The Legendary Mechanic

Description

What do you do when you wake up and find yourself inside the very game that you love?

What do you do when you realize you that you have not only become an NPC – you have even been thrown back in time to before the game even launched!

What will happen when our protagonist’s two realities coincide?

Han Xiao was a professional power leveler before his transmigration. Using his past life’s knowledge, Han Xiao sweeps through the universe as he prepares for the arrival of the players. This is definitely not your typical transmigration novel.

For me the novel is amazing, and will probably get better but they're some things I don't agree with. For one, the author can't properly articulate the emotions of the MC. You can't tell if he's actually nervous, or acting so. It's like he's either cares or follows the system to act like he does. I'm even confusing myself.

Another point is how people of his world react to players from the real world, it's like they don't notice these immortal omniscient people among them who treat the rest like fakes/npcs.

I... more>> think it will be solved later but other than that, I agree that this is an amazing novel to read and you won't get bored at all.

Edit: the immortal thingy was solved. <<less

This novel is based on the MMORPG EVE Online like the English-original The Gam3, just that the protagonist here transmigrated into an NPC. As such, the mix of his con-artist persona, coupled with his production class, and the need to stay ahead of the players makes it a fun, fast-paced adventure of someone remodeling the original story line with equal focus on player and non-player characters.

A few reviews praised that there is no no romance. This may be true but this is still basically a shonen with harem subtext. Meaning,... more>> there are a lot of female side characters, so every important group of people include a woman, on whom the focus usually falls on, with either positive or negative interest in our protagonist. So even if it is not a guarantee, being a female beauty is still strong plot-armor for side characters.

Translation varies between good and tolerable only as the original text is not always preserved but shortened and paraphrased instead. <<less

Good at the start but goes downhill really fast.

Nationalistic view - Only China is good.

Players are only useful to MC for harvesting money and experience. Later on the story, they have almost no screentime, and they are basically useless most of time.

Most characters are unrealistic specially in compromising with the MC.

Even Gamers of the Underworld are many times better than this. Mmm.. Maybe I'm just spoiled by Game of the World Tree.

This is a decently good story that I have reread multiple times before.

World building:

As the story progresses, the world we are introduced to expands more and more. At the start, it was slightly confusing, but it won't affect your understanding of the story much. The world-building isn't very in-depth and explains just enough for you to get a rough idea about the world's background. There are a few plot holes about who the game devs are and why no actions were taken when the game's story (We know how... more>> it is originally played out from the MC) went off course.

Story telling:

The story itself felt a little slow at the start but picked up speed once MC reached B grade and began intefering with the more important storylines. Most of the story had a clear direction of where the MC was going to become stronger which is though hunting NPC's story lines. I had assumed at the start of the story that the players would contribute more to the story but towards the end, the players are essentially exp generators and cannon fodder.

The 'NPCS' in the game are actually well written in intresting (At least for the main NPCS) and slowly what felt like fake characters did start growing on me with their growth.

Throughout the story the MC is always busy doing something which keeps you hooked on the story wanting to know what happens next. Conflics are also well thought out though without any seemingly braindead characters finding trouble for no reason.

MC:

The main character Han Xiao comes off as a rational and smart person who doesn't act solely based on emotions. There are some well thought off plans that he makes weighing the pros and cons. There isn't any super deep schemes seems majority of the novel he treats the NPCS as well... NPCS. His definetly on the morally gray side who sees nothing wrong in killing or making use of others if needed. He does do good and isn't a psycho, showing care for those he is close to. But whether it is out of the NPC importances or geniune care I'm not sure.

Opinion:

Overall it's a good read without any major glaring annoyance to point out. Hardly any romance except for the main Female lead NPC which I feel his IQ slightly lowered when interacting with her. It is one of the few things I didn't like. But since the romance is more of a subplot it didn't bother me too much. Final arc did feel a little rush which the plot felt rushed and forced but still gave a clear explaination about his transmigration and most of the overarching questions answered. With how shameless and comedic the MC is, the story doesn't feel overly stale and gives a good laugh.

In the end it's a good novel to read when you have nothing to do but don't expect anything deep or meaningful from the story like the purpose of life or whatnot. <<less

Oof, hard with this one. I'd rate it 7/10, which is exactly between 3 and 4. Put 4 simply because there are lots of way worse works, I guess, but it's not really a 4/5 novel.

Cool parts:

Worldbuilding. The lore is rather deep, interconnected, and interesting. One of the best parts of the novel.

Spoiler

Oh, except there is a weird thing where it's never explained who tf are devs of the game...

