The Obsessive Shou Moves On

In his previous life, Yun Qingci loved the Emperor more than life and death. When he was alive, he made soup and clothes for him, and in politics, he helped monitor his officials, even his family.

He was solely dedicated to the emperor, and all his scheming strategies were used to gain favour. He never borrowed his power as the Lord Empress to seek employment for his relatives, and he did not show favoritism. He can be said to be strictly impartial and incorruptible, not even recognizing his own family.

Outsiders were terrified of him, and relatives hated him, but Yun Qingci didn’t care. However, in the end, he was thrown into the cold palace by the only person he cared about and his whole family imprisoned.

Finally, he committed su*cide on that snowy day, and fell down that gilded tower.

Reincarnated, Yun Qingci retracted his claws, picked up the glass pieces of his heart, and conducted himself evasively in society. Acting as an escort to the Emperor for his relatives, he decided to become a proud Lord Empress that doesn’t need to be treasured or can have his status shaken.

Unexpectedly, the emperor who abandoned him like a shoe, praised by countless courtiers for both his virtue and kindness, suddenly changed his temper. He became cold and harsh, paranoid and cruel.

The servants who confronted Yun Qingci? He would beat them. The imperial concubines that provoked Yun Qingci? He’d punish them. A small person who framed Yun Qingci? He would kill him. When someone tries to approach Yun Qingci, he would become jealous to the extreme.

Soon everyone knew that Empress Yun was the emperor’s inverse scale. He was not allowed to be hurt, touched, or even looked at.

Yun Qingci, the fairy man, is speechless: So you like me not loving you, why didn’t you say that sooner?

I really don't have much to say about this other than I didn't really like it. I won't lie and say that I liked this story, because I did not have a fun time reading this. In fact, I have to commend the author for making a story I dislike so much. Dare I say that's the only reason it gets two stars from me—the author managed to perfectly craft a couple I just don't like, but they for sure deserve each other.

Personally, I really disliked the MC's behaviour. I... more>> could excuse the first dozen or so chapters with the MC's childish behaviour's, and constant need to disregard any kind actions the ML does to make up for what he has done. The only reason I could partially excuse it was because the two got married at such young ages, so I could understand why the MC was so possessive and childish in the past—'cause he was a teen. I can understand hating someone so viscerally for what they'd done, and maybe if he wasn't the ML I'd still hate him, but my GOD is the MC stubborn. Like, to such a point where I was genuinely wondering if there was even going to be any redemption at all for the ML. I had to draw a line though
Spoiler

when the MC got violent with the ML and hurt the ML. Like, no, I'm sorry, but I can't excuse it. Especially because of how it was portrayed like a child throwing a tantrum. If there was a greater reason behind it, then I'm all for revenge, but the ML was just trying to be helpful. Especially when the ML was trying to make sure the MC was warm when he slept in that clay making place, and the MC just reacted aggressively.

[collapse]

Another point of contention to me was the ML. I get it, you want to be with the MC, but you'd think he'd learn to give up after the MC literally says he doesn't want to see the ML ever again. You ruined the MC's life in his past life, remember that, and still have the audacity to want to live happily with the MC??? Even if the ML
Spoiler

heavily regretted everything he'd done, and suffered in the past timeline to try and bring back the MC in any way. He literally wants nothing to do with you?? Leave him alone?? And when he cut his own arm to show his love for the MC just like the MC had done before, I knew I couldn't like this story.

[collapse]

Though, the two of them make the perfect couple. They're both insane and make a great couple, 'cause I don't want anyone else to have to deal with either of them in a relationship. Really, that's the only reason—as well as the extras—that this story gets two stars from me. If you're into pure pain and suffering that makes you cry in a story, then this is the ideal story for you. If you like pain, followed by some comfort and warm couple moments, then this isn't it. I can see why others might like the story, especially since the writing really is good, but it's not for me. It's a story that tackles complex characters, and I can admire that for sure. I'm not the type of person though that can deal with such toxic relationships though, but at least it was mutual. Both the MC and ML are unlikable, but they're unlikable together. The author manages to perfectly take all the unlikable aspects of humans, and adds that realism of how someone might react in their situation. To that, I have to give the story credit. Did it make me like the story though? No, it didn't. It just wasn't my cup of tea. <<less

Spoilers ahead, but only minor ones. Major plot points will be under the spoiler window. I really liked one of the relationship dynamics in Rebirth: Degenerate s*ave ab*ses Tyrant and came here looking for something to scratch that itch. This book has every single thing I love: reborn shou who is trying to fix the mistakes he made in his past life, obsessive gong who previously treated the shou horribly and is now trying to win him back, and HE where they end up together. Still, I felt like the... more>> execution was slightly lacking (although it's also a relatively short book, so that could be the fault of my own expectations -- naturally, the plot can't get as extensive as a longer novel).

