The Reader and Protagonist Definitely Have to Be in True Love

Description

An internet troll who wanted attention, the reader criticized his favorite web novel, saying: “The protagonist is dumb and the author is s*upid.”

Author: “…Got it.”

Unfortunately for him, the author actually listened to his (troll) feedback. The formerly lighthearted tale of a cute harem master suddenly became super dark and edgy. The reader could only helplessly look on as the protagonist was ab*sed and betrayed, finally embarking on the road to becoming completely evil. Everything was a mess!

After that the reader transmigrated into a strange world. How come the person in front of him looks like the protagonist (evil undead version)? Just what is going on?!

Note: Du Zhe (读者 meaning Reader) and Du Ze (杜泽 the character’s name) sound almost the same

This an advice: don't expect romance to casually bloom in the first chapters. You need a lot of patience for this first; before you can finally taste the story development and romance. To me this story is addicting. ? One of those web novel that is both engaging and satisfying. The chapter release is so frequent and smooth. I literally check every week for updates and whenever I finish a chapter, I am so impatient for the next one.

Anyway this is definetely recommended. The story, characters, plot, trials events and... more>> the understandable details of the settings of the world/novel, is totally captivating. Not to mention the comedy! XD

Anyway, this story is really long. Usually I finish a light novel in one day if it's good. But, this one took me 4 days! Oh, I also read the whole story from the start for the second time. And only after that second read, I realized that all those boring paragraphs in the previous chapters were actually ALL RELEVANT TO THE PLOT. ? As the others who rated this low, the first chapters aren't really engaging. I even skipped several paragraphs because the reader thoughts was dragging on and on. Anyway many monologues or rpg stuff details, that I didn't bother to read.

If you are famigliar with the old classic rpg games, then you might enjoy this. Though, unlike the other "I transforted.." series I read, the story doesn't focus hole time on RPG feautures (stats, cannon foddrer characters, etc-etc). Instead they casually mention them.

Only when the Reader transmigrated in the novel that the story finally gets exciting and intense. ? But, not that kind of intense that make you want to read it nonstop. To fully enjoy this you must read it with lots of patience. ESPECIALLY for those that aren't fond of story development but, are only looking for a intense romance story.

BECAUSE THE STORY DEVELOPMENT IS VERY PRESENT. And quite well-written and well thought too. The events are totally UNEXPECTED. = Which is so engaging & fantastic.

Plus the two main characters are great. The reader is so funny and I think his personally and background story is really good, totally reasonable. The protagonist is also very captivating. Both parties faced similar traumas which later brought them together. They're perfect together. I really love this two together. ? <<less

I rarely write reviews, but because I love this light novel so much, I want to say something about it.

The story is wonderful and the MC, Du Ze, is the type who appears cold, but is actually really isn't. His thoughts are actually really funny to read, contrasting to his outer appearance. The ML eventually falls heads over heels over our cute and brave MC, becoming someone quite possessive and yandere over Du Ze, but also shows Du Ze a side of protection and warmth that is not shown to... more>> anybody else.

The translation is very smooth and easy to read, little grammar errors that are easily overlooked.

Recommended for people who are okay with reading a lot of killing scenes and *ahem* heated scenes, but also want to enjoy a funny and fluffy romance that blooms between the adorable and sometimes dense MC and a possessive and powerful ML <<less

Started off a a guilty pleasure and ended up being my most awaited update of the week. There is very much an unreliable narrator, or rather just a very silly skewed MC; seeing everything through his blurry vision is a joy... especially when the one aspect of the novel that the readers can perceive with the greatest clarity allowed is the deep obsessive love of the ML.

I have read up to the translated chapter.

