I ended up transmigrating as a third-rate extra in a game I like, but worst of all this character has already fallen and been disowned.

I have no ambitions. I just want to graduate, but the world won’t let me.

Just finished reading the entire novel including the side stories.

To keep it short the novels amazing (don't bother with the Manhwa). One of the best novels I have ever read.

And for people complaining about the translation quality, there's a high quality translation/official translation that's available online as a EPUB/PDF for the entire series.

Its easy to fine, not sure why people are reading the MTL version.

THE NOVEL IS COMPLETE. NO ONE WILL TRANSLATE IT DUE TO COPYRIGHT. APP IS CALLED YONDER. On ios

I've been reading isekai webnovel for over 10 years, this novel falls within the top 1%.

keep in mind, each arc is based off of a video game where it can leads to an apocalyptic scenario if failed.

There is a balance of school life, events, drama, romance, triangle relationship, personal and side character growth, sacrifice, and most of all one of the best FIGHTs with win conditions. AND more. There are many cliff hangers per arc.

Ignore the negative reviews, they are mostly written by children or teenagers.

1st this is isekai into a video game world with multiple route endings. Not a linear plot from a novel.

2nd the mystery builds over time be patient

3rd harem is unconventional and it's original not completely cliche, he legitimately wins their hearts and breaks them.

4th MC works hard to become strong in his own way.

5th this is an aristocratic world, expect fancy long names, dialogue, speech hand etiquette.

6th he tries his best not to change the story, but author is original in attempting to avoid cliche MC META foresight and gives each canon event a twist.

7th if you can't read long books then this isn't for you

go support official release iOS Yonder.

Although the MC within the MC story dosent get as much screen time, his growth is ironically cliche and terrifying. The fight scene is one of the best fights ever. Imagine two people going through a gauntlet of trials, then putting them against each other after they exhausted everything
Spoiler

each event gets more difficult as he changes the story, he keeps tabs on the original MC to make sure he gets stronger. Ed's body and talents have limitations, the theme of this novel is the underdogs

I thought that this was a pretty enjoyable read. The MC possesses the body of a third-rate villain and has below-average stats. The author does a good job of making the MC's progress realistic. The MC isn't crazy overpowered and has to put some serious effort in to grow stronger.

I really dig the wilderness aspect of the novel. The MC basically lives in a cabin and has to figure out how to do everything himself. He's like a boy-scout in the making.

Compared to other novels, the MC isn't crazy powerful... more>> (i.e. He doesn't have some overpowered skill or obtain a heavenly god-slaying sword). He's more of a thinker, preferring to solve everything with proper planning rather than battle-prowess.

As the novel progresses, it focuses more on the harem-members and their relationship to the MC. The harem-members struck me as pretty annoying. It's always about them visiting the MC but nothing is initiated. There's also a lot of repetitive monologue, but the overall quality of the story makes up for that. This is better than most novels. If you're bored, definitely try it out. <<less

Overall The novel itself pretty solid. I got pretty decent experience reading it.

The Novel is not for you if :

  1. You Hate Harem trope.
  2. You don't want to read another same "fall into isekai as villain trope".
Otherwise you might love the novel. Overall it pretty solid novel but not perfect.

... more>> Deep analysis :

Main Theme (focus point of the story) : Story about a guy isekai'd into game becoming third rated villain while making sure he survive and follow the main story line of the said game.

Character :

The character in the story introduced through third person point of view or what I often called all knowing POV. Basically the each character described as detailed as possible following the progression of the plot. Making sure there is no character act out of determined template.

Character development : There is character development, however it lacking. As a reader, every character feels more like a template character. The only attitude change is when the heroine starting to fall for the MC or its obvious enough that reader don't really see it as a character development but as a 100% definite outcome.

World Building : Its pretty solid. Its pretty difficult to nitpick the way how the world actually operate, since it actually the strongest aspect of this novel. The way how the author actually building the world is by narrating it to the reader directly. This is a double edge sword since it left little room for error, but it also could possibly make the the novel full of naration and stale or straight up boring. Unfortunately, personally it fall more to the latter.

