Shen Miao, the Di daughter of a military family, was pure, quiet, gentle, and gracious. Because of her foolish love for Prince Ding, she forced her way into becoming his wife.

After six years of assisting her husband, she finally became the mother of the world: The Empress.

She had stayed with him during the fight for dominion over the empire and during the efforts to expand its territory. She even went so far as to put herself in danger and be taken hostage by a neighboring empire. In spite of this, when she returned to the Imperial Palace five years later, she no longer had a place in the Imperial Harem.

That beautiful woman he kept in his embrace gave her a bright, stunning smile and told her, “Older Sister, the country has settled down. It is time for you to step back as well.”

Her daughter died tragically and her son the Crown Prince was deposed. No one in her Shen family, who had been completely loyal to the Emperor, were spared. With arrival of a new reign, everything was overturned!

Shen Miao never thought that all of the perils they encountered as husband and wife, all of the assistance they gave each other mutually, were nothing but a joke in his eyes!

He told her, “Because you have been with this Emperor for more than two decades, this Emperor will allow you to keep an intact corpse. You should be grateful for this kindness.”

Beneath a meter of white silk, Shen Miao established a malicious oath: Once the day of reckoning arrives, every single one of you will die!

Once reborn, she returns to the year when she was only fourteen years old, a time when tragedy has not yet befallen, when her family still lived, and when she was still the pure, quiet, gentle, and gracious Di daughter of a military family.

Close relatives conceal evil intentions, her cousins are vicious and merciless, the new concubine is like tiger watching its prey and that s*um wants the previous life’s events to be repeated?

Her family must be protected, the great enmity must be avenged, and the prize must include the empire’s imperial throne. In this lifetime, let us see who comes out on top!

But that Xie Family’s young marquis, that tyrannical and arrogant spear-wielding young man on horseback, stays stubbornly on her side and proudly declares, “It is merely toppling the Imperial Family. Do not forget, the world belongs to you, and you—you belong to me!”

The Thirteen Capitals of You Zhou: This belongs to you.

The Ding Yuan City in the North Desert: This belongs to you.

The Southern River of Yu Zhou, the Eastern Sea of Ding Xi, the Green Lakes of Lin’an, the Ancient City of Luo Yang: All of these belong to you.

“Xie Jing Xing, if all of this belongs to me, then can you tell me what you want?”

“Alright, I want you.”

Such a wonderful story. My favorite male lead ever.

The political and familial plot is really well written.

Thanks a lot to the translator, I'll add just a little note, there's a difference between the chapters that were edited and those which weren't. For such a good novel it would have been a huge gift to have all the chapters edited to have an easiest read, but I'm thankful for the work put by the translator. :)

very good indeed, although the author has left some loose ends here and there.

there is a lot of machination and the development of the romance between shen miao and xjx is slow and very satisfying.

just feeling hateful after xjx and shen miao's wedding, like, lol, she just wasn't as impressive as she was at the beginning.

I would like the author to develop the relationship of xie shu and xie wu with grandfather and grandmother, and also uncle, it would be so lovely.😍

It's a long ride, but I got to say that this is amazing story with a good plotline. Maybe the ML is over the top, but I really love him.

Definitely my cup of tea.

Easily one of the best novels I've ever read. I felt that the side stories were a bit OOC, but this is a must read. The schemes, the romance development, the absolutely outstanding translation of zazajunnie and team... I can't recommend highly enough. Easy 11/10.

Honestly, my favorite even to this day. It was one of the first webnovels I read and I don't think any novels I read since could really leave as much of an impact on me than this novel. There were moments where the MC did something that I find uncomfortable, ... more>>
Spoiler

like when her aunt planned to have her get r*ped by the prince but the MC replaced herself with her aunts daughter (aka her cousin). But make no mistake, her cousin isn't innocent at all. But I guess I'm the type to be like "we're the product of our environment" so honestly while I understood why she did it, it made me uncomfortable. However, that won't make me like the novel any less because I'm not the MC, I haven't been through the sh*t she did so if I try to look through her point of view, it's not that bad. And I like that, the way that I can't fully comprehend and support the mc's actions because I haven't had her experiences. Also the writing of this novel is really good.

[collapse]

While I was reading this, one thing I was worried about is if all the mc's intelligence simply lies in the fact that she knows the future. But then when something unexpected comes up, she uses her experiences and knowledge to solve it and it honestly made me glad. I feel like to many novels have an MC that is deemed as intelligent when in reality it's simply because they know what will happen or everyone around her is simply dumb. Small detail, but I like that she decides to read and study up on some military books, make everything she does more realistic as the knowledge would have to come from somewhere. Basically, I like that what the MC does and her knowledge are all within the realm of reality. And honestly, I like the mc's calmness. That's something that I wish to have, the amount of situations I wouldn't have been in if only I stayed calm.

