Lu Shang picked up a dirty teenager while discussing work at a bar. It was merely happenstance, but memories from ten years ago resurfaced when he saw the gunshot scars on the teenager’s back.

Lu Shang asked him, “What is your name?”

“Xiao Li… My surname is Li, so they all called me Xiao Li.”

“You don’t have a name?”

“I don’t remember.”

The love of Li Sui and Li Shang is pure and deep bone, thrown in the business plots and at the same time, the life and death of Lu Shang, this story is about genuine love that one would wish to have. Well written story! Kudos to the author.

A very good bl that takes place in the backdrop of business intrigue and chronic heart disease.

The MC and ML are both strong, independant and likeable and they treat each other with respect and genuine love, even when they have drama. They hold each other up in troubled times and are happy together when things are good.

I haven't read a novel so good in a very long time.

The story has enough of everything.

The chapters are long as well. The translation is almost perfect.

The MC & ML gives so much love, power and suspense.

A very good read. Cant wait to see what will he do at the end.

This is such a beautiful novel, heartbreaking yet heartwarming at the same time. There's definitely angst coming from a plot about terminal illness but the pure and unconditional love between the couple is so moving that you'll feel bittersweet. I shed a few tears, not gonna lie, and I have to remind myself a couple of times that this is a happy ending to somehow ease the heartache. I loved the dynamic between the MC and ML. With their intertwined tragic past and their uncertain future that may lead... more>> to death, other than the kind of dynamic the MC and ML have, most relationship wouldn't be able to pull through to the end. I admire the MC and ML's own personality and their attitude towards their relationship, their growth as an individual and as a couple and the way they're so protective of each other. They're such a perfect fit for each other.

There's also some business aspect happening on the sideline that's adding to the overall tension. That's when I realized how hard ML is trying to be strong mentally, when his lover in on the brink of death but he still has to do everything to keep MC's company from landing on the wrong hands. All of these happening simultaneously and I'm surprise he hadn't collapse right there and then.

The angst is not exactly dog blood. As I said, it was more bittersweet than anything. And for those who's hesitating to read because it's heartbreaking and they're afraid that it's going to end tragically, just try. This is definitely worth all the tears. <<less

I am inclined to believe the former but it was never openly discussed btw them so it still could be the latter. I mean I think at some point MC confessed to it being the later but I am not sure he was being honest and really planned to do it or just felt guilty that there was such a plan at some point in the past

Also the scene with a gang of snakes chasing after ML was totally ridiculous. So much research into a heart disease and zero into basic zoology topic. Though I just cannot judge how trustworthy the medical information in the novel was as I have zero knowledge about it (though sounded pretty unrealistic too me, I think a real person would die long time ago), but even without any special research I know that snakes do not behave like this.

Sometimes ML was pretty s*upid, how can 1. You think it is ok to force s*x on a person with a serious heart disease 2. How can you not notice that the said person is having a high fever until you almost had s*x with them (like he noticed at the last step).

Anyway it was still not bad, they cared about each other a lot, trusted each other, supported each other, fought for each other. Except for the things I mentioned a very caring and selfless relationship.

P.S. also I am not sure but it did feel a bit like a case of g*ooming to me, not intentional probably but still... <<less

It's an interesting read. The MC isn't a saint nor a perfect character. Although, his personality took a change towards the second half but that's to be expected, considering the circumstances he experienced and his new priorities. The ML has an impressive character's growth, he's there to fully love and live for the MC 😁 he's not perfect too. They went through storms together. They're both compatible.

I genuinely enjoyed the start of this novel, the writing was good and the business aspect was well developed and enjoyable. However as the romance developed I liked it less and less. I don't understand how the MC could see the ML as anything other than a child he was looking after, the novel never described the process of him falling in love. I think my main issue is with the ml, I just couldn't get behind him, at first he was too immature and incompetent and although he had... more>> a lot of character growth as he aged, it never seemed quite enough to make him likeable. After all, all of his achievements are simply due to the MC.

In contrast I seriously liked the MC, how hard working and focused he was, how he dealt with his health and came to terms with it, the struggles he faced after falling in love and having something to live for. As someone with a disability and chronic health conditions I greatly appreciated the representation of disabling health conditions. It wasn't glossed over or romanticised, it wasn't diminished or simply used as a plot device to make him weak or sympathetic, in contrast it made him an even stronger character than he would have been if he was healthy.

I had to skip the s*x scenes, mostly because of personal preference but also because I don't see the allure of reading the ML continuing even when MC is exhausted due to poor physical condition. Sometimes he realises to stop and be thoughtful, sometimes he doesn't.

In conclusion, this was a novel I would have given a miss if I knew how it developed but the start was so strong I gave it the benefit of the doubt and it fell short. <<less

It's definitely worth reading!