Plot development and pacing : Plot progression is linear progression. Any detail will be explain during that ongoing plot. Making the the plot possibly look slow depending how much story detail that the Author want to fill and depending how much is too long for the reader. Pacing wise its actually decent 90 chapter and 2 climax action reach. Objectively it actually pretty decent, however it feels slow because the author fill it in with so many detail and some even felt repetitive.

POV : Author actually doing great in term of using multiple POV while using all knowing naration. Basically the story progress by using multiple character as story teller. This is the strong suit of this novel you will see it when you read it. Personally this is what make this a solid novel.

Overall : This Novel actually decent, however it did not get a pass in a concept of "To show and not to tell". This Novel could be 30% better maybe if the author try use character action more to define a character rather than to tell the reader how this character act and what type of personality it have. It also could be better if the the author actually cut some detail and leave it to the reader imagination. The reader is not s*upid enough that you need to tell every single reason in every action. This will make a better novel with better dynamic interaction between character as oppose to current story where author interject to fill in the detail in between dialogue. <<less

This novel is incredible. It takes a normally generic Korean Isekai story but it uses it to it's full advantages. However this story isn't for everyone. As much as the battle scenes are incredibly descriptive and intense as of c. 103 there hasn't been that many. The true part of the story lies within the protagonist (Ed) and his relationship with the three main harem members and the rest of the cast. Each arc has a different girl taking spotlight as a secondary protagonist or even antagonist to Ed. Since... more>> they're the highlight I'll give a brief overview over each. (Btw you'll catch me on Yonder leaving comments as the username Lun Ah)

Ed: The protagonist. The best way to put him is a blend between a shounen protagonist and a KR protagonist. Like shounen protagonists he's a kind soul even if he doesn't admit it saying "it's for my survival" and like a KR protagonist he isn't a hothead idiot like shounen protagonists but a cold, smart, pragmatic one. He also isn't op but gets stronger over time like Kim Hajin in the Novel's Extra. He also strangely shares similarities to Kim Dokja from ORV. Especially the fact that both have crippling low self esteem. Also he's as a dense as a black hole but we all knew that.

Yennekar: (nickname Spirit Yandere) : She is the first girl to have a dedicated arc. Yennekar is a kind, sweet, airhead, and is considered an idol and cannot lie for the life of her. She also loves making friends no matter who they are. Also like her nickname she has certain... yandere tendencies every know and then. It doesn't help she's a one man army either. Like the main 3 harem members she is hiding a sadness that I won't spoil (even though it was pretty early)

Lortel: (nickname: Stonks Woman) The second harem member to get a dedicated arc. She is the one who is most naturally like Ed. She like Ed is not strong (at least compared to the other 2 harem members) but makes up for it by being the most intelligent of the three and is a shrewd businesswoman. She is also the most "evil" of the three and acts for herself unlike Yennekar who acts for the benefit of others. She is also the one most likely to fight dirty even more so than the pragmatic "I'll do anything to live" Ed.

Lucy: (nickname: OP Lazy Loli) She's one of my favorite characters. As of c103 she has gotten the most development as she has basically had 3 dedicated arcs to her basically back to back to back. She is also a kuudere where her emotions are suppressed from past traumas. She is also so far the strongest character in the series. If Yennekar is a one man army shes the bomb that dropped on Hiroshima. Before her first arc she was kinda a side character (before c50ish) but as of c103 she is definitely the girl (or Yennekar sorry Lortel) who has gotten the most spotlight. She is also the one to fall in love with Ed last and it hits even harder when she does. Like above she is a kuudere however being around Ed has made her more expressive and happy. Her personality is basically a stray cat and that's what the story says as well. Actually if we were going for this animal comparison, Lortel is a fox, Yennekar is a loyal dog, and Lucy is a cat.