[collapse]

Power progression. Well, if you wanna MC getting stronger all the time - this is a good novel for that. He has interesting combo of abilities, aren't dumb so he uses things correctly, etc.

Issues I had:

Players. Right, you might think based on the beginning that MC will talk/interact with players a lot, but in reality most personal relationships disappear past first third of the novel, which is kinda a shame. Right, since I started with players, ->

Tournaments. They are so pointless. There's no real plot connected to them, author just wanted to jerk off China and readers from there, that's all.

Translation. It's not that bad, but don't expect anything more. Typical low word pool, overused structures, etc etc.

---

In conclusion, it's a decent read <<less

If you want to read a novel about an absolute badass of MC, this one is for you.

The story and the scope of it is quite good and the ending is one of the best there is in this genre.

Knowing the ending, I can't comment about many things, but as I told you - like me, you like badass main characters?

Then it is for you and it won't be a mistake and you won't be wasting time reading it.

Quite a gem. Excellent throughout; well planned ahead, perfectly consistent, very logical, insightful and political, well-balanced magic systems, exceptionally written side characters, etc. Everything just feels whole and complete and when mentioning praise, it would just stack on and on.

There are also remarkably almost no logic flaws I could see, which is very, VERY rare for long novels (for any novels, in fact).

The first part is quite excellent and I feel the entire thing is worth reading though if I ever reread I feel I would stop after the mutation crisis.

The world-building is solid, the writing is adequate, there are some really great moments. The main character is amusing and although his competence is above everyone else his opponents up until he gets to Calamity Grade are challenging and interesting. The power creep is done amazingly well and you never feel like much of it is too arbitrary.

I'm not sure if it's... more>> a translation thing, but there are many instances where they'll use "however" when "moreover" makes more sense. Similarly in the first third or so, there are many times where the text will describe things as being unfortunate for a person or group when they're actually fortunate. Also, not sure if it's a Chinese thing, but there's just a lot of knocking on desks and tables as part of conversation.

The author does seem to have some sort of hang-up with NTR/cuckolding as things are frequently compared to that in analogies. There is a tag for romantic subplot but it's so understated as to be nonexistent for the first 1000 chapters. The author easily could have made the MC entirely ace and even hinted that he was ace multiple times before the romance happens. Even after it happens, it is infrequently a part of the story and rarely shows anything.

There is a harem-tease for a while, and lots of women fall for the MC and apparently stay single. Honestly, with how understated the romance was, people could easily make the argument that the same thing is happening with everyone though that doesn't seem to be the author's intent. Nearly every one of those characters I just ended up feeling bad for. Like, wow, you've dedicated your life to this.

And that's for the characters you even see what happens to. Many characters disappear abruptly and only are mentioned once every few hundred chapters if at all.

I enjoyed the entire story and I do not think the ending was rushed or a butt-pull. After a certain point though, there seemed to be basically no stakes, no surprises, and everything just seemed inevitable.

There's a lot of great fodder for fanfics here that I think could easily exceed the story in satisfaction and enjoyment for many.

Really good sci-fi / fantasy world-building.

If this had a LN title, I feel like it would be, "Becoming the Strongest Person in the Galaxy via My Pyramid Scheme". <<less

The idea of NPC as MC is really good and hard to find (with good story).

Though the story is great it has many loose ends and a lot of things unexplained. Maybe there will be a sequel? Or that's what the writer planned? But I think it would have been way better to just write this one with everything.

Nonetheless it is a good novel with an interesting trope with was fun to read.

Wish the romance part was done well which kind of ruined it for me as I like my... more>> stories to have romance. <<less

I personally think this novel is a pretty good one. The characters are kinda shallow but the world building and combat are pretty good. I very much enjoyed the ending too, one of the best in its genre.

Top 3 shameless MC I have ever met in a funny way. I just love him

The references are all over, one piece, gundam, ultraman, pokemon, hell you name it. The dirty jokes that was said without blushing. Scheme against you then laugh at your face then try to rip you off again. Never does thing without benefits, while a whole bunch of ppl think hes kind, he would just nod and accepts it and makes you owe him more. Would praise himself and accept praises without blinking. He's somebody I... more>> would like to be friends with.

The stats information really kills me, I can't remember everything when it covers 3/4 of a chapter, I think 3/5 of the novel is covered by starts when MC gets new skills and upgrades. Jesus Christ I will never forget this novel just because of this

I love the interactions with players early on, as the level differences gets more uptrend, it became less and less. Wish the players get to play more of a important role like early on and interactions more than just be used as farming EX.. The players are pretty funny and good in general, really realistic.

