The Girls Who Traumatized Me Keep Glancing at Me, but Alas, It’s Too Late (WN)

Description

I’m Yukito Kokonoe, and I’m the one who had the worst luck with women. My mother abandoned me, my sister hated me, and my childhood friend, who I thought she had feelings for me, rejected me before I could tell her, and then lied to me when I was heartbroken. As a result, I found myself completely emotionally broken, and it was too late to do anything about it. But that was strange. For some reason, I feel like the women who traumatized me are glancing at me. Yeah, I must be imagining it!

This is a love comedy about a boy who has been hurt too much and too late, and the women who have hurt him, in a misunderstanding that starts too late and never starts at all. “Love? What’s that, can I eat it?”

This is what having dementia probably feels like. You lose your grasp on reality and everyone around you is getting insane. In a way it reminds me of Saya no Uta, but just more whiny and pathetic. The MC is a mentally demented unintentional super-seducer. And everyone he interacts with is just as bad.

It's really hard to read.

So the thing about this story is, if you only read the first few chapters, you only see an edgy teen who doesn't like people that much, and acts in a rather toxic or apathetic manner towards those of the opposite gender most of the time, there are a few people who he wouldn't do that too but they are few and far between.

Now the spoiler

The heart wrenching thing for this story is, once you see his flashbacks and trauma memories, you suddenly realize the poor boy is just constantly getting hurt, whether it's trying to help people, or losing trust in those who he loved and trusted. His sister nearly kills him, his childhood friend who he had feelings for tried to make him jealous and ended up hurting him more, a girl who confessed to him yet screwed that up by saying she's only worried for him and is annoyed by him, and being called a mol*ster without even getting a defense and was nearly sent to prison and/or expelled from the school.

I really like this series cause the events feel real in a sense. As hurtful as what happens to the protagonist is, you can sort of relate to one of his problems, but the difference being he has no one to trust anymore. He bottles it up, tries to hide it, ignore it, even trying to forget it through different actions. And all you can do is pity the boy... This series becomes a lot more serious around chapter 10ish and you understand why he acts the way he does now. And all you can do is hope for that boy to get some remorse, some sort of clarity or help. <<less

after reading till ch36 I can say the way author has portrayed the MC is pretty interesting. This MC is broken to the core, he is mentally ill after an incident with his sister. She is not evil or anything, she was just a kid who was highly stressed because of how there mother always went to work and let her daughter always take care of her brother which was just taxing slowly but surely on her and in a moment where she hit her peak and just pushed her... more>> brother and his head was bleeding which partially resulted in his mental issues which is being shown though out the novel. Author way of showing from different POV really helps in convey the story from dif perspective.

MC is as I said previously is mentally ill and has lost a lot of his key emotions which a human has (imo it doesnt really make him an alien as how author is trying to show but he feels very normal for what he has gone through, like no kidding if even half the bad sh*t which happens to MC happen to someone else they be long gone through su*cide) MC has really HIGH mental strength which helps him though out the novel till he lost it. He is borderline sociopath and he makes a wall which impenetrable, he does not want to nor he can trust anyone for a while (its harem so ofc u can figure out why I said "while"). A lot of bad sh*t which happens to him is only due to women, his luck is really so bad with 99% of the women he interacts with. The vibe he gives out makes him an easy target for all the bad sh*t u can accuse him off, no one will try to even think rationally if he actually did it or not (later it changes but his luck is still really bad). MC has the omnipotent poker face which also acts like a shield for him so ppl dont come close to him as he see himself unneeded and everyone hates him. (Its untrue as like most ppl who have talked to him actually do care about him but its just misunderstanding that happens with him along with his luck everything just goes to sh*t and both MC and the girls really do suffer or atleast thats what author wants readers to think). His monologs are really the key part as to see how MC sees the world around him and how he sees himself in this world. Keep this is mind that he always has his poker face even if he replies as waah or whatever reaction he does, its always monotonous. MC later does figure out as to why his mental strength is so high and figure out it was his aunt who helped him with that as she is a psychiatric who hypnotize MC to not give up his life no matter how much bad sh*t happens but that also results in him loosing his empathy. He asked his aunt to remove that so he can even if its a little he could get some of his emotion back which he cant even remember he had. This is the part where I really had problem with the way author handled it, MC just had such a personality shift that it actually didnt suite the tone of the novel and slowly lost my interest. Btw before this his sister also kissed him to show that she really does love him a lot and is pretty much shown that she loves him a lot more then as a brother and for a good reason she doesnt want anyone to get in contact with her brother as he was always hurt by others. (If u are thinking its double standards for her as she also have hurt him but she also herself understand what she did is wrong when she was a kid and always apologize to him, MC as he simply cant comprehend emotions a lot and is mentally damaged he always have a poker face and just doesnt show any emotions at all. The sister sees him as a hollow shell and always blame herself that its her fault that he ended up like how he is now)