Other characters (very brief)

Ziggs: I like to call him the 4th harem member. Out of the 4 above he has definitely gotten the most screentime and he deserves it. Bromance is strong with this one.

Tylee (and Ayla) : These 2 are the original protagonists. The best way to put it is that these two are heroes of another story they do their own separate thing from Ed unlike The Novel's Extra.

Tanya: Ed's little sister and the funniest character in the series.

Clevius: Aside from Ed, Yennekar, and Lucy he has definitely gotten the most character development and it's amazing watching him grow. Should the author make a whole story around him I'd definitely read.

Anyway I really recommend this novel to people who love harems and isekais with actual fleshed out characters. <<less

Great novel from beginning to the end, keeps the pace well and doesn't bore.

It was quite good that the author did not leave the details he gave throughout the series idle and connected them to the appropriate parts.

MC and Side cast got their promised character development and it's was not bad personally.

Pretty sure it would be good choice for new readers that just started.

About waifus... And romantics..

If this was properly translated it would be a 3 or a 4, but its not. The first 10 chapters are pretty good quality, then you notice things like pronouns getting mixed up, large portions of chapters go missing, and finally at chapter 31 all readability is gone. Halfway through chapter 31 you are presented with this. [End of Translation]. I have the slightest inkling of the idea that they are copying and pasting without the slightest glance over. Judging by the drop in quality I think they just ripped... more>> off hades houses hard work and then proceeded to post complete sh*t without any effort afterwords. The novel itself gets a 5/5 from me. There is a harem and polygamy aspect to it, but it is fairly well done. The heroines are setup fairly well. Ed, Yenika, Lortel, Lucy, Ziggs, , Taeylor etc are all likeable characters.

My favorite heroine would probably be the spirit mage/elementalist Yenika. She is so bashful and innocent that her spirits and friends all help her out with approaching Ed romantically. Her spirits stalk the forest where Ed resides and gives a daily report to Yenika about him and the forest. The... more>> spirits are like grandfathers watching their granddaughter Yenika be in love.

Seeing Ed go from his wooden shelter to building an actual wood cabin with heat insulation and other functions makes you want to cheer for this guy. In the beginning of the story he was in survival mode after being kicked out of the dorms and banished by his villain family, so he really did not have time to think about anything else like romance yet. Winter was coming and he needed to build his cabin fast. Ed before being transported into Ed Rothtaylor's body was a former solder and potentially a captain level at least.

I would argue this is like a Korean version of Mushoku Tensei in some aspects. Ed grows his interpersonal relationships in the world and slowly gains strength. I recommend reading the web comic first to get a good sense of the novel then continue on from there.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The main issue for me is the translation of Yong Library. The issues are too numerous that my score on the translation alone is 2.5/5.

  • he/she pronouns are all over the place (Taeylor is referred to as she/her, Lortel as he/him)
  • terminology changes from one chapter to the next (demon engineering then to magic engineering, woodworking crafting lv to handcrafting to dexterity crafting, changing vitality to stamina then to strength are some examples)
  • it is most likely MTL and edited later
  • large parts of chapters are sometimes cut off at odd times
  • the quality is inconsistent and unedited
The funniest part is that the TL has a patreon page and asking money for this level of translations? I would have at least expected a good editor and TL checker to make sure the translation do not get cut off. <<less

Not that amazing as I expected. I liked 'Demon prince attends the academy' and I heard that this WN is similar to that so I decided to try it.

The only thing that is similar to Demon prince is the start where they both reincarnate as weak side characters that are non-existant in the original story.

This story is more similar to Novel's extra in my opinion. You'll see girls who have misunderstandings about MC and fall for him or think he's secretly OP. MC is also super dense about the girls... more>> feelings which is such an overused trope at this point.

Rather than seeing the MC and side characters grow like in Demon Prince, it becomes more of a story centered around MC's actions and the side characters reactions to them. I don't feel much character growth from the side characters yet. This might be because I've only read 38 chapters so far though, so we might see actual character growth later. So far though, character growth is disappointing.