The romance to this is slow, or maybe I should say late? I avoid stories with slow or late romance however I either missed the tag of it here, or I simply just didn't it would be that slow or late, but it's fine because it's interesting in the meantime. Also the romance is more realistic, it's gradual and slow but it's satisfying. After all it's a bit off for people to fall at first sight (not impossible, it's just a bit overdone). I really like the ml.
Spoiler

Also, I'm not very clear on their age gap. I'm pretty sure it's about four years? It's said that the the ML was about to turn nineteen (i believe) when she was 14. Could be wrong but that's one thing I wish the author wrote the time and the age better, the time in the novel to me is a bit messy.

[collapse]
Anyways, I would love to have myself the ML in this story lmao

In conclusion, this is my favorite and Shen Miao is my role model. I tend to avoid novels that don't have the action or some sort of fighting element, but this is fine. Anyways, read it. <<less

I literally just made an account to say: TRMEML is the GOAT of this genre. F*cking outstanding.

Intricate, satisfying schemes. Just the right amount of ruthlessness. Well developed lovable/hatable characters. Perfect balance of romance. DOES IT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS.

I heard rumblings that this novel is getting a drama adaption and I couldn't be more excited. I am not a visual reader at all typically, but there were so many dramatic and funny moments that I could envision so clearly throughout the novel. Can't wait.

Obviously a huge thanks to the... more>> translators, but I will say that it's a shame this doesn't have an official/more coherent translation. It gets a bit mind numbing sometimes, as chinese doesn't MTL too well. I think I'll re-read someday if a better translation is ever completed.

Other minor complaints on plot points:

Spoiler
  • The schemes are sub-par at the ch180 or so mark because 1) XJX is too OP and magically solves any problem and 2) SM doesn't have much useful knowledge in Great Liang. I feel like the way the crown prince of both ming qi and qin were so easily simultaneously wiped out was ridiculous. The marriage-offers arc was also a bit oover the top, though still entertaining. Great Liang's political environment was unrealistically simple. I didn't like how Mei furen and her brother randomly showed up and thought her ending was a bit unsatisfying. I especially hate how the entire last arc, XJX was just "off at war" wiping everyone out while SM was preggers at home. I wanted her to take Mei Furen and Fu Xiu Yi out herself!!
  • The very very last chapters about SM being in a coma and having to go into a dream for 6 months to find XJX were unexpectedly s*upid. Not really sure what that was all about. What makes SM and XJX's romance great is the slow burn from extremely distrustful independent masterminds to allies to lovers, so I don't find it romantic at all how she was able to immediately approach him and get him to randomly take her to Great Liang.
  • I personally think Shen Dong Ling was a missed opportunity-- I feel like her arc was super repetitive/predictable and she would have been a much cooler ally, or even a close ally-turned-traitor for SM.
  • This sounds wack but I actually would have liked for SM and XJX to have faced more failure. Obviously it isn't as satisfying in the moment but it makes it way more realistic and the final retribution to be better.
[collapse]

Favorite moments/quotes:

Spoiler
  • "Then with you comforting me like this, it would make me have the illusion that you and I are on the same road." "Who says it is not?"
  • “Do you find that I am cruel?” “One does not think so as I am also the same.” “Then do you know that I am not a good person?” “I know, I am also the same.” “You asked if I want to wipe out Ming Qi. If I say yes, will you report me?” “No. Because I am also the same.”
  • I was legit crying tears of blood when SM sang her daughter's song for Mei furen in Great Liang. Every time she mentions her children I get choked up.

    • Excellent plot. The intrigues and political affairs are well thought, crafted, and finely fused
    • The main characters deserves to be called the protagonists. They could save and protect their selves in unpredictable situations and doesn't need to fully rely on each others protection.
    • Slow burn romance but was worth the wait. The settings and their characters made me much more accept why their romance weren't that fast paced and rushed. It seems more realistic to me too.
    • The face slapping scenes are very satisfying, stimulating, and exciting
    • Most especially what I really love in this novel is that there is a reason why basically the female lead had gone to rebirth and the reason isn't just lousy, lame and was randomly made to fill the plot.
Just read it honey and you won't regret it.

If it weren't for the lackluster and pointlessly dramatic ending I would have given this 5 stars.

Despite that, I recommend it. The dynamic between the two leads is quite enjoyable, and the politicking interesting for the most part.