his monologs when he is talking with females in the story is very interesting. MC always try to think rationally takes things in face value, you may think MC is bad for not understanding what is happening in reality but you cant blame him as it doesnt really affect him in his own opinion, he doesnt know the world trust means from the start of the novel and he always talks what he thinks without any issue. In his opinion his mother wants him to disappear, same with his sister. He thinks his childhood friend only was with him coz she was nice and didnt really care for MC (MC did loved her back when they were kids) MC wanted to confess to her but then she said that she accepted a senpai confession (she did that to make him jealous as childhood friend thought that he didnt appreciate being with her) MC as he was broken and is breaking even more didnt really show his emotions and just congrats her and said that as she has a bf so MC will stop being close to her so to not get in there way and he stopped being friends with her pretty much. He also got rid of all the things which reminded him of his childhood friend just so he can move on (imo he really did moved on). There was also one basket ball girl manager who confessed to MC but MC overheard convo of her and 2 of her friends about how she just feel sympathy for MC so she went with it, so MC just told her that there is no need for her to go through with it said no to her. (I kinda feel bad for her as she just didnt wanted to admit before her friends that she was in love with him and due to that she just blown her chance with him). There is also student president but she is just kinda ret*rded who just falsely accused him of mol*sting and also apologize to him soon as well as she was wrong but in typical novel style negatives opinion spreads faster in school so pretty much social execution for any normal student but out MC dont feed sh*t so he just poker face out of it. She also kneel infront of it was either his classroom or council room and brought a cond*m and said to take her v*rginity, she was also fine with him f*cking her raw, MC also got the f*ck boy title coz of this act from the president. There is also another girl who nearly got him suspended with the help of her dad as he is a politician, it was quickly fixed as MC neighbor milf waifu is OPOP and got every politician under her thumb.

MC till now has like 13 harem member and all of them kind off love him but MC doesnt really have that feeling so its whatever. <<less

Well the Web Nobel is starting strong. He is also so far darker than the LN. Unfortunately, he later becomes more of a typical harem school, the bad boy and not forgiving and not interested in anything, I liked it very much and that's why the story with the glass boy was great too. I hope it will be more dramatic again. Wanted to ask if you know of any other similar stories with these themes besides the list you can see here. A recommendation would be great, I'd be... more>> happy about it <<less

I honestly can't tell whether the MC legitimately received a mental impairment when he cracked his head against the sidewalk as a kid, or if the author's just treating the MC's depression really, really lightheartedly. The tone of the novel is all over the place, many of the events don't follow from each other, and I just can't really pin down the MC's personality.

This novel also suffers from a horrible lack of communication. I can't even count the number of conversations that went "but I really -" or "but that's... more>> -" or "your mind would be so boggled if I told you this, really your whole world view would change, but -" before the character would get interrupted. If that happened one or two times, sure, that happens in real life too, but the author seems to have decided that all the characters will literally never be able to speak the honest truth to the MC when they want to. If that happens, normally someone would, you know, continue the conversation, or take the MC off to the side. But noooo, not in this novel - the characters will faint, collapse, run out of the room, or stand in mute silence because the author decided that's enough. If you want a novel with a realistic picture of communication, I recommend "Trust Cannot be Restored" by the same translator.

Spoiler

First of all, half the "traumas" this guy faces aren't particularly destructive events like all the characters in the novel seem to think. Sure, getting your confession broken sucks, but that generally doesn't send people off the deep end into suicidal thoughts or ignoring contact from all your friends (it can, for sure, but the MC didn't seem particularly mentally unstable to that point nor so deeply yandere for a crush in elementary school). Getting falsely accused for being a mol*ster sucks, but it was resolved literally 10 seconds later and the accuser apologized sincerely. That doesn't merit the accuser running all over the school or handing the MC a box of cond*ms and offering him her v-card because she's worried he'll commit su*cide from the depression of that 10-second tension. The MC's mother was busy with work as a single mother raising two kids, so she wasn't able to pay proper attention to him growing up. Yes, that sucks, but he had a reliable sister and it's hard to support two kids on a single person's salary. Does that mean the MC should ignore his mother at home or pretend his mother doesn't exist when she comes to the bring-your-parents-to-school day, or that his mother should try to sleep with him at night or enter the bath with him? IMHO, no?

Sure, some of the events do suck. The guy's middle school friend seems to have ruined his middle school basketball career because she wanted him to focus on her, not the club. The guy's sister pushed him off the jungle gym when they were in elementary school, because she was jealous. That cracked the kid's head open, and potentially gave him the mental disability I mentioned at the beginning? Otherwise, I can't really see how this guy flickers through emotions so quickly, sometimes suicidal, sometimes shouting at the top of his lungs about conspiracy theories, sometimes calling classmates "Elizabeth" without reason, sometimes ignoring them outright. However, the timeline doesn't really line up then, because the MC is also supposed to lose his emotional hinge at the end of elementary school when his first crush rejects him. I'm not trying to treat mental disability lightly, and my apologies if it came across as such - this is the best explanation I can figure out and I'm not sure if even the author really thought it through.

