What happens when one eats Death?

Personally, I don’t really know. What I do know is merely one thing.

I’m hungry.

Therefore, I’ll take the heads of these guys and deliver them to my superiors.

Surely, I’ll be able to eat delicious food.

Come, if preparations are in order, we depart.

What I love about this novel:

1. It is beautifully written! The title is literally what the story is about, a girl who ate a grim reaper-like existence and is now immortal. The flow of the plot from battles to character development to inner thoughts is perfectly paced.

2. The complex characters have serious yet soft moments. Because the MC has a bit of a twisted character due to her childhood experiences, that doesn't stop her from cherishing her subordinates/friends. The relationship/loyalty between the MC and subordinates that develop over the course... more>> of survival/battles is poignant yet tragic. The feels are real.

3. Because of how complex yet simple the MC is, it is easy to sympathize and understand the MC's train of thoughts. Since the story revolves a life-or-death atmosphere, the atmosphere goes from light to tense back and forth.

The only issue I had with the novel is the ending. I found it a bit too open ended, so it felt unsatisfying. Overall, instead of going through a roller coaster, the story was more of a drop tower coaster type of feel. The build up moment was exciting and the drop down moment was just as exciting, but after everything is over, you're kind of left with a bittersweet feeling. I low-key want more chapters or a sequel! <<less

Heavy and gloomy short story, which is not suitable for every mood. If you have the right attitude, then you will like this novel.

This short story reminded me of this manga The Vagrant Soldier Ares. A similar style.

In the novel there is no tragedy, and this gives an incentive to read the novel to the end. After all, not everyone likes to see the death of the protagonist at the end of the novel.

The main character does not have any great aspirations. She does not want to create an ideal... more>> world or something. She just wants to eat with friends and kill rebels. On this she has every right.

There are some points on which there are ninjas. But the author did not overdo it.

My rate is 5\5 <<less

I had a lot of fun reading this. The story is a combination of politics, humor and war and it i'd say it worked pretty well overall. The beginning is not the strongest, but it definitely develops quite nicely. Recommended read!

Amazing. I read this through in one go and it's was great to read. Ups and downs that got you by the gut and kept you wanting more. Other reviews can summarize its contents, but I was hooked. The first five chapters are hard to follow and then you see the characters and their actions in the chapters afterwards and are just blown away. Both by its simplicity but its hidden depths. It's a story that actually makes sense from beginning till the end. That's the best I can describe... more>> it. Just amazing. <<less

This novel is well written and well translated. The protagonist is a strong warrior on the wrong side of a war, a very fresh perspective.

The side characters have complex motivations and though the protagonist herself is relatively simple, the world around her is complex which makes for a really good story.

The down side is that the last chapters (the rest of 34, and epilogue chapter) are missing. They were translated and then deleted and as far as I know no one has discovered a copy of them.

This is an amazing piece of writing. The story progression flows perfectly and the author makes you invested into the characters, even the side characters are people that you care about. It is an amazing novel through and through with a heart wrenching ending.

The character is unique with cute but badass personality. The story is good with lots of action and stratagems, also it's a tragedy so prepare tissues if you are soft hearted. The only downside is - it's too short. I mean a lot of s*upid xianxia has over 1000 chapters with repetitive plot, this one needs at least 100-200 chapters (considering somewhat rushed ending and short summaries afterwards).

well I only read the first chapter but it was good. The MC is a good girl but unlike other novel I dont think this one become one of those soupy novel where every single boy in the world would fall for the girl.

Short and sweet. A classic story about a little girl with a very big scythe. It's fun to follow how Schera's appetite drives her throughout the story, and the chaos she leaves in her wake. Great ending.

I came into this short Web Novel not expecting much, but glad I took my time to experience the life & tribulations of Death God Schera. Spawned from the consequences of a mismanaged Kingdom, now erupted into civil war. However the story makes it difficult to care about either the complacent, degenerate & foolish kingdom; or the noble, yet naive & short-sighted rebels.

All one can latch onto is the voracious Death God and be awed at the uncanny effect she has on her subordinates. Although they are not at all... more>> fleshed out, there are a few interesting side characters besides Schera; but there are only a few scraps of world building which are given out piecemeal, throughout the short story. Unfortunately its short length leaves a lot of unanswered questions, which maybe the Light Novel answers. <<less

Wow, what a wild ride that was.

Well worth a binge read if j do say so myself.

Spoiler

There is just, something about the MC, Schera that is just so... brutally endearing?

[collapse]

Spoiler

On one hand, you just know she's not in "right", but does it really even matter?

Spoiler

No one in this story is in the right. Largely speaking everyone is there own brand of awful. Some are more respectable then others, but everyone involved is mired in the mud of their awful world. Tainted by it.

[collapse]

Spoiler

Schera just wanted a good meal, and to make those who hurt her pay. Regardless of the price she has to pay.

Spoiler

But what made her so incredibly endearing is how much she clearly respects the people she cares about. Their deaths she silently honors.

I wont say this is the best novel ive ever read or anything, but damn, it was certainly a wold ride. And I really like many of its characters at least.

I'll have to check out the authors other works for sure now. <<less

Very similar to Goblin Slayer where the protagonist is very callous towards his enemies, has rather simple goals, and extremely keen in accomplishing them... single-mindedly so.

This is a top tier novel.. not much can get better than this.... This novel was written so well it kinda hurts because the MC is part of the losing side and well you can definitely see why they lost... This rating should be 4 stars because the side stories suck and are kinda confusing. We don't even know exactly happened to the kingdom but the main story is top notch.

I totally love this novel, I'm not sure if I like The girl who bore the flame ring or this one more. But both are my favorites novels.

There's not much I can say that haven't been said by the other readers, so the only thing I can tell you is to give this a try.

This is really good. It's a short read, and there is very little downtime, so pick it up anytime, in fact just pick it up right now! There's no real plot to the story, it's just the adventures of a young soldier during a time of war. In most war stories, they go into detail about the "horrors of war", and the tense moments of battle. In this story, the MC is the "horror of war", and instead of the battles being tense, they are exciting. Its like the medieval... more>> version of Youjo Senki (another great novel, I recommend either reading it or watching the anime adaptation), the MC isn't evil for the sake of being evil, they simply have one goal in mind, and the actions they take can be depicted as evil.

All in all a good read, I recommend it to people who like adventure, gore, and evil protagonists. <<less

Absolutely loved this novel. The nitty-gritty war writing was amazing to read and had me absolutely hooked. Haven't found another novel quite like it.

Loved the MC with her badass personality that didn't take crap from no one (unless it was a superior officer that could cut her food rations). None of the battles or plot progression felt too out of place, although there were some 'abnormalities', those can be blamed on the death god. The conclusion almost worried me but wrapped up quite nicely, especially with the side stories. Left... more>> me wanting more in the end but it stopped at a good point. <<less

a really good war story with a blood thirsty commander whose always hungry.

The writing is good and without spoiling too much the author has a huge plot twist in an early chapter by referencing the events in the past tense as if they'd already with the winners predetermined but has a huge twist in the finale to completely overturn it.

Possibly one of my favorite novels I have read yet. Everything in the story was smooth and everything was well written. Tragic at the best.
