The night he crossed over, he was told that his “wife” was having a baby.

Upon entering the delivery room, he discovered his “wife” is actually a man!!!

Was there anything more terrifying than this?!

Li Jin had just woken up when he saw a man run out from the room.

“Li Jin, your family’s husband is having difficulty giving birth. He can’t hold on anymore!”

In ancient times, dystocia was known as “one corpse, two lives”.

Without even thinking about it, Li Jin rushed into the delivery room. —He was an obstetrician.

After crossing over, Dr. Li, who was respected for his medical skills, became a “soft rice man” who relied on his “wife”.

It's a light read. I mtled this until the end. It talks more on the journey of the MC on taking the imperial examination to become a scholar and he top all those exams. The MC is a doctor but he's always saying that he is not proficient with chinese medicine. But since he knows arithmetic/mathematics, he introduced computations easier to common folks and officials for used in agriculture, shipbuilding, etc.
Some readers might find this a bit lacking or boring. There's no face-slapping, intrigue or drama. Just good natured story-telling about MC transmigrating (he seems to realize that he had soul swapping at age 8 due to falling into the well, then travels back from the car accident), adapting into his new life and having a family. Btw, don't expect the "car", since it all fades away.

If you prefer excitement, then better read "The Only Favourite Ugly Husband". Since the MC there founded his own country.

Good slice of life novel, I'm glad it was from gong (seme) perspective, otherwise I am not reading it, because it is hardly yaoi. MC wife is a 3-rd gender - ger - not strong as a man, not fertile as a woman (but still can have children). In this setting they are raised same as woman - be obedient good wife, and ML is a virtuous wife. And in this concept they are not gays, because they are different genders. (Definition of gay is attraction to the same sex)... more>> <<less

➺ 4/5 🌟

Another very slice of life read, slow and chill with low stakes and almost smooth sailing plot. It can easily fall into a boring category and can be picky with the kind of readers it can entertain, so don't pick this up if you want something big happening.

There's no drama and it's full of wife pampering kind of romance, very sweet and adorable. The plot is more about the MC, after transmigrating, just wanting to have a simple, stable life with the ML and their son to gradually... more>> achieving more merit. Basically the MC's road to being the top scholar while supporting his family.

I'm just in the mood for this kind of slow story. This is what entertains me lately so if you're not into this kind of slow plot, just don't pick it up. <<less

Everyone is so nice in this novel! I wish everyone just have the same energy, why be jealous just work together to have a better life why not?

There wasn't much farming, also there wasn't much medicine/doctor stuff. We focus mainly on the scholar path, he takes exams after exams to reach the Capital.

MC is responsible, smart person. He knows alot, and also takes care of of his family. Eventually falls in love with ML. ML is a good boy who keeps MC accompany and their kids are so cute.

Very... more>> straight forward story, almost daily life recounts, MC earning money with small tricks here and there, feeding his family while studying with small months of time skip.

Very sweet and fluff story of the family, no angst, no pain. Even villain turn nice real quick, everybody is just so understanding and so nice! Thought I do want to see him perform more advanced medical stuff. But with his former occupation it was understandable <<less

Spoiler

Wen Wen's old friends who empathize with his beaten-wife lifestyle still badmouths Li Jin after LJ had changed and given Wen Wen some expensive sweets.

Wen Wen gets angry that they're badmouthing his husband. But honestly, their reaction is legitimate.

It's mentioned they still remember Wen Wen arriving with bruises and never forgot this. The way Wen Wen was acting, it was like he'd forgotten how badly he was treated before this.

And while they've heard how LJ had "changed, " they don't trust him. I think the author really did good at this part.

Wives that have tasted a little kindness from abusive husbands try so hard to defend them, making excuses for them and just forgiving them because they're so insecure.

It's honestly better to keep friends who is still alert of the abusive husband so the wife can be reminded. Wives should not be beaten. They should not be feeling inferior to their abusive husband.

Divorce and form a group of women who can support each other. Don't allow ab*se to stain your eyes, especially if laws can help.