MC also has it easy similar to Novel's extra because he knows the events and their tricks and how to proceed. Very different from Demon prince where MC struggles from the get-go. It's annoying seeing another story where MC is always a step ahead and is always in control of every situation.

Lastly, I feel like there's a lot of useless dialogue. It sometimes takes a full page for the author to discuss the character's feelings which they have mentioned countless times before already. This would all happen in the middle of a talk between characters or an important event. Rather than making the event more interesting, it feels like the author is purposely c*ck blocking you from reaching the climax (of the story). The amount of useless dialogue that could've been cut out is staggering.

Overall though, I still like the plot. I like how the story focuses on the MC's survival in a wild forest. I like how he builds things in order to survive and they constantly fail or need to be improved, adds more realism in my opinion. I just dislike the uselessly long dialogue that can be cut out and the lack of character growth of side characters. <<less

That was at the start of chapter 82. It seems the "translator" is just uploading the chapters to chatGPT and posting what comes out. A lot of the cons are probably direct results of that.

pros:

    • The camping lifestyle improvement is always going on in the background.
    • The story avoids the helpless game MC trope. Taely is pretty self-sufficient. He steadily clears the game's events even without Ed doing anything.
    • The story expands on the game's characterizations. As a transmigrator, Ed knows a lot about the characters, but we get a lot behind-the-scenes tidbits that Taely never encountered and thus never appeared in the game.
    • Ed knows his strength is his knowledge of the game's timeline, but is not afraid to change it. He eliminates variables to preserve the plotline but does not push people away or flee from any beneficial changes.
cons:

    • The translation reads well, but the translator is really careless with names and pronouns.
        • They often use the wrong gender pronouns. E.g. There was one particularly frustrating chapter where literally every man was a she and every woman a he.
        • The names are more consistent, but also sometimes get mixed up. You have to recognize from context who the author actually wrote about.
    • Perhaps this will change when Ed grows stronger, but the game MC has been settling most of the game's fights offscreen. So there isn't much focus on action at the moment.
    • The transition between chapters can be really choppy and confusing. It's usually fine, but there have been a few where I had to reread after understanding what is happening.

The listed translations are abysmal. The score reflects what is available, so 1 star. See bottom part for commentary on the actual series. For the listed version, a basic editing pass by someone competent in English with an accurate character list would fix most of the problems, but we all know that's not going to happen.

There is a completed TL that was removed, I hunted around for it but couldn't find a link. Some kind soul had to send me the epubs for me to read it. The only other... more>> accessible alternative is a totally not payment site (yonder, iirc?). There are actually a couple versions of this series floating around, including the one here, but they are the worst type of unedited no-effort MTL.

You can find machine error lines still in the text. Most chapters get the gender he/she/etc wrong for at least one character at at time, including the main character, consistent across that entire chapter. Their names are also wrong or changed pretty much on a per-chapter basis. These make it infuriating trying to figure out who a character is actually supposed to be, especially if it's around the time of their introduction. This isn't even going into word choice, subjects and general sentence cohesion. You shouldn't have to do mental gymnastics to correct something almost every sentence so it makes sense.

------------------------------------

Edit: After having finished the epub I was sent, I can say the series is a decent read. About 3.5? It's a better than average academy possession trope, but still hits a lot of generic tropes and checklists. The whole he's changed! (after a 180° personality flip) thing in particular irritates me a lot, though that's a personal gripe, but I will say a it had good development about the OG character's motivations that made up for some of my feelings on that. This series is pretty much supported by its character interactions imo, it has a pretty good main cast and there's always personalities bouncing off each other. It also has a couple nice running subplots happening alongside the main story, his little sister's journey was a fun ride.