I would not recommend it to everyone. It's a slightly disturbing story and emotions portrayed in the novel can affect negatively.

The story tries to portray how the life of MC becomes disastrous to the point where it breaks him step by step to the state where he feels nothing nor does he want to. Every moment where MC should have been happy he despairs. It feels like he is the unluckiest person in the world.

The premise of the story is that the people who hurt the MC or wronged him... more>> in the past are trying to correct it in any possible way.

The author perfectly balances the past and present events with different POVs to explain the story in a slightly intrigued way. The writing of the author is top-class and interactions between characters are awe-inspiring and feel like two people are talking in front of you. Another plus point of the novel would be comedically undone in the novel. The way MC speaks and behaves is slightly peculiar and due to it the interest in the future events of the novel increases.

Side characters also have their set personalities which help to imagine their character growth and how through their past grievances and regret they try to face MC.

Alas, the way some characters tried to find retribution for MC was disastrous and was filled with s*upidity. Their actions only worsen the previous situation of MC and it feels forced and unrestrained. Sometimes I wondered did they did that.

Spoiler

To give an example, the mother of the MC tries to sleep with him for neglecting him in past. As this many things that happen are unreasonable and unjustifiable.

[collapse]

Sometimes the novel feels just wish fulfillment with mc's harem trying to curry his favor through unreasonable actions. As the story progresses the plot becomes unreasonable and unrestrained. Sure, the novel is a word of fiction but still, the author pushes some supernatural power such as hypnosis and ruins the story.

The story is enjoyable for passing time. There is not much depth in the plot just some humor of the MC and some humourous character interactions. Still, I enjoyed the story alas, the author got on break or left, don't know. <<less

Unnatural dialogues, forced developments, overuse of words that can be put inside an "Edge Dictionary". Almost every chapter in the first "arc" of the novel has a couple of words such as "break", "blank", "empty" and their synonyms sprinkled throughout.

... And then 3 chapters into the 2nd "arc" he asked a girl who framed him of s*xual assault to be his friend.

Read Oregairu for a better depiction of someone who lost hope in society and his recovery.

Not too far into the novel yet but I need to talk about some glaring issues.

The MC is supposed to be traumatized and broken or w/e, but the way he talks comes off moreso as some chuunibyou character trying to be dark and cool. It's comical.

His thought process is something that could only possibly come from the mind of the otaku author who probably has never had any experiences with deep meaningful thoughts or interactions with women. Strictly speaking, the MC comes off as someone with severe autism with the... more>> way he interacts and misunderstands to such a severe degree.

I can still somewhat maintain my suspension of disbelief to enjoy the interesting parts of the story, but the author is giving me a really hard time feeling any sort of sympathy for such an unbelievable main character. <<less

Thus, the boy was broken one more time.

see MC was not broken one more time, MC was broken from the start, a ret*rded MC if you will.

MC ability to comprehend relationships is so downright abominable that he, as author writes, "gets broken".

prologue tells a story about childhood friends who want to advance their relationship to a higher level, but as is the case in japan, the boy has to make the confession, so the girl is waiting for MC to confess, gets mad cause MC doesn't confess, then tells MC... more>> that she is accepting another guy's confession to instigate MC, but MC trolls her by confessing to her saying how he wanted to confess to her later and then leaves. Girl is left dumbfounded and cannot explain herself to fix the misunderstanding and clear up the situation, cause MC runs away.

and someone wrote a review saying how MC is not a common cliche japanese MC lol

this is why I wish NU would add "ret*rded Protagonist" tag. Japanese novels are full of them <<less

This novel is pretty bad tbh. I was intrigued at first and looking forward to how things were resolved, but the interactions between characters just feels so unnatural. The instances of him being wronged by quite literally almost every woman he's come across just feels so unrealistic. Then the way the past wrongdoings were resolved felt so unsatisfactory and just downright weird.

Spoiler

His childhood friend literally strips herself naked to apologize to the MC. His sister kisses him (on the lips) and as do his mother and aunt so there's hints of in*est as well. There's an instance of the student council president wrongly accusing him and she offers her body to him. Just a whole load of nonsense.

I wasn't expecting to like this one, but I couldn't stop flicking through the chapters after I started.

The only 'funny' character is the protagonist. He often acts in absurd ways and has strange internal monologues. For this kind of story where the protagonist is described as broken or damaged, I usually expect the very played out edgy quiet loner stereotype. This character is definitely not that, he wants to be but isn't. He loudly broadcasts his intentions and strange thoughts without hesitation. I think it's fun.

Pretty much all the other... more>> characters are tragic. They owe a debt of guilt to the main character, they are responsible for forging his abnormal mindset, and they show strong urges to rebuild what was lost (often failing). Part of the comedy for me was seeing the story quickly switch between a character describing their immense regret and grief followed immediately by re-entering the protagonists head and reading his absurd monologues. Fun tonal whiplash.