Things I liked:

    1. The ML is incredibly regretful about the way he treated the MC. He's traumatized by the MC's death and the second he gets a chance to start over, he immediately treats the MC better. The MC was previously also very in love with him, so the ML initially believes that he can win him back just by being nicer to him and paying him more attention.
    2. The MC does not initially reveal that he was reborn and lets the ML grovel.
    3. The MC and ML end up together and it feels like the MC didn't forgive him too quickly or too slowly. The pacing in their relationship worked out.
    4. The ML didn't intend to treat the MC badly, and loved him even from the beginning.
    5. The ML was smart enough to figure out that the MC was reborn without having to be told (and vice versa).
Neutral Elements:

    1. The ML is really possessive. Could be good or bad depending on your preference. MC handmakes a gift (ear-mufflers) for their mutual friend who has a crush on the MC, and the ML gets upset and forbids the MC from giving it to him. The MC decides to make another one instead and give that one to the friend. Later, the ML sneaks into the friend's house and steals the gift for himself. It's played off like a joke by the narrative.
    2. The MC isn't really a good person. He was very jealous and obsessive before the rebirth, killing servants that he thought were trying to get close to the ML. After, he keeps asking the ML to kill people for him. This is later justified, but the reveals only happen after the MC already has him do it.
    3. It's a relatively short book. This is good if you just want something quick to read; it's doable in 1 day. However, this also brings me to the first point below:
Things I disliked:

    1. I felt like it wasn't really fleshed out enough. The book does describe their past & what the ML did afterwards to try to get the MC back. I think the MC's forgiveness is definitely justified within the context of the story, the ML really was desperate and suffered a lot (I would argue even more than the MC did). However, this is probably subjective, but the way it was approached just didn't feel natural. It's a bit dumb to expect realism from a fantasy danmei novel, especially a rebirth one, and I'm normally very good at suspending my disbelief but in this particular case, it felt like the hand of the author really showed. The ML's method of bringing the MC back felt like a forced device just to make him suffer enough to be redeemed. The MC finds out by
      Spoiler

mysteriously having dreams about the past timeline and what happened after his death. Basically, the ML was given a light and was told that when it turned red, his devotion would be enough to send one version of himself back to the past. However, another version of himself would continue living in a world without the MC, with just the hope that somewhere out there, there was a timeline where they could start over. He self-harmed for years, feeding his flesh to snakes until the light finally turned red, and then to ensure that the ritual was completed, fed himself alive to the snakes and died.

      [collapse]
I think it was the over-the-top nature of his redemption that was what felt forced to me--it just didn't seem like all that should be necessary, with just one thing after another. However, if you don't mind that and you just want devotion, this will be great for you.
    2. It has a palace setting but I wouldn't really call it a political drama. That isn't really a big deal, except the few schemes that do come up are resolved incredibly quickly to the point that it feels unsatisfying. The shou asks the gong to kill
      Spoiler

one of the gong's relatives on his mother's side after said relative steals something from the shou

      [collapse]
It feels like such a contrived plot twist.
    3. Everything in their past life could've been easily avoided if the ML just thought to talk to the MC who he claimed to love so much. Sometimes this works in novels where it feels in-character for a person to not have the courage to explain their thoughts. However, in this book, his reason for not explaining just felt very lackluster.
However, if you're better at suspending your disbelief and you read this more for the satisfaction of seeing a previously-s*um gong grovel, then this is the book for you. Everything is revealed around chapter 48-ish, so you have a decent amount of time to see him grovel and then see them slowly get back together. This could've easily been one of my favorite books if executed better, which is why it's rated 4 stars, but it just fell short which was a little disappointing. It's definitely not bad by any means. <<less

What's up with the ending??? The author was so harsh on the ML like hell????

