The Reader and Protagonist Definitely Have to Be in True Love

Description

An internet troll who wanted attention, the reader criticized his favorite web novel, saying: “The protagonist is dumb and the author is s*upid.”

Author: “…Got it.”

Unfortunately for him, the author actually listened to his (troll) feedback. The formerly lighthearted tale of a cute harem master suddenly became super dark and edgy. The reader could only helplessly look on as the protagonist was ab*sed and betrayed, finally embarking on the road to becoming completely evil. Everything was a mess!

After that the reader transmigrated into a strange world. How come the person in front of him looks like the protagonist (evil undead version)? Just what is going on?!

Note: Du Zhe (读者 meaning Reader) and Du Ze (杜泽 the character’s name) sound almost the same

Hmm.. Rated this 4 stars. I would have like to put 5 stars but im kind of bothered on how the story was written. Its not about how the plot goes, its more like sometimes I cant understand where the story is going. I sometimes felt that something is missing or think that have I miss something? For me its like story is jumping from one place to another so I dont really like the early chapters. I just read them to past the time. Even if I kinda connect... more>> to the later chapters I still felt that something is missing sometimes.

However, the plot is great, the characters is developed nicely, even the rated 18 scenes are well thought off.

I loved how possessive the ML is. And how naively cute the MC was. I just want to know if the ML decided to live in the real world together with the MC. Or the MC decided to come back to the novel and live together with the ml. <<less

Lots of reviewers are complaining about the Reader (Du Ze) and how quiet and socially awkward he is, but he's not the problem in this book.

My *real* gripe is the Protagonist (Xiu). This character is as thin as wet tissue paper. Let's set aside his gorgeous looks and OP fighting skills for now. He basically has TWO personality traits, 1) He trusts nobody, except the Reader 2) He's psychotically possessive with the Reader. That's it!

The Reader, who at least gets the usual internal monologue common to all transmigrated people, is... more>> actually the most interesting character in the whole book. He's got a proper backstory, his quirks are explained, his deafness and social awkwardness make him unique, and he develops throughout his many adventures.

The Protagonist, meanwhile, is a one-note creation who can be depended on to do only the two things mentioned above. I assume he's got a proper backstory in the original "Mixed Blood" novel, because the author helpfully tells us that he starts as a Human, goes to school with various other characters, then gets betrayed and disappears into the Lost Land. These are not spoilers, they happen OFF SCREEN before the MC and ML even meet.

Thanks to this much skipping of the Protagonist's backstory, I still don't have any idea of who he is, and I'm halfway through the book.

The Reader has a logical justification for why HE doesn't really know the Protagonist's likes or dislikes, but there's no excuse for US not knowing that. <<less

First of all, props to the translator. Amazing job!

Being influenced by some more negative reviews, I was kind of reluctant to read it. But I am really happy I did. Once I got into the novel, I was pretty much hooked.

I really liked the premise of the novel, which, although not completely original, had some outstanding points: the MC is a black powder fan who transmigrated into the novel, but the reader does not follow the stereotypical OP transmigrator route, but is true to his role as a reader (more... more>> passive and therefore no need for too much strength). I also really like that he is set up as almost deaf (it gives the MC more depth and makes him stand out)

I also very much enjoyed the interactions between MC and ML, and I do not find the ML to be that much of an unreasonable as*hole in the beginning, because (given his backstory) his behavior kind of makes sense. So I can't blame him for that. I like how they gradually develop feelings, and how dependent they actually get of each other.

Of course, there are some parts that were less amazing, some arcs even a little bit bland, but overall the story is really nice, and it finishes strong.

I would totally recommend it ! Do not get too discouraged by negative reviews. Just read 10 chapters first and judge for yourself ! <<less

One of my favorite BL novels out there. The 2 days straight binge reading was really worth it.

P.S. Thank you, BC Novels, for translating this one :)

Ah, really enjoyed it. I couldn't even help myself from reading it over and over again. It's just so good, ah!

This is actually perfect. It has everything - fast release (now complete!), great love story, plenty of action, plenty of H (you know what I mean) action, comedy, fast-paced plot, and likeable characters.

100% recommend this to all BL lovers who enjoy reading fantasy. Truly a 5 star reading experience.

If there's anything I want to complain about, it's that I wish it had more chapters! I feel like with 20 more chapters they could have explored more of the plot and expanded the epilogue. My mind was absolutely blown by... more>> the ending. That was the first time I saw that type of ending in a BL story. It was awesome. <<less

*WARNING: THERE ARE HEAVY SMUT SCENES

As a hardcore fujoshi, I am totally satisfied with the amount of detailed smut scenes in this novel! There is consensual s*x, mutual feelings, and a happy ending, so what more could one ask for! Who cares for plot holes in bl novels as long as the main characters are cute together!

Actually, if I could, I would like more fluff scenes in the novel since the characters of our MC and ML is... kinda bland?