I can say the premise is very interesting. It's about how a reader is transported to the world of his favorite book and meets the protagonist. The protagonist of that novel is a mixed blood hence the title of the book is 'Mixed Blood'. There are 8 races and yes he has the ability to transform into them. Due to the MC's comment to the author the protagonist ends up with a warped personality. So our MC due to guilt wants to change... more>> the protagonist back to normal. From what I have read, the MC is very hilarious and kind of an otaku. He is deaf and due to that he is ostracized and feels disconnected from the world and seems to have mastered the pokerface. But his internal monologue is comedy gold.

The protagonist of the novel seems to fall to the yandere side a bit? He is very possessive, from what I can tell. The MC isn't minding it so I guess that's fine. He is also very cold and ruthless (due to the blackening?).

And I am actually here for the romance and fantasy. From what I have gathered it's very romantic the relationship progresses at a normal pace. overall it's a great read and has many likable things, a good romance, engaging plot and humor. <<less

An amazing spin on the "MC transmigrates into a high fantasy novel and inadvertently seduces the hidden-yandere ML" trope, with the first half establishing a slow burn realization of feelings from Du Ze (MC shou) towards his beloved protagonist Xiu (ML gong) and coming to understand "his" Xiu as someone unique and distinct from the stallion protagonist in the base material book.

The second half is where the overarching conflict starts to ramp up--before the trial of the Tower of God, DZ and Xiu are understanding each other and roughly playing... more>> out the plot of the original book, but just under the surface lies DZ's paranoia surrounding the real reason why he was brought to Xiu's world and what will happen if all plays out as it is seemingly meant to. The second half of the book is the 8 trials of the Tower of God, each one challenging one of the fantasy races that Xiu is able to embody and each one subtly shaping the protagonist into an unstoppable force that even DZ cannot hold back.

The contrast of DZ's otaku inner monologue and his outward cold appearance (given extra dimension with his disabled sight and hearing, forcing some interesting conflict and opportunities for characterization between the couple) is hilarious and at times incredibly relatable, while Xiu's personality changes depending on which form he's in but remains yandere and extremely shameless simultaneously. The two have genuine chemistry and I give props to the author for making a canonically stoic MC be able to express authentic earnestness and desperation in scenes to the reader.

I loved finding out the truth behind DZ's transmigration
Spoiler

; apparently, the God of Creation of the world found out he was a character in a book and tried to prevent his own canonical ending by destroying Xiu who, upon achieving his canonical ending of becoming the Supreme God, triggered DZ's disappearance from the world and subsequently also spent thousands/millions of years to find out the same truth of the book so that he could track DZ down in the modern world

[collapse]
.

Finally, I enjoyed the extras a lot because some novels will use extras to finish the major plotlines but these extras contained ~spice (that was actually hinted at several times throughout the novel lmao) as well as glimpses into the future of Du Ze and Xiu as a couple (and their friends and pets!)
Spoiler

now in the modern era

[collapse]
.

The author created a vivid world centered on only a few characters but made the underlying drama in their coupleship extremely compelling, and that angst paired with plenty of comedy and tons of action-adventure made for a truly enjoyable read. Now if only we could get a full manhua adaptation! <<less

The sorry was Greta I love it absolutely 10/10

The best thing about the story is that he MC still stayed as a reader, like how he didnt get OP or gain anything he just did what a normal person who iseaki would have done, if they didnt have the powers. He still help the ML in if he could.

The part where the MC was watching the ML fight, felt like how a reader was watching the protagonist Fighting, I honestly don't know how to explain but ya

I also like how... more>> they didnt forgot the fluff and we even got the smut 10/10 there, yes! There where R*p I read the tag before reading the story so I will not complain about it. <<less

Cute. Good completed consistent translation. Unusual story presentation and plot, so points to the author for ingenuity. Has some smut which managed to escape the crabs, so that was fun. Sweet Happy Ending (like, wrapped up in a glittery sweet golden present with a nice tidy bow for any reader who is worried at any point in the novel).

In terms of character development and believability of the plot progression, there were a couple of places that were a little stretched or simplistic but overall the dots connected in a reasonable... more>> way.

