Occupational Analysis of “Crown Princess”:

Number One: Promotion prospects are bleak, Crown Princess—Empress—Empress Dowager, the time between each is vast, and difficulty is extremely high.

Number Two: No guarantees of continuous labor, not to mention the lack of insurance, you can be dismissed at any time, furthermore you will no longer be able to start another career!

Number Three: The nature of the job is dangerous, at any time there is the danger of death, if the Crown Prince isn’t able to ascend as emperor, you will fall out of luck together with him, if the crown prince ascends as emperor, you have to be careful as to not unluckily fall alone.

Number Four: Moonlighting as a s*x worker, though the intensity of the job is unlikely to be very big, however, there is no power to select the service partner.

To summarize, the job of Crown Princess isn’t particularly a good job, no prospects, large stress, and the manual labor is intense……

Okay, in fact that was just a flood of words, a simple summary is:

This is a story about a “woman’s” struggles in the harem……

At the same time, it is also about a “man’s” sufferings in the harem……

I kept decline to read this until now because some of the bad reviews and the thought this novel not to my laking.

Sure enough! My bad impression was slapped when I give this story a try. Well, this novel got adapted to drama for no reason, right? Even Kdrama Mr. Queen decided take this novel as reference.

After all, everyone has their own point of view, so judge it by yourself.

The characters are interesting and the drama is deep.

Read this if you like to be tortured with unknown character motivations and bet on who actually has sincere feelings.

The main character is not s*upid, but will struggle to understand the other characters alongside the reader. At least the main character has sufficient reason to not trust people enough to just be honest with each other.

EDIT: This might be outdated because I dropped it!

The MC in this is AMAZING. So cunning and strong! Lu Li, the MC's maid, is also absolutely amazing. Lu Li is ranked as one of my favourite characters not just in this novel, but in c-novels in general.

The ML is a s*umbag, but I like s*umbags so I was fine with that for a long time - UNTIL NOW.

The first half of the novel is hilarious and also very interesting, a good read in general. In later chapters it has... more>> gotten a bit darker, though, at least for the characters I care about.

So, about the ML and why I'll probably drop this:

Spoiler

He is very scheming and selfish, and several times he has betrayed the MC in horrific ways. When he learnt the MC was a "fake" it seemed like they were going to become partners in crime. This is not what happens, and WARNING: the other times it seems like it will happen, it also won't.

I actually didn't care much about all the sh*t he does because my focus is the MC. Also, the ML/MC interactions were funny anyway, they made good enemies.

This all changed when he came came for Lu Li.

First off, at around this point in time he realized the MC was a male in a female body. He forces the MC to say "I am woman" on an absolutely horrifying scenes where he threatens them with what you'd imagine :| The MC cries for the first time in the novel (and they have suffered a lot throughout) and the one scene honestly made me want to barf, it was horrifying.

Immediately after, he tried to kill Lu Li. I stopped "not caring" about him and he honestly became one of my most hated characters ever. His actions after that were worse and worse - trying to r*pe the MC to humiliate them taking the cake.

The MC has also clearly begun to sink further into despair after Lu Li left; partly because of having to succumb and say that they were a woman, but also because they are now alone with no one they can trust.

At this point she is very alone and losing it and it can be seen in numerous ways. Without Lu Li here it's also way harder to look past it. This isolation of the MC turned the comedy into a horror story in the span of a chapter.

Anyway the ML is dead to me.

Callback to when the ML and the MC slept together for the first time and the MC called out Lu Li's name! Gosh, I wish it really had been Lu Li!

[collapse]

In summary, soon to be dropped but Lu Li is still a queen. <<less

I likes the MC and the story except for the fact that !SPOILER ALERT! She ended up with

Spoiler

The f*cking shitty crown prince like wtf, I honestly shipped her with that Chu guy, the second ml, in also the drama and I thought that they would end up together but no. Crown Prince was so awful and didn't deserve MC that I went as far as to think the MC should just go with the evil 2ndML instead. 2ndML's ending was just awful and I really felt sorry, ML should just suffer

I'm so frustrated of the Crown Prince <<less

I thought this novel is a comedy from the early chapters, but I was wrong it became so serious and a bit complicated through the end, the story is non cliche, it was a good read but not really enjoyable... full of heartache T_T and when things got a bit better it ends just like that... where's my fluff?? It's actually kind of funny that the only webnovel where I remember the Crown Princess/Empress utilizing her natal family to advance and retreat and rise with the tide of her fortune is a genderswap transmigration.

