The Husky and His White Cat Shizun

Description

Mo Ran thought becoming Chu Wanning’s disciple was a mistake.

His shizun was really too much like a cat while he himself was a dumb pup who’d only slobber and wag his tail.

Dogs and cats were different by nature; originally, the dumb pup didn’t want to reach his furry paws out to that cat.

At first he thought, dogs should be with dogs, like his shixiong, beautiful and tame like a cute Japanese Spitz, and the two of them together would surely be a match made in heaven.

Yet, after having died and reborn, after having lived two lives, the one he hauled back each time to his den in the end was always the one he couldn’t stand at first: that snow-white kitty shizun.

This book really isn't for the faint of heart.

Listen, I'm an angstmonger and I thought I could handle all this angst but like... ... more>>
Spoiler

Chapter 97 really slapped me across the face and called me out on my hubris. Holy shit, Meatbun. I still haven't forgiven Meatbun for that... and then Chapter 104. Jesus Christ.

[collapse]

I've been spoiled (?) somewhat with some of the events and revelations. Before reading this book from the start, I had come across someone's translation of chapter 279 and like... I didn't even know who these characters were back then and I still cried. so like.

I have 100 chapters to go and I'm kind of scared, haha. Gonna edit this review once I read through those.

Spoiler

Were 208-209 the last of the consensual ppp chapters... I hope not... god.

I liked the story and humour. But mostly angst. I often read angst but this is emotional awkwardness overdone. Too much pain. Right now it feels like a love triangle with MC stuck in the middle like a s*upid

I knew that Asian novels are very emotional but never imagine to this extent. Someone recommended this as my first Asian bl story. To my horror, it had 311 chapters and had to spend almost a month to finish it!!!

What can I say about this; It has a very good plot. Main couple's love-hate relationship was unbelievable. I hated the abusive part of them. But it makes sense why Mo Ran acted like that and the author use this trick as a gain of fans pity for Chu Wanning. So... more>> who can blame for that matter?

Even sub-characters also obtain our concern for them.

In the end, I couldn't hate many of the villains in this story. Because they had their reasons to become like that. In my opinion, the main villain's death also a heroic move for his people.

Yeah, so I'm not going kill my friend for recommending this cause I enjoyed this roller-coaster riding and it didn't waste my time entirely! ;) <<less

alright now on to the actual review :)))

    1. the characters are literally so well crafted, especially mo ran, the. Character. Development. I literally can't. And just how the author develops everything, the relationships, the plot, its so masterfully done.
    1. how intricately the plot and the romance intertwine together!!!!!!!!!! There's no plot points that... more>> are useless, everything was written for a purpose and nothing feels useless. Cuz even if it does when ya first read it, like some 100 chapters later ya realize oh that was the purposeeeeeeeeeee skdfjsfdjsdfksdjfjsdjfgh
        1. CHU WANNINGGGGGg sjdfsjdfhsdfgsfshdj a literal blessing. Even if ya dont read it for the plot or the romance read it for chu wan ning ya definitely wont regret

If I have to say honestly, I dropped this novel many times and picked up again and again because this is written by author of "Yu Wu" which is one of my favourite of all time, so I trust the author. But up until the already translated over-130 chapters, the story was no interesting to me. And, I was wondering why everyone in review section are saying this is a great story while I found pretty boring.

But, after I skipped a lot, it become interesting when MC's past life was... more>> revealed. And, I got hooked up till the end and cried a lot.

Spoiler

may be because I started reading carefully when the story went back to Emperor, I like him more. When I saw some readers said that he didn't deserve happy ending and that ML really don't love him, I felt really bad and I want to stand for him. Gosh my heart hurts just thinking about someone saying bad things about him. Let me tell you, he's also part of Mo Ran, don't discriminate him.

