This is cute, but it's pretty clear that this is one of the author's earlier and less well developed works. Somehow, MC and ML are both strong, yet end up in some weird rushed and co-dependent relationship. About half of the novel is fluffy pet times and the other half is some strange business/family face slapping drama. If the latter half didn't pull sh*t out of nowhere, this would have been a better novel.

So good. Cried till my eyes are swollen.

This story is truly a heartwarming novel. This novel portraits so many this a normal person would not even think about which gives this story an extra meaning to it. After reading this story I truly gained a new level of awareness which not many books would deliver. I think every one should read this story not only for how well it is written but to learn more about humanity, love and the sufferings some humans go through. This story is a must... more>> read and of course it is a HE so dive right in and guaranteed you would love it as much as I do. <<less

Surprisingly dark.

The book was a lot more solemn than I thought it would be. It talks a lot about death even if not mentioned. Death and life, why do you live and well, truth.

Life is miserable to many, or that's just out perception of it. I couldn't stop feeling uneasy about this book. How insignificant a person is to your life unless you've entered theirs. How the end of one person's life simply doesn't concern you until you realize it always has. Isn't it so painful? Is that fair?

I personally... more>> found the story when Chengye was still a dog much more enjoyable despite Hanghang's life being miserable and helpless. Because he'd still never lost his hope.

Maybe if it weren't for that car, maybe if they hadn't met before, would it have been different? It would've. It's the price to pay for your ignorance despite it not being your fault. You were just unlucky. HangHang lost his life, while Chengye gained his. Was it a fair exchange? Rather, how much of their lives changed because of it?

The two of them are really weirdly perfect for each other, they're both weird in the head.

Anyway, if the book really was written as philosophicaly as I had written above I would've given it a 5. But it was rather rushed with all the ideas thrown over each other personally, Qing laoshi is one of my favorite authors, and it's a great start as one of her earlier books~

overall: 4/5 personal 2/5 <<less

The subject matter is a bit dark but every dark night is followed by the light filled day and this is how this book goes down. By necessity and nature, there is no wallowing in the pain but a constant moving forward and rebuilding of oneself.

My only gripe and reason for it not giving 5 stars is the MC’s doggy PDA as a human, it’s fine when it’s just them but licking faces etc in front of others falls into the realm of forcing others to participate in your kink... more>> without consent and didn’t need to be a thing. Plus MC was human for 20+ yrs, that’s not about to be trumped by x yrs as a dog and it makes you feel at moments that ML hasn’t reconciled with the fact that he’s a human. Which leads to the last extra, it kind of ties into some conflicting feelings and behaviour from ML which make it seem like he doesn’t love the man but only the dog.

Anyway, they do have a strong bond, there is a ton of love between them and yes romantic love as well. It just would have been good to see that human x human romantic love explored and visualised, versus the very doggy behaviour of one human, with both having an undercurrent of desperation to have that dog behaviour emulated to stay with each other. <<less

This made me cry. I liked the parts where one was a dog and the other, a naive young man much more than the later parts though. It felt more wholesome and touching. (Edit: some time has now passed and I can say with certainty that the early to late-middle parts of this novel have left a relatively deep impression on me.)

While the quality gets lower by the end, it's still relatively high in comparison to plenty of other novels in on this website.

It got a bit unbearable around... more>> the late 40th/early 50th chapters but then it got a bit better and while the ending was a bit rushed and abrupt, it was still much better than plenty of other novels. Still, the early chapters were better, more realistic and more grounded and original and it would have been nice if it didn't drop in quality by the end.

To be honest I didn't care for either character by then and I only completed it because I got invested during the early parts. It was moving in the beginning but then the characters and their relationship became so bitter and it was just missing something (the bar was set high because of the first half and the second half dissapoints).

Oh and just a warning, the extras are very cringy so read at your own discretion. <<less

I really cried so hard while reading this. And this is the first time I was genuinely expecting for a papapa scene to be detailed in a novel haha. Also, I really love both leads~ They're so perfect for each other. Didn't really expect that the gong was Lu Chingye~ Seriously, I'm so satisfied with the story.

I couldn't edit the rating, it should be 5 stars huhu

If you had enough of angst or some sort of ab*se story. This story kinda soften your heart to some degree. And yes this will be a lot of PDA.

If you can handle second hand embarrassement at least on the second part of the story. You can enjoy the story fully.

I kinda rate this 4.5 cause the pda I admit is pretty embarrassing. Not something a normal person would like to witness but well this is a fiction so you can't take it too seriously.

What a good read..

ML is really a good boy.. Weathered by his experiences and with MC by his side, he grew into a fine young man. Guess I have a soft spot for characters who suffer and grow from it.. He always looked forward instead of wallowing in despair, but I'm sure it was because they both had and gave each other courage to carry on.

Spoiler

MC's personality change and their PDA must be a huge shock to everyone around

Solid 5 star!

At first I was doubting how to imagine a love between a dog and human. I also afraid to read because I love animals so so much. And yet I brave myself to read this, and regret didn’t read it sooner.

