Chi Yan had always had a weak constitution, and ghosts had always tried to kill him. He had tried many ways to change his situation, but it was all futile.

Coincidentally, Third Master Ye of Shiming City passed away, and a priest informed Chi Yan that Third Master Ye possessed the “look of demon,” Carrying a bit of this man’s ashes and installing an altar for him at home could help control the evil spirits around Chi Yan.

Left with no choice, Chi Yan took a gamble. Amazingly, it worked. However he didn’t expect to instead be haunted by the most persistent ghost of them all.

I finished reading this a while back actually. However I had to come back to give a review because of how prominent the plot was still in my mind.

One of the main pros of this novel is definitely it's ending. While it does feel a little rushed (perhaps because I'm used to far longer stories, which means this section is entirely subjective) it is a pretty good plot twists.

I do feel like the male lead being the god of all things evil seems like a hastily written plot deus ex machina to explain why he is always a sort of undead in every world, it is kind of implicated (if you squint really hard)

the main character's backstory also feels muddled and not really clearly written. Also, it feels a bit anticlimactic, since it turns out that it was by pure coincidence he managed to break the law of fabric of time and lands in ML's little nowhere land.

In other words, the author most likely only cared about the stories in each of the mini worlds or instances, (if you prefer the latter) than the overarching plot. I find that the arcs are more well written, clever, and feels deep in a sense I can't describe. However, once the ending comes, the author fumbled because they probably didn't think this far and decides to use a deus ex machina explanation to forcefully close it down.

the Male Lead is more clearly written, which makes our MC muddled backstory all the more obvious is the result of the author originally made him with the intention of a helpless weak shou that is thrown into the world of supernatural

The MC feels like a sort of victim in every world. Everything and anything is absolutely dead set on making his life (s) a living hell, and that was also another thing I never did understand. It was never stated why the main character attracts these undead, it also seems as if

in his 'original' life, he was a normal not involved in the supernatural kind of guy. So where did he gain this ghost magnet ability?

The ML's power also wasn't clearly explained. We never knew if he is the embodiment of evil and all things corrupt itself or he is THE evil, that he is everything that is considered evil. If it was the latter, it would make sense why undead always gather near MC because they're a fragment of ML and is attracted to him. But if it wasn't, then it was just a convenient plot point.

In retrospect however, I do like this novel. The only complaints I had was the 'overarching plot' which barely appeared other than to explain their continuous reincarnations. It's ashame that people gloss over the arcs with it's well written plot twists and even chilling dialogues in favor to tr*sh on its ending.

While I understand its frustrating to read a good book with a half hearted ending, I feel as if the arcs also hold a significant amount of sway on the reader's expectation for the ending, only to be let down.

I do reccomend the book, the horror scenes are well written enough to give the illusion that MC is helpless, but if you're here for a satisfying and well written ending, then close your eye and take off your brain. Don't question the details of the ending unless you want to be left frustrated.

Actually it's 4.5 stars. This comment is a bit large, sorry 'bout that, just that a few word won't be enough

This is a really interesting ghost story and the plot is amazing.

... more>> And yes this is horror, it's in the tags, and yes it has some scary scenes, if you don't feel comfortable with that don't complain later, and save it.

And all the complaints your seeing... THE ONES WHO WROTE IT DIDN'T EVEN GET THROUGH THE FIRST ARC... IF THEY GET AT LEAST TO THE END (or at least understand the context of the things) OF THE FIRST ARC (that end at chapter32) THEY WOULDN'T WRITE THINGS LIKE THAT, SO DON'T DROP JUST BECAUSE YOU SAW SOME IGNORANT COMMENT. THIS IS WAY TOO GOOD TO BE DROPPED OR NOT GIVE IT A CHANCE.

So let me explain a bit about the ML and the MC:

The ML (the ghost) is possessive, obessessive, lovely, protective, he spoils the MC, and is hella cute with him, at first he doesn't know how to really "love someone" he just know that he's extremely in love/fond with the MC, although yes in the first arc there was some "manipulated memories" he then explains why he did that, he's literally the husband everyone would wish for. and NO he never isolates the MC from anyone else.

The MC (human) he's too easy to scare sometimes, he can see ghosts, and yeah he actually tends to believe in the supernatural things a lot. In the first arc, where everything begins, he one day search for the ashes of one person (ML) which finally ends with the ghost of the ML staying with the MC. ML is very protective with him, so the ones whom he isolates the MC from are the ghost, nobody else just them, who are the ones wanting to hurt his wifey, although the MC becames very depedent on him.

i've gotta say another thing, the MC really likes the MC, so it's very mutualthe feelings they got for each other, and it is very fluffly, and yes there are chapters with a lot of dog food. So don't overthink about things never mentioned and see it as something to complain at, although at the beginning (of their relationship, which happens just the first arc) it might be a bit harsh, but remember this is a horror story, a happy ending too early wouldn't be the case anyone would like.

There's a lot of people talking about the "rape", and if they are talking about before MC & ML get to mutual feelings (in the first arc, in the second arc never happened something like this!), I actually don't understand the drama some people made. When the MC gets to its sober mind, he actually sees it as "facing his own karma" so all the things that happened were never a excuse to make trouble over that since he knows that that was his own fault, and is something like "i provoke it, I bear the consequences".