This is a political intrigue webnovel disguised as a comedy, though not in the sense that it tricks you, but more in the sense that while it bears the trappings of a comedic misunderstandings webnovel, the plot and the overall themes are that of politicking in the Imperial Harem. All the characters are players here, not... more>> only the crown princess and the crown prince, but also the empress (later empress dowager), the other princesses, the various aristocratic military families, etc, etc. There's some slapstick buffoonery from the main character to keep the surface tone light-hearted and comedic but as the story progresses they quickly start dealing with the deeper bits of the plot like the fight for the Dragon Throne, coups and counter-coups, and the question of succession and inheritance in the back palace

I won't say it's a masterpiece but it was worth reading to the end. And that's kind of rare for most of the webnovels on this site. <<less

I see all these commenters commenting about how it's so different from the drama adaptation Go Princess Go and Mr Queen, and all I have to say is WTF? Like why are you even comparing the drama with the novel? It's irrelevant here. And speaking from someone who has watched Mr Queen, it's nothing like Mr Queen AT ALL (and Mr Queen's ending made no sense like why would the king stay in love with the queen when there's someone else who has replace the person he fell in love... more>> with) ! So I was a little bit confused when people compare to it not knowing that it was an adaptation. I totally understand if y'all wanna 'deter' anyone who came in expecting something similar to the drama, but hopefully y'all aren't hating on it because it's not the same as the drama, but hating on it if the novel just genuinely suck

But speaking from a your normal reader point of view, I would say that this novel wasn't really my cup of tea. It wasn't an enjoyable read for me. I actually found it okayly translated and that it was okay really written, but I found it a little bit confusing and that the romance wasn't very good. As someone a little bit dumb, I found that the palace scheming and drama had a wee bit too many innuendos that I couldn't figure out myself and that the author did not decipher for me. So I was left wondering about the hints dropped. Besides, I found the palace scheming and plot not all that interesting? The plot on the female leads and was a lot about survival but because it wasn't really explain all that well, it didn't turn out right? I mean I get that your end goal is to be empress Dowager but it was really put very nicely? And on the male lead's end, all you know is that he is the ultimate schemer and winner that's all. The only time that the part was explain really well was when the ML, FL and Bathroom guy aka 9th Prince were talking it out by the river. Anyways the plot low-key s**ked because there wasn't really one TBH.

There are quite a few interesting characters in the novel but I felt that their place in the story were completely redundant. They were there to move some of the plot along but they're mostly there just for some 'comedic relief'. I see that the author was trying to make the story hilarious, but it was just more of a smile kinda a moment for me. Half the time I know that the author was trying to be funny and sometimes it's ok but other times, ERM... maybe it got lost In translation.

The romance... honestly had so much potential to be an angsty happy ending romance, but... It really wasn't well developed. There was no angst, and half the time it was just really not romance. The female lead was overly suspicious of the male lead and the male lead was just using the female lead, both of which is justifiable but come on, where is the romance? There was no drastic turning point where both of them fell in love. I guess it was gradual and it was kind of sweet but as a God view, third person reader in the story, half the time I can't even tell whether the female lead and a male lead are genuinely acting out of love or scheming against each other, which made it feel like the romance was not developed at all. There are no second male leads only guys who are side characters and 'allies'. It was a I-use-you-you-use- me-and-we-double-cross-each-other- because-let's-face-it-we-don't-trust-no-one situation.

But I did enjoy the ending though. It was a happy ending that I like ie with tons of kids and follow up with crybaby maid and her husband. It was very closurey so I feel at peace after finishing it and am not bashing the novel hahahaha.

So yeah, if you want to give it a go I guess you can but personally I found it not all that much enjoyable and I honestly don't know why it was adapted to a drama (s), maybe because it was a guy entering a female's body take which was refreshing but it is not justified. Luckily, it was only slightly over 100 chapters otherwise I would have dropped the novel. Recommended if you like 'comedic relief' in your palace scheming novel, interesting side characters who get very interesting and memorable labels, want a first person POV (which you don't often get from CN novels) and an interesting female lead with an interesting way of thought (who till now I don't feel love her children because honestly it's from first person point of view and there was no mention whatsoever of her distress or love or concerns for her children (or her talking in depth about her children) except for the 'genuinely sincere tears' she shed after they were apart for awhile). <<less

I feel a little mixed on this. At the beginning, I enjoyed the comic contrast of a modern man's takes coming out of a historical crown princess's mouth, but the takes are a little (a lot??) f*ckboy and the novel quickly turns serious (with some occasional comic interludes). I don't think this is really adds much in the way of commentary on gender identity or whatever - the MC gets over it without too much fuss. There's also a potentially triggering scene where the crown prince reacts badly to the... more>> idea that the MC was originally a man.