MC levels up so fast and easy, there's no specific end goal in the novel, just watch him going through the game plots as he build his army and becomes stronger every time.

Around the time MC steps into Central universe Vs the big 3 civilizations it becomes repetitive and that where it feels the novel lost momentum. Players gets less involve and MC just does everything on his own and army isn't needed anymore. EX farming is not needed in general.

I just loves this novel, It will have a place in my heart, the ending really left me wanting more about the real world and MC's facing his own world with the choice he made <<less

Took a bloody long time to finish. Prepare your month if you want to get into this story.

Good read though. I've read pretty much every novel of interest and picked this one up reluctantly as it was about mechanics and I thought it would be some typical mech garbage. Luckily for me, mechs are pretty much non-existant. Sure, there's like, 30 chapters about it, but that's about it. They use robotic suits, but it's barely mentioned it's basically armour.

I'd love an afterstory though, the way it ends leaves me wanting... more>> to know how it progresses, at least a tiny bit more ;) <<less

Well, I finished the whole story from beginning to end all 1463 chapters, when normally I get bored easily and switches reading material fast.

The story is well planned and the world and character buildings were interesting. The main character himself unfortunately did not really grow in character, but was definitely very entertaining to read.

The story was a bit slow in the fist few hundred chapters, but got more and more intriguing as the plot developed.

An important point to note is that the translation was done well too. Only in the... more>> later chapters toward the end that unfortunately I found a bit of typos, formatting errors, and 1 or 2 accidental repeating sections. However it was still easily understood and did not detract from the reading experience.

Overall I think this was worth reading and have enjoyed it from start to finish. <<less

personally the one of my best reads mainly thanks to the translators who made little errors. I read this ages ago but I still remember the reading experience being one the best; w each chapter update the community on wuxiaworld would flood the comments. My view is biased.

the only thing I disliked or wished for more is hila/aurora & hx development but the author focuses very little on romance and hx's interpersonal relationships. We know very little of hx before his transmigration and what led him to have his guarded... more>> and calculative mindset even till the end.

i think the early start of the novel is one of the greatest ones, especially the junkyard fight. I literally cant recall anything since its been years but I just remember it being memorable.

the stats are consistant which I liked very much. Sometimes thered be 10% page long character stat page which I personally enjoyed.

i suck at reviews but I found it enjoyable to read in my time as a teenager <<less

I really enjoyed this novel and the only comment I had was that it felt a little too short. I really figured that it should’ve been longer with how it kept alluding to future updates of the game, however I can also see why it ended where it did due to the power level the MC eventually got to. All around a solid novel and I really liked the in game leveling and power system. My one comment is that the ending felt rather abrupt and confusing but that’s rather... more>> commonplace in my opinion for most novels. <<less

This is pretty good novel with a pretty good story and quiet enjoyable read.

It's a bit too much MC-centric in which it almost if not all event happens around the MC and other characters look too much like a side character with only a few with particular quirk the rest is pretty much one dimensional.

The MC is a lone-wolf so if you don't like it you don't like it, he's a pragmatic that build his own group for his 'own benefits' unlike so many others MC who instead slaving for... more>> said group for the benefits of other, he's goal oriented, shameless, toxic gamer, cynical, excel at business relation but not heavily pursuing personal bond (not the close buddy2 do gooder type).

The power progression is interesting, he has enhanced player system with longer game-time, the fictional technology aspect is pretty good, a bit too heavy on info dumping but still readable.

My only gripe in this story is the writing style, it's not the way but content of that style, the jokes can be treated as difference in culture but the metaphor he insert is really making him too much of a creep, his MC isn't really interested in romance because he got the priority straight but godamn he's one hell of a pe*verted creep. <<less

I really liked this.

This is one of the first CN novels I really got into.

The first tens of chapters were really good and got my full attention. Mind blown. Then I kept on reading and reading and reading. BUT

honestly really when he went out of Earth. My excitement wasn’t as much as in the first 100s chapters. Was it that the plot wasn’t as compelling as it was at first or the world building was getting bad? I don’t know. But I lost interest and dropped it. I can’t really... more>> explain why. I guess it was so chaotic all the time.

Welp. Though I dropped it I’ll leave a 4 stars for now. :Ppppp <<less

One of my favorite stories of all time, I'm currently rereading it. There are things I don't like about it, but overall I really enjoyed this story. One thing I will say is that I think the story only really hits its stride around chapter 600 or so when he hits a certain power level. The ending is great too.