If I had any real criticisms about this, it's that the author likes to tease things but doesn't like to follow through. Some examples, slight spoilers:

Spoiler

MC is having some pretty major issues processing guilt, responsibility and death, to the point of hallucinating a dead character interacting with him... until he suddenly isn't, the author just kinda forgot about it. There was no development about it, no real epiphany or revelation moment, the hallucinations didn't come to a head or anything, it just stopped after a few times with no reference to it again. I thought that was an interesting angle to play out, develop MC's struggles with mental/emotional stress, have him work things out with his role in the world, add a bit of drama if anyone finds out, etc.

There's a few parts hinting to a possible greater (eldritch?) entity out there that might have something to do with celestial magic, how the world is structured, fate... nvm, just going to skim over that I guess.

Deep, romantic moments with a bit of passion and tension bringing relationships to a different level? Nope, back to default until the next scene. Even at the end, post-timeskip, there has been almost zero progress between heroines after like 2 years. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't hoping for it to jump into s*x scenes or anything (seriously, that usually kills all romantic tension and pacing), but some relationship progress that doesn't reset back to embarrassment and awkward eye contact would have been nice.

Overall, it seems the author pushed things off to the side stories rather than being part of the main plot.

[collapse]

The TL for the properly done version was worlds better, but still had its subject/gender issues dotted around regularly enough. There's a drop in quality after epub vol4 (c166+), alongside a sudden name change that didn't really work as well. At this same spot you'll also start to see strange formatting and spelling problems that looks like the result of bad text recognition when whoever converted it from pdf to epub. Not the TL fault, but important to note down when talking about quality. <<less

It was okay. The main character is as interesting as a brick but I liked everyone else. Much of the plot was very contrvied though and it's incredibly obvious that the story is being made up as it goes. No real forward planning as is usual with LN and WN writers.

As far as transmigration harem novels go, this is pretty much my favorite. There's really no discernible major flaws

Honestly, reading the novel's 3-4 star reviews pissed me off. All of them were whining about the harem, about how the novel focused mostly on romance. For God's sake why the f*ck are you reading a novel with a harem genre if you don't enjoy harem. This is the equivalent of not liking Re Zero because you don't like Isekai, stop whining and read something else.

Anyways one of the few reasons I... more>> prefer this novel over most others in the same genre is due to the slight survival element. The MC is also rather weak, as in side character-tier unless he's willing to make some sacrifices.

The romance is also done extremely well for a harem novel. A 'side' heroine in this novel could pass for a main heroine in most other novels of the same genre.

The translation is some of the best I've ever seen. It contains it's fair share of mistakes and is by no means perfect but 10 chapters per approximately 3 days is just absolutely insane.

Edit: So apparently this novel has been licensed by some company called YONDER and therefore any attempts at translating this will be copyrighted. I understand wanting to make money but that has its limits so in light of the fact that YONDER makes people pay for every chapter aside from the first 5 and that the translation isn't even as good as the one from the independent translator, this is getting demoted to a 1 star <<less

A very good novel. Very similar to "I killed the player of the academy" but where the MC here is a bit naive and messes up more than Korin. I suppose this is because unlike Korin who regressed, Ed is someone who's just been transmigrated therefore it will take him a while to really realise the world he's in is not just a game, and they are real people. Korin made the same mistake as Ed in his first run, thus their similarities.

Characters are very fleshed out, and there's character... more>> development for the MC and the supporting characters. Especially the MC, slowly realising that the plot will not stay the same because he's involved in it. Might frustrate you in the early chapters for his naivete and mistakes though. But overall, a good novel. Definitely recommended. <<less

No idea why this is so highly rated.

Just another story of someone going to a game/book world, just another MC that want to stick to the main plot but fail, just another MC that get what the book/game MC should have had, just another MC that get reincarnated into a 3rd rate villain. It's not bad but if you already read books that uses the same tropes, don't expect originality here, it doesn't exist.

This novel is pretty entertaining.

The MC is someone who likes to keep the story line as close to the original as possible, because he knows that's his only advantage. Yet he will also step in if the plot got out of line in order to fix things. He is written pretty decently.