MC is not OP, and is there as an observer who ultimately participates without making big OP waves.

Not at the level of FOD or Kaleidoscope or Mist, but certainly a fun investment of time if you want something original and heartwarming in the Transmigration genre. <<less

This was a very lovely read. I love how action packed the whole novel is and of course, the super delightful smexy scenes and the variety of it because of the ML's "special circumstance" if you know what I mean. ;) *Cough cough* 8 races *cough cough*

I do understand that reading this novel now in 2025 after all the book transmigration novels I've read, this is not the BEST, but I could see the love that the author and the translator truly had for the premise of this story. It... more>> truly had potential and I enjoyed my experience in finishing this novel. Overall, a really fun read. I was always in suspense and anxious with Du Ze's "special part" in the novel world, things like why were the mythical beasts so scared of him, why were the "gods" so afraid of him when "the rules" would prevent him from saying things, like, I was just so anxious to know why is he there, and HOW did he get there?! My curiosity was completely satisfied when I found out about the reasons why in the end and it really was just gratifying to know.

By the end of this novel, it felt like a beautiful musical piece with its ups and downs and coming to an end in the best way the story can offer.

P.S.

Extras are cute. 4.3 out of 5. <<less

there's a lot to unpack here.

I came across this novel because of the manga months ago and I binged it in a few days and I absolutely loved it. I still do, as a fantasy story though.

I randomly saw this just now and decided to re-read the first chapters, I'm remembering a lot of stuff and now I think this isn't as good as I used to think.

Firstly, let me tell you that the world setting is awesome, I love the idea of different races living together in a world... more>> and a person with all the races combined living among them. I can definitely tell why Du Ze loved the original story. I would want to read the original story as well.

Moreover, This story is truly well-written, with complex characters and a nice portrayal of every race. Every arc is really engaging to read. Du Ze's character is realistic.

What puts me off though, is the romance. The first time I read it I was completely bewitched by the romance, but now I'm kind of finding it problematic.

Spoiler

I personally liked how Xiu came to understand that he was in love with Du Ze, because he always had his back and supported him and that he doesn't think of restrictions of love because of gender.

But, Du Ze on the other hand is whole another story. He was a straight man who admired Xiu as a person. Honestly, his love felt forced, I kinda wish their relationship wasn't romantic and was only a brotherly companionship, or at least he wasn't straight and his affection was developed better. Don't get me wrong, I love their cute moments, but it still doesn't sit right with me.

Also, some of the smut scenes felt really dubious. I remember One of them being blatant, barbaric r*pe, that scene was so unnecessary and uncomfortable to read: ( ( (Xiu, too, was too possessive and I really hate possessive characters. He acts as if he owns him

[collapse]

Also the sisters?!?!?

Spoiler

They are identical twins! I don't care if it's fantasy and they're not humans, that's the ultimate level of grossness.

[collapse]

I recommend giving this story a try, it really is worth it as a fantasy book. <<less

Okay, I just finished reading it. It's not perfect but I really do like it which is why I was able to finish all the chapters in one day. The main couple are really cute and I do like the minor characters though some of them were forgotten in the end.

The main character's rival, for example, was simply left behind somewhere and we never heard from him again.

That's not too bad since the focus of the story is the reader and protagonist, who are both really interesting.

, but "possessive love" and "love interest falls in love first" are a guilty pleasures, and the reviews were good. At the end I've read it till the end, but can't say it was very pleasurable.

At first I didn't understand what's happening. And I thought it'll change later, but it didn't change, I just got kinda used to it.

Obviously I found some things likeable, like the relationship between MC and ML - not that I liked everything what happened between them, but at least I've read that parts with interest. Because all the fighting scenes (that are many!) I just scrolled without really reading.

And I must say the author has a good sense of humor.