Bro ML is the emperor he cannot be the lover MC wants. He cannot let all the concubines go because those aren't just woman they are in fact political factions as a emperor he has to consider the bigger picture. Though I have no illusions about the ML. If he could he most likely would have had s*x and imp**gnated his concubines. Do I like this?? No But is is absurd?? Also no!! He is the... more>> emperor for f*cks sake. MC is a guy form that time how is he so dumb???How can he not know or understand an emperor's duty???? Like bro???

Personally I don't like the ML bro is prideful as hell not only that he doesn't have much of a faithful bone in his body like for example twice he went to two of his concubines one for drinking and one for a game. He knew they were trying to seduce him he still went to them he can't have s*x with them then what's the point??? He wasn't vigilant and almost spent the night with a concubine had it not been for the MC. So ya don't like him but I can understand him as a character and he sure as hell doesn't deserve the sh*t he goes through.

Not to mention ML himself told MC that he cannot be the husband MC wants and MC should divorce him. A normal person would ask what happened?? Why are you suddenly saying this?? But MC he just panicked and was like no matter what I want to live with you so he wants to live with ML then he has to bear with it. ML didn't force him. It's his own choice his own decision what right does he have to act wronged????

ML has no support he has to govern a country but still has to be wary of so many people hell his so called mother also wants him dead. He has to marry because these women will provide him with connections. In ancient time marriage of the emperor was for alliance.

ML was the one who encouraged MC to have hobbies to have friends. MC himself distanced his friends he by his own hands isolated himself. ML can't spend all the time with MC he has so much work. So why did the MC mentioned the past as if it's ML's fault that he has no friends??Why act like a victim ??? Bro your husband is a emperor He has sh*t to do........... He himself was the one who was unreasonable unwilling to understand a person's duties. Just because he has nothing to do does that mean everyone is as free as him???? I don't understand being from that time itself and ML's attitude why can't he understand that he cant be the priority?????? For a good emperor his spouse can never be the priority. He doesn't have the basic IQ to understand anything.

And it's not like ML was great. He should have communicated. He was so prideful and complacent like when you know your lover is dumb then f*cking communicate!!!!!He was rude to MC but honestly if someone constantly treats you like you are his everything and constantly treats himself like a doormat you would also unconsciously start treating him that way. It's human nature but yes this made me dislike him. But what I don't like is why The ML is portrayed as a villain??? Why is he always suffering??

It's completely clear that ML is even crazier than MC and he loves MC unconditionally so why does ML has to go through pain if he stays a certain distance away from MC??? Whatever MC did in his past life was from his own accord then why the f*ck he is acting like he was forced to??? Why the f*ck ML is getting punished for MC's choices??? And he would be in pain for the rest of his life??? ML doesn't deserve that. Why is MC portrayed like he was wronged??? Why is author deliberately torturing the ML??

Infact MC was foolish and s*upid. How can he never once thought to ask his partner about his burdens? He just lives in his own delusions. Most of the MC's sufferings was because MC was to dumb and foolish. Not that ML isn't at fault for not communicating but that doesn't mean he is the source of all problems.

Problem was MC's childhood. Because of his childhood he became totally obsessed with the ML. Infact what MC needed was a common man who would love him unconditionally unfortunately ML was destined not to be the guy. It was not that ML didn't love him enough it's just that ML had too many burdens and he himself didn't know how to communicate.

That's why I am dissatisfied with the ending. Because they are trying to portray like ML is some sort of a scum. He is a bit foolish and arrogant but he isn't a s*umbag. But the ending was totally in MC's favour. And ML will have to suffer for the rest of his life because of that pain. It's unfair. What should have happened was them talking it out in their second life. Their personalities are too different not to mention the circumstances made it worse instead of making the ML suffer for no reason the author should have focused on them developing their relationship and clearing the misunderstandings. <<less

Actual rating - 4 stars, but rated it 5 because I got a little annoyed at some other reviews. Some say the ML had it too easy - he literally went through soooo much I could barely believe he did all that sh*t just to get MC back ... more>>
Spoiler

he literally cut out chunks of his skin over and over again to feed some magical snake things and in the end sacrificed himself so another him could go back in time

