Forcefully brought over from the modern world to an alternate world, Wang Chong felt detached and lived his life aimlessly.

However, when calamity struck and he saw his family and everything he cared for being torn apart, he felt regret.

Thus, he stood up and eventually became the Grand Marshal of the Central Plains, leading an army against those who sought to destroy all he cherished.

Yet, despite all his efforts, it was already too late to reverse destiny.

But before his death, a shooting star, the same one which brought him to this world, appeared before him, and he was given another chance to undo his regrets.

This novel is one of the greatest books, I’ve ever read in my life and that’s why I leave this review due to the sheer brilliance. I have reread it 3 times in the past 6 years and each time I discover something new or it helps fill in things that I was previously clueless about. It being rated so lowly is a disgrace as the vast amount of bad reviews simply did not read the novel. I understand having your gripes about things that are made unclear at the... more>> start, but good things take time and not everything can be explained at once.

My own personal strife is that sometimes he forgets about the vast amount of characters that he wrote about and some are forgotten for long periods of time.

Alluding to that he builds every character up fabulously even allowing the reader to visualize what the author had in mind and allowing a glimpse of what they want and how’d they go to get it. The character building and world building in this novel are far better than anything I’ve read before as well.

Spoiler

I have glimpsed through the bad reviews and a lot of them are due to misunderstandings of hierarchy in governments and families, just because Wang Chong wants to tell his father not to go somewhere doesn’t mean he exactly can, as he is the third son and cannot order his father around but only give him a warning, he can’t take command of any armies or troops until he gains the qualified position because there is always the threat of accusations of rebellion and resisting the Emperors will, these will both lead to imprisonment and the death of his clan and himself.

There was complaints about him being loyal to Emperor Taiyi, and that’s because not only does he respect the Emperor for everything he has done for the Tang, but also because he has too as a subject of the Tang.

Another complaint being the name of the novel The Human Emperor, it was never his goal to become an Emperor only at the end of the novel with Li Heng’s sacrifice is the reason he became one, with Li Heng himself saying he knew that Wang Chong would never agree to it.

I have a lot more to say but a lot of the bad reviews can be explained by reading the novels and understanding Wang Chong was a genius in strategy and pure intelligence during his first life on RTS and war games, coupled with the amount of trials and struggles he went through against the otherworldly army in his second life and then knowing what will happen and knowing the future and planning and defeating all his future enemies, will give the Tang Empire the idea that Wang Chong indeed is a undisputed genius and War God amongst the rest of the continent.

Overall a pretty decent kingdom building novel. It tackles the difficulty of a single guy trying to change and move a massive empire while not being the ruler. I particularly liked that even if the protagonist knows someone will become a calamity in the future, he cannot kill them off as they are protected by "heavens will", thus the protagonist has to focus more on minor changes throughout the whole system rather than single big steps.

I'm quite surprised by this novel, in a good way

So this is a isekai+reincarnation novel, the MC was from modern China, extremely talented in strategy, got isekai-ed into the Great Tang era and practically wasted his life since he got no "special power". He got reincarnated and decided to start doing things.

It's a cultivation novels with emphasis on kingdom building and court politics which were particularly well done, I'm surprised myself that the best part of this novel were actually the court politics.

The characters are also well defined with a... more>> good dimension to their personality, without these characters, the whole politic game will lose its color and fun. Is there romance here? Yes, but it was the barest minimum of romance, nothing noteworthy.

Alas, this novel does come with its flaw. Amidst the amazing story telling and kingdom building, the battle was simply abysmal. The MC troupe was that he's in fact a war saint with godly strategy, but I was a bit disappointed with how his campaigns unfolded.

There were strategies involved, but it mostly came down to picking a right place to hunker down and fight to the last man. The enemy's army will come down on MC with "special units" that made you question "how the f*** Great Tang survived this whole time" and MC will solve the problem with a series of plot armor. Even the ending got solved with a plot armor, what a shame.

Writing a strategically-gifted MC was never an easy job, especially so in a world where the whole army practically cultivates. But at least the author still have a good grasp on court politics.

Overall, it was not a bad read, though I admit that I just skipped read the battle arc as much as possible, especially toward the end. If you want to read how a man builds up his influence and power, this is a good one to read. 4 stars. <<less

The best thing I've read in a while!

If you like strategy, warfare, politics, and cultivation this novel is perfect.

Not everything is realistic, but let's be honest, it is because it's not realistic that we read these. So very very nicely written!

I find my self skimming through after 700 chapter or so. There's so much information. That was irrelevant to the story, I like how they approach this by using real life history and incorporate into the history of the novel world. But too much is too much! We have I think over 1000 characters or so, you hardly remember who is who after a while.

In the beginning it was very interesting watching MC weave his webs, step by step making his plans for the future.

