The first rebirth novel I ever read and it has certainly set the bar high. The story is satisfying to read and is a page turner. There's not a ton of romance scenes in the beginning since a lot of time is spent on back story and revenge, but the limited moments are impactful. You can really feel the chemistry between the FL and ML in those scenes.

Best novel I've read so far! I don't think anyone can defeat our empress in revenge/historical genre. If this is going to be adapted to a drama, good luck finding the best ML/FL! The bar was set tooooo high, and this is not just because of the physical appearance.

I usually avoid josei (I'm male), but I decided to give this a try and it's really good. MC is properly ruthless and gets revenge on those who try to harm her, not shying away from some pretty cruel methods when they're the most effective. Lots of smart plotting and the romance is better than I expected. The ML is better than other josei/shoujo that I've read... he's still an overbearing a**hole, but at least there's no s*xual assault?

There are definitely some things I really dislike (some really forced drama... more>> a couple times, for example), and there are a few plot holes and forgotten things. Despite that, I highly recommend reading this if you're in the mood for ruthless scheming. <<less

this is so well done I actually cried twice 😭 im more of a shoujo girl so romance is a big deal for me! this novel really focused on the plot and revenge arcs and if it weren’t for the satisfying results I would’ve dropped this lol the romance between the leads would barely fit 8 chapters collectively 💀 but it was so good!!!!

My first Chinese reincarnation novel. Probably because of this, I've special place in my heart.

MC Shen Miao although reincarnated, doesn't become OP at once. The "revenge" that she takes is mostly step by step process rather than just one move that other reincarnation trope follows.

ML Xie Jing, is strong and OP. But because it is shown how strong he is rather than just saying, it doesn't become too repetitive even until the end.

This read has quite the elaborate scheme of revenge. It's an enjoyable journey without the dragging plotline. Each character introduced has a clear outline and purpose in the story. If you are a critique of details, there's not much to be critical about. As for the translation, the use of language and punctuation could be improved.

The MC is surrounded by enemies and is constantly harrassed and schemed against. This is not the kind of story I like. I like more peaceful stories.

Whenever I find a good read, I always think of the author. How big was her imagination to weave a tale as intricate as this? How deep were her emotions that we can feel them through her words? I'm so in awe of this work that others of this genre paled in comparison. I have never much liked watching dramas but this sure made me feel as if I'm watching one. Reading it in 2 days is not in vain.

I love a good female character but Shen Miao sure had me worshipping her. This is what I always hope to read about--- a powerful woman who can get things done herself (regardless of the rebirth cheat). Our ML sure made things easy, but that doesn't mean our MC wouldn't be able to pull through alone. She pulled through in her last life albeit it ended in tragedy; her rebirth was in no way smoother but she sure pulled though more valiantly.

The face-slappings weren't trivial. More like, "You lose along with your life."

ML sure is the epitome of female fantasies, one who is fearless and seemed incapable of mistake. So perfect right? Isn't that why we read? 100% recommended! It's a real revenge story and she doesn't end up with the s*um all over again. Also, it doesn't just solely revolved in revenge, there's also her parents, friends, and power struggles! She doesn't lose herself and finally had a happy ending after enduring a sad past life. A very very ruthless MC. Ruthless to her enemies and also to herself. ML is very OP and also very ruthless.

The cons: a reall slowburn. At this point, they are still enemies and ML has just warned MC to never fall in love with him and to never touch things that are not her rights.

I think that this at a certain point stated to feel like a report on how people died. I wish there was more space for some tenderness going towards the end, but the author instead opted for even more useless obstacles for some reason.

The translation is not bad, but it's filled with countless typos and misspellings, which were a bit bothering.

To be honest, out of all characters I loathe the most, Pei lang is the worst. In this novel, there are numerous hateful characters like her cousins, FXY, and other princes, but my hate for pei lang is just on an otherworldly level. I havent find comments about their hate to him here which suprises me after all that he has done. When I found out about what he did I was so broken and I just cried like somebody dug out my heart. Its just I hate him so fckn much. So I wrote a letter to Pei Lang.

You took it from her body and deliver it to the person she's most insecure too, the person that destroys her very best life. When I read the reviews in most of the novels in this genre (revenge and rebirth) when FL personally takes revenge or does it in some way out of our comfort zone, some readers say she is too ruthless, too unreasonable, villainess, too OP, etc.

Some say why she did this cruel thing when the one who hurt her in her past life hasn't done anything in this life and etc.

There is also another case. FL let's others (most of the time ML) handle the revenge for her. again some readers complain that she is useless, she let others do the job and why she didn't do it herself and etc.

(I saw these reviews under so many of the novels in this site and I felt the need to address this one. Because I love this novel)

Back to the novel.

Shen miao is in both categories mentioned above.

In the first half, she can be said to be ruthless in her revenge. She is single mindedly plotting and she does it brilliantly. (within her CAPABILITY)

She is firstly a victim. A lonely and deeply traumatised and abandoned empress who has lost everything.

Her family, her children, her status, her dignity and in the end her life. She is alone. And honestly she is miserable.

She can't smile or be happy even in her second chance in life. Revenge is all she thinks about and to some degrees she has lost her ability to empathise with or trust anyone, even her parents and brother feels like strangers to her.

In second half, she finally found someone she can rely on. Someone she can trust and share her burden with and let him take revenge for her.

Because hey! She isn't omnipotent.

I don't know if you have noticed, but she was still 16 in her rebirth! 16 years old girl with NO POWER.

She might be able to get revenge from her family and plot againt a tr*sh, sadistic and nauseating s*um prince, BUT, even that is indirect!

The first one relied on her father's power and the second one was relied on the ML (behind the scenes) and another victim's family.

So even then, it wasn't done solely by her! Because it is impossible for a lone 16 years old girl!

And even if she was once an empress, now she isn't.

She can't overturn the imperial family with her intelligence only.

Xie Jing Xing taking revenge for her was the best way.

Besides, she still managed to do the plotting behind the scene! Mei furen got what she deserved because of shen miao. And the emperor was stripped from his dignity. He became a laughing stock and it was all shen miao's doing!

Even the fast success in war was due to Xie Jing Xing and shen miao's combined strategy!