. Some comments were scolding MC and saying he was too harsh on ML... but srsly u're only saying this bc u got ML's pov but from MC's pov he was being slowly abandoned and it clearly affected him so much that he literally commited su*cide?? I think the character growth was very realistic. It all boiled down to terrible lack of communication. Some comments were scolding MC for not trusting ML but how can u say that when ML didn't even tell MC anything in the first place... all I can say is it was pretty slow burn, MC rly hated ML especially after his rebirth and it was more than halfway through (almost to the end) when he finally forgave ML. MC is the kind of person who loves and hates deeply, a cold character who's only soft to those he keeps in his heart. In his first life, only his mum and ML were in his heart. In his second life, even after he forgave ML, he learns that it's kinda unhealthy even if he wants to only stick to ML once again, and he slowly grows close to his father and brothers too. <<less

I only made it to chapter 39 before giving up in disgust. The title is entirely misleading. The 'shou' didn't 'move on'. He just found a different way to throw childish temper tantrums. He's spoiled, coddled, somehow miraculously good at everything despite it never showing him put in any effort. There was never any 'love' to move on from, only mindless, selfish obsession. I stopped reading because I find the thought of the two actually forming an emotional attachment repulsive. The Emperor is incompetent and the 'Emperor's spouse' is a... more>> conceited brat. For those who like this kind of ridiculously exaggerated soap opera, it's not horribly written and the translation quality is decent. <<less

I almost dropped this a few times.

It's definitely a read that will tempt you to do so.

I get that crematoriums can be frustrating, but I don't necessarily mind, however, this had me flipping a few tables.

... more>> Characters : 4/5

The characters here are definitely never OOC. MC is a spoilt kid with a terrible mouth. Is arrogant, entitled and honestly, just a rich kid. There's nothing particularly special about him, he's just a pretty young master.

ML is actually quite clever but brain switches off when it comes to MC. He's quiet, timid and mostly rational. But is also a coward, unreliable, and indecisive.

I honestly found the MC annoying and a bit unbearable. But that's also his character design as a spoilt rich kid who struggles to take responsibility over their actions, so the author did really well in that aspect.

I don't think I could go so far as to call ML a s*um because I think the decisions he made were for the most part, quite rational. However, I do understand why MC is so upset and unwilling to continue the relationship. So much happened, and nothing can honestly make up for the pain he felt.

Spoiler

HOWEVER, just as MC was a puppet and was used for others schemes, so was the ML.

The true s*um is the Empress Dowager. She's the villain and everyone is a victim of her greed.

If I think about it, MC had a family that cared about him, even though they weren't on good terms.

But ML literally had no one - all he had was the throne. Close family? None. Lover? Questionable.

So I am a bit more biased towards the ML (not excusing his actions and how terrible they were)

I also don't think he needed to suffer that much. Sh* just felt unjustified after a while. Not saying what he did is great and that there shouldn't be any repercussions, but the story is written in a way that makes us sympathise quite a lot with the ML, so the punishments he faces sometimes just feel.. overboard. Maybe that's the point? MC, although justified, was too stubborn and that kinda made it hard to sympathise with them. I get why people are like " he went through a lot, " because he did. But we're redoing things, your bae is cooperating, even if you don't love him anymore, just... damn don't be soOo mean.

Like when he was trying to force ML to marry a woman from his family and have kids to ensure his family's position. It just left a sour taste in my mouth and I guess I never recovered from that. 🤕

[collapse]

This is essentially a case of miscommunication between people with terrible personalities.

Plot

3/5

The story had me in the first half, I was really enjoying reading it but at some point it just got really tedious and I found myself skimming through chapters. I also just didn't like the two characters as a couple, just.. chemistry isn't there for me personally. Nothing tear jerking or awe-inspiring, which is okay, but just ended being meh for me.

Readability / Writing / Translation:

3/5

overall, not bad writing or translation. Just had trouble with things happening in the present or being day dreams about the past. Text doesn't really introduce these day dreams/ past events well. Found myself trying to reread a lot because there'd be like, 3 conversations going on, and I'd get confused as to which timeline we're talking about.

Last words:

Not a terrible read, but definitely not one I'll read again. I'm probably just not the market, and that's fine. This may work for you so go ahead and give it a try. <<less

This novel is like a train wreck, horrible, but you can't look away. The relationship was toxic and many reactions and actions didn't make sense.

The MC is a selfish, overly emotional, arrogant man child. The ML is a spineless, arrogant, overly rational jerk.

I really can't think of 1 redeeming quality of this novel, but somehow I finished it 😂. It may have been better if the author only wrote it in 30 chapters as it dragged.