It's not bad as a court intrigue novel, and fun to see the MC actively plotting against their husband the crown prince (and more realistic than immediately trusting and relying on him!) However, the crown prince aaalways ends up with the upper hand, which is kind of boring, and some of the arcs could've been cut (usually the case with webnovels though).

The romance is, uh, I guess it sort of exists, but you'll be mostly disappointed if you read it for that. It's clear the crown prince does falls in love with the MC, but the MC honestly doesn't seem to feel much for him and is just resigned to the relationship for much of the novel - the MC continuously compares being the crown prince's wife as a job where you have to please your boss. The author does a great job of showing why the MC can never 100% fall in love even when the MC does develop some feelings - can you trust someone who has your life in their hands and will plot to kill or undermine you if necessary? Ultimately the crown prince does make a grand gesture at the very end that could redeem the romance aspect for some readers, and I can see how it would, but idk if I was totally convinced.

Translation was readable, but I did switch from reading it in Chinese to the English (because I wanted to get through it faster) and there is a certain low level of eliding happening where some of the analogies etc are being simplified. <<less

The webseries was better

I love the Chinese webseries Go Princess Go, it is fun and cute and made me laugh so much

This translation is not fun or clever or amusing, it is a LONG BORING palace intrigue where everyone stabs each other in the back over and over and over again

Instead of reading this, go watch the drama

I'm still in the early chapters and I don't want to think more of it but he said this to the women in his inner monologue

"You all don't have anything in your heads a! Did you never learn that a man's inner qualities should be greater than his looks!"

Meanwhile he was thinking about breasts and stuff like that all day. I know it's supposed to be taken in a funny way so that's why I'll try not to be bothered that much.

This is such a good story that offers a unique experience to the readers as it is made with a different perspective of how men views the worlds when he become a woman. Nice flow of plot, storyline and we can see the development most of the characters. I really like how the novel come towards the end because we can see how much effort each characters have done to achieve their success in life with the love ones without hurting their consciences of how they views the world. Thanks... more>> to the author for writing this and also tq to the translators for choosing this novel and managed to translate it till the end. If you've already read and liked "To be a Virtuous Wife" you will probably also like this one as I found them pretty similar even considering the mostly different tags.

You have the all-powerful ML and the abandoned wife now a extremely pragmatic transmigrated person, the main difference I would say is that To be a Virtuous Wife is more angsty and focuses more on the drama and the struggle in the harem before switching focus on the relationship between the two leads meanwhile The Promotion Record of a Crown Princess... more>> is a kind of fluffy (?) gender bender palace drama (?) with a comedic undertone, it's really weird.

The story mostly focuses on the political drama, the emperor succession and the MC relation with the ML so it is not really a rom-com but it's not a political drama either, or at least not a good one.

112 chapters out 113 are written from the POV of the MC (limited contact with the outside world considering the time and gender) and you often find yourself reading about a political plotline with barely enough information to reach a conclusion, also, most of the information she gets is obtained from people with interests of their own, they have no reason to tell her the truth and she is the same considering she is fighting to survive. I feel like this deserves an unreliable narrator tag but maybe it's just me.

While the intrigue is going on the ML eventually falls in love with the MC and so he she has to struggle accepting the new identity as a female and stuff like that, pretty interesting overall and it leads to some funny situations, also both the MC and the ML are written very well.

A issue I have is that I found the MC to be too cold overall, even colder than the ML.

The two are enemies in a power struggle and the MC was used to being a male but he she never gave the ML a chance and that bummed me out a little considering the ML feelings for the MC were pretty clear after a certain point, even when the reason was explained I didn't really buy it, it was a little excessive imho.

Overall it's a solid read, it's also really funny at times but it's not really romantic (even the ending is pretty lackluster in that regard) so if romance is what you are looking for I won't recommend this.

Originally, I stumbled into reading this novel. I had no expectations so when the heroine's inner monologues began - I burst out laughing. Finally, a transmigrator who tells it like it is (or might be) and didn't settle complacently into life in the past.

The plot is that of a modern playboy who travels back in time - to find out he's now living the life of an unloved princess consort. Imagine the joys of discovering you were now living in a household of beautiful women - without the wherewithal to... more>> do anything about it. Or does he/she?

