- Did not finish, do not recommend
- Didn't like it for several reasons
- Okay, satisfactory
- Pretty good read
- This is going on my lifetime favorites
Setting: 2/5- Classic corrupt nobility causing major classist discrimination. The main character is a poor orphan and becomes friends with a duke's daughter Leti who ends up chosen as The Brave, who goes on a grand adventure without him to slay the Demon King. The story tells the struggles of the lower class pretty well. The socio-political landscape isn't explored much at all despite politics, economics, and other public affairs being major focuses of the plot.
- The power system is not explained too well, all that really matters is that the Brave is really powerful both physically and magically, and the MC cannot use magic.
- Overall, glosses over key details while establishing the setting, 2/5.
Main Characters: 1/5- Main character, Wynn Byrd, is boring. The main plot driving motive of the MC is to become a knight, and starts off incredibly strong because of his dedication to practice every day. However, he's kind of written like he has no flaws other than he can't use magic and he is a commoner. I can't say that there is much character development because those two things aren't really issues that he can work towards improving in this life. It feels like the author kind of wrote himself into a corner with the MC.
- The side characters don't feel that important, just people to follow the MC around and either be like "Wow he's amazing" or "Ew he's a commoner who can't use magic".
- Leti as a concept is pretty interesting, but the author doesn't really do much with her because she's also kind of a Mary Sue - she's perfect other than she favors this commoner who can't use magic. The author briefly explores how someone who was forced to be a child soldier would be traumatically affected, but in the end, that idea isn't really delved into much at all and feels like a wasted opportunity to flesh out Leti's character. I would have liked to read about how someone in Leti's position really felt, but I guess this isn't Leti's story.
- Overall, very disappointing, 1/5.
Plot/Pacing: 1/5- The pacing is good, but god damn is the plot boring as f*ck, 1/5.
Overall Writing: 1/5- I think the author majorly f*cked up with the characters and ended up putting themselves in a situation where they couldn't write anything interesting with the characters because of how they're not written with the possibility of growth, 1/5.
Enjoyability Factor: 2/5
