticket to the professional league.

The entire e-sports circle knew that apart from their captain Jing Yuanzhou, the entire GH team was a group of barely qualified variety show players not worth paying attention to. As a result, this toxic team swept through the field and reached the top in their first year of the league.

When the media interviewed GH: Captain Jing, why did you agree to Coach Lin’s proposal and join GH?

Jing Yuanzhou: He pestered me every day saying ‘I want you’. It was really difficult to turn down such great kindness.

Lin Yan: “???”

Check the salary deduction warning.

The entire Internet went crazy: Parental love is real!!!

2.5 Stars - Dropped

Hmm, this seems like a fine story but I don't feel all that excited about the sport because it isn't all that interesting. At first they just didn't explain it so I had to google LOL and how it works. So I understand a very basic structure but there are still many terms I don't understand, like Heads, the row of apparently spawning soldiers that maybe belong to each side that attack the other's base (?) and economy. Also, I don't understand what all the buffs do... more>> for the team or what a jungler's rhythm is or how it helps the team. It is okay to read it but there is no excitement in it for me, even though I love underdogs. It's just the main group has too much of a protagonist halo for me to feel any stakes. Even if they lose, the game they lost has no importance so it doesn't matter. Any training or teaching that goes on by the coach isn't really substantial because it's all empty words. For example, the first one for Gloy, it was all just if you were faster by 3 seconds, you could fit a move here, at 7 minutes 37 seconds, if you stepped 1 step to the left, you could have fit in this move, etc. It has no meaning for me as a reader so I just skimmed it. Then, for everything else until now, it was all told, not shown, like how Lan Yin went through the half-hour replay that was so detailed that it extended to 2 hours, but we don't know what he has to say. Basically, all the lectures are just minor things like the efficiency of the players which is a boring problem for the reader to read about. Or something simple like they need more communication and practise working together since there are tiny mistakes happening... but we don't feel the impact of these tiny mistakes because they are just told to us that way. Like, were they too slow? Too fast? Accidentally ignored a teammate? It feels a little too glazed over. I really want to feel right in the thick of it, not this distant feeling from the game.

Honestly, the only reason I kept reading on was the idea of Abyss face-slapping the bad guy. But it's gonna take a long time to reach that. And a lot of game-related stuff needs to happen before that. Also, the faceslapping feels a bit lukewarm so far because it happened in the game which doesn't feel important enough zzz The criminal charges were done too but it happened too offscreen for me that there is currently no satisfaction. Like I want to see their faces and hear all their denials but it was all handled by a side character I don't know over the phone.

The romance part is okay when reading about it but after reading, I don't understand how the ML fell in love? He just had a drunken encounter with the MC where the MC spent hours talking about all the things he would have done instead of the ML's management's bad choices. It was too skimmed through. The story only told me the meaning of the actions not really what the actions were, so I felt distant from what they were talking about. It was told not shown. Apparently, the ML was feeling down? But this period of feeling down wasn't shown to me so I don't feel it. I didn't see the ML feeling sad and then feeling touched when the MC said all those stuff. So it was insta-lovey for me.

I also find the writing of the sad pasts a bit too quick and simple. I wish they had drawn it out more so we would feel more curiosity before giving us the answers. And then, when the author did decide to give us the sad past, it was all told in one shot. So... after that, there was nothing interesting left to know about the MC. So far, for the MC, he is okay-ish interesting to read about. I just wish he could display his smartness in a way I really get it. For the ML, so far he's kinda bland and kinda boring? We just know that he is a God in the game but we don't really see why he is so good? Like what makes him so unique? Is he particularly cunning? Particularly fast? Unpredictable? A gamer that is good at spotting opportunities in midgame and the small mistakes of the enemy team? Amazing at planning and strategy? What? Idk :) Dang I'm making too many comparisons to King's Avatar. Every player there is unique and brings their own specialties into the picture unlike here where the specialty seems limited to their game role only.

Honestly, this is my 3rd time reading an esports CN (the 2nd one I DNFed because it was so shallow) and I can't help comparing it unfavourably to Glory King's Avatar which I feel handled the esports far better, making me really understand what was happening and giving me a much easier time rooting for the MC in the game. I feel much more involved with all the gamers' goals and actions. Also, there are more relevant female characters there than here. So far, there isn't a single female character so it feels a bit unreal to me. Unless you count the cooking lady, who is only mentioned and not shown lol In King's Avatar, there are a few prominent female characters, 2 of which are part of the team and 1 as a sympathetic to the MC side character.