So, it has pros and cons. I'd like it to be more clear of a genre from the snippet. <<less

I really liked this! It’s not ~the best thing I’ve ever read~ but if you’re looking to kill time and are on the fence, I’d recommend starting it. Some general reflections after finishing:

I agree with comments about Du Ze being bland (at least outwardly) and there are definitely times where he veers from “relatively useless because he’s surrounded by monsters” into “actually useless” territory, but it’s not enough to ruin the story. He also makes up for it by using his brain. It’s not because he’s a genius, but because... more>> he uses basic common sense and has read webnovels before so he can predict the cliches.

Xiu is possessive, but not in a way that’s scary towards Du Ze, which I love. Sometimes possessive characters take their frustrations out on their partner, but that’s not the dynamic here. It’s also very clear they trust and like each other so there’s hardly any frustrating miscommunications.

The side characters are just there for the purpose of furthering the plot and don’t get any development, but again I didn’t hate it. I was more interested in the two leads anyways.

Overall, a good COMPLETE story, which are hard to come by! <<less

Lmao I snicker while reading other reviews here. I think they got used to the other CN novels with fast paced chapter 1 fall in love tropes, fast paced face slapping scenes, and an overly narcissistic MC that is too arrogant since their OP, or too shameless ╮ (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.) ╭ I think we forgot that Falling in love is not that quick for anyone XD.

Well, to each our own I guess.

For me, I really liked how the title made you hold onto your seat waiting when will this idiots fall in love?!?!? And when it finally happened, and after it was wrapped up, you will be left with; holy f*ck they are in love.

The Story was well paced as well as the romance. A little... more>> bit of slow burn and lots and lots of plot but holy f*ck it served when it finally combusted into a f*cking bonfire. The world building was amazing. Each race has it's own *cough* spicy quirk *cough* which made me look forward to meeting everyone.

While this can still be arguably imperfect and plot holes here and there, This story still holds a special shelf in my heart since this is one of the BL that I read way back then (alongside FOG, another story I am really fond of). Years after coming back to this, I still have fond memories of crying as I read it and the feeling of emptiness after it was done.

Bonus points since the story was quite *cough* spicy *cough*

ANYWAYS PLEASE THE WAIT WAS WORTH IT

I like the ending, the novel premise was interesting but maybe I’ve just read too many novels. Nothing was surprising, the twist was okaish, the narration gave a headache. Too much info dump. It seems like a much larger story crammed into 96 chapters. The ML seems a bit too simple, he’s mostly portrayed as having a single trait-loving the MC. The MC is ok but to easy going with the crap the ML is pulling and seems obsessed&autistic. His range of emotions portrayed, beside the ‘moe’ inner frenzy, is... more>> as paralyzed as his face. I don’t mind dubious consent but practically all they sexy times start a bit dubiously and one time even has wounds& blood as a consequence but our dear MC just shrugged and moved on. ML seemed to be temporarily more affected by it but he soon forgets and continues to ‘bully’ his darling MC left and right. So... great world building, interesting premise and future development but lacking on the subtle emotional development that could have made this story great. <<less

It all started with a doujinshi book.

The way the MC transmigrated was so smooth and appalling that I had to double back and reread that part just to make sure I didn't misread it 😂 And guess how he got transmigrated?

Spoiler

No, it's not because of the doujinshi at all. It was just a coincidence that Du Ze got transmigrated while reading the dj book. This is all I'll say 🤐

[collapse]

I'm just gonna breakdown a few factors that I have some opinions of.