Spoiler

I'm not sure how all these hard feelings are going to be resolved by the end, but I was surprised to see the protagonist taking some steps towards improvement himself after an honest confrontation with one of the girls. He seems to have internally acknowledged that his wild misconceptions might be him running away from a more complicated reality. I totally wasn't expecting his weirdness to get any kind of justification beyond the vague idea that he's 'closed himself off'. It was a pleasant surprise and I'm looking forward to what becomes of him in the future.

[collapse]

Edit: What's written before this point was a judgement on the story up to chapter 22. It was quite strong, but I must admit feeling disappointed by more recent chapters, I can't talk about it without going into spoilers so be warned:

Spoiler

So, the main character decides to admit himself to a hospital. I think that's a brave step, very admirable of him to seek help without fear like that - I've got no issues there, if anything I was excited to see him finally set himself on the path of recovery. Unfortunately, the story takes a very unsatisfying turn. It is discovered that his aunt had subjected him to a psychological 'spell' that prohibits him from thinking normally, so he wouldn't kill himself. He visits his aunt and breaks the 'spell', and is now slowly recovering his emotions.

What an absolutely disappointing series of events and a very weak start to his recovery, what should be the most interesting part of the story. His apathy being a result of someone else's tampering rather than an honest response to what the girls have subjected him with cheapens it a lot for me.

What's more, interactions with the girls takes a turn for the worse after this. Their affection-aggression is inexplicably turned up to the max and every girl in his life incredibly blatantly wants what's in his pants (even his family). There was little to prompt this sudden switch besides internal change from the main character, which should have no bearing on the outside world, right? Even girls who have had exchanges with the main character in the single digits are suddenly openly requesting s*x. I don't have a problem with this kind of story, but the shift here has been far to abrupt and utterly unearned. I'm still curious to see where this goes, but it has suffered from a bit of thoughtlessness, in my opinion.

So, one day I saw that a new chapter of the manga adaptation of this was released and got interested in it because of the cover and title. After I read the premise I wanted to read, and knowing it was an adaptation, I came here in search of the original. I decided to start with the Web Novel, considering it was the real original work. And here we are, after this useless preamble, let me begin talking about this novel.

This novel follows the daily life of a high school... more>> boy named Yukito Kokonoe. He is not your usual run-of-the-mill HS boy. No. He is someone who perceives himself as a loner and even comes to the point of saying he is one. Should be fine, considering how those things tend to happen in novels and whatnot, no? The thing is, Yukito is a loner by choice. He had a rough life, to say the least. Most of the women around him scared his heart deeply. One way or another. And when I say all, there is added his mother, older sister, and childhood friend. We follow him while dealing with his broken psyche while still having to deal with the ones responsible for his pain on a daily basis.

Simple enough no?

Well... thing is, nothing is that simple. And it could get ugly if I don't put on some spoilers, then... Here it goes my probably long spoiler session about this novel, enjoy:

Spoiler

Yukito is a strange person. That should be obvious considering how this novel starts. And I'm not talking about the prologue. Anyway, he seems unable to deal with those around him and is unstable mentally. The reason for that is how much he suffered at the hands of the opposite s*x. For all ends and purposes, he is a good person. But that is where the problem comes from. By always putting others in front of him, he ends up misunderstanding people sometimes. And as someone socially inept, to say the least, things get worse and worse, overall. Take the oldest situation we know about his childhood: he always thought that he was adopted. The problem was that he told this to his mother. And to make matters worse, he did not receive a negative, as his mother started to cry over that, he just let the matter go and taken as a taboo theme. But what was his reason, you should be asking? Simple, as both his mother and sister are such amazing beautiful, and competent people, he was nothing near that and could only be found below a bridge by his mother. That is to show how much of a good person he is, but always aggrandizes the people around him, and how he sees himself as a blight in their lives. Being the one that hurts them, worse yet, not even knowing why they were hurt. Because he can't perceive how people care for him. This should show how he is unable to talk things over with people. And I'm not sure of the reason for that. Throughout the novel, we end up learning that someone hypnotized him to make him able to protect his heart from all this pain. Thing is, besides this being a very dumb plot point, we aren't sure if this was the reason for all the problems. The idea was that this would help him evade su*cide, but to me, it was just a dumb plot point added for some unknown reason.