The side characters are also pretty solid. They all have things they are good at and things they are not. They each have their own backstories and troubles. They aren't annoying for no reason, and they do things with... more>> a reason.

The world building is also pretty decent. The systems are described simply and the world are also described simply. Most of the world building will be focused on the academy.

The fight scenes are also really cool. It's fun to see how the MC uses all his strategies and future knowledge to his advantage despite him being weaker than his opponents.

There are several questions or potential plot holes tho. Like:

Spoiler

The mercenaries hired by Elte in the Occupation arc. Aren't they beaten by Ziggs and Yennekar? They should also be mentioned in the report yet they are not. I'm a little curious about why.

Other than that, this is a pretty solid novel. One of the most unique things of this novel is its slight focus on production stuffs like building houses and tools. It is also really interesting to see the way this novel uses the butterfly effect. All in all, this is a pretty solid novel. It's not super world-breakingly amazing, but it's a good novel to read. <<less

Better than most I've read in the same genre. MC is a solid guy who makes you want to root for him. If you're interested in reading it, go ahead and ignore the low reviews. If you actually look at them, they're either people who can only stick to a few chapters or those that couldn't find quality translations. It's actually wild that there are people who complain about "no character development" when they haven't even read 1/5 of the story.

Sadly, there is no way to rate the novel and the translation separatly.

The novel itself is interesting enough, however while the translation starts at a good quality it quickly turns to utter dogshit. The genders of characters keep switching, people randomly start talking about themselves in third person (because it's not actually them talking) and the sentences make less and less sense.

There is an official translation on yonder, but they have a rather scummy "free" payment model.

It's a shame really, I quite like the story so far.

Because of this particular part of his past life, he is extremely infatuated with surviving until the last boss at the end of the scenario is defeated. This is the entire narrative of the main story.

I will keep it short for the first theme that plays a big role to the story: politics. He had to assist with different allies to fight with different enemies to survive. The action scenes aren't that long, so it's mostly a battle of wits throughout the story to ensure that the scenario doesn't become a lost cause and the world ends up destroyed. I had a good time reading how he would survive and overcome every new obstacle with higher stakes.

Romance is the second theme that plays a big role in the story, and on the contrary, wasn't fun to read. This is because I started reading with high expectations of romance first with other themes secondary. To start off, he attracts not only allies, but also girls to his side. There are a lot of romantic development for each of the girls of the harem. However, for readers who are reading this hoping for meaningful romantic progress of the harem will be let down. There is romantic development, but there is no romantic progress, simply because the protagonist wants nothing else but to "survive" before anything else. And I will be honest, this irritated me to no end throughout the main story. He uses the excuse of being dense when the girls make romantic advances to him, nonsensically putting them off until the main story ended while aware that many of the characters' personalities have deviated from the original scenario. It wouldn't have been a problem if he hasn't realized the deviation, but it was written that the protagonist is aware of the deviation and still tries to force actions on characters to follow an already beyond-saving scenario.

Particularly for those who are reading this because they have seen the polygamy tag:

Spoiler

There has been individual romantic development for respective girls, but there has been no progress whatsoever for the relationships with them that could warrant the polygamy tag from beginning to end of the main story. So don't expect any meaningful romantic progress of the harem in the main story. As of the latest chapter I've read after the main story, he has finally slept together with two girls so far: Janica Faylover and Lortelle. And the current arc is focusing on Lucy.

So I will at least say that you will be disappointed if you were looking for any significant progress not with individual girls, but the relationship with the harem as a whole during the main story. You will have to grind through and reach the extra chapters before you can see any semblance of romantic progress. Even after starting on the extra chapters thus far, it's hard to say that he is in a official relationship with any of the girls because he has yet to make an official declaration. It only goes as far as a mutual confession between themselves in a bedroom. Hence, it's still far from what I would call an open romantic relationship with multiple lovers.

I will wait and see how far the extra chapters will go. <<less
