This might just be one of the most straightforward romances I've read in a long time. While there's nothing remarkable about it, the translation is good and the writing quality is solid, judging it by what it's trying to accomplish. So I gave it the full five stars. You can just read it with the mindset you would have reading a romantic fairytale, like Cinderella.

There is a male yandere tag but the male lead is honestly milder than most when it comes to this type of Crown Prince War Hero... more>> Male Lead romance story. He doesn't encroach on the female leads freedom or act particularly domineering towards her. He doesn't unnecessarily hurt anyone (outside of the war) and while being very much in love he doesn't come across as obsessive so much as just an overly-idealized doting romantic partner. The female lead holds zero grudges against him for anything he does regarding the war between their countries so there's no conflict there.

The female lead is the low self-esteem ab*sed-but-kind type. The male lead is extremely doting. They establish their feelings for each other extremely quickly with no major misunderstandings and continue to be completely honest with each other throughout the story. There are some external conflicts but they're hardly worth mentioning. The story paints a somewhat overly rosy picture of the state of a country subjugated by a much larger empire in a needless war, but this sort of rose-colored glasses approach to imperialism is also common to the genre so I can't count it against this story in particular.

In brief, a fluffy and straightforward short romance. <<less