Great translation, thank you!

I am glad someone is mentioning that the MC actions are deplorable, my genuine sympathies with the ML. If you are reading this in the context of Imperial China, rule of Emperor, the actions of MC are like of an obsessive teenager not behaviours of a dignified Empress.

MC own words/thoughts he admits that he listened to the advice of bad people to manipulate the Emperor actions. So why should the reader sympathize with him, especially if such manipulations led to Emperor destabilizing his empire for the sake of his wife/Empress... more>> whims.

MC admits he was paranoid constantly of anyone approaching ML or attempting to steal his affections, which again caused him to kill/persecute innocent people. He even went so far as using the secret police under the MC control to suppress the ML. I can sympathize why ML wanted to eventually get rid of MC.

ML never actually physically cheats on the MC, even the MC admits to it as much but he was jealous always even after constant assurance from the ML that the concubines are necessary to keep the ministers in court in line.

This is the laughable part. MC feels no regret or remorse for any of his actions that actually hurt his beloved Emperor, he only feels sorry for himself and his family, which is the ultimate irony because he did that to himself by forcing the Emperor hand with his bad decisions. If you take the context of the story of being set in Ancient China, it looks like Emperor was trying to stabilize his rule while his scheming jealous paranoid wife made it thousand times difficult time for him by empowering his enemies, scaring off his allies, and making him look weak when he is unable to control his Empress, so eventually he was forced to chose a side and he chose country over MC even if he loved the MC deeply.

All the blame is dumped on ML because MC commits su*cide which is the last thing ML wanted and he suffers greatly for it, but what is looked over is the years of ab*se/pressure the MC heaps on the ML which finally causes him to snap. I think we all have read lots of ab*se stories where the ML is usually the ab*ser but most of the time their actins are not justified, but seems like the author itself is writing this story justifying MC neurotic behaviour. There is no real redemption reflection from the MC side. At the start we read MC commit su*cide, we go awwwwwww poor MC, then we get the context of it then it is like what a dumb ass poor ML.

Lastly I think ML loved MC more because ML saw MC for who he was flaws and all and tried to cherish him for as long as he could until MC made it impossible, but the MC love for ML was narcissistic. MC thoughts after his rebirth where all me me me me me never once does he consider ML problems, MC even writes off his mistakes as ML fault lolzzzzz. <<less

Not gonna lie, this novel is fun if you're looking for melodramatic angst or would just like to see an ML suffer. Considering what we know of MC's previous life, seeing the ML's regret and anguish in the first 25 chapters or so is very satisfying.

That being said though, MC isn't entirely blameless here and around Chapter 35, I was getting tired of seeing MC torture ML without any hint of self-reflection on his own actions in his past life. Not saying ML should be easily forgiven but MC should... more>> really have developed some self-awareness at that point and not pin all the blame on ML.

Both ML and MC have made mistakes and, honestly, many of the tragedies in the past life could have been avoided If. They. Had. Just. Communicated.

Spoiler

MC and ML found out that they were both reborn and these two idiots did not bother to talk it out. Like seriously, wasn't that the perfect opportunity to lay everything out in the open? I get that ML is unbelievably bad at expressing himself while MC has closed himself off, which makes talking hard for them, but as a reader, this just got really frustrating.

[collapse]

Despite my frustrations with this novel though, it's still entertaining enough and I won't discourage anyone from reading it, provided, that you adjust your expectations accordingly. <<less

Its a damn good story totally worth the read. Its about how MC gets his revenge on s*um gong. To be more precise its like only revenge series. MC and ML both come back in time. ML abandoned MC, MC was literally obsessed with ml. But ML let him down and wronged him in many ways. MC attempted su*cide and reincarnated then he rebuild his relationship with his family and also MC is really cruel, unrestrained type of a person.

Also if u think that its mc's own fault that he... more>> died he should have never fallen for him that bad and should have never done this or that then u are wrong him being obsessive was only cuz of times when ML approached him, like when his mother died and he closed of to the world. So basically for MC ML was the only one in his life. And u would be obsessed with someone like that <<less

My current thoughts on this novel:

In terms of plot, its focused on the entanglement between the ML & MC from their 1st life into their second. Was it well written? Sorta. Did I enjoy it? No.