[collapse]

My rating after completing is 5 stars. The only thing I found unsatisfying is that I want to see more of emperor personality in extras. <<less

In short, this story is simply incredible. If the greatest and absolute strength is the way in which it approaches human relationships without denying any facet, heroes are not pure, apparently cold people have a fragile self-esteem and self-loathing, the ties that bind the characters are changing and precious, and even villains have their own morals and justification (until the end I couldn't hate Shimei, everything he did was so wrong but at the same time he acted for the weak and helpless...). The evolution of the characters is slow,... more>> constant and wonderful. Prepare yourself psychologically to cry tears of blood as a deep love for the characters arises. 1vs1, HE guaranteed <<less

Honestly, this book is a rollercoaster. It made me wanna stab the dumb dog Mo Ran in the first 100+ of chapters but hug him to death toward the latter half yet still scold him like a mother. Meatball doesn't eat meat is a master at throwing knifes. Sometimes it's right in your face and other times- under some thousand layers. 2Ha made me cried until my pillows wet (I don't cry easily), smiled like I won a lottery, and feel a thousand other emotion that words can't describe.

Keep... more>> in mind that when reading this:

•Knifes are deadly

•Tissues U̶r̶g̶e̶n̶t̶l̶y̶ needed to be nearby

•Mo Ren is dumb and Shizun- too proud

•The narrator is unreliable

Final things to say about this novel is- give it a go, read it! You won't regret it. The translation is fantastic and the characters' (ranging from side to main) development is A+. I actually felt something alive as I read on. The Best novel I've ever read. <<less

Fu*k this novel. It made me cry my eyes out? I am someone who would laugh at any angst novel, but the author slapped this novel right on my face. And so unexpectedly, I have been like hyper sensitive to angst, I'll start tearing up with no context.

If you want a hardcore moving story with reasonable plot, angst and well built-up story line. This my friend is for you. I can never see stairs and watons with the same eyes.

I'm really looking forward to the live action just to bawl... more>> again.

And the character development of both the protagonists...... :'))))

I love them both sm :"))) <<less

Forget about the silly title, this is not a light read. There is drama (get ready a nice box of tissues). There is fluffiness, serious awwwww-heart-throbbing-fluffiness. There is some laugh, and enjoyment, and frustration, and angst. I am no fan of drama, the sad, depressing and desolate kind. This novel has drama, but leaves a nice aftertaste in your mouth, it is a kind of hopeful drama. Walk away if you cannot stand r*pe. Although r*pe is not taken lightly at all, you will suffer a bit here.

The novel starts... more>> quite cliche: after hellish life, protagonist reincarnates in his youth and vows revenge. End of cliche. From ch10 to ch100 you think you know where the story is going. The author will nicely prove you wrong - while slapping you in the face. Twice, just for good measure. From ch100 to ch210 ish you get a new idea, the new direction is clear. Lovely author will again prove you wrong - while stabbing you in the gut. A few times. With a saw knife. At some point on the last 40 chapters, tailspin, downhill with no brakes, I seriously had no idea of how the heck the end was going to be, except for great suffering and tears. When you though things could not be worse, adorable author rushed to prove you deadly wrong. I just had to brace myself, get the big box of tissues close and endure until the end. Had my BF staring at me for 2 long hours of snifs and sobs. The end does not feel rushed, just the sad emptyness of knowing a great story is ending.
Spoiler

Realistic HE like this one will heal your soul. After such a story, a too perfect HE would have tasted fake. They both live happily ever after: riddled with scars, kind of isolated, slightly misunderstood and with a few quirks, but together. Because they do not need more.

[collapse]

The plot is quite solid, round. I could not find inconsistencies.

The "unreliabe narrator" tag is spot on. Read carefully, this author lays the rules clearly, there are no lies, no tricks. The reader interprets, the characters interpret; be careful, do not be lead by the nose. Details are important, you are given clues, everything has an explanation. The problem lies in the fact that there is no "omniscient narrator". The story changes perspective: protagonist, master, family... You are provided a story seen through someone's eyes. And it could be quite different when seen through the eyes of another character.