But I think around chapter 400s... more>> everything went to wall, the first war happens and everything set up priors weren't that important. But spend around hundred chapters you know for example preparing those trainee at the camps, they weren't even useful at the end. Like the one brother of his prior to rebirth is like you see me here and won't see me again for hundreds of chapter to come. Those little girls weren't even mentioned again later. They create character backgrounds that link to MC but shove them to the side afterwards.

I guess I like the MC. Sage Emperor, Li Heng, Ayasaka. And other characters. I don't hate anybody in particular. Besides that 2nd princess and older girl in beginning which they vanish like thin air because of the power gap when MC gets stronger.

The story is very straightforward and easy to understand, there's no plot holes. Except the naming of some people are rather absurd. They can't have a normal name haha.

Romance is non existent which is great. That love of one girl near the end don't even have any romantic feelings to it, it was more like a duty for him to marry someone to pass on his lineage. Well in the end he had the power to have more wives, he can shove them all in.

The Destiny thing is a hack, no way around it. MC's brain plays the major role though. I really don't understand what happen in his previous life, with his brain he could've done alot better for himself. But the stone weren't activated yet I guess plot device.

I think this novel is a good read, if you skim through the non important information that is irrelevant to plot you get around 1000s chapters. <<less

The strategies used and how MC strives to excel even when placed with limits is gratifying unlike other novels.

Too much word padding and long ass technique names which is just a simple soldier charge / horse charge.

Duels by MC against big name generals introduced on the fly take too long and have the same template as the other duels.

Too much mcguffins with awesome and ancient powers of unknown and mysterious abilities that gives anyone who wields it the winning button but it is hindered by the opponents other mcguffin with his special cultivation that outranks the first mcguffin for a short while making the wielder be on their... more>> last string only to reveal that he has another secret and other-worldly energy that can overrule...... etc.

After several hundred chapters: Strategies are meaningless only super OP Generals /Saints /Emperor /King /Elders /Eunuchs /Immortals /Ninja /Saiyan /Kryptonian /Shinigami /Incel /SigmaMale can win battles. <<less

This is probably my favourite LN ever (or maybe second to Hail The King) anyway, it is so full of the action I like a.k.a commanding instead of fighting. The start of the novel is packed full of great battles and although by the 1000's it dies down ... more>>

it might not be soon. I went off topic but just to finish: This novel is a great read as long as you push through certain less than interesting parts (also the woman at the start are quite hot blooded, the author went against all cultivation logic and made it that they can hurt MC even though he's like 3 big realms above them). <<less

It's good but you can start seeing cracks at this point, the MC seems more like a dude trying to make the best of things now that he knows the future rather than a War Saint.... more>>
Spoiler

His tactics consist of building a steel fort so provocatively that the enemy is compelled to throw their soldiers at it.

[collapse]

The novel hyped things way too much at the start and at this point in the novel you can really feel the back pedal on it.
Spoiler

The MC gets his hands on a type of metal that can make the ultimate swords using the MC's secret methods. At the start it can cut through a metal mountain like a hot knife through butter as well as break a bunch of swords that were all fighting for the title of worlds best sword. It goes from that to only being able to deal with mobs and making titled mobs open there eyes and have pale faces as they realise they probably won't win this fight.

The "Invincible General" starts off being able to deal with a mountain full of bandits around his level with this sword. Now he's just a signal for "Oh, this guy's strong" when he gets knocked away.

[collapse]

There's cultivation in it but that pretty much gets forgotten for anybody that isn't the leader of a unit. Even then it doesn't seem important as there is some sort of strategy to level the playing field.
Spoiler

Use more people to gang-up on the dude

[collapse]

The last gripe is that the MC is getting really strong abilities but doesn't seem to know how to use them.

Spoiler

He can absorb other peoples energy when he kills people or is attacked which makes him stronger. He should be constantly slaughtering but doesn't seem to use it much anymore.

He also gets 'psychic energy' which is really rare and can be used to control animals and ens*ave/attack people. He doesn't seem to be doing sh*t with it. There's a massive thing with bird scouts which he could take advantage of but hasn't seem to thought of anything.

This is not a perfect webnovel, but still a good read.

Although MC will frustrate reader by his loyalty to the point of s*upidity.

It seems author like the idea of incompetent emperor but prevent MC to take over the throne at all cost.

MC always has the option to become assassin and take care all his problem in less than a year, but author forced MC to handle all problem with military and politic.

Deserve 5 star at the beginning but slowly became 3 star.

An interesting novel based heavily on existing historical data with a creative license to spice things up, However it is a little lacking and feels very monotonous to read. 4/5

This is a fantastic novel for people that are into smart mcs, scheming and political games. The world building and progression of the novel is wonderful. The author knows his strengths and weaknesses; he is not particularly adept at writing about war (there haven't been any major ones yet) and knowingly avoids trying to bs the readers. Simply wonderful novel.

It is a really interesting series where the main character crosses to another world and then becomes a great commander, however fails to save the world. Destiny gives him another chance and the story follows his training, and the battles both physical, economic and psychological that he participates in to ensure that he will win this war a the second time.