I've Re-read the novel more than 5 times already and I will always go back to add it again if I get the chance to 🤭

Both couples have a perfect example of unconditional love for each other which have been tested time and time again but they still keep going strong🥹

Honestly I’m so disappointed... I was so excited at the beginning bc it was really my cup of tea (I really like angst) but it just kept getting worse I had to drop it at ch.33

To be fair the story is so good and wholesome and I really like both the MC and ML,

But idk I feel like everything was rushed... I feel like there were so many things (and moments) that needed more attention and details, so unfortunately I just couldn’t feel any strong emotions

It is a good novel which made me stay up all night just to read it. Though I came for pure smut, I got this emotional rollercoaster that is so well thought out. Although the initial part was icky it is the character development that I truly enjoyed. In conclusion I would reread it again.

This novel is so good. It has everything I like in a story: angst, fluffy, character development, an interesting plot, tragic past, passing of the years, and I laughed a lot while reading, so, to me, it's totally worthy. I was in a serious deadlock with readings, nothing was suiting me, I was just reading my favorites novels all over again, but The Heart Of A Smith pulled me through it, so I'm endlessly grateful to this story. Reading the summary I thought ‘this seems like it’s gonna suck but I’ll try it anyways.’ In the end I liked it quite a lot. My main complaints would be the numerous grammar mistakes despite having an editor most of the novel. Also the translator’s notes will interrupt the story a lot and even spoil what’s going to happen, honestly made me think ‘wtf you’re ruining it.’ The story had some abrupt time skips and the plot was okay overall, some things made it feel kind of like it was... more>> done on a whim of the author. I can also tell the author tried to be medically accurate but some things stick out, well, if you know about the topic you’ll know what’s wrong.

My praises would be the romance and main couple development, I really loved seeing the MC and ML interact, as well as their thoughts, goals, motivations. It felt really down to Earth and I found myself really absorbed into the characters, despite not having any similarities, because they were really relatable with their worldview. Although the time skips were abrupt and it felt like the novel dropped situations and characters that were introduced in earlier chapters, I think it was the right choice because otherwise the novel would be a million pages long, I did find myself wanting to know more but this story takes place over more than 7 years so maybe I really don’t want to know That Much.

I really loved the main couple’s relationship and how it changed and grew over the years into something spectacular. Plenty of heartbreak and pain, lots of agonizing chapters, but it’s a HE that made me very satisfied. <<less

This is a beautiful story that is also a rollercoaster of emotions. There's a good amount of angst and fluff in this (see tags). Both characters really grow throughout the story and they feel well developed.

I particularly liked the ML (Lu Shang). He's sickly but by no means weak. He's a powerful and strong businessman, and he's not some nice white lotus. At one point in the story I was mad at him (read the summary), but then quickly got over that.

The MC (Li Sui) is less interesting to me, only because he falls into the archetype of dedicating his life to the ML. HOWEVER, I enjoyed seeing him grow into a mature and capable adult and come to terms with his affection for the ML.

Rating: 5/5- Poignant, realistic, heartwarming and heartbreaking! Such a memorable and wonderfully told story!

This was such a rollercoaster of emotions for me. Both characters are so wonderfully written and the growth from chapter one right until the extras was so fantastically woven, it felt like these people were known to me personally!

My heart broke over and over for the leads but it was wonderful to see them overcome their own inner demons and get what they truly deserved. It was also good to see how they grew more honest and... more>> better at communication.

I honestly didn’t go into this expecting such a brilliant plot and the company politics and family ties were really well crafted. You always feel like you’re at the edge of your seat because you really aren’t certain of what is going to happen. I especially loved how much dedication the author put into medical terms and the MCs condition. It made the entire reading experience all too real.

Overall I really loved how the story progressed and the flow and logic was quite neatly tied up. The extras are really wonderful and really give the bittersweet tone of the novel a wonderfully saccharine ending to all the anguish you feel when reading.

I admire the respect and care the ML showed from start to finish. It’s wonderful to read relationship that are consensual and weak but honest and considerate characters in Yaoi. He was not perfect or all knowing but he worked so hard and his intentions were so pure. Really so rare to have such strong and beautiful characters in Yaoi.

These two are definitely in my top 5 CPs. Li Sui is a really role model like Seme.

Otherwise I 100% recommend reading The Heart of a Smith! Your heart is sure to go through many fluctuations but it’s worth the ache! <<less

I found a treasure! I hesitated at first because the description summary looks boring to me. After some time I tried reading this then boom! It's actually a hidden gem!!!! I really love this! You'll regret not reading this! (P.s. I actually jumped chapters upto 11 after reading chapter 1, but now I'm slowly reading the skipped chapters) "heart" "heart"