  • ROMANCE: Some may think that the romance happened too fast but I have to disagree. The ML may appear to fall in love with the MC too quickly but there was a time skip of 3 years and even after that, the ML's feelings was more of a desire to monopolize before having any hints of romantic love. Besides, the story isn't just about romance but also focuses on the adventures of the MC & the ML, their travels all around the Chaos continent, their fateful encounters of one race to another, and their battles against their enemies that's why the pacing for the romance in the story was just right in my opinion.
  • SMUT: Regarding the smut scenes, I already expected it. When there's a combination of R*pe and Beastkin in the tags, I was fully aware of what I was going into. But you don't have to worry because there's only 1 smut scene that's a bit painful to read. If you can't handle it, you can skip it and it won't affect your understanding of the whole story. Aside from that scene, the rest of their pa pa pa are *french kiss* The author was kind enough to gift us the 8 races' different versions of doing the deed 😉
Spoiler

The ML got his favorite person hurt and even traumatized him cause of that certain painful-to-read smut scene that I was talking about. Drugged or not, driven like crazy or not, conscious or not, it was still wrong. However, Xiu repented a lot and even went as far as telling Du Ze that he'll make all the people who hurt him disappear even if it's Xiu. After that, Xiu was always careful not to hurt Du Ze again. He always makes sure to properly prepare him and all. I also like how our silly little cute Du Ze handled it afterward. He said: “You can’t disappear. I will always stay by your side.” AAAAA MY HEART 😭❤️‍🔥

[collapse]

  • CHARACTERS:
Spoiler

Du Ze (MC) - His poker face game is strong but on the inside, he's literally a cinnamon roll. He's silly and borderline s*upid. But for me, his silliness is not annoying. It's actually pretty cute. His initial desire/goal of wanting to see the ML become a god was the epitome of him being a fan boy of his favorite character.

It's funny how the MC is always being misunderstood as a strong entity hiding his true power and unlocking titles such as High-Level Dragon and High-Level Demon one after another even though it's actually the opposite. It's also hilarious when all the spirit beasts are scared of him. The funniest one was the unicorn. It kept on turning into a nightmare once the MC touches or rides it 😂 Moreover, it's funny how his hearing aid always goes on strike at the most crucial times 😂 I swear there's a system secretly built in there and its main mission is to troll the MC 😂 Same with the doujinshi book (the accursed book)

There's a lot of lines that Du Ze said in the novel that I really love but what stuck to me the most was when he said that the mixed bloods, specifically referring to Xiu, was a miracle. Initially, I thought that he's gonna say something cliché like "you're special" or something but noooo what he said was actually so much better.

Xiu (ML) - Out of all the blackened/yandere MLs I've read so far, Xiu is among my favorites. He's the kind of possessive, yandere that I like—crazy but still thinks about Du Ze's well-being. He's like a milder version of a yandere ML. I've read a couple of novels where a yandere ML literally locks up the MC, completely restricting his freedom and even forces the MC to do the deed even if the MC doesn't want to. Those are just too painful to bear that's why I prefer Xiu cause he still thinks about the MC's well-being and makes sure not to hurt him (well, except that one scene).

Wherever the MC goes, Xiu accompanies him and he trusts Du Ze completely. He's hopelessly crazy in love with Du Ze that I can't help but want to smack the silly MC sometimes for being naive and denying Xiu's feelings in the initial chapters. The scene where Xiu confessed his love for Du Ze and Du Ze finally got to hear the "song" was so heartwarming and full of feels 🤧

Other supporting characters that I like the most are:

  1. Violet - because she's a loyal subordinate and understanding towards the relationship between the ML & MC
  2. Old John - because he's the most dependable 40 thousand year old grandpa
  3. Our cute little Chirp, the Phoenix - sadly, it didn't get a name even till the end
    [collapse]
Maybe because I read this story twice with a long break period in between that's why I understood, thought, and saw things in a broader and more profound manner. Admittedly, during the first time that I read this novel, I sometimes get a little bit annoyed of the MC's naivety and lack of proactiveness when it comes to getting his self out of a predicament, especially when he gets repeatedly kidnapped. Moreover, when the Tower of God appeared, I felt like it suddenly got inserted into the story out of nowhere that's why I kinda lost the motivation to continue so I stopped. But recently, I was in the mood to reread this novel so I read from the very beginning and thankfully this time, I finished it. When I read this novel for the 2nd time, I had a more lighthearted intake of it and found the MC still silly yet adorable & funny.