I love it. I MTL'ed halfway through cause I was rooting for him till the end. I just wish it were longer or covered the life story of the Little Bun and Leopard when they grew up. Little Bun would've been a great doctor.

It got a bit boring cause my brain was getting fried from the long explanations and wrong grammar but it's a nice feel good novel. There's absolutely no love triangle or any unnecessary drama. It's pure love and tenderness. And a lot of Math. So much calligraphy... more>> and math. <<less

DNF. Overall it was well written with likeable characters. I just got tired of the double standards. In what I read, all of the antagonists were women or gers. MC wanted to elevate his ger wife but only his wife, saying said wife was different from other gers. Despite often reflecting on modern morals, MC still had a physical relationship with his underage partner. Usually I could get past these, but the novel wasn't so good as to make me do so.

This novel is not bad if you’re looking for a chill casual read to waste a bit of free time on, but... it’s not exactly good either? The characters are a bit dry, so it appears mostly plot driven. Anyway, it’s not my kind of novel so I stopped while I was ahead. I won’t be giving it a rating, but if I were to, I think it would be somewhere between 2-3stars.

REALLY RECOMMENDED IT!!

This is my comfort story.

MC transmigrated into the body of a s*um man, changing 'himself' and slowly create a happy family.

... more>> It's done naturally and no one is unnecessarily suspicious of his change. MC doesn't feel gratified for being such a good person, and people around him also doesn't suddenly put him in pedestal. How good it is!

Although the MC is meek, and mostly like damsel in distress, it's fit with the setting. And seeing this pitiful teen being cared by ML is what make my heart warm the most!

Although slightly exagerating, reading this story, I feel like I've gained another home. <<less

This is my 1st seme farming novel. So I kind of like it

The story is basically about Li Jin, a doctor?? He transmigrated into the original owner. And he's trying to make things better.

ML is really cuteeee!!! Such a sweetheart..i felt really sad about him, but I'm pretty sure MC will cherish him :)

Overall, the novel is pretty good. If you like farming, poor to rich kinda novel this maybe gor you.

5 stars for the novel and the author and 4 stars for the translator :) i hope they would translate more chapters a week

Easy to MTL so I went ahead and just read it roughly, but I enjoyed it ! An easy- going novel that has a flow like you're on a scenic boatride, what's fascinating about it is it's take on transmigration - the focus is mostly on Li Jin who became a scholar, we go through the process of him studying, his friends, his self-discipline while providing for his family (work/life balance) -- there's? Uh honestly not a lot of farming or business, he dabbles here and there - but mostly... more>> he picks up different types of jobs and studies alot. It's a very peaceful novel, calm romance and I find the kid (xiao baozi) endearing! <<less

It's good for the part about how the MC got to raise afamily.', slice of life style. Contrary to other novel of the same kind, he didn't try to get all the s' wealth by using all the modern knowledge. But be warned, the most of the story is about the mechanism of climbing the erudite examinations in ancient China and many things about phylosophy and mathematics etc. 3 or 4 chapters are ok but I mostly skip them

I really love this novel.

No unnecessary drama. The MC is so considerate and gentle, fair as well. The ML sometimes hold inferiorty but at the end he can prove himself that he is equal with the MC, despite being a ger.

Stuck between giving this novel a 4* and 5*. I enjoyed this novel overall, though some parts of Li Jin moving up in the world was kinda boring since I was reading it for the MC and their babies. Overall, all the stuff involving the main cp is rlly good and I love their kids and generally their interactions because its really obvious that they love each other. Though, I don't know how I feel about how easily the ML forgave the older-ver of the MC who was kinda abusive... more>> but MC is not abusive, its complicated. Main CP r super kind too each other, and yeah they are generally rlly cute. I miss some of the older characters who we didn't see as Li Jin moves up in the world like his cousin Li [forgot his name] but he was generally rlly nice guy, and also Chen [also forgot his name], I MISS him, like we stopped getting interactions around the second baby, but I thought he would be the most excited about main CP's children. I read the rest of the chatpers on mtl novels, it kinda a struggle to read, maybe directly mtling or tling it would be better and more enjoyable. <<less

A transmigrating story of a scholar? Sign me up!