I'm a total s**ked for e-sport novels. It was a sweet read and I loved that the view came from the coach. The interaction between the MC and ML was really great. Such a healthy relationship, with a perfect give and take between the two.

No idea why it was/is tagged as Adult though. There is no gore and (sadly) no smut. It fades to black past kissing.

S-tier (4.9 star point)

This story is always about Lin Yan and Jing Yuanzhou, and their "adopted children" that formed into one big happy family. Lin Yan is also OP, but the OP-ness is also followed with the big flaw, which is his fear of being in enclosed space. There's no mention whether it was treated or not before, but we can see that throughout the novel, even up until the end, he still very much plagued with this trauma. It's not illness, it's a trauma. And it's not easy... more>> to fix. Even though the process of how he gradually could overcome it little by little might not be as scientific or even considered as "legal" in medical, but the magical cure is not there. There's still limitation for Lin Yan, and that's makes him stay balanced with the other male lead, Jing Yuanzhou.

Jing Yuanzhou is one of my most desired men, along with Luo Wenzhou, Lan Zhan, and Hua Cheng. My love for Jing Yuanzhou is how he's not the same model as other male lead: the cool, aloof, arrogant, those who is only nice to the person he loves. He is known as not liking to talk, and he chat once in blue moon, but from the communication with his past teammates, his friends in the e-sports circle, and even with his current teammates, he's not your usual male lead. He laughs often, he did talk to his teammates often, he is what you called the caring daddy. The name "Titan" really showed his capability and strength in the e-sports arena, but outside the area, he is just Jing Yuanzhou.

In this novel, the side characters are not forgotten. They're not just the foil for our two male leads to look brighter and shinier. Each one of them shines in their own way. Chen Yushen, Bi Yaohua, Gu Luo, and even Jian Ye the support not forgotten at all. They're all memorable. Even their rivals are also memorable. Each fight is fought to the highest degree, and it's really fun to watch them outwit each other.

This novel is what I considered as a very fun journey. All characters are really great and the friendship is thick. Main characters are mature so their relationship is progressing in a way that's adult-like as well. It's also reborn story, but it's formatted in a way that's less confusing, which is a plus score.

Even though it's reborn, it's not even very prominent in this one, it's just being used as the main setup for making the MC has the baseline to create his own team. 99% of this story is about e-sports. Romance is there, but it's slow burn. But it's still very entertaining and fun to read. <<less

4/5 stars so far, I'm dropping it after Ch72.

Watching how the main team develops into the demon team that the MC foresaw is interesting, but honestly, 65% of the story is e-sports, 25% is friendship/teamwork and 10% is romance, so I don't want to invest my time into it further because what I seek from romance/Danmei novels is the romance. The descriptions of practice matches and nearly every match the team plays are highly detailed, which suffocates me a bit with all the game talk. I was hoping this novel... more>> would be at least as romance-focused as I Can Do It, but it's nowhere close to it, after ~5k words of e-sports talk you might get three paragraphs about the MC and ML. It does make sense, though. MC is the coach so ofc he has to spend most of his time focusing on the team and doing some behind-the-scenes arrangements and planning.

A good aspect I liked: I prefer this more mature brand of humor and banter to the humor in more youthful novels like Glory.

I rate it high because it's not a fault of the story, it's my personal preference. I can only keep my interest in such a long work if there's more romance. The plot was interesting enough that I was able to stick through it for about ~150k words or so, which is why I decided it deserves a high score. <<less

I'm not that far in yet and I'll keep reading because I really want to like this novel.

I like the MC and ML as well as the side characters but... lol. It's getting a bit annoying reading 'big breasts'. I play a lot of video games and I understand that action video games usually cater to the male audience and so along with that, the male gaze. I just didn't think I'd have to read it in books too.

I've learned to ignore it or steer away from those games if... more>> they take it too far. The novel keeps bringing up the support character and how she has big breasts and a small waist. I can see why they bring up that the support game character is a female healer who looks kind because it's such a big contrast to the character who plays her but bringing up the big breasts every time is really just... disappointing. It would be different if the other video game characters were physically described too but they're not.

Bringing up the big breasts in the beginning was a bit weird but I understood and then it kept being brought up. Again and again. And calling her sexy.

Here is a paragraph about the video game character:

"Linley Witch was a shy beauty but now she had become an unrestrained hot rose."

Without context you'd think Linley Witch was one of the novel characters. She's being given more personality than the male character playing her lol. Every time Jian Ye is brought up, the game character he plays is described more than he is. His name might as well be Linley Witch.

