His Mother was tormented to death from prolonged drugs poisoning , his father thought to send him away to a small village (Zhuangzi) in Jing Jiao so he could serve his filial duty to his mother (mourning), everyday he was bullied by servants. Bland, very "small shakes in the water" type of story.

The story feels like a very long run-on sentence. Time to time I would have to re-read a paragraph again, as they quickly pass details and information about what is going on.

(probably the translation, but they tried their best)

overall pretty ok, this is more of a one-time read type of novel in my opinion.

also the names my god I got confused so many times as their to similar to each other.

As dramatic the sypnosis is, the actual outcome is..... flat.

All the political entanglements and deep foreshadowing turned out to be...... simple.

The precieved complexities of the characters and relationships is...... more straightforward than initially implied

The MC is not as impressive as the title or summary suggests. This is more or less a story of how the MC deals with the consequences of being a Wangfei and the dramatic changes in his lifestyle. The ML here is more mild than the ML in The Wife is First despite his initial grudges, so... more>> the MC's life is rather comfortable. His more impressive moments in the story is how he asserts his authority as Wangfei in the face of those who look down on his humble origins while making sure to avoid overstepping his boundaries. Too many cannon fodders gets too full of themselves while the MC knows when to step on the breaks.

  • He has no sense of ambition since his marriage stripped him of his chance to take the imperial exams just like The Wife is First.
  • Just like The Wife is First, the MC has to deal with a lot of women, including the ML's harem. The MC's situation never gets too terrible because the imperial family treats him well. The MC's life in the harem gives us insight to how pitiful the life of concubines are and how much their livelihoods depends on favoritism
  • As Wangfei, he gets compromised by the schemes centering around the political tensions over the throne inheritance. He himself does not do anything really impressive in regards to politics. The emperor backs the MC, but he has his own political agenda. The emperor has a scheme behind the arrangement with the MC and ML's marriage.

The ending is too idealistic. It contradicts the dark undertones that's been heavily emphasized throughout the novel in regards to familial bonds, which is something that the MC spends the entire novel coming to terms with

There are some positives to this story, but I think my disappointment over the unfulfilled high expectations the synopsis imposed dampened the positives. Keep your expectations low and you may find this to be an enjoyable and slow pace read.

    • The ML's sister: She's probably the only likable female character in the novel and she's bad*ss too! She has a more impressive presence than the so called "rich and powerful" MC and she's really good with playing with politics and turning the situation around. Even the ML is surprised at how omniscient she is.
    • The slow relationship development between the MC and ML. The slow pace of their relationship is sensible considering the fact that their marriage was arranged against their will.
    • The bond between the MC and his personal servants. The servants are the MC's closest friends and they helped him through the hardest times of his life. The cruel irony that the MC deals with is that they care more about him than his own family. I love that the MC repaid them by ensuring that they had a good future and retirement

The translation was pretty hard to understand, almost like a google translate. But it was harder to understand when the story revolves with Chinese ancient honorifics and customs, and I wasn't good witb it and all the names included.

I didn't really understand it as much as I want to be, so I'll just give up for now. Thanks for the hard work of the translator, but it's just so hard to read ?

Simple, lovely plot. The personalities of the different characters balances each other. And the love development between the 2 main leads are worth the wait... Its a steady growth.

... more>> This novel is too tame, I'm telling you. If you're looking for a rollercoaster drama, this is not for you.

The plot is good, but this is REALLY a slow burn romance. It really tested my patience but the way ML and MC develops their feelings for each other is so natural it makes me feel so fluffy.

I also like ML and MC's characters. Not OP, not overbearing, and muddle headed idiots. It's just like, watching two regular people slowly and naturally fall in love.

Oh, but the translation and transition is really confusing, made me feel lost multiple times. <<less

This story truly test on my patience. I don't know if it's the translation or if the original text is problematic, reading it is just painful. I probably missed a lot of context as well. The translator however, does good job in explaining idioms and such. I guess I just dislike the text.

The MC is lovable but he made an err that could be blown up on his face spectacularly and I just despair on how things will go in the later chapters. Those who have completed reading said... more>> that it's a nice story so things probably goes better as the story goes on. I, however, don't feel much motivation to read more. So someday, maybe...

I do like the ML. He's understandably upset at the start having to marry a man, but as the story progress be shows a gentlemanly side to him so I'm glad. <<less

The idea is interesting, right?

MC is quick to plot and make the guillotine as soon as the chance is there. The only thing to do is wait and see. I love how MC is not weak with those that wronged him (the family), and his feeling not changing.

His feeling for ML will come slowly and it's good imo.

ML character is sooo confusing in the beginnning. Dunno if it's the translation, but I was super confused reading ML. ML is gay I think, but ofc they all wont address this so... more>> we wont XD

It's light tone down of the revenge theme in ancient chinese kingdom with the whole married and is hated by the husband then involve in his politic ambition story. But in BL flavor.

So, dont expect a lot of detail of the non-related situation, the lack of further explanation on several issues and personality of the characters.

Also....I hate to write this, but the translation was a bit.... confusing. Several times, I was 'wait.... how/what/why...?? where's the missing scene!? I dont understand this!'

However, it's done deal, just skip all the confusion, and anything and just move forward. Keep reading and enjoy what we can get. <<less

I wanna say this novel is a 3.5 at most but it was rather enjoyable so I rounded it up to 4. I'm not sure if the translations are mtl but some of the intended meaning was lost in translation. It's not a big issue though. MC in this story is a little different from others. Usually with palace stories, the MC is either very scheming or silly but lovable. MC is neither; he is kind, intelligent, innocent and tends to give the benefit of doubt to other characters.