If you're especially interested in a scholar's daily life: studying, taking official exams, playing traditional games -- then this is for you.

I was amazed by how detailed the author explained how stuff works in traditional chinese, including a vivid depiction of the exams mechanism, the society, and culture during that time. Minus the m-preg theme going on, I would say this story is very realistic and I learnt so much about the culture. I'm not sure if the history is accurate, however,... more>> you could really feel the scholarly nuance in this novel.

There's little to no drama at all, only fluff and self-development. Perfect for a light, peaceful, and insightful read. There's also an interesting twist to the story. Li Jin's transmigration will be explained later on, and honestly? I'm satisfied with how the author actually has an explanation of how Li Jin transmigrated, not just randomly using the 'oh he got hit by a truck and died' excuse.

Sadly, the previous translator dropped this novel with only 3 chapters. And I was so looking forward to it! So I had to MTL my way through. Surprisingly, it's very MTL friendly that sometimes I even forgot that I'm reading it using MTL. <<less

A stand out from the genre and also a lot of other Chinese BLs that I have read. The story is told from multiple points of view but unlike other stories that are just descriptions of the events that are happening, this story has characterization and interiority. It led to distinct MC, ML, and side characters.

We understand the MC's fear, confusion, hope, and growth as he accepts his new life. He has the usual MC plot armor where everything goes his way, but it doesn't feel as dull, or repetitive.... more>> Warning, this is a slice of life so don't expect the plot to be thrilling it has a slower pace with not much going on.

Spoiler

As a new spin, the MC takes the imperial exam but ends up as a mathematician instead of the usual businessman, doctor, or minister. The romance was a nice touch with no insta-love or acceptance. MC gets to know the ML as they interact.

[collapse]

We can empathize with the MC who struggles with his place in life, what is expected of him, what he wants to do, and being married to someone he doesn't think he is suited for.

Spoiler

The ML went from being illiterate to writing stories about his experiences to inspire others. This is important because a lot of these stories have the ML being dependent on the MC and not healing from their previous trauma.

[collapse]

As a plus, the side characters have their own lives and aren't just waiting off-screen to appear when the plot needs it. On the other side, a lot of interesting characters disappear from the plot. It was framed as the MC and ML's lives changing and moving on, but I don't think it was handled well enough. <<less

Writing/Translation: 2/5

I read until chapter C28 the translations from Beauty Brute. Pretty readable. A bit awkward TL here and there which was a bit hard to get but still overall readable. The rest I MtLed using Google and Safari translations. It was okayish readable. You can get the gist. All the examination terminology is shot though haha. But they don't really go into detail so I just understood them as another exam.

... more>> Pacing: 3.3/5

Chill and slow.

Plot: 3/5

Pretty chill. Everything tr*sh_generalist reviewed, I agreed with. Not quite to my taste because at this point in the story, I feel that the main goal of the MC was long achieved so his trying to pass all the higher exams feels boring. And also, I don't get why he wants to. The motivation of the MC is a bit wavy. He was an obstetrician in his past life but he somehow has no drive to continue the doctor route even though he already has half a foot in there in this life but he wants to go the scholar route with economy, math, and calligraphy for some reason. The plotting wasn't really tight if you know what I mean. Also, these people are very mild lol. As in, all the would-be bad guys don't really do annoying stuff before they stop lol. So no face-slapping here.

Romance: 3.3/5

The romance is a typical BL one.

Setting/Worldbuilding: 3.2/5

I might have liked the world better if there were a proper TL. As it is, all the jargon was untranslatable lol

Characters: 3.3/5

Personal Enjoyment: 3.3/5

Interesting story! Slice of life with zero drama. There is no farming life, but focus more on li jin's journey in examinations. For me, it got a bit boring in the end, but I did read all of it.
