To save the hopeless Dark Fantasy World, I held back my tears and destroyed the world, then killed the Demon King and returned.

Now, I’m trying to save the world using the “System” I gained as a “Regressor’s Privilege”… But the Main Heroines have also awakened their own memories of the previous timeline.

God damn it.

Yeah so somwhat interesting premise, but hard to take seriously in its execution. Basic plot is that MC has found a prophecy from his isekai'd ancestor that gave him a certain path to beat the demon lord and reach the ideal end of his story (which is probablu a game story or something in ancestor's world; idk, it's kept somewhat vague in details, because we only get MC's perspective, and he's a native). Problem is that part of this involves becoming a villain and destroying the world in one timeline... more>> then regressing and doing everything right. His cadre of heroines were screwed over by him in his villain run but then regressed back with him for his hero run. So they are all trying to kill him hence the title. Thus, MC has to do the nessesary events, fight the demon lord's forces, and gather macguffins all while alluding the heroines.

Alright sounds somewhat interesting. The problem is that the route he's on is set by his system, and the rules it sets are contrived and completely arbitrary. The big one is that it halves his life force everytime somebody finds out he's not a piece of shit. Why? Well just so the novel can have its drama. There is no satisfying, well-thought-out, or immersive reason for the personal drama and conflict. It's all just brute force thrust upon us by all the weird rules of MC's system.

This is when systems in series are at their worst. I don't always hate them. In fact, they can be useful ways to shorthand the power scale in the universe, but it shouldn't be out dictating the plot in a way that substitutes for any organic reasons that characters act the way they act. It just seems lazy.

The main draw of the series also seems to be this victim/messiah complex narrative built around the MC. The story portrays him as like literal Jesus who is forced to do shitty things, be hated, and suffer. It lacks subtlety. Though it is pretty common in these things for the MC to be a bland archtype rather than a real character, it is another level of grating when the novel outright plays up this "oh he's so noble yet so persecuted" thing.

Well those are my complaints. There are some positives though. The girls are alright. They act reasonably for their circumstances. One of them is especially smart and pulls an interesting gambit. There are too many of them stealing away each other focus and screentime, but that's just the harem genre.

The designs are also cool, though for a novel I guess that's not so important.

I didn't know whether to rate this a 2 or 3, but I ultimately figured that among the sea of novel slop out there, this at least deserves a 3 for trying to have a somewhat interesting atarting premise. The execution is just bleh though. <<less

This was one of the best novels I read on this site. The plot, story writing, and emotions had me hooked. There were even times I cried... Cried in a freaking harem novel!!! That's how good the characters were written! However, the key words were was and were.

The first few arcs of the novel were phenomenal, by far one of the most interesting reads I had on the site. However, after somewhere in the c30s, the Novel's quality suffered a huge pitfall. Soon all the plots and events were very... more>> forced and illogical. Often coming with many plotholes or way too strong of plot armors.

From this point in the novel, every character has had character development... that is except for the MC. And if anything, he's gone through a Regression of development, as every point now he spends paragraphs debating and crying. Hence the novel has gotten very repetitive. It's many times worse with the very hard forced plotline events happening from there too. And the novel is suffering from a lack of male characters, every valuable new character being introduced is yet another harem target... as there are sub heroines.

Throughout all of this reading too you'll notice that the MC could've just used his future knowledge to do many things. He could've also decided to stop being the Villain as
Spoiler

he finds out that there are many holes from what the prophecy said it would, and learns of other secrets.

[collapse]
However, he forces himself to keep endlessly suffering. It's gotten to the point were from every chapter is purely built to emphasize the MC's sufferage, heroines concerns, and tragedy. No main plot. No development. As the story started to get extended like the story was originally planned for a much shorter chap count but they decided to extend it to milk the money. You can tell by how the MC already reached his breaking point which I'd argue was the climax (somewhere in 30s), and hence forth, 35 chaps later, there has been zero actual progression.

One might argue that "Oh but if they know he's not s false Villain then he'd die!", but it was stated that he could walk away from it anytime he wanted to. The system is also only going off false evil, so if he's a hero from the start he'd still have the system though in unupgraded form. All the system "buffs" to help him with this 2nd playthrough have also really not helped him at all so far, other than saving himself from the 5 heroines who've Regressed with him. So the system is really just a redundant mechanic that only has been nerfing the MC. He's so strong that he could even easily beat the 2nd in command of the demon army which he had done, but due to the system his has many nerfs on him, and this caused him to be weaker due to the life force amount for example.

Another reviewiee claimed that every person who've 5starred this and loved the novel must be a masochist, and I agree. There is no way you'd think this novel is acritically acclaimed when the whole story is to focus on how pitiful and sad the MC, with countless filler prolonging with zero actual developmemts after the first few main arcs.