This novel is really, really great. Shen Miao isn't an omnipotent character and she constantly keeps herself in check (she doesn't show off and only accepts a challenge because she has practiced that skill hundreds of thousands of times until she perfected it in her previous life). I really admired her humbleness and strong work ethic throughout the novel; she schemes so well because she did all the prep work beforehand to make sure her plans are properly executed.

The encounter between the FL and ML was also pretty interesting. The... more>> ML (Xie Jing Xing) throws a wrench in her plans and she does the same by dropping sentences with huge implications. Although they are continuously at odds and the ML is constantly watching the FL to see if she needs to be eliminated (and backing her up against a wall hehe), their romance is also extremely well-paced. This is because Shen Miao realizes that her vengeance and thoughts that it is okay to lose her life in order to carry out her revenge is not her sole purpose for being reborn; she truly wants to protect her family and stay alive with them (and this needed time for her to figure out). When she realizes that she wants to live, her plans end up coinciding with the ML's and they both instinctively worry about the other, despite each of them taking on so much emotional burden.

Yes, it's kinda trite when the ML is like "I'm not a good person" but he is such a well thought-out character, with HUGE goals but also the smarts to make his ambitions happen (this applies to the FL too). I also really like that they had a 2 year gap when they didn't see each other. While the ML was making his rounds in the battlefield, the FL was establishing her reputation as a mature lady with an intelligent head on her shoulders (she had every intention of going back to the capital city and stirring up trouble when her family had stable power). When the ML and MC reunite, his courting was 10/10.

Spoiler

Get you a mans that kicks your crazy rival in love into the middle of a lake (after she had the audacity to push you in first) and proceeds to laugh like he isn't the only possible person that could have done that. If that wasn't enough, he gets rid of that crazy women in a way that ruins her reputation, even after her death. Damn.

[collapse]

The novel's take on the "red string of fate" made me feel really emotional (and also really happy because wow, I thought I didn't believe in fate throughout two lifetimes but now I do I guess).

Although a lot of the villains meet brutal ends, I felt that the way Shen Miao and Xie Jing Xing handled them were really effective. Shen Miao's childbirth struggle really had me in tears but the ending + epilogue really made up for the emotional damage it did. All in all, I loved this novel and would 10/10 recommend. <<less

This is one of my favorite rebirth novels and authors. Its also one of my favorite pseudo historical setting fantasies. The entire time I read it, I just pictured it being made into a live action show juxtaposing and expanding upon scenes from her first life and her new life. It would slowly unfurl the mystery of just what happened to her and those she loved that would justify how far she goes to protect and avenge them. Think game of thrones but fewer characters. It does have some weak... more>> or overly mary sue/OP characterization at parts, but overall its got decent world building, complex characters, and one of the strongest set ups for the rebirth and vengeance sub genre. <<less

amazing; it is kinda long (for a novel in general, for ancient china novels it is pretty short) but nothing felt unnecessary - the few moments that nothing major happened were needed so that the reader didn't tire out; really nice rebirth/revenge/romance drama, I liked how the antagonists mostly just fell into their own traps; the MC has a pretty tragic life in her last life and was formed and matured through that, ML and MC have really good chemistry and I love the build-up of their relationship; It is... more>> also pretty emotional at times and especially the dream where MC found out about everything that happened left me with kind of complex feelings.

Definitely recommend checking it out :) <<less

I really like it and I didn't regret reading this. Actually I was blessed to meet them first and fall for them first. It is a good story for me and maybe you guys can also find it interesting.

First of all, the story building is good may it be the characters, the setting or the back story of each character. The regret, motivation and pain of losing the childern of FL coming from the previous world is heartfelt.

*I don't know how spoiler alert works lol*

Spoiler

She did not forget them and was actually not willing to let them go in the first part of the story (i think taoist priest highlighted it by saying she will only wake up after she put down her grievances and past? It's the first passing out of FL I think when she was attacked)

[collapse]

Her and the ML's scheming are balanced without any party overshadowing the other. Their interactions and the little hint of the author that FL's heart speeding up is cute. (*the author reasoned that she didn't know that feeling... Then is her admiration for that jerk of a husband in her previous life did not go through that phase of heart beating fast?😆)

I also appreciate the way the author put it in a way where each world has some connection with the other like the emotions and gut feels traveling together with the person.

I won't elaborate it completely. I just knew that I love this story and is worth the read.