... more>> Characters:

The MC is a disabled college student who requires hearing aids, is anti-social, and an introvert. The MC is transmigrated into his favorite novel and as the title suggests, the MC and main protagonist (or antagonist?) of the novel falls in love. Because the MC suffers from social awkwardness, he can't express himself well, which would be cute and all except for the fact that the MC continues to suffer from social awkwardness throughout the rest of the novel. Basically, the MC never fixed his speech problem and rarely ever talks, which can be frustrating for some readers. On the other hand, the ML is one of those cold, aloof, op characters that rarely talks, but express his emotions through actions, which may be one of the reasons why there are so many smut scenes huehuehue~ Because the ML have 9? (I think it was 9) different forms, he likes to screw the MC in every single form~

Plot:

The storyline is pretty straightforward. The original goal of the MC after transmigrating is to make sure the storyline of the novel is the same as the one he read about, which is to make sure the ML becomes op and to gather a harem for the ML. In the end, of course, the MC only realized half his goal as the ML does become op, but the harem dream was destroyed near the beginning of the story as the ML started to make his move on the MC. There are, like most transmigration novels, plenty of plot holes and plot armor that pops up in the story, but we'll ignore all that since the main focus is on the romantic development between the MC and ML as well as their smut scenes.

Overall, the personality of the MC is on the meek/submissive side while the ML is your typical h**ny-driven, stamina-high type of top. *little spoiler*: The hilarious part of the story is when the MC actually transmigrated while holding onto a smutty doujinshi manga of the novel! Because of the dj, the MC does his best to avoid showing it to the ML who is piqued by the *ahem* many pages of different s*x positions displayed in the dj.

I highly recommend this novel to all fujoshis out there! This novel is a gem!

Reminder to read this novel in a private area in case you're caught wearing a pe*verted smile or having a nosebleed in public. <<less

Amazing story. An absolute masterpiece! ... more>>
Spoiler

So it begins with the reader named Du Ze who is reading a novel called Mixed Blood, it's about a protagonist called Xiu, who has the blood of all 8 tribes, dragons, elves, dwarfs, humans, angels, demons, beastkin, and the undead. Du Ze is a black powder fan, a hater on the surface but a fan on the inside, he makes a comment about how the protagonist should die. The author actually makes it happen and makes poor Xiu evil. Then Du Ze is transported into the world of Mixed Blood and is faced with Xiu, who is exhausted after he flees to the Lost Land. Xiu, right now, is in the form of a undead, Du Ze discovers that every midnight his body always returns to its perfect state, so he kisses Xiu, which in turn starts sucking out his life energy or something. Then Xiu recovers and hooray, timeskip 2 years I think?

[collapse]
Well anyway, Xiu awakens his bloodlines and falls in love with Du Ze. The tower of God appears, Xiu along with Du Ze and his other followers enter. By this time Xiu has awakened all his bloodlines except the angel's. They get through it and is met with the Final Boss (or not?), the God Of Light. Xiu battles with him and he sacrificed himself to deliever a huge blow that doesn't kill Xiu since he as the protagonist halo. Though this does kinda kill Du Ze. Du Ze is met with The God Of Creation which tells him that he is the only one that can kill Xiu. The God Of Creation explains that even he can't kill Xiu, that 'the rules' prevent him and that only one that is not from this world can kill Xiu. Du Ze tells the God Of Creation that the world of Mixed Blood is a novel, that the god is a villain and that Xiu is the protagonist. This angers the god incredibly. Du Ze wakes up and Xiu is facing off with the God Of Creation. Xiu kills the god and Du Ze, because the God Of Creation was the one who summoned him to this world, disappears and returns back to his world. Xiu becomes the new God. Sad Ending.... ;-;.

Or not? One day, the author of Mixed Blood announces that he will not continue to write Mixed Blood. This makes Du Ze depressed. But fear not! Xiu somehow appears in the modern world and hugs Du Ze. They name their story "The Reader and Protagonist Definitely Have To Be in True Love". The TRUE End.. Btw if you want to know, the first spoiler is the beginning while the second spoiler is the ending. I'd definitely reread this!~ This story deserves five stars or above. <<less

I was not expecting much from this. But it was so, so much better than I could have ever imagined. Xiu is both frightful and dear, a perfect yandere character whose actions and thoughts are completely understandable considering his past. Du Ze is absolutely adorable and I love how he thinks like a reader. He’s never OP and remains weak, but that doesn’t lessen his presence at all. He’s one of my favourite MCs ever. The story itself is intriguing and varies. There’s hunour, angst, and moments that really make... more>> me reflect
Spoiler

for example, during the angel trial, Xiu talks to Eric about how it is not the people that he’s protecting, it is the idea of justice that he is protecting whereas Xiu does not have such biases

. I love how meta this is and how everything is explained in the end. The ending is both fantastical but feels real. It is everything I wanted (HE). I love, love this novel to bits and love, as well as hate the fact that I’ve finished it. My standards have definitely risen with such quality storywriting. I want to thank the translator, BCNovels for providing such quality translations and detailed foot notes. Read this, you won’t regret it. <<less

Pretty unique story (at least for me). The author uses a lot of descriptive language that some people might not get, but the translator's footnotes are good.