Following our Gong who reborn (?) into a black labrador, we can’t help to feel him falling in love with our lovely shou. ZH is so smart, yet his life is miserable. Who didn’t love him when we saw him suffered so much but seek no revenge, yet... more>> he just try to live in happiness, be strong in his own way. Oh I looove our shou.

I cried, I laugh, I fall in love with both of them. And it was gold when our gong scold the s*um mother in the end. <<less

I cursed the author for almost every chapter when the downfall of ML happen lmao, he is the most pitiful ML in any novel I ever read, how can a person be that strong, I'm truly impressed

the MC is a dog?? Many times he's lustful for ML in dog form, well he did turn into human after that, but the MC sometimes still act like a dog to please the MC

many times the ML wish the MC to be a dog back, because he like the furry feeling

and in the extra, the ML approved MC request of getting intimate in a dog form

that's looks like a kink to me

[collapse]

I also want to know about ML step father family reaction when he's successful, they didn't get mention until the end after ML leave the house.

Though a bit uncomfortable, the plot still quite nice, haha <<less

This is a sweet but extremely dark story, so it's not my taste. It is a decent story, with my only major complaint is how dark it is, so if you're into that sort of thing you should give this a go.

This novel can get really dark at certain chapters. But the devotion of MC for ML is very heartwarming. I can understand why some people can't coup with the lost of their beloved pet companion. MC learns to love as he becomes the pet of the ML He learns to be devoted. He learns to be selfless for the ML's happiness. ML definitely deserves the best. He was so young when he had to face the harsh reality of life, yet he endured with the help of MC. If the... more>> ends wasn't at rush, I will definitely give this novel a 5 star. <<less

There's not much for me to say other then me loving the novel a lot. I have read this entire novel in two days. I had had laughed and crying while reading, the right amount of happiness and angst, and it gave me a whole lot of warmth. I am glad that I was able to come across this novel, and most likely would read it again and again.

I do have to say though, the ending does end up on a pretty fast note. However the ending can be say... more>> as expected so it wasn't that much of a disappointment for me. But again as a reader, I was hoping for more extras and be fed more dog food haha.

For readers who came across this novel just like me before, I can only tell you to give this novel a try. <<less

This is not bestiality. Sure, MC gets excited due to spring, but NOTHING HAPPENS.

I really like this novel because, although the series of events are totally lucky, the characters feel realistic. The way characters think isn't absolutely dumb. The MC and ML are both smart. The best thing about the novel is how the MC and the ML feel equal. The ML isn't an airheaded shou/bottom, and while the MC is a bit of a yandere, he knows the MC is reliable. In fact, sometimes I had difficulty knowing who... more>> was the gong or shou, which is great. Real people don't usually fit into neat stereotypical categories, and these fictional characters didn't either. Bless.

Good emotions! Gets sad sometimes, but quite heartwarming. ML is quite the saint, but he isn't a Gary Stu. Both MC and ML acknowledge their flaws. They're quite the power couple. The character development for ML is great.

The funny moments are cute too. <<less

I thought at first that this was full of fluff but I was wrong. There's so much angst in the first part of story because of the family of the ML. But I love how the MC was the one who accompanied the ML throughout the darkest days in his life.

I think I went into this book expecting a cute dog reborn sort of story. It ain't that. This is much more angsty and gut wrenching than I expected. There's a deep bond between dog MC and ML as they go through various trials and the horrible environment ML is in. It was like the only bright spot in that situation was each other and I was glad they had each other.

As for ML's parents: ... more>>
Spoiler

they were both horrible. ML's non-blood related father maybe just a notch lower. He gradually fades out into the background as he remarries and cares less about ML. His parents were just horrible though. I kind of wished to know his reaction to seeing ML being successful later on but it was probably good that his character faded out for good after ML became totally dependent. And I liked how cleanly ML cut him off as he knows it wasn't good to depend on that father. The ultimate s*um is the mother who comes back near the end of the book and luckily was easily dealt with. Good riddance.

[collapse]

ML's situation:
Spoiler

I found the whole going blind thing very frustrating. Like how at the beginning he had terrible night blindness, crashing while biking etc. MC was terribly concerned even before his family situation got worse but ML just didn't seem to notice. Like why didn't he notice all those signs sooner? Cos poor vision and not seeing at all at night are like big red flags. Like did he even go to the spectacle shop? I'm not sure. It was only later on that it seemed like he did and he was told that he had to go to the hospital and it seemed to be too late and by then his family situation was a whole circus mess already making everything worse.

[collapse]

Overall plot device:
Spoiler

I thought it was really unique, with the whole time travel thing. MC goes back to the past as a dog. He later goes back to present time. Turns out the car accident didn't kill him. This wraps up the plot pretty well in my opinion.

[collapse]

Overall this was a minor tear jerker and I liked the HE. They deserved it. <<less

For a fantasy 'transmigration into an animal' type story, this was quite realistic and common sense, with coherent cast of characters.

Hanghang's disability brought about angst and drama but it was narrated well with much insight and common sense, without excessive sentimentality and melodrama. The angst is never between the couple, misunderstandings never last long, as both protags are smart, mature and straightforward.