I told you Yukito is broken, but I did not explain how. He is broken in the complete human sense. Let me explain why I say so. He has no family to help him out; His mother and sister have done and talk things that ended up leaving in him the impression that he is a chore, partly because he is dumb and takes everything at face value, but other because they did not notice how delicate his mind was. Sister did worse, but the mother is a problem too. Now imagine someone with no family to retreat into. This should show how much of a problem this could be. Then the next is school; He was used as an example by a teacher who thought she was doing the best and a trainee who didn't know best and was going with the flow. Add to that the fact that his class turned his back against him and attacked him, should show the problem. Then he had no family and no social place to mingle. But at least he had a childhood friend... Then he was betrayed by a beloved one; Mind you, he was partly wrong here, as I will talk about it later, but what you should get from here is that the one he loved told him that she wanted to go out with another dude. His only solace after losing family and friends, the loved one ended up showing signs that he interpreted as negative and left him behind. Now what? He lost a hobby; When you do not have much on the social side, is usual to go try a hobby. He started playing basketball. He started because of a broken heart, but his focus and dedication were enough to help him put his head in order. But he ended up being injured before an important game and the whole team got mad at him. So he lost family, friends, loved ones, and his hobby. The dude starts the story having nothing that confirms his existence. At least that is how he sees things. After so many losses and getting broken, that should be expected. Not that he has zero hand in this, at points. But this explains how much of a broken person he is at the start of the novel.

Anyway, now we need to talk about each of the major troublemakers in this novel. The ones that pushed him into the current situation.

Starting from the first, mother.

She was a working single mom for most of the time. And her separation from her ex-husband was so long ago that Yukito does not even recognize his father. Now, she has done the classic problem in those cases, neglecting her child. At times I've got the impression that Yukito's problem was rotted there, in his stunned relationship with his mother, and that he had no masculine figure to guide him. But we will never know, because this novel has what I would call a problem of over sexualizing everything all the time. And I used it here, when talking about his mother, because she too is one of the women who is a step before just outright rapping Yukito. And that is another problem of the novel, trying to overcompensate the error in the worst possible way. Now, consider that you neglected your child and when he was in a tense situation did not believe him or at least try to talk things over calmly enough. And what came from that was that he closed himself to you. Fine, things are not easy and people are bound to make mistakes. And yes, some things are not mendable. But what did she decide to do? Try and assault him over her guilt, always using her body as a bargaining chip to try and bait him. There is this idea that a broken vase can be mended but will always carry its cracks forever. And that should be the focus here. More than that, they should own their mistakes and try to at least talk it out normally with him. Focus on the normal there. But what I take from it is that they are so desperate to help him that they act like so. What ends up coming out, to me, is egocentric and nonsensical. Not to say that it makes zero sense, but I have the impression that it would not help in such situations, obviously. To the point that even Yukito noticed how the people around him seemed to be eager to do something, but it was more because of the pain and guilt they felt because of him. What ends up being a cyclical motif here, they hurt him, now feel guilt over it, and force themselves to stay around to relieve the guilt and try and help him. Only that they don't choose the best possible thing, most of the time.

Now, this second half should come at the end of my rambling, but it seemed perfect to be added there, considering how much his mother is unable to understand how to help him. By both sides being unable to talk things out normally, we end up forced to see what can only be called a repetition. Worsened by how she decides to use her body to contact him. And get happy when told that he is starting to see her as a woman, more than a mother.

But let me go to the next one, that is a problem too. The sister.

She is one of the worse, in the sense of the hurt she put him through. And by how she acts. What did she do? She threw him out one of those climbing toys that exist in parks while saying that she hated him and never wanted to see him again. What did he do? Took it as gospel and stayed lost for almost a week. Now, at the time she was young. Probably around 10 years of age, most. And kids tend to act without thinking. She only noticed how bad it was when she saw his bloodied inert body on the ground. I'm giving the sis some defense here, but that should be because she was a child and Yukito is unable to understand people. Especially hyperboles. But she is one of the worst with him now. She basically kisses him in the mouth most of the time and rubs her body all over him. Now, I get it, she acted without thinking at a young age has scared her brother forever, and is the one that is most responsible for making him basically a socially inept person now (with his mother). But to use this as an excuse for how she is almost forcing him to sleep with her and all that... How about no? Now, this situation could be pinned on the mother too, that forced a child to take care of the other. But who would've thought this would happen? And now we are forced to follow the daily antics she does with him that seem to only worsen his psyche.

Aunt.

She is the one who hypnotized him. Dumb plot point, and a worse character. She is basically there to insinuate her body to him. She is the one who noticed how broken he was after the whole missing child thing and acted as she could to try and save him and his psyche. But... Well, let us say that she is there to flaunt her b**bs and invite him over to bath and s*x.

Next, a childhood friend.

This is complex too. But, by herself, she is the only one who hurt him and came out as normal (est) of them. At least she talked it over with him eventually and there was no forced nakedness, bath time, and whatever the other did. What did she do? She told him that she would start dating some random senpai out of nowhere. Her plan? Make him jealous and force him to ask her over. What happened? He took that at face value and said he loved her, but now knew she did not like him that way and was only accepting his antics because she was forced by the label of a childhood friend. This was corroborated by one time when she took her hand always when he tried to hold it and that she seemed to be unwell around him at times. Why she did do so? She was ashamed that her hand was sweaty. Did she do wrong? Yes. Sure. Was that the right thing that he did? Not really. When he is info dumping her, you see that she is trying to salvage things, but as he is inept with people, we end with everything ending like that and that's it. That's why I put more of the blame on him (actually, the ones that forced him to be that closed off) than on her. Maybe making someone jealous is a bad move, but how he acted was totally unexpected and dumb. Throwing out the whole relationship without giving her the time to talk it out with you just serves to show us how socially stunted he is. And she is hated by everyone because of that. Well, at least Yukito's sis and her own family. Worse, the would-be boyfriend is an arsewhole and when she did not give him attention told everyone that they've done the deed. And her sister doubt her and thought that she was a whore. That's why I would say she got the worst end, and maybe undeservingly so.

