Six months ago, tens of thousands of black phantom towers appeared all over the world, floating above the cities. Chemists, physicists, religious people… all of them could do nothing.

Six months later, people became used to the towers and no longer paid them attention.

One day, Tang Mo saw a flying insect crash into it instead of going through it. The next day, a sharp and clear child-like voice issued an announcement to all humans.

“Ding dong! November 15th, 2017. The earth is online.”

The black tower’s three iron-clad rules:

1. Everything is explained by the black tower.

2. 6 o’clock to 18 o’clock is the game time.

3. All players, please strive to attack the tower.

It was a blast.

Although I have to admit that some games were to convoluted for my brain to comprehend, it was great.

Although the ending felt bitter sweet, I was satisfied. It was a journey.

Spoiler

ahhh~ at the end, South Asia or India... It's sad and grim but at the end what humanity can do at wits end...

They weren't even qualified to play the Queen's game... orz

I can't help to write a review in this novel... I am so amazed to the plot, the concepts, the ideas and everything. the novel focus more on survival thing and the adventure of MC and ML, how they play and solve those twisted puzzle games. the MC is so clever as well as the ML

i commend the translator to translate this novel..

The Bl scenes is fewer so those who holding back their selves coz of the bl tag, don't worry the novel mainly focus on the adventure and survival... more>> of the MC and ML

Over all this novel is awesome <<less

This is definitely one of my favorite novels on this site! Recommend 100%.

It's an apocalypse novel with a cast of likable, continuously-relevant side characters, unique setup, awesome worldbuilding; and the survival games (my favorite parts) are so cleverly thought out.

The only con is that the romance is a bit lackluster and took a backseat compared to the rest of the plot. The main couple do have some hot scenes but they're few and far between and glossed over. I didn't mind it since I wasn't reading it for the romance,... more>> and I guess it'll suit the people who don't really like bl.

The ending was rather open, but wrapped up the plot and relationships nicely. <<less

A superbly written apocalypse novel.

The plot is well thought out and the plot development as well as the world building I clever and detailed.

The bulk of this story lies in loads of mind puzzles, the schemes if other humans, and battles.

... more>> There are loads of characters that are unique and distinct, even among the cannon fodders and the minor characters. Even though the MC isn't particularly emotive, I think you as the reader may well come to appreciate many of the personalities in this novel.

Scattered throughout there is also a bit of romance and an odd brand of humour that is occasionally funny.

All in all, it is well rounded, and well written. The translation is also superb. This story is of exceptional quality among the others found on NU. <<less

My second most favorite novel ? Still FoD being number 1.

I do really like the twists and games idea, as well as the development of love between ML and MC.

Though at first, it kinda disappoint me bcoz the MC is a little apathetic still it's reasonable due to apocalypse.

It was... Amazing. This could be said to have the best plot in any bl novel, and believe me, I've read a lot. Tang Mo, the MC, is smart, cool, but not a snobbish guy. Fu Wen Duo, the ML, is well... Like an ML. But a really good ML, he respects the MC, loyal, and really powerful. This is one of those novels that would leave you no one to hate.

One thing... This is R-15 in romance, so don't get your hopes up:')

10/10 -I don't really like giving... more>> 10/10 but this one deserves it. Or I might change it later?

Ps. All the novels translated by rainbow turtle scanslations are amzing, thank you so much for the team!ヾ (*´∀`*) ノ? <<less

This novel is a gem. The storyline is complex with intricate characters and plot line. I wish there was more BL and the romance between the MC and ML is very slow. MC is not OP which is nice. ML also did not fall in love with MC at first sight which is very refreshing to read. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I've never read anything like this. It's AMAZING. Love the game. The plot. The action. The romance. PERFECT.

I want to read more stuff like this but at the same time, I don't want to read a copycat book. But maybe I do because I have a withdrawal syndrome.

This one goes directly to my favorite novels list. It is amazing.

    • Both MC and ML are really smart and sly, and they keep calm even when the situation is frightening and disadvantageous for them. They have this tacit understanding that allow them to reverse the situation in their favour. But not all the times obviously.
    • I believe all the puzzles and games in the novel actually improve your IQ hahaha the games are really interesting and you never grow tired of them.
    • The romance is really good. Since the beginning the MC and ML have a story and it's beautiful, they are their better half.]
    • There are characters you will love, there are characters you will hate, some that you will love and hate at the same time, some characters that are enemies but you pity them when you should totally hate them.

This story is so so good, it's addicting. I never thought I'd like a "survival game" plot but the author managed to get me hooked.

It's fast paced and every bit of the story is so clever, you always want to know what will happen next, what's the next game, the next clue etc. (You probably shouldn't start it during finals like I did lol).

It's honestly one of the best novels (/books) I've ever read. It's funny, smart, engaging and also heart breaking.

Also, the relationship between the MC and ML progress... more>> slowly but just with the right pace. I don't know how to explain this but it's extremely satisfactory. <<less

This is a really interesting story with many unique puzzle to be solved.

The BL : the romance is just here and there, those who doesn't like BL can easily ignore it, so read this!

And all the villains are really interesting.

Spoiler

Every tower game is really weird, the villains are fairy tale characters that has twisted personality. And the games they made are detailed and unique, making you also want to think of how to solve it.

With many props and powers they gain overtime, manytimes you could missed the obvious clue to clear the game.

Spoiler

Sadly, since this story is a death survival game, many characters will be killed.