The characters aren't that developed besides a select few, but it's okay, since the select few are interesting. The MC is adorkable and the ML is pretty cool.

Eh, it was a decent read.

Is there anything more satisfying than reading a LN that's already been completely translated? After getting into the BL LN genre, I picked up TRAP (haha) from the rave reviews and the tantalizing "Completed" tag. I'm here to add an irritated and confused review, or basically a would recommend with many complaints.

First off, as an obsessive fan of the King's Avatar, Yi Ye Zhi Qui?? Come on, that's obviously a reference to the gaming God. Not to mention the Thousand Forms weapon that the ML has. Much appreciated reference to... more>> my favorite novel.

Thank god this novel was completely translated, and done quite well, bc even though it was translated, it was still the most confusing novel I've read yet. The novel shifts from the MC's viewpoint to the ML's viewpoint to the original story to other things and it's just really hard to keep track of what is happening when they change. From some context, you can usually figure it out, but it can be pretty annoying. I would echo some comments that I've seen where the MC needs to get out the fantasies and the plot that he originally read, especially since the characteristics and conditions that they have are now different than before. That being said, he is an obsessive chunni so it's pretty reasonable, and when he does realize it, it's much improved. My biggest annoyance is the constant use of the hearing aid battery trope. The author keeps on making MC's hearing aid battery run out and then do some important discussion/talk that he has no idea what he's doing, to increase drama and confusion. Please. You've pulled that many times already. I got tired of that by the 5th time. Luckily it was less used in the later half of the novel.

Don't be fooled by the Comedy tag. This is basically a really dramatic tragedy for almost the entire story, with how much drama and raw emotion that happens between the MC and ML. God, it's almost disturbing sometimes what happens. For someone who loves generally amusing and comedic (often cultivation) fare, the angst is so strong you can almost feel it clawing at your heart and mind. Sigh, why are all of these MM stories like this.

That being said, this is a beautiful, beautiful story. Throughout the novel, there are so many yandere parts of the ML that were insanely emotional and heart wrenching that I reread multiple times. (Chapter 29, a total favorite) Black box comments are amazing, they just have so much raw emotion in them and it's just unbelievable. Adorable, but disturbing. I'm not sure I would like to read another book with yanderes tbqh. The MC in general is really cute as well, I love having tsundere MCs who aren't actually the annoying tsunderes (I'm thinking Toradora rn), but the MC is able to grow and interact adorably with the ML. The romance is definitely the focus here, which I am all for. I cried torrents of tears close to the end, that's when you know the emotion is so real it's physically painful. The story is also so meta that your brain starts to hurt. Would recommend, with caution. <<less

This story is so amazing!!

At first it seems kinda 2 dimensional with a touch of comedy, but with time the characters really show their true worth. There's a reason for their behavior and once you learn their backstory, everything makes sense. It isn't just a stone faced MC and a yandere ML. This people have depth and there's reason behind their behavior. Plus the side characters have personality and aren't just there to fill blank space. They each have their own role and help the couple move forward one way... more>> or another

Story pacing is great. Doesn't seem rushed and the two have time to develop feelings instead of going from nothing to love at the snap of a finger. There are so many ups and downs and they face so many emotional and physical trials and you can really tell how they grow and learn from each one.

The author really does a good job answering questions in a way that doesn't seem forced. Why does the MC go to this other world? Why do they (MC and ML) behave the way they do? How does MC have the 'cheat ability' he has? How does this one thing lead to this other one much later on in the story? It gets answered!!

I love love love this story and I would definitely recommend this to others. The translation is top notch too <<less

ML's development throughout the story, and MC's growth despite his own troubles really make for a great read. Weaving through all of this is their cute romance, and to be honest I love a yandere ML more than I can express.

I personally would love a bit more of the xianxia (or whatever it is in this case) aspect, but this story really doesn't need it--what's included is quite excellent.

It's also worth noting that the translations are done very well, the translator includes cute art from the manga, and the updates are frequent. Don't skip this one if you like BL, and consider it if you are curious. <<less

I love this novel - not only is it extremely funny and cute, but the way it keeps playing up the tropes of the webnovel genres is fantastic. The relationship between the two main characters is wonderful, s the perfect marriage of two people who are equally socially inept but in different ways - Xiu has lost all understanding of positive emotions but compensates by being increasingly possessive of the only thing that makes him happy while Du Ze is both deadpan by nature and too preoccupied with cursing the... more>> author of the original story to notice his own feelings.