Next, women's basketball friend.

This one loved him and was caught by him saying to her friends that she did not like him for real and was only staying around because she was preoccupied with him. That after confessing her love for him. What he took from it? He was a chore, as always. Holding back someone amazingly great with his uselessness. She is bad. Yes. Done shit. Yup. Her friends told her to go after him and come clean, but she did not do and it only forced him to take it as gospel, again. And when she finally took the courage to talk it out, she ended up slipping and injuring him. Making matters worse, as usual in the novel, he broke his wrist days before an important game. What made him be talked off by the whole team, which was completely dependent on him. A sh*t show, sh*t show everywhere.

And with that, I covered most of his problems. But this would not end. And I have more women to talk about. I will try to make it smaller...

Now we have two senpais from the student presidency.

He was going to help one of them who was being mol*sted and the other thought he was the chikan. And they did not take the time to hear him out, already talking about how he was the worst. Only when a woman who saw everything comes out to help that things get better. And only when he said that he should know that helping people was wrong that the two noticed the sh*t they do. Now, fine, we have another bad situation with women and he is forced to take the brunt of it. But to make the whole thing worse, the president is forcing him to have s*x with her to make up for her mistake. Why? Because f*ck you, that is why. And there is something about her and the time he stayed missing too, but we got nothing out of it (yet). The other is just useless and feels bad, like all others. Ah, and her stepfather is the real father of Yukito, that's it. Useless. (And this whole situation added another person who tried to expulse him from the school because she thought he was abusing the president. Meaning president is one of the worst characters here.)

Angry teacher and neighbor lady.

Both were his teacher in middle school and accused him of stealing something. Worse, did it in front of the class when he told them it wasn't his fault. Spoilers, it wasn't. And this made the whole class accuse him of being a thief and things get so out of hand that he end up kicking the ass of some people in front of the whole class after being bullied and attacked. After he finally proves his innocence and shows that not even one of them took his side (his mother too, mind you), he ends up ignoring his whole class and teachers. Deservingly so. Neighbor lady decided to quit teaching and the other one was in a downward spiral. The class was never the same and died inside, the real culprit was forced to quit that school. All because one teacher thought she was the one who was right and needed to hold justice. Now one of them is his teacher and the other ends up being his neighbor. But he doesn't know or remember them because they were considered his enemy, making him delete them all from his memory. Yup, he was right, and the chapters about that time were one of the best overall. And neighbor is another one that is throwing herself to him. As usual.

And this is the brunt of the women in his life. At least the ones that appear more. Now there are 3 more that deserve to be talked about but are not that important or involved in the whole thing. One ran over him with her bicycle and is a college gal. Seems fine, considering the other ones. Another is the one who helped him on the train (he gave his place for her to sit before trying to save the other), another college girl who is one of the only 2 girls who did nothing wrong.

The last one is Goddess Senpai. She seems to be the other one who did nothing wrong to him and treated him fine. She has an aunt that thought that Yukito r*ped her and took a video. But this has nothing to do with her, so f*ck the dumb drunk demon vomiting on the other's face Aunt/old woman. There is something about her that seemed to be important in the Light novel side, but I don't know, yet.

What is important here is that most of the women seemed to make matters worse, as I said before. Sure they should not let him stay sicky and broken alone. But what they do and how they do can only be called a wrong move. Most of them don't sit and talk things out with the dude. How in the f*ck would they expect him to get better doing so? The dude sees himself as something that only causes pain and gets in their way. In the place of talking it out, as he is unable to comprehend, they decided to sexually assault him...

This dude is a chick magnet, but, to compensate for that, his luck with situations and women is the worst possible. Always breaking him and his mind.

I would like it if someone, like his best friend (male), came around and helped him out. There was an older dude before, but he disappeared and all else too (for the most part), to make way for his sexually depraved family and neighbor, most of the time. What a sad thing...

To end this long thing. There is some hidden stuff important to talk about. The childhood friend's mother asked him to do something about the bad boyfriend, but we still don't know what, just that the ex is scared of something. What happened to him (Yukito) while missing seems to be very important, but why and what happened is still unknown.

What I would say is that I know that people say that he should not be left alone, considering how he was at the beginning. But the ones around him, for the most part, are not the ones that should be helping him. That much should be obvious. I would say that the best way things would get better was if he just went away. Change city and try to start over at a new place. There are bound to be better people there. But with his luck...

[collapse]

Yup... It was very long, eh...