Simple fact is that after a while, I got bored of Yun Qingci (MC) and his nasty ways.

... more>> It's gets really boring reading how repetitive he is. Yun Qingci's thinking in this novel is this:

  • Something goes wrong? Blame ML.
  • Stubbed my own toe? Blame ML.
  • Weather changes? Blame ML
  • Gets cold at night? Blame ML.
On a sidenote: The reasons he blames the ML for in the novel are for stuff way more extreme & petty.

Yun Qingci, the MC is just a classic example of a walking disaster... I felt zero sympathy for him at all. If you read this novel, you start to notice that the cause of all his suffering was not Li Ying but himself!

He feigns ignorance and tries to push the blame all on the ML. He blames his death on the ML even though it was his own dam fault!

Spoiler

Also the part about the 2 bodyguards he had with him that you find out about later. This loser is the cause of his own suffering!

[collapse]

At this point Yun Qingci would blame gravity on Li Ying if he could!!! He is unreasonable & just flat out cruel for no dam reason. If he was a cow in his first life, then he is a god dam female dog in his second life.

Yi Ling, the ML suffers from delusions of the heart & soul! This is the Shou you can't live without?!? I am shooketh. There isn't really much to say about him, except that he actually must have something mentally wrong with him!!! I'd go mentally insane I guess if my "true love" was Yun Qingci...

All in all this is the story of two messed up, self destructive individuals. They are both mentally stunted, do messed up things and even feed off of each other doing this nonsense.

Although I don't mind the premise of an extremely messed up relationship, I cannot stand Yun Qingci... like this dude is just full of it. This is a story lacking redemption with an extremely twisted MC & a deluded ML.

Notes on translation: The translation was fine, no complaints really.

Notes on rating: 3/5. Reason for my rating is the +2 for translation but think of that as a 10/10. +1 for the novel in itself. I would recommend reading this if you felt like going down a road that leads nowhere & barely has any push or pull to it. NU really needs to separate ratings so that I may give 5 stars for the translation ONLY because there is no way I am giving this a 5/5! This is borderline a 1 star!!! <<less

Solid story, could have been better, but still entertaining. I liked how the shou was really obsessed and kind of crazy in his first life, and vindictive and refusing to love the gong in his second life. But I wish we had seen more of how the shou MC went from being a sweet and loving partner to overly clingy and insanely jealous empress who would kill anyone who dared to even have thoughts about his husband.

Also I wish the story had dived more into the shou's suffering - being... more>> driven to su*cide was a massive trauma for him, the more that got revealed about the gong's motives and actions in the past, the more he ended up looking like the good guy. It might just be me, but I don't enjoy it when the protagonist have been treated horribly by his lover and you really get to hate the guy - just to have the author pull the rug from under your feet and yell 'Surprise! It was all a misunderstanding and there's another person who's the real villain.' Can I please just get a s*um gong who actually needs to atone for his bad deeds? The MC was driven to su*cide, and no, it wasn't his fault, he had real reason to believe that the emperor wanted to drive him to death.

And since the ML turned out not to be a scum, I found his atonement and punishment way too exaggerated. Also I'm not really fond of crematorium plot where the shou forgives the gong just because

Spoiler

he suffers a lot. That doesn't magically fix the relationship.

There was also a side plot with one of the MC's brothers and another guy who apparently fell in love with him, but it was only mentioned in passing with a weird cliffhanger.

All in all it was fairly good, it was only the last handful of chapters that annoyed me a bit, and also the fact that the villain was really generic and one-dimensional. <<less

So, I agree with the reviews that the characters are well written-- there's definitely miscommunication, but you can very clearly see WHY in both cases, and it's understandable why it isn't corrected quickly.

You also WANT them to get back together, even with MC trying to convince himself to fall out of love with the ML, and the ML starting off chasing this ideal one-way relationship.

But also as someone who can only deal with so much yearning, I'm taking a break at chapter 14 because I need some resolution! This is... more>> not my usual go-to read type, and I need some cuddles! Heck! <<less

One word. Toxic.

Thats what this whole novel is. Toxic relationships are very bad but its the most fun, I’m not quite sure how to explain. Like the thrill and the craze, the possessiveness to weird yin and yang yadda yadda. The MC and ML are in this toxic relationship. For one moment if you think the MC is worse, the ML is like an even more superlative of worse, if there is a word for it. It was a good read though.