There aren't any complicated plots in the story, but it's interesting enough to keep me reading till the end. Plus, the way it all unfolds feels very smooth. I didn't see the Mpreg tag so maybe that felt a little abrupt but it works for this story. Overall, I wouldn't say that this novel is very memorable, but it's a nice distraction and the interaction between MC and ML made me feel warm inside. It's the perfect story for a relaxing afternoon. <<less

That was a very, very enjoyable read. I took 1 star off because the story left some questions unanswered at the end, and the translation got rather confusing once in a while. But other than that, highly enjoyable and I really like how 'mature' the characters were - no pointless drama or temper tantrums. Recommended if you're after romance that build up slowly.

I really liked this story a lot. Although it's light, the plot is interesting and the ending is very satisfying. While reading it I was always remembering another novel that I thought it was quite similar (Forced to Marry the Enemy Prince) I really recommend it if you like this one

There's not a lot of action or drama in this story.

The main idea of the novel itself was pretty good actually, but it went slowly downhill. Lots of potential deep down dog blood plots actually, like why his brother from same mother and father wants to kill his blood brother despite their relationship is okay.

The romance is not bad, however, the MC actually doesn't do anything to get rich and honorable by himself. He's purely reliant on others to get anywhere and struggles to take any initiative by himself.

Recommend for a light reading.

It was pretty light and not complex. Translation at the start was really bad that I couldn't understand most of it but it became much better after ch. 20 or so on. I liked the general story but I wish we had better character development since they felt very one tone but still it was good. I liked that they just slowly fell in love and didn't fight much. This is a healthy relationship so no trigger warnings needed. If you need a light novel for passing time this one... more>> is pretty much perfect for it. <<less

I can totally understand what the people who gave 5* and 1* thinking.

Personally I liked this novel because its an easy read and despite being in ancient settings MC wasn't given any cheat except mpreg.

But I still like how realistic it was when he was scared of his bulging belly and thought of other things which are legit. I like how even when he was about to give birth MC and ML both didn't have much expectations of having a child and MC even thought of tumor lol.

I liked it... more>> how ML made MC drink abortion medicine when MC was suffering difficult childbirth (It was legit as they have many reasons to think whats inside is not really a child).

But

Despite having good stuff there are some major plotholes. I don't know if I didn't notice stuff or other people aren't just talking about it.

1. That Nanxi dragged for so many chapters but in the end it wasn't even made clear why Nanxi's master do it. As he didn't have any motive.

2. How Nanxi's master came to know enemy people and go as far as to make them spy as He was young and I don't think a prince has to scheme from 6-7 yr age. And again the qs why.

3. No backstory for some people. They appear just to make it easy for ML.

Overall not a great novel. MC and ML wasn't OP but there was a lot of plot armor.

Still I like it. It was an engaging read. <<less

ML gets 2 concubines at the beginning but no worries, nothing happens. I actually really enjoy the imperial harem plot with the scheming but with MC coming out on top. There's a bit of that here but nothing mind blowing. And while I don't like mpreg, that side plot actually wasn't too unrealistic (not like existence of ger or whatnot, but rather was a pill).

This novel is a sweet and warm one. Don't really have a big and twisted plot on it, but the story is enjoyable for me from the first chapter till the end.

I like how the author gave answers on every character's action, although at first I was confused as to why the MC was forced to marry the supposed to be a crown prince with no rhyme and reason. But then, it is good that in the latter part it was answered.

I also love the balance between the plot and... more>> the slow romance of the characters. It may have a tag of slow-burn romance but rest assure, you don't really have to wait that long. Also, I love that despite the slow romance, there is not much of misunderstanding. Cause I just hate it when the author put unnecessary misunderstandings just for the sake of it.

The only thing that I want answers from this novel is the part where the MC gave birth to their son. The author didn't give many in-depth details about it. But still, it didn't really bother me, It's more like I am curious than bothered.

Lastly, I love the CP of this novel. Super love them both. I love how the ML is not domineering unlike the other type of ML. In short, I just love their story and I love their type of happy ending.

P.S. The translation is not edited but it's not MTL. I mean, between the completely computer-generated translation and the translated one, you'll prefer the latter. Don't worry as the chapters go on, it's getting better so be patient. <<less

The beginning of this novel is a little depressing as it starts with our little MC being forced to marry to the star of the Empire without any rhyme or reason. However, MC doesn't seem to mind as he has been beaten by life and has few desires. This kills any aspirations ML has of becoming the emperor, and so he is understandably aloof and cold towards MC.

Over the course of the novel, the two find commonalities between them and come to love each other. There's an underlying air of... more>> mystery which is prevalent throughout the novel. Nonetheless, the actual delivery was lackluster.

There was tremendous build up surrounding the main antagonists but they were done away with in a matter of sentences.

Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the novel and their family was really cute.

They thought their kid was either cancer or a bunch of bugs, hahaha. Both of them were understandably terrified until a baby popped out.

Then their poor son got punished when he was older cause he kept falling asleep during his lessons because MC and ML kept rocking the bed at night so he couldn't sleep. （・□・；）

A very light hearted story! Even the drama isn’t that intense! I felt the story did drag at points but overall a good read!