To make it even worse, to enhance the filler and have more content to write filler content on to not progress the plot, many confusing things were also introduced from after the MC reached his breaking point. <<less

As of right now I'm on chapter 42. While I do like the premises and such I give a 2.5-3/5 it has some flaws, but generally overall good.

The writing is where the problem is, there's no building up in some chapters. It just gives you a backstory in one chapter with a slam dunk and expect you to feel something, and it does that a couple of times with two of the characters, and it's only chapter 42!

You can honestly relate with the main character as it's been told through... more>> his point of view and you can understand his feelings behind it. But I don't know, the writer tries to bring out emotional scenes and it just falls short.

Therefore I can only give it a 2.5-3/5. Just above average.

Characters - 3.5/5

Writing - 2/5

Plot - 3/5

World building - 2.5/5 <<less

To summarize, the story revolves around Raon, who assumes a villainous role to earn points from his system. These points are crucial for his goal of saving the world. As a result of his acting, he strains his relationships with the people around him. I'll be listing out the pros and cons of this story. Read this to know what you'll be reading.

Pros

    • Character Development: Throughout every major and minor arc and event, the characters experience continuous growth in their emotions, goals, and interpersonal relationships. With their knowledge of future events, they engage in a constant battle of wits, deception, and half-truths, leading to intense emotional conflict among heroines. As a result, they begin to grasp a broader perspective and uncover clues about the truth of Raon.
    • Plot: The story unfolds smoothly without feeling contrived, the MC and the heroines struggle to achieve their respective objectives, encountering information that challenges their initial perception of their reality. Answers are gradually unveiled as the story progresses, culminating in side stories that enrich the narrative with barely any plotholes (if i've ever seen one).
    • Chapters are substantial in length.
    • Translation is top tier with their custom system prompts. It feels as though reading a RoyalRoad litrpg.
Cons

    • The world depicted is overly polarized between good and evil, especially among the nobility, which feels exaggerated and could benefit from more nuanced portrayals for a better realism.
    • This is a con and a warning, the System may come across as rather frustrating. Its very design compels the MC to act out a pathetic third-rate villain persona in order to save the world. Some of you might find this cheap, some of you might be irritated by this, and some of you may not simply like this. It is the very premise of what the novel is based on.

Excellent read. When characters get their redemption arcs, you can feel their sincerity and suffering and making their road to absolution well deserved. The twists do hit you where you wouldn't expect, thus enhancing the whole experience. There are some hiccup, such as how the author handled the epilogue, or sometime you may feel the theme/suffering p*rn is being overdone quite a bit; but in general the pro far outweigh the con.

I loved this series, I consider this my second favorite harem series just after Sevens. However everything went crashing after everything became R-18. I am happy that MC have a happy ending and he and the heroines deserved it but what the hell are those s*x scenes, everything was too descriptive that even reading in MTL, everything was very clear. MC is basically f**ing everyone (the eleven heroines) just before the end. The shift is very weird.

The Main Heroines Are Trying to Kill Me blends fantasy, psychological elements, and romance into an intricately woven story that keeps readers guessing. Protagonist Frey Raon Starlight must walk the hidden "Path of False Evil" to save the world, which requires betraying the heroines and destroying everything first.

This morally gray premise creates heavy emotional drama, as Frey commits unforgivable acts despite caring for the heroines. Their hatred of him is understandable, making their eventual redemption and romance more impactful. Frey is a complex character, neither overpowered nor incompetent, just doing... more>> what he must under tragic circumstances.

The mystery-laden plot masterfully subverts expectations with unpredictable twists and turns. The game-inspired setting adds uniqueness, though the stark black-and-white morality at times stretches belief. Supporting characters feel realistically flawed and multifaceted. The slowly built romances avoid instant love cliches.

While the early chapters establish the framework, the writing improves dramatically as the story progresses. Descriptions are vivid and immersive. Translators receive praise for high quality work capturing the author's skill.

For those seeking an unpredictable story capable of eliciting both tears and excitement, with a flawed but sympathetic protagonist and emotionally resonant relationships, The Main Heroines Are Trying to Kill Me delivers an unforgettable reading experience once it hits its stride. Just be prepared for devastating lows on the way to the satisfying payoffs. <<less

It is a unique story with the good writing and translation.

Basically tragic fantasy story based on hero and demon king.

But it is not that simple here to see what is different you have to read this.

... more>> Story starts with your usual regression.

Good pace with different approach to fantasy stories.

MC is smart and capable enough due to his mental strength.

although I hate the genre of harem still I loved how the author included it in and yet still made it one of the best written novels.

MC is quite the character he suffers a lot and yet still continues and pushes forward with passion, he stills keep trying to make the people around him happy on the cost of his own happiness and although u might hate the heroines at the beginning but you will quite like them as the story progresses.