I'm not starring the review because I couldn't finish the story.

I didn't mind the dog's blood - that's why I picked up the story since I'm in an angsty mood.

[Btw the tag for su*cide and self harm (there's not even a tag for that) weren't listed and I'm coming to this story late.]

... more>> I even liked the reversal of the Lord Empress acting sane while the Emperor went nuts.

Where I had to stop was the revelations of how the Emperor and Empress transmigrated back to a point 8 years into their marriage.
Spoiler

Anything that involves a person carving themselves up to feed flesh eating snakes is where you lose me. It makes the sleeping next to a corpse for 12 years seem mild and that makes me physically ill.

PLEASE READ THE SPOILER IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH CREEPY SICK CRAZY.

I read the horror romances and love them. This was just sick, gross and creepy crazy. That the MC's soul ghost saw everything in the spoiler and this is what causes him to turn the corner and forgive the ML makes him as freaking nuts as the ML. A bridge too far, author, a bridge too far. <<less

Damnei with the story of reincarnation + angst + kingdom.

Unfortunately MC+ ML is too obsessive and jealous.

Both of them, until the end did not change even worse.

Warning: MC also annoying, cruel and scum.

First thing first, this novel is not well executed so don't have much expectation when you start reading it. Secondly, I didn't really like this story nor did I hate it. To be exact I didn't like our MC. He downright annoyed me especially in the later part of the story where everything was explained to him but he still decided to act like a basic b*tch who feels that the world revolves around him. Their past life was torturous for BOTH of them not just MC alone. Both of... more>> them were schemed against, both of them suffered and both of them were at fault. MC was too obsessed while ML wanted to balance everything out. There of course were some incidents where ML acted like a jerk and he should definitely be punished for it. He should've also made everything clear to MC when he saw how paranoid MC was. It was mainly miscommunication that brought in this disaster to them. <<less

I don't like stories where the main conflict can be solved by people just honestly talking. If ML is shameless enough to chase MC, why isn't he able to be an adult in the first place. If MC is overbearing and already known to do whatever he wants, why can't he speak his mind. Personally I dislike both of them. That being said, others may enjoy this. It's well translated so it's worth giving a shot.

Wow, I don't know why some readers are saying the ML doesn't deserve the mental torture. I mean, I haven't read much of the chapters because it's not my cup of tea but like... I mean... in the earliest chapters, it has already been mentioned that the ML had actually physically hurt the MC to the point of injury. And the latter chapters, we knew he mentally hurt MC again and again for political reasons. Along with his revealed hypocrisy in this life, still wanna say it is simply a... more>> misunderstanding? As if!

Also, what do you mean MC should have believed in ML and that he shouldn't listen to what other people say?

Is it because he's supposed to blindly believe in someone who refused to say anything and keeps on acting suspiciously? In what world, sane people would ever agree to that?

Do read or reread chapters 33, 35, and 38.

MC said everything I want to say to ML and everyone who supported him (by everyone, I mean those who haven't read or have read until chapter 39 only).

Up to this point, ML totally deserves every bit of it. He was tortured in a way that is simply a return of what he did say or do to MC previously even if the meaning behind it is different from what the MC originally thought it means. I still think so even after reading chapter 39. <<less

I swear, I've never had to force myself to continue reading a story as much as I did with this one. In the end, I simply chose to be happy and let go of this stressful read, and is so sad because I trully like to read wife chasing crematorium.

Where should I start? At first, I sympathized with the MC, but as the story progressed, I found it increasingly difficult to stay on their side. It became unbearable to read how the MC took pleasure in physically hurting the male... more>> lead ML. That was my breaking point. On top of that, the MC constantly pushed the ML into situations he knew the ML hated, all under the guise of revenge.

I'll admit that the entire novel is based on a massive misunderstanding and a lack of communication. However, I can see why the ML wouldn’t want to share his burdens with someone as immature as the MC, who inspires no confidence whatsoever.

Finally, the author’s unwillingness to address the despicable nature of the character they created is even more frustrating. The MC never shows the slightest intellectual capacity to analyze situations, even when the truth is blatantly obvious.

I guarantee you can find better revenge stories than this. Don’t waste your time on it unless you enjoy reading about the biggest s*um of an MC I’ve ever encountered. The author does everything to make you pity him, but he’s truly an insufferable character. <<less