I also like the part where at the end of every chapter, the author includes an excerpt from the OG story so the readers can compare the differences between what happened on that chapter versus what really happened in the original

Regarding the ending, the perfect way to describe it is that everyone lived happily ever after—literally everyone. Although I have no qualms about a happy ending, it almost felt like it was too "happy" in my opinion, like not too realistic at all. It was quite obvious that it's an ending meant to satisfy the readers since "all is well". Also, it felt rushed.

Anyway, my real rating of this story is around 4.3-4.5 but since I'm extremely satisfied with the ML & MC's relationship, I gave it 5 ⭐️ I could 100% attest that the reader and protagonist definitely have to be in true love ❤️👍 <<less

I love everything about this novel, even the description of the protagonist of the novel's inner thoughts. He's an ideal ML because he has every element that makes him likable having suffered throughout his childhood it's logical his love for the MC is possessive. Other than the way MC voiced out his adoration for our ML he is crafty with his antifan antics and how he uses his knowledge about the novel world to help out our ML. I wouldn't say he's a gary stu who knows it all and... more>> completes all missions he set his eyes on with flying colors but he manages to be admirable and loving which is not something every narrator is able to do.

The story is very engaging and I kept wanting to read until the end of the story. I love this type of novel where our MC transmigrate but in this novel he did not become a minor character/the bad cannon fodder which is a new breath of fresh air.

Spoiler

The ending they ended up together in an HE setting after the MC went back to his own world. But I still think that it's not that good because he'll need to use a puppet that'll function in his stead and go to another dimension to meet our ML. I just kind of wish that he'll be with the ML 24/7 without puppet involved and that maybe the memories of him be erased from his family. But then again I guess this is how the author compromises with the ending to make it HE for everyone even minor character's like the MC's family.

i love this so much thank you so much translator! Author and editor and those sponsor 😭💓😍

our MC is really! silly and cute right!?😂😁 in half of story he always thought thats he's just a reader and he always got exciting when they journey with ML, he feel excited bcs his favourite novel and protagonist can see them in live! he always thought, this young man is here to help you to collect your harems and help you to became A supreme God.. that's the reason why sometimes I got... more>> irritated to him Duh!🙄 he already knew the ML had once naively believed in goodness, but even the people he rescued betrayed him. He was abandoned and betrayed by all his friends and allies. Whenever he still chose to believe in people, he would just be betrayed again and again, repeatedly hurt until he was on the verge of death — it was only then that his faith in others was destroyed. (and no wonder somes reader called him Useless and idiot and s*upid!) 😂😁 ofc he's nothing but ordinary silly. cute reader, he only have a O-poits thats why even he's body cut into pieces then he recovers soon he also can't to explain to ML that's he's from another world and this novel and you are Protagonist and I'm reader.. he can't say this or spoilers the story...

while the ML😭😭 he loves the MC so much he only one he trusts him😭 he will do anything to protect the MC, he's so possessive and obsessed with MC😁😂 I really love the ML😭.

.

3.5 stars for this and one star for how author portrayed the MC.

The MC here isn't OP but just a normal person. But what I liked most about the MC is, he isn't like some s*upid novels where MC behaves like some delicate flower. Come on! Even girls are not like that okay!

So yep although Author showed that MC was week and a normal person, he wasn't some delicate flower from those s*upid novels.

The story was a new concept probably or just a mix up or everything to make it... more>> seem new.

I understand what author was trying to portray but the way it was portrayed might not be understood by everyone.

Also the smut part was with lots of blood and pain. Actually, it didn't affected me much since I skimmed through half of it and even skipped half of the smut part.

So if you just skip smut part too you might won't dislike it that much.

Also, I somehow can't connect to the characters. Once again, if written in a different way it might have stand out more.

Once again, I would appreciate, how the author didn't made MC some delicate flower despite being weak. <<less