Flower of hatred:
Spoiler

I do not think it is a plot hole but a necessary tool to the story. If the protagonist was truly evil, there is no way reincarnation is going to change the outcome and telling this story is meaningless. If the people around the protagonist truly mistreated him as he though they did, he would be a righteous villain and the novel would become another of those reincarnation-righteous-revenge stories. Plenty of those around. The crux here is: What if things were never as we tought they were?

[collapse]

The characters are 3 dimensional, rich, with personalities, flaws, strenghts...

The main character is absolutely dog-like: will hate to death those who hurt him, will love to death those who give him a bone. The master is also cat like: aloof, cold exterior, but misunderstood. Cats avoid too much social interaction and closeness, but they all love cuddles and affection. Even secondary characters are well defined, not deeply, but enough for the need.

Villains in this novel are particularly "good". There is a solid reason why thet do what they do, you can emphatize. Heck, is some cases I might have done the same!! Makes you wonder, what is fair, what is just. The while lotus is particularly... Do not have an exact word for it.
Spoiler

SM was the most bland 2D character of all, until you learn the truth and the blandness makes sense. You must be a deep psycopath to live 24h a day and for years with the people you are manipulating and planning to butcher, and still maintain a perfect deep loving facade. If you get to that level of psycopathy, it would be noticeable somewhere else. Better to seem a soft, introverted, bland character. Pleople will suspect you either way, but will probably get the wrong idea.

[collapse]

There are a few good-deep-to-the-bone characters. No saintly good, it is just the way they are, their personalities. They will end up covered in scars because of greed and selfishness, but that will not change their essence. Because some people are simply born good. But at least they are not idiotic-saintly-good and they do not offer the other cheek, they are realistically good.

I particularly enjoyed the raw treatment of greed and selfishness that is so common in chinese novels. So many novels filled with greedy antagonists, greedy protagonists, selfish everyone. Everyone seems to be entitled to do whatever they f*ck want just because, no matter what, when, where or over whose blood and tears. Stepping over those below, licking the boot of those above while calculating how to usurp. At some point I started thinking it was a cultural difference, that it was socially allowed and encouraged. Don't get me wrong, in Spain we have our fair share of selfish greedy as**oles, but excesive greed that damage others, that is something socially punished. People are greedy and selfish, and such behaviours cannot be forgiven or promoted. In this story, greed and selfishness are portrayed as they are: disgusting, despicable, animalistic. And as reality, life is unfair, and sometimes there is no karmik retribution for such behaviour or way to save those wronged.
Spoiler

Broke my heart the part about Linan city, Chu Xun and his family.

[collapse]

I also enjoyed the treatment of preconceptions and judgement. Some people only feel better when they think they are superior. And for that purpose, they will attach their flaws onto others. The higher and more perfect some might seem, the worst dirty secrets they will think are hidden. Do never judge others if you have not heard their side of the story. Most people are born normal, there are not natural evils.

There are quite the steamy parts. The author almost manages to makes us taste the s*xual tension. Not only talking about pure sex: both characters adore each other and at the same time are seriously turned on with each other. Forget about 50 Shades of Grey, that is not love or desire, this is.
Spoiler

Specially enjoyed ch100-170, when the protagonist is continuously reminding himself not to lust over his Master, chanting "respect, respect, respect..." And the Master melting and drooling over the protagonist at the same time... LMAO

[collapse]
The good part is that torture or r*pe are not taken lightly, as in many other novels. You can see the mixed feelings, you can feel the misunderstandings, but r*pe is still r*pe. Always been a feminist and s*x is a duet, not a solo. There is pleasure in giving pleasure, in sharing, in trusting. One sided pleasure is, again, selfishness.