TLDR: A really great story which stands out amongst others in the apocalyptic survival and puzzle mysteries genre. It is not so much centred on the two male leads relationship as it is about their means to survive this new world full of challenges from the tower as well as other humans. The engagement readers have through the events and games of the novel generates a sense of realism, where you feel as if you're in the world of the novel yourself, trying to survive against all odds. 5/5 would... more>> recommend.

In terms of plot, the whole world is thrown into, what is, a despairing situation which calls for the mass population to exercise their wits and smarts in order to survive the tower's game. I think the author's approach to this genre is pretty unique, with mini arcs within bigger arcs of the story. I can tell the author planned this story out ahead, because hints to future events are tied in seamlessly through the smallest of details in the early chapters.

In terms of the game/mysteries in the novel, by no means did they have 'easy solutions'. This really depends on the person, but I personally think the author does a great job of engaging with the readers by presenting the rules of the game like the characters have as it gives readers the challenge of figuring whether they have the ability to solve the game themselves and survive the tower. Sometimes the solution is right in front, but other times it right outside of the box. However, that being said, the events of the game and the solution itself can get windy and long and I sometimes just scrolled through and skimmed through the details, so this may not be every reader's cup of tea.

In terms of the main character, there wasn't so much development because in my opinion, the author has already fleshed out the MC's character –or rather, the tower and the overall apocalypse hasn't changed the MC much, but has only served to reveal/accentuate the person he already is.

In terms of other characters, the author did a great job because every character that's introduced serves a purpose in the overall narrative. The MC meets many people along the novel; some die and few survive, but the author never really lets you forget the ones which have impact on the progress of the MC as a person and the events of the novel.

In terms of the relationship, I don't think the fact that this is danmei should stop anyone from reading or forming their own bias. It is honestly such a great read, and like previously mentioned this is not so much about finding love in the apocalypse than it is surviving it. I love the slow and gradual development of their relationship –which I think reflects accurately regarding the situation they're in. However, I was really drawn to the deep understanding the two have of each other, even before meeting, like the two are really just fated to be together. <<less

This novel is really one of the gems out there. For those put off by the BL tag, this is not romance-centric. That is one of the things, I love about this novel. The romantic subplot does not overtake the overall plot. It is slow burn but, I find it really realistic. In a sort of apocalyptic world where they could die anytime, they prioritise surviving first.

The world building is definitely well done. The characterisation I'd say is great, considering other novels. The MC has a unique ability but is... more>> not a Gary Stu and not overpowered. Abilities have limitations which was wonderfully executed in the novel.

The logic of the games they play is definitely engaging and unconventional.

Judging the book in a apocalyptic/mystery/fantasy, it is really well executed. The ending was satisfying and leaves the reader feeling content and hopeful.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes to solve puzzles and clues. <<less

Very well written. Kudos to the author. Decently translated. Kudos to the translator (s) for saving my brain from mtl-ing this novel. This is an apocalyptic story that doesn't involve zombies but harsh games that tests the mettle of humankind. Each game is brilliantly done (or maybe I'm just not that clever ?) often with twist that one doesn't see coming. This novel is a censored BL (booo!) towards the end of the story but what I like is that it isn't a BL with thriller aspects, but a thriller... more>> that just happen to have protagonists that are gay. I also like the dual strength/weakness of Tang Mo. He has a somewhat

that makes Tang Mo a formidable fighter and player, but at the same time, supress his ability and Tang Mo is just a little-harder-to-kill librarian. Add in homicidal fairytale characters, an almost psychotic Tang Mo stalker, and magical props, and this ends up being a story unlike any others. I really recommend this novel. <<less

Upset that once I've caught up it's almost over because this is truly too good to let go. Relationship between MC and ML is very genuine and shown, not told, through their actions and implicit trust and understanding. Still takes a backseat to overall plot and mystery, which I appreciate.

Unfortunately am unsure of how well this will read through the second time after I know all of the games and mystery's answers. I feel like a lot of the driving force of this novel is the suspense and thrill of... more>> chasing the unknown, chapter by chapter. Still a great read <<less

Anyway, I recommend this to anyone who loves survival and mystery novels. The games the black tower forces the players to play are mind blowing. There are so many instances where I just ended up bowing down at the sheer ingenious of the solutions the MC finds. The romance is subtle and 3/4 of the time whilst reading this, I keep forgetting that this is a BL novel and not shounen/stallion. Because usually in Yaoi novels, the MC would be surrounded by pretty boy teammates and female antagonists. But in this amazing novel, it gives us readers variety - Different characters of both genders; so complicated and strong in personalities you just become obsessed with them. Sure, some of them are frustrating, but I ended up falling in love with one off the most annoying fly in the series (shocker).

Spoiler

Why did he have to die? T_T... Baby-faced Bai~!!!!

[collapse]

Funny enough, all the dangerous NPCs are pretty loveable and adorable (to me, at least. The players are all scared of them hahahahaha). The MC even gets along (in the loosest term) with a few of them via bulliying them shamelessly (in my opinion anyway). Hahahahaha!

Spoiler

I love the interactions between MC and Mosiac. They're hilarious! AND the many times MC makes the NPCs speechelsss because he's so shameless is so funny!

Just... give this novel a try. Awesome characters. Brilliant storyline. Thrilling and not boring at all. What more could you ask for? This novel is a f*cking gem! <<less