The author portrays the standard side characters in a palace novel - the concubines, the second leads, eunuchs, the other princes and a Dowager Empress - but gives them a sharply funny twist. I'm enjoying the plot so far and Our Hero-in-the-Heroine's-Body's proactive nature. He/She isn't going to just let things happen to him/her! Only, they never quite end up like he/she hopes... ha!

The humor is a bit bawdy but as many people are seeking it out because of the flirtatious drama version, Go Princess Go, I don't think that's a problem. Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out! <<less

First and foremost, LMAO! Omg that ending of chapter nine! Freaking hilarious! Anyways, down to business. I thoroughly enjoyed both translations of this novel. It drew me into the story deep enough that if there were any mistakes, I didn't really care about it. This novel is about a man who transmigrated into the body of an unloved consort princess in the middle of a love square, where she wasn't the one being fought for. Though inside the body of a woman, the MC still mantain his masculine thoughts and... more>> spends a great deal of his time checking out the beauties in the harem. As of yet there isn't enough chapters to really gauge the scope of the plot but so far for what is there I am thouroughly enjoying it and looking forward for more updates. Good job team. Genuinely funny. Don't compare it to either of the drama adaptations, it's not the same story. The MC is smart and capable, the ML is pragmatic and scheming. There's a lot going on between the lines. Especially the maid is such a great character - a complete crybaby, yet scheming and devious at the same time. Romance is understated and the main focus is palace schemes.

The extra were the ML made me wish we had gotten more of his perspective. He was so funny - cold and scheming on the... more>> outside, yet cursing and throwing shade during his internal monologue. <<less

Novel:

I give 3 star. Actually I have mixed feeling about this. Quite diffrent from webseries. Okay to read even the writing style not so good. There some plot hole that was so obvious. And the ending haiyaaaa.. make people want to flip table. Better you watch the drama (korean is better).

Drama adaption :

Go princess go! (China) the drama quite funny, silly, there's comedy, parody (there promotion/selling cond*m?) Sadness happiness ect. There's 2 or 3 different ending if I'm not mistaken due to china censorship towards yaoi's genre. But the first... more>> ending was so sad MC and ML die they was stabbed. It was said that the second alt ending not aired on official tv. In that ending after they die, MC goes back to his original time he wake up in his hospital bed shocked and start running to find the prove?? about ML (I dont remember much I watch it long time ago) and in that hospital MC run and accidently stumble into a male doctor wearing medical mask and MC look into that Dr eyes and his reaction was like 'He looks like HIM' the end. The third alt ending I dont found it but some people said it not released some people said has been released. Dont know which one is true.

Mr. Queen (korean) maintain main plot but there some different in the plot more serious than chinese one, focusing on food, inner royal struggle, the romance look real too.. the comedy, the flirt between king and queen. the costume also pretty. The ending was bitter sweet. I feel sad for Jang Bong Hwan. Somehow I feel like he has fall in love with the king Cheoljong. Huaaaa... my baby Bong Hwan. QAQ. Maybe.... if I'm not lazy I will write a fanfiction on ao3 for Bong Hwan. He deserve happiness also! Cry rivers for him. <<less

Truly embodies the spirit of "rotten schemes" to fight for power in a historical setting. This is really a tr*shy novel so tr*shy that you read on just to know what kind of further nonsense schemes and ideas the FL and ML have. It's not totally illogical. It's just typical in how they come up with the most useless and worst possible ideas for power / to "keep their life". FL doesn't really seem like she (he) was from the modern era after the first 5 chapters. Mainly, she exhibits... more>> more of the male characteristics of being a little lecherous dirty (wo) man. It was never clear whether FL and ML liked each other all the way until the end, and most of the time they are plotting against each other, not just little schemes but literal "I want to kill you" kind of plots. If that makes you confused and uncomfortable, you're not going to like this novel.

I quite like this novel because of all the ridiculous schemes that FL comes out with. Because she used to be a guy, she assumes that ML is a typical hot-blooded (modern) male with no control and keeps doing things based on these assumptions to "please" him. Whether her intention was to please or to irritate him, it's up to you to infer.

Overall, if you don't take this novel too seriously, you might enjoy this crazy wild ride. <<less

I accidentally clicked 5 but I think this story deserves a 4. It started as a really funny gender bender but it got more serious and there are a lot of misunderstanding and schemings from both ML and MC. It can be a little frustrating somehow. I'm just glad it is a happy ending.