I like this one. Yes. If you read it maybe this comes out as a surprise. But yes, there are good parts. Yukito is a good person who was utterly broken by people. Maybe because he is unable to understand that people aren't always sincere or say what they are thinking, but he is stunted when dealing with people. And this always forces him into the worst situations. And to make matters worse, the ones around him, more often than not, end up making it worse yet. I've read some people defending them, but most of the worst cases are unsalvagable here. Really. Sometimes it is better to distance yourself. And those cases seem to be textbooks on how to not act.

The problem is that I like so many things even in face of the problems. The passages about how things got that bad and when he is dealing with his new friends and all that especially. But in the middle of that, we have the women jumping on him most of the time, and this is not helpful, to say the least. When it gets to the point that the MC says that they are doing it out of guilt, maybe someone should just come around and see how this was really not the way to salvage what little of a good thing he has now.

But hey... bewbs. And baths. And w1ncest, yay!

Please, stop that. Please make Yukito just get a job and move out from at least 70% of the cast. For his own health...

PS.

The last chapter that I read before writing all this (chapter 98), has an interesting passage about how there are things that can't be mended. That some regrets are forever and there is nothing you can do about it. Yes, not even saying sorry or forgive me can help. You have to deal with it. And will forever remember it. I had the impression that at least all of the female cast, minus 2 or 3 ones, should understand it and take a step back to reanalyze what the hell they are doing.

And Yukito should retire to the mountains and start ascetic training. He needs to clean his body of bad karma. And stay far away from those s**en demons. <<less

This story is not for everyone and it is definitely not for me.

I was actually quite enjoying the story. Although quite a mess, but it was still interesting. The protagonist past has been mainly explained, he figures out why he is the way he is and goes on the path of self discovery and recovery. His situation is further highlighted due to his awareness of the poor communication skills he has. So, what he decides? To improve, that's what. Commendable and the right step forward to become a better self.

But... more>> what does he do? Basically nothing. His communication skills improved to the point where he was finally able to clear out misunderstanding that have been happening around him. But when it comes to relationships he already has? Nothing. Nil. Zero. The most important part of communication skill is the ability to express your thoughts and feelings, which is the thing he just doesn't do.

One might say, he's a teenager, he has no experience in life or whatever. The author showed that he is intelligent enough to have the highest grades in the school. How can someone smart enough to reach that level not think of learning about things he does not know or is confused about from external sources. Let's say that the school library does not have the needed materials, but does internet not exist in that world? It sure does as the author mentioned the mother working from home.

Yet, he does no such thing. Detached from everything as he drowns in belittling himself.

This is the breakpoint for me. I could tolerate other stuff, but not delivering what he promised to do and going on only thinking that he is right. If he spoke up about his feelings, the ones he has and the ones he had lost, as self-deprecating as he is, things would've been way different and would've been resolved much faster.

Dropping this. <<less

Seriously in this novel the only explantation to the absurdity of the developpement after the first 15 chapters is " because the author wants it this way"

I was very interested in the strat by how the MC is indifferent to the girls who wrongd him ad it was totally there fault but then the author forces the evenets so they can go back to how they were, WHY though ? Why does he have to reconcile whith them ? They hurted him unilateraly, never apologized in time and then what... more>> he have to forget his years of pain because they asked for forgivness and act as if nothing happend, hell no. I ould be OK if there was for exemple a new gil who show up helps him recover and maybe forgipve them but no wa going back, staying indifferent is the way to go. It's sad that a lot of novels starts in a unique way but at the end converge to the same end just to please the most readers even though the bigest hits are most of the time the storys that don't follow the treds. <<less

This story is so bad that I feel like my iq is lower just by reading it. The main character is a bundle of randomness and idiocy, and the other characters make no sense whatsoever. Neither with their actions, nor with what they say and think. The only reason for me giving it 2 stars is because the translator did a good job.

If you are looking for a sad story about a protagonist whom was betrayed but never really want to reconnect and live an independent life then this story comes close. The protagonist due to his past trauma developed a strong kind of apathy that makes him mentally strong against the movements of the girls around him. This protagonist also shows harsh decisiveness especially when a person betrays his trust then he cuts them off completely which is satisfying. People want to reconnect with him but as the title says, its too late for them and as such most of the story revolves around their failed attempts at reconnecting with the protagonist while he creates new connections with other people. The story may contain depressing incidents but are resolved by the very people that caused him trauma which also have an unfortunate effect of reinforcing said trauma.

This is an interesting take on the harem genre as many of the featured girls that connects to the main character through unfortunate events that gives them a very bad impression from him but they pursue him nevertheless. The main character is popular but he doesn't understand and doesn't want to.

If anyone is curious about the extent of his trauma:

Spoiler

During his childhood, he was rejected by his sister and was lost to them for several days.