I hope you give it a try.

Though it depends on your taste of story that you like this or not. <<less

It kinda has the same emotional impact as a wet rag. The main character doesn’t wallow in self-pity, but he does feel ‘guilty’ as the only emotion throughout the novel.

The heroines hate his guts, and he doesn’t give them a reason not to as the synopsis suggests.

The main flaw of the novel is the way everything is presented.

... more>> You get a short description of who the heroines are, some character moments of the heroines, but not much going on for the main character, who has only one gimmick.

He consistently repeats the same actions for several chapters, and I can tell this is all there will be until the end of the novel.

The main gripe you gotta get over in chapter 1 is that he had zero doubt that his ancestor’s legacy was right. He doesn’t admit it, but he believes he’s in a game.

If not, how was he certain a System would pop out after ruining the world?

Too much vague descriptions for the main character’s own feelings is the problem. <<less

it is indeed interesting. I read the mtl in one seat. I just can say it is too convenient for the MC but for a fast read it is fun. I can't deny I spill some tears while reading the story that MC write even though I know it did not happened. It's a shame it still ongoing. Will probably come back to finish it when it's completed.

Like the previous reviewer write, Yes the MC transmigrate as the villain. We don't actually know what he did since the author did... more>> not elaborate. But we can just assumed he did so many bad things that people start retaliating against him.

I, myself really enjoy ab*sed backstory and sacrificial story hence why I give this novel a high review

the only downside of it is how repetitive the filler character behavior and it seems like author didn't gave some of the character enough unique personality to feel like a proper character <<less

I don't know. At around chapter 30 right now and it's pretty frustrating to read.

Seems like the biggest enemy isn't really the demon king, but more like the system and sun god supposedly on the side of the MC. The system feels more like a curse than help to be honest. Really seems like the whole world exist for the sole purpose of tormenting the MC. Actually, I'm saying this as half a joke, but wouldn't be surprised if the demon king turns out to be a "good" guy all... more>> along, or a mid-boss and the real last boss is the system/sun god or some weird thing like that.

There are some issues here and there, but the writing is pretty good overall so I don't want to give a bad rating, but this thing is so frustrating to read. If the MC killed himself next chapter, it would feel like an happy ending. <<less

So I started this Novel, and my lord it was so hard. First 10-20 chs already made me immersed in it. I like Frey a lot, one of my Fav Protag of all time for sure.

the Female Characters are hella peak, Main Heroines + Sub Heroine all had good amount of screentime and development. There were multiple plot twist which I liked a lot.

one of my fav part were also the Segs scene, these were better than the other novel I read from Kim Mamo.

at the end all I can say is Give it a try, at least read till 50ch as story gets even more interesting at the point.

i havent read all Side stories so I dont know how it ends but there was just 1 disappointment or maybe it'll be solved in SS I havent read yet, and that is
Spoiler

Glare, as she is Minor so Frey wont do it with her or love her romantically. This is why Frey is good af. But at the same time I feel Sorry for Glare considering how much she did for Frey, she deserves everything she wants from him. That's why I personally want a TimeSkip in SS when Glare becomes an Adult and hope for a segs scene bw Frey & Glare, but ig it doesnt happen, cuz I saw the Rating of remaining Chs and None were 19+. So this disappointment might stay as a disappointment after I finish SS in the future

This is a fun romance fantasy time travel-type story where the protagonist, Frey, goes back in time to save the world. He's a good guy who's forced to play the part of a villain because the game-like System which enhances his powers and gives him a shot at saving the world puts a ton of restrictions on him. A lot of the story consists of tragedy as, due to acting like a villain, everyone in the country hates him, including many of his family members, friends, and love interests. The... more>> story lightens up in this aspect as it goes on because over time he gathers allies who one way or another find out about his secret, but with each person who finds out his secret, his lifespan is reduced by the System, leaving him with little time and causing him to become more and more of a glass cannon as the series goes on, becoming more powerful but also much more vulnerable. This keeps the stakes high even as he gets stronger. The plot of the story is quite interesting with the antagonist being a Demon King who is his opposite, playing the part of a hero in public while actually being the one who will end the world. Since both he and the Demon King have to keep their true identities secret, they are constantly in a battle of political maneuvering that keeps Frey on his toes as he slowly gathers the pieces he needs to save the world.

A lot of the focus of the story is on the romance. This aspect is a little weaker, and I usually don't enjoy harems, but here the girls involved are likable and well-developed. The harem also doesn't get excessively large, so each girl gets enough time in the spotlight to grow. And Frey goes through enough suffering that he's one of the few protagonists who actually deserves a harem tbh.

Overall this story is quite good and has maintained a consistent level of quality so far. The translation is about 3/5 of the way through the main story at this time. <<less

So I'm going to say it this is hard to read.