Absolutely recommendable, added to my all-time favs, will surely re-read a few times (maybe skipping some angst depending on my mood). Hooked me completely, worth every tear. <<less

I'm just

I've read this novel twice. And I hate rereading books because they lose their first impression value. But this. This novel, after reading it for the first time, made me so broken that I would just think why?!! For long periods of time. 6 months after the first time, I began to miss it. But I was too scared to open it up and begin reading it again. The emotions I felt the first time were so overwhelming that I would literally just spend 30 minutes on my bed, or the bus wondering whether I should whip out my phones and just read it. Then one day, I was like f*ck it, I'm gonna read it >: (So I did. Let me tell you, that was the best and worst decision I had ever made, because damn, the emotions hit me so hard but I noticed the finer details as well, which left me unnerved at the intricacy.
Spoiler

Especially in chapter 279 when Mo Ran dies

This book so beautifully written and the character development is absolutely sensational. Do I feel empty, dead on the inside, at a loss of what to do now except have a sudden urge write a review at 3 in the morning? Of course I do!

PLOT: 5/5

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: 5/5

REREAD VALUE: 3799/5

Excuse me while I drown myself in 2HA content.

Aish... I missed the seme protagonist tag ?

I don't wanna read this but do far it's sooo interesting that I feel that I'll think about it even in dreams thus I've to read it ?

ML truly pitiful, usually in rebirth story like this protagonist would have realized his fondness to ML or at least not held him in contempt so maliciously in the rebirth world. In other cases, he would have see that ML is a tsundere but no this novel works on its background story so meticulously that I... more>> hope when protagonist realize the truth, he'll grovel on his knees with heartache, even my heart wrenched when I saw ML injustice and jealousy. He must have been very hurt (body and soul) till the end of his previous life but still stubbornly stay with ML ?

Any less than that, I'll butcher protagonist myself in my end review ?

How I wish ML has hidden admirer so protagonist will suffer more, yeah I'm that vengeful to this s*um dog. <<less

At first I love this story so much. It keep me addicted to it. But as the story goes, this is just personal opinion, it gets a bit boring. Although the plot was really interesting enough. It just that I don't really like the personality development of MoRan. If I compare it with other BL novel I have read, I prefer MDZS and HOB from Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. Boring because maybe it's not to my own expectation so I want to finish it faster. And there's no lasting effect... more>> after I'm done reading it.

The tragedy in this novel is pretty tragic. It was so heartbreaking. So that's one of the reason I get hooked with this. Well not everyone like a tragic story. But I a bit melancholic person, so this type of novel is pretty much my cup of tea. Prepare your tissue.

I recommend this story. For this novel has many fans and is already being planned to make a live drama. <<less

What a rollercoaster of emotions!!! I cried hard ┗ (T﹏T) ┛. I love how even tho MC is living his life once again he's not overly powerful all of a sudden and how brilliantly the plot is paced!. It's so different then other relive novels, here the MC doesn't know exactly whats going to happen next cuz he's come from future, this lifetime is very dufferent than his past one. Everything is revealed slowly keeping us on edge ლ (´ڡ`ლ).

I'm checking for updates every day!! (⊙... ⊙)

I have very conflicting emotions about this story. The plot is interesting and well-written, one of the best Chinese novels I have read, but... but... my heart really can't take it any more!!!! I am reading stories for entertainment, not to bleed on the inside while slowly sinking into depression. And the worst part is - I really don't want to drop it, because it's way too good!

Basically, if you don't want to be torn between dropping a very interesting book and having your heart dug out, don't start this novel.

I am putting this novel on hold until I get back home to my family and closest friends. Also, no more than 10 chapters a day. Now, I need to find some warm fluff to cover the bleeding... more>> gash on my heart. <<less

Well, it's one of the best novels I've ever read.

For me, the emotions I feel while reading a novel are of great importance. There are numerous artworks that made me want to cry, whail and bury myself to never feel that pain again. There were other things that I found interesting, but their impact was inferior to those that hurt me.

And 2ha was the one that amused me the most. It's a really outstanding novel. I've never experienced so many positive emotions. I felt irritated, astouned and ashamed for mc's... more>> actions at the same time.

Maybe it's due to MC and ML being a bit (or not a bit) dumb I can't take the plot drama seriosly. But still I really want to kick Mo Ran out of the milky way.

And the last thing... Xue Meng, don't cry, I really root for you beating Mo Ran up one day. <<less