It destroyed his trust for family

During the time he is missing, he is able to go to his Aunt's home and she is able to hypnotize him out of su*cide

This created his mental strength at the cost of empathy

During his elementary days, he is falsely accused of a crime but nobody beleived him

This destroyed his trust of his peers (classmates) and authority figures (teachers)

During his middle school days, his childhood friend lied to him saying she is dating a senior just as he was about to confess his love. Made worse by the rumors made by the senior saying they had s*x (they didn't)

This destroyed his trust for any friend

And final nail to the coffin would be in the same time, he tried to win a sport he is practicing for but was unable to join since he had an unfortunate accident caused by the manager (girl) of the sports team he is with

This destroyed his ability to dream and aspire for himself

The novel started off weird and seemed to be centered around a misunderstanding type of comedy like Gamers! That was only at first though. The title says it best. Due to circumstances, the MC is emotionally and mentally broken to a severe degree and the reasons for it are tragic. The story follows the MC and shows us his thoughts as well as the thoughts and actions of those around him as his past slowly gets revealed. I had close to no expectations for this novel but now I keep... more>> eagerly waiting for the next chapter. Worth the read. <<less

Starts out strong, with clear direction. Somewhere around chapter 30 it becomes typical ecchi "lucky pe*vert" timid beta MC harem tr*sh, with women of all ages throw themselves at MC, literally asking for s*x with him, and MC just ignoring it. Romance? Nope. No development here, just an endlessly indecisive MC and female characters that are portrayed as mindless thots.

It's so ridiculous that it comes to a circle and you start to enjoying it (if you are willing to overlook the situation).

MC is justice and every girl has wronged him, that's the rule.

Enjoy the MC tr*shing every girl that have to give everything to him to get forgiveness.

I love this novel, I know that's a pretty biased way to start but whatever, the thing about this story is the uniqueness of the protagonist, if you can't get behind him and understand him, you are absolutely and without a doubt, going to hate the story, but if you understand and side with the protagonist, you are pretty much guaranteed to like it, there is a very difficult middle ground, honestly if you are mixed about it that's impressive.

Now, let's talk plot, the simplest way to summarize the story... more>> is, we follow the life of a dude, and how he got destroyed and broken in every aspect of his emotional and mental health, causing him severe trauma and leaving him in a heavily depressed and suicidal state, and how he is trying to get better and start working to heal his mental and emotional health, to finally start to leave behind his traumas, and finally be whole again, and how other people help him through it, (only some of them, some don't because they aren't actively hanging out with him, others were the ones which hurt him, and are tryna make it up to him, the number of people who actually are trying to help him and haven't actively contributed towards his mental trauma is few in number but strong in heart), and this is his journey through it.

The story leans hard towards how he sees stuff, after all the traumas, and his misunderstanding with his cognition of how other people think of him, towards the reader it is a very emotionally driven story, and if you can or not empathize with him and his situation, influences your view of the story, and by proxy its protagonist, very, very hard, at some point it even starts to feel guilt tripping with how they show his situation and his view and opinions of others, trying to make it so you root for the clearing of his misunderstanding and problems, so he can finally be sane, in that sense as I said earlier, if you can't bring yourself to like the MC, or you can't care for him, you will not be able to get invested in the story.

You get a good feel toward how the story will go at around chapter 24, so if you liked it up until that point then you will like the rest of it

If you wanna know what happened to him, and how these incidents messed him up before you start reading, check this:

Spoiler

Now this people had reasons for why they did this, it's fine to hate them for what they did, but do keep in mind that they heavily regret what happened and are actively and strongly trying to redeem themselves and make it up to him (these ones are the ones I have seen as far as translation has gotten, I will update it if something else appears)

· His mother pretty much abandoned her motherly duties, due to her huge focus with work and didn't try to meaningfully connect with him in his earlier years

-Denied him of parental love and made him start to create a cognition of himself where he was mostly a bother

· His sister got stuck with caring for him, due to their mothers' fault, so while being very young got really fed up with it and lashed out at him in a park where she told him that she hated him and to disappear

-Destroyed his familial trust, and made the cognition from earlier take a real form

· His childhood friend, one of the few reasons he wasn't fully mentally and emotionally dead for a while, tried to pressure him into saying something by pretending to have boyfriend, which he didn't take well at all, basically breaking their relationship

-Basically the finishing blow to his emotional health, denying him of the few emotions that he still had and finalized his cognition of how other people not only actively disregard him but found him to be unbearable or a pain to deal with

· In elementary school, he was framed for having stolen something from an intern working there, where his classmates proceeded to bully him due to a mistake by the teachers, which also wronged him as they didn't listen to his explanation and decided that he was wrong and that was it

-Destroyed the trust he had for his peers and his superiors, in this case teachers, and made it so he actively avoided interactions with others

· In middle school, he was a member of the basketball team, the manager of the club, which was aiming for the MC and told him, told some of her friends how she disliked him and couldn't stand him due to her embarrassment and by an accident made it so he couldn't play the finals

-Destroyed his yearning for goals and aspirations, and the finals where a place which he thought would be enough for him to get closure with what happened with his childhood friend, basically denying him closure on that