Not because it's bad or because it has cringey moments.

But because of how utterly depressing it is. This is a reincarnated as a villain story but without any of the laughs. He has to be hated, the people he loves have no idea his true goal and hates him for it. The few who do know can't help him.

... more>> Hell they can't even give the poor guy a hug.

He knows he will die has a hated individual, just so this world won't end, and the people he loves won't die again.

Story is amazing from what I read, but I don't think I can finish it the trauma conga line does not seem to stop anytime soon.

To start with, this is a harem novel, so if you don't like harems stay out of this one. Don't even think about reading this novel and then complain about it being harem and give it 1 star.

Now what I like the most about this novel would be the mistery and the drama. The more chapters you read, you'll notice that more and more things don't make sense. With every chapter the feeling that things are not what they seem increases more and more.

The drama of this novel I would... more>> say it's pretty heavy at times, but leaves a great sense of satisfaction when it gets resolve. You should be aware by now that this a pretty dramatic novel, although it gets resolves pretty much every time, it can be quite the burden at times.

The main character of this novel is pretty likeable, he would do everything if it means he can save even one more person. But will not hesitate at all to kill any kind of person or demon.

The main heroines are all likeable, some more than others. Although with so many female characters there are times when some of them get kind of forgotten. <<less

The story follows the protagonist, Frey, who is sent back in time with the mission to save the world from the demon lord. However, he is given a seemingly evil and unreliable system that forces him to keep his true identity a secret. This leads to a series of misunderstandings and conflicts with the main heroines, who initially view him as a villain.

The novel successfully challenges the common trope of keeping one's regression a secret by incorporating the "False Evil System" as a central plot device. This adds a layer... more>> of complexity and intrigue to the story, making it stand out amongst other similar works. The character development of both the MC and the heroines is well-executed, and the world-building, while not the strongest aspect of the story, is sufficient to support the overall narrative.

The plotting is quite strong and has a deep tangled mystery with many layers and from readers who have read ahead, it seems a lot of it will pay-off so I'm excited for that.

Overall, this novel offers a unique and engaging experience for readers who enjoy character-driven stories with a blend of tragedy, mystery, and fantasy elements. While it may not be for everyone, those who appreciate a fresh take on a familiar genre will likely find this story to be a rewarding read. <<less

I really quite liked this one. It knows its niche and performs well within it. I do admit, the novel does get a little bit too melodramatic at times, but I liked it every time the heroines said "I was wrong, forgive me Frey" even after the ten trillionth time.

Also, for a novel whose entire setup hinges on the few instances where the main heroines finding out that the MC isn't actually evil, it REALLY manages to have that happen many, many times. What I'm trying to say is, normally... more>> it would be just a one and done. The heroines find out, and that's that. The setup is over. But no, this novel circumvents the problem that everyone can only find out that the MC isn't evil once through all sorts of somewhat nonsensical and increasingly ridiculous ways.
Spoiler

For example, the novel takes time to showcase alternate timelines, many past regressions, simulations from a system, and such.

[collapse]
I liked it though.

I did end up reading it through MTL, which made my comprehension of the story and prose less good, to say the least. It doesn't help that the actual plot is kind of convoluted and really weird. Black Tail Fantasy as a game and the setting of the novel is just weird, and the way it interacts with Earth and the setting is also weird.
Spoiler

There's a physical debug room where you can just execute lines of code in the world. What does the author mean by that? Is the novel a simulation?

[collapse]
I just plainly did not comprehend a sizable portion of the plot. There's one moment which, had I properly understood what was happening, would have been a very satisfying and climactic moment. Instead, it unfortunately fell a little flat. I'm not going to criticize the novel for that, though. I think that's a me problem.

Also, as an aside, sometimes the novel just turns into actual smut. <<less

Time to finally write a review for this.

Genuinely good novel that takes the VERY common regressor trope of keeping it a secret- even when it would be outright advantageous to reveal it, and destroys it with the 'False Evil System'. I love nothing more than a creative work actually trying to challenge tropes, rather than just circumventing or accepting them.

Quick concept of the novel (only slight spoilers for c1-2)

Spoiler

MC learns that if he becomes evil and helps destroy the world (which is guaranteed to eventually occur anyway), he will be able to regress and gain the ability to save the world in a new timeline- but oh, wait- now you have characters (our 'Main Heroines') that have the same memories of the previous timeline, and the MC can't just do a 180 and say 'I was actually good all along!' due to the system punishing him for everyone who finds out. This fills a ton of plot holes before they even have the chance to start.

[collapse]

You might not like the MC because he's forced to hide his identity and powers (a trope this novel does NOT circumvent), and that's fine, but if this isn't an issue for you- then you have yourself a nice novel to read. <<less