The reason I gave this 4.5 and not 5 is because the MC at first... don't know it didn't convince me, but then it was fine

This is already one of my fav. and so I really would like people to enjoy it. <<less

I actually really like this story. It's just too bad the translation's not still coming out. At chapter 30, I'm still not at the end of the first arc, and, in fact, did not realize there were tags such as 'world hopping' and 'reincarnation' until another review stated that this delved into multiple lives of the MC and ML. I was so foolish as to think the story was almost concluded, but was essentially still in the midst of the prologue, how lame of me!

Anyway, here's hoping the novel's picked... more>> up again, because I'd at the very least like to know how the first life is resolved. <<less

This is an excellent novel and also an excellent translation (from both translators).

The early chapters really had my skin crawling... really was a legitimate horror novel, but at the same time so addicting/fascinating that I could stop reading.

I'm not sure if the rest of the arcs will also have a horror-theme, but the first arc is super good so far. I am not a horror fan but it is so good I almost hope they will all be like this.

Romance between MC and ML starts off extremely atypically but then... more>> becomes extremely sweet. Really kudos to the author for writing such atmospheric scenes and the translator for translating it so faithfully and skillfully. <<less

The first few arc was awesome, but I think too many reincarnations with same storylines make them a little boring. And throughout the story, it felt like reading a summarized short story instead of a novel. Not much interaction between characters and I really dislike when author call a certain location that should be the setting elements just 'this village', 'that mount', 'inn L', why author couldnt come up with a name to make the story feel realistic and connected?

ohh the vampire one is my favaorite though. And the ending... more>> when Chi Yan found the truth about his incarnations is the best, that somehow satisfy why Ying Zhi is such ghost all the time. Awesome! <<less

This is so so good. I love angsty novels but unfortunately I find they are hard to come by so I'm so glad I found this. Finally a novel that I don't have to force myself to read!

While the way that they form their relationship is always a bit ambiguous and unhealthy their love is so genuine and their little habits and traits such as ML licking away MC tears is so cute.

Unfortunately I can see that translators find it a bit hard to consistently translate this novel which although... more>> I do find it really sad I know no one is obliged to update but I dearly hope someone gives this novel a chance and picks it up. <<less

Okay, thus far I liked the Novel. Not to say it isn't semi Dubious Consent at first but it's a Novel and the MC has his own views so how are we ones to make the decisions on how to perceive things. I'd really love to read this Novel translated on only one site. I'm not going to read the rest for the time being merely because of how annoying it has been to have to keep coming back to NU to figure out where the next Chapter is.

Wow, I like the story because this is more of their romance, not to change protagonists in various worlds. And I'm more comfortable reading this because they both remain themselves, unlike transmigrants whose bodies and names are different. Sometimes in some parts I was annoyed by Chi Yan (MC) because he was naive and couldn't be firm in making decisions and was too dependent on Ye Yingzhi (ML).

This is a horror/BL series where the MC lives through each incarnation living through the nightmare and trauma at least partially caused by the ML. The ML is an evil being. I would not consider their relationships to be a romance until the later stages of each arc thus far because the ML tends to r*pe the MC, manipulate the MC, use mind control on the MC, alter memories of the MC and even using this to trick the MC into having s*x with him, and terrify the MC until... more>> becomes dependent on the ML. Their relationship in each arc thus far starts off in an extremely unhealthy manner.

The "romance" doesn't make a whole lot of sense, so I suppose they're just destined soul mates where it doesn't matter how much your lover r*ped you, took over your mind, or manipulated you in the past, you can still have a happy relationship together. It's definitely not healthy or realistic.

If you came for romance, retreat!

All that said, this is much more a horror series than a romance one, which is the reason I am reading it. The MC lives under strange circumstances each arc, and these circumstances develop in terrifying ways in which the MC struggles for his life and the lives of his friends and loved ones. With monsters and spirits abound, will he survive the nightmares surrounding him or be killed by them?

I really enjoy this as a series of scary stories. It would be nice if the romance genre were dropped altogether, and the MC didn't have anyone to depend on each arc. The fact the ML wants to help him at all (even after torturing or scaring him half to death) cuts the suspense. <<less

So happy that this was picked up by another translator! I MTL this til the 4th arc and gave up with the MTL bc it was to0 hard to comprehend. The horror element makes this novel unique. I was so creeped out with the first arc. I got goosebumps while reading. Can't wait till the translations catches up to where I left off in MTL. I've re-read 1st and 2nd arc. I sure won't be re-reading if this wasn't good. Highly recommend!

Finished the first 2 arcs and the best way I can describe it is fluffy BL horror, if that makes any sense. Basically, if you're a fan of fluffy BL and ok with mild horror, then read it.

Stopping at C30 but it's not like I disliked the novel. Just that this is a bit too much of 'horror' I can take lol.

I was trying to see how much I can take but this one is not the one *sigh*

Story-wise, it's nice to read (if you don't count the horror part). I like to read about possessive ML yo.

... more>> And as a ghost, ML surprisingly retained human logic despite people say ghost cannot think like human anymore.

So, a friendly warning for those who are timid (like me), you might wanna check the first few chapters and see if you can take it. If you can, then good. If you can't, you probably need to stop lol because the horror level doesn't drop at this current chapter.