Another weird paragraph. I think it contains a bit more info so I'll put a spoiler warning:

Spoiler

"As time passed, both sides soon reached level three. There was a flash of light and Jian Ye's Linley Witch finally took action. A new wave of soldiers had just arrived. She twisted her small waist and took a few steps forward."

[collapse]

It's just such a weird and useless thing to add. Maybe it's just me, idk.

It's not a serious issue just amusing and annoying (as well as weird). It's so off putting and random that it makes me not want to read the novel. But I'm used to pushing through so that's what I'll do.

On top of that, so far from the current chapter I'm on, there has not been one female character introduced. I think the only one I remember was the woman at the front desk who spoke one sentence to the MC and she was fawning over his looks. I'm really hoping there's more female characters with depth who have a chance to shine. I'll continue reading. It's a good novel from what I see and I'm not far in so I'm hoping it changes a bit.

I'll come back to edit once I do. I want to read further to really create a better review.

Edit: It got a bit better. It's not a bad novel. I still stand with the 4 stars but will probably DNF this novel and maybe come back to it later. <<less

I've read this book a couple of times, and I still feel a bit bitter after the main story ended. It ended with a lot of suspense and expectancy ┬┴┬┴┤_ಥ).

I come back here after I read other E-sport books and so far, one of the BEST because I like strategically smart protagonists that drive the whole plot with their abilities, dynamic 3D characters that are just as entertaining and strong, and last but not least, main couple's hot chemistry.

The way the technical games were explained made an inexperienced person like... more>> me get interested, and with a little touch of BL? Perfect. Translation? Amazing work. Thank you.

A similar book to this one is 'My teammates are all crazy' (I wish someone would pick up this book from where it was left off at chapter 93) and 'God level summoner' (Another awesome book with dynamic and strong side characters with a strategically smart MC). <<less

I loved it. The romance was slowly burning my mind with all that tension. By the end of the novel, I decided (once again) that I'll stay single for the rest of my life. My standards are way too high now 📈.

Mood: Currently searching for a new e-sports book to fill the void 😭

Okay, I really can't wait to put my review here 🤗😆

First of all, why did I skipped this many times? I now felt like those I've read so far that's related to eSports is somehow a bit lacking? If we are going to compare it with this novel.

-this novel has a great pacing. the characters were all focused. It didn't just stay between the ML and the MC but, it all included the side characters very well.

Then there's this amazing and amusing Coach MC, with his witty and tactics it... more>> makes the game enjoyable to read. Characters were mature, I love that there's a lot of face slapping of netizens.

This had a reverse wealthy character, usually the rich is the ML and they always overbearing. But Coach Lin is goofy, straightforward, tactical genius in eSports. And I like that it didn't follow the common plot that since he read the novel all his knowledge were given.. it didn't actually focus on that. His skills and talent weren't Mary sue, he still works for it. And his tactics were base from his long experience from the real world and then coupled with his hard work. Even though it was said he was rich and a son of a conglomerate, the story didn't actually over emphasize his wealth. His Identity as a rich kid blends well with his Identity as a coach, and didn't seem really that much different from any other characters. So I like what the author did here... The characters were more human, too many subtle emotions, which is good. Because if this were any other stories they kinda exaggerated it so sometimes a story get dragging, boring or irritating 😔 <<less

Coach Lin is the GOAT. I love this character. Such shamelessness, confidence, and arrogance, yet, it is backed up by talent, hard work, and tirelessness.

MC and ML may be considered to be OP, but, I don’t think that’s the case. They work, and they work hard to achieve their goals.

Great cast of characters, a lot of face slapping, and a whole lot of fun. Enjoyed his novel fully

Spoiler

one thing I wasn’t clear on though: in which life did the accident to Lin’s captain happen? If it was in the novel, then why would he carry the psychological shadow with him? He didn’t actually live through it. I also would have loved to known kore of his life prior to the transmigration

So another League e-sports based novel. I don't play that much LoL but a lot of the plot mentioned in here is definitely fantasy. This is also an older novel (or feels older because it mentions 3-ban instead of the current 5-ban system which was implemented in 2017.)

I think that's fine; the novel isn't super focused on making realistic plays. The author has an understanding of the game for sure, but it's also definitely exaggerated a LOT for plot or effect.

So I wouldn't recommend this if you were interested... more>> in the technical parts of the game being portrayed well, it's more focused on the relationship development between the main characters as well as building up a team. Which I personally enjoyed.

Overall very fluffy, not much angst, just a lot of banter and happy fluff.

One thing is that the translation is not very on point for the gaming terms. I've been a fan of RainbowTurtle's translations for a long time, but in this case there were quite a few that missed the mark.