Absolutely love the plot twists and I don't know if I'm just being sentimental because it felt attached to me. (The sentimental scenes are painful. Just that, why did the previous empress who is always calm acted recklessly leaving behind everything to FL?) <<less

Gods, I really love this series. I've reread it so many times! There's no love at first sight; it's a good, gradual build-up from two two-faced snakes (awesome). There's closure with the past life for the readers and the characters. I love that both ML and FL are pretty emotionally constipated (for their own reasons) and stubborn, but know when enough is enough and when to bend and communicate. I love that there's an explanation for the rebirth. I love that it's a rebirth that has its own tolls (not... more>> like hardships, but like, a toll it took on her actual soul). It's just SO. FEAKIN. GOOD.

I'll reread this countless more times~♡ <<less

This is the first I'll rate a novel a 4 star.

First, the premise is extremely solid. Cliche as it may but everything still depends on the hook. And the author didn't neglect so there's a fish in the table.

Second, the plot are thick and complex but still easy to follow. There might be some stretch but it is still good for me. It is refreshing after reading hundreds of books, only few can be as complex yet simple as this one, unlike those so-called 5 stars novels yet the plot... more>> are just repeatative and little-to-no flavor. This is also the large reason why I give 4 stars. The only problem is that FuYu Xi and Mei furen's ending isn't satisfactory.

The descriptions made one vomit though. It just destroy the immersion by describing everything in minute details till needles weren't spared. It just thickened the word count and withuout it, the plot still flows. I only like the description about tea, wine, and embrodery but others nah. The frequent descriptions of the MC and ML really one want to slam own head.

I wont nitpick with Shen Miao and Xie Jing Xhin interaction. The romance is only okay for me. Sweet but I didn't get butterflies in my stomach. It was instead the drama that got me crying especially with previous Emperor and Empressof Great Liang. A fragrant wine, sweet at first taste but cannot hidden the mixture of sourness and bitterness. Yet, one cannot help but indulge with each gulp. A love to death.

Last, the only glaring shortcoming of this novel are the misspellings, adverbs, redundancy, passive verbs, parallel structure, incorrect words, present tense then became past tense then present tense again and so on. There's inkling or shadow of MTL or google translate. Ah headache. Is thisauthor's mistake or translator? Fortunately I persisted till the end. I still able to immerse myself because I changed the words and sentences in my mind. Without that...

Anyways, it was a good ride. Really good read. Though if given a second chance, I want Xie Jing Xin to be not as great as he was written. Shen Miao looked like pheasant after they got married. Not as vicious as she was in the first part. <<less

I am not sure if I could be able to fully review the beauty and complexity of this novel.

This is my favorite chinese novel of all times. I have reread this for so many times that I actually want to forget everything all over again so I could read it once more without knowing what would happen.

Shen Miao is our female lead. She is given the chance to redo her life and to avenge herself and the people she cared the most in her previous life. She is a very... more>> vicious and complex character and I love her for this. She is a very determined person. She will fulfill her goals in any way possible, even death cannot stop her because she is not even afraid of it. Her previous life is the epitome of "loving too much can destroy you". All she did in her previous life was loving someone, but in return she was utterly destroyed. Now, she is out to destroy everything and she will do it.

Xie Jing Xing is our male lead. He is the most devious and scheming person of all. He does not hesitate in his actions. He is portrayed as this cold person who seems to not care about anything or anyone at all. But, no human is truly devoid of emotions. Xie Jing Xing is ruthless yet he cares. He cares about people even though he pretends not to be. He loves Shen Miao unconditionally. He trusts her fully. And he will do everything for her.

Our main leads are what you call the "perfect fit". And I love how the author seamlessly incorporated their romance. I love them both so much. I am glad that they have found each other.

The characters are all complex and there are lots of scheming going around. But, I really enjoyed the journey all through out. At first, I was even reluctant to finish it because I didn't want to let go of the characters. I have never been fond of long novels, but I didn't even notice that this was long because I was so hooked up with the story. This novel has been my standard for rebirths that I even found others of the same genre mediocre. I'm even reading this author's other rebirth novels as a result.

If you love rebirth stories, then this would be a good read for you too. <<less

Thankful that translator and editor would tsukkomi every time XJX's infinite beauty is brought up, else this one might have to throw up each time.

5 stars for the general story. Lots of intrigue, lots of revenge. But the XJX parts really gets on my nerves, especially after he really turned into a generic overbearing CEO character after the time skip.

Very good story and satisfying read. The shamelessness of the male lead is just nice. The MC's character is also consistent.

Thanks to the author, even if you made the last chapter long enough that it can be published as a whole book.

Thank you translator for picking this up even if you didn't have an editor for the last part of the story.