Such as the mentions of "side lane" and some other terms (like "output" or "shooter") would be better translated as top/bottom lane, DPS, ADC, ARAM, baron, river crab, the different dragon buffs (infernal) etc. But it's ok, RainbowTurtle is very speedy.

Spoiler

Half the time I was reading I was wracking my brain on matching champions to the code names or pseudonyms the author/translator used for them

I think I figured out a few of them? But no clue on the rest.

[collapse]

Also, pet peeve of mine, please use "antis/haters" when talking about "black" fans. Seriously doesn't make sense in English. What is a "black fan"?

  • A fan who is trying to blackmail their idol? No.
  • A fan who is doing illegal activities? No (at least, I'm pretty sure being toxic on the internet isn't illegal just yet).
  • A fan who is of African descent? No.
There is no reason for this translation and makes zero sense in English, "anti" or "hater" or "troll" actually makes sense. Thanks. <<less

The first e-sports novel I ever enjoyed and it was really effing fantastic. I loved the development of the relationship and the tension and all the secondary characters too. The games were written really well to the point that I got pretty excited in some certain parts. I'm so sad it's over but at the same time so friggin happy I came across this gem.

I like the characters a lot. They're all nice and comedic. However, the plot doesn't seems to be focus on E-sports but the romance between MC and ML who happened to be pro players.

Many times, the writer either just skipped the game or rushed it. Meanwhile, the romances were prolonged and frequent.

The intervals between each games were incredibly long while the actual game were described perfunctorily. I couldn't help but feel like being cheated since I expected more gameplay from this type of novel.

Anyway, when the MC and ML are... more>> together, their relationship is very cute and sweet. They are both supportive and protective towards each other, which indicate a very healthy relationship. <<less

A good novel. I originally thought there would be a lot of drama but the plot can be considered lighthearted with the face-slapping, the comedy and the romance.

My favourite part would be the character development of not just the main couple (who made me sweat with anxiety) but also the side characters ahem the children. Seeing them overcome their pasts and fight for their dreams is very moving.

I have to admit though that I'm not very familiar with MOBA games so some of the game elements of the story are... more>> lost on me.

Overall this has been a satisfying read for me. <<less

Really incredible. I can't stop myself from reading.

As a french reader, the translation seems really fine and it's not difficult to understand the video game's vocabulary.

The characters have all their own story and are well developped.

The romance is really great and not too slow or too fast.

The game's fights are breathtaking.

I want it to never end xD

(The game is similar to LOL and it made me play it even though I didn't like it years ago... I'm now an addict)

I really want to finish it but unfortunately, something is wrong with MTL !!!

I like this novel, it has humor (just like Glory or I can do it) but in a different way, and I like every one in GH team 😭, Babies. The sport part or gaming is easy to understand and fun to read. Also, I love the MC and ML, especially tther interactions. I like the other members as well omo all of them are good, they're really like a... more>> family.

Anyway I am not really good in giving reviews but this one, I highly recommend it. <<less

Oh man, I'm a sucker for esports stories, but the interactions of the MC and the ML so far are soo good. There seems to be an underlying complete understanding between the two and I'm so excited to see the future of these talented individuals. I'll update this review if my mind changes as I read it since it's still fairly early. I was just smiling so much as I read it I had to drop a review.

Just reading the beginnings of this book has me hooked; the MC is shameless, smart and very straightforward, however his way of words is very misleading. It’s so misleading that when he first meets ML, well... you read it and find out.

The translation alone is very good and I’m confident that the consistency of the translation will remain till the end as it’s being translated on Chrysanthemum Garden; a site containing many good novels that’s delivered to Fudanshi and Fujoshi’s reading pleasure.

I’m not quite sure of this novel plot wise... more>> seeing as I’ve only read about two chapters in, but from what I’ve gathered so far and from the synopsis, this seems like a novel revolving around a group of gamers (MC aside) you’d see in a ‘cliche’ e-sports novel, however, they’re on the /losing/ end. I’m interested to see how they’d flip the world upside down with this strange team,

I’ll update this as I get deeper into the novel. <<less

My favourite e-sports novel, and I've read A TON.

Rereading this masterpiece multiple times now means my taste is way too refined to settle for other e-sports novels. God knows if I'll ever find another one on this level.

The effort put into all of the teams and especially the side characters is noticable and worth it. I love them all, it's so hard to pick favourites!

... more>> If you're into e-sports, just read it.

If you're into mature leads who respect each other (and all other characters except those who don't deserve respect), who aren't perfect but will always work towards the best possible solution, who have real struggles and try their best to overcome them, just read it.

If you're reading this review and are thinking about reading it, just read it. <<less
