Lu Qi had a naturally soft temperament. He only lost his temper once in more than twenty years, and that was when he sent his ex-boyfriend to the hospital.

Because his ex-boyfriend had a white moonlight, and when he couldn’t get what he wanted, he used him as a substitute.

It was said that the white moonlight was gentle and kind, and even his name was as soft as a little white flower, a Mary Sue. Lu Qi was 80% similar to him. 30% similar in looks, and 50% similar in temperament.

Then, Lu Qi really saw the legendary white moonlight.

The man was sitting at the intersection of light and shadow. He had a handsome profile and a tall, straight figure. His long legs were crossed, his black shirt had two buttons open at the collar, and the hair falling over his forehead covered his eyebrows. When he looked up, his eyes were narrow like those of a fox, with the dazzling lights and shadows of the bar gleaming in them.

Lu Qi hesitated for a long time, and while the s*umbag was going to the bathroom, he cautiously walked over and warned him that there might be something wrong with the drink he just drank.

The white moonlight held his chin and chuckled, looking Lu Qi up and down with his charming eyes. “Is that so? He did something to the wine?”

Lu Qi blinked, feeling that they looked nothing alike. The s*umbag might have a problem with his eyes.

The white moonlight walked straight toward the s*umbag, and Lu Qi found that the white moonlight was even half a head taller than him. Then the white moonlight, who was said to be weak and defenseless, raised his long leg and kicked the s*umbag in the waist and sent him flying.

Well, Lu Qi thought, they still had some similarities. For example, they both kicked the s*umbag in the same spot.

When he was a boy, Mu Nanqiao disguised himself as a little white rabbit in order to protect himself.

He pretended to be gentle, kind, and soft.

He watched with cold eyes as some idiot used despicable means to approach him in disguise. That idiot still thought he had deep feelings for him.

How could there be a pure soul in this world?

In the end, the idiot actually found one.

And he sent that person to Mu Nanqiao.

He was not a rabbit, but a deer. His eyes were crystal clear, and when he lost his temper, he would use his antlers to hit people.

So cute. Mu Nanqiao ran his tongue across his canine teeth and wanted to take the deer back to the fox’s den.

Probably one of the funniest story beginnings I've read, with MC crashing his boyfriend's "concubine selection" where said boyfriend is trying to find another boy who looks like his white moonlight (because MC won't let his boyfriend sleep with him and boyfriend is suffering apparently). Had to read the scene twice to understand what was going on because the concept was just so ridiculous (and hilarious).

In this moment though, MC solidified himself as the love of my life as he proceeded to break up with his boyfriend without a second... more>> thought and beat his now ex-boyfriend up as the as*hole would not leave him be. We love a MC who will stand up for himself and decisively cut out toxicity from his life!

I love both MC and ML so much in this novel. It's probably one of the few times I can say that I'm equally obsessed with both of them. MC is the cutest, most sincere and kindhearted person, but also works as an erot*c artist live-streamer who rides motorcycles and does not take people's shit. The duality is what really gets me, he's just so likeable as a character. Despite the contrast, he remains a very consistent character, and though there's no major character growth individually, his interactions with ML develop quite a bit through the course of this short novel.

ML is a personal favorite of mine as a subtle green tea top, slyly seeking out MC's affection and care by making himself out to be a damsel in distress. He's very sweet and doting to MC while also being just the right level of flirtatious and teasing to keep things interesting. This man is constantly chugging respect my boyfriend juice with the way he supports MC's hobbies, listens to his opinion, reassures him, and always asks for consent. It's like the author looked in my brain and asked what a perfect ML was like and this man was created.

The two leads have great chemistry and they are both quite straightforward, pushing the relationship development along relatively quickly. They communicate well and they don't really argue, as they're both always open to hearing the other out before jumping to conclusions, and they respect each others feelings more than forcing their own feelings onto the other. It's a very idealized relationship in a way, but definitely something to strive for. I also loved the reveal of their shared backstory:

The length of the novel is perfect for a touching but short read! A scene I found particularly touching with ML's dad and MC:

"Does it feel difficult to be with Nanqiao?" Mu Chuanbai asked gently: "He has a past that he can't escape. Will you feel tired pulling him along all the time?"

Lu Qi shook his head, holding his chin as he asked: "Why do you think so? I'll just pull him gently, and he will try to walk forward on his own. When he's tired of walking, I will pull him again...."

This is just the absolute cutest thing you'll ever read. MC is a soft-hearted painter with a spine of steel, and ML is a traumatized, rough-around-the-edges heir to his family's company who only softens for MC. Their romance is sweet and believable. All of the characters (except for the original s*um gong) are multi-faceted, including the parents who are introduced later on. It feels like everyone in the story grows as a person in these short 57 chapters.

It is cute, and I do love the healthy relationship dynamic between the ML and MC. The novel has quite a few touching moments—along with character growth, references to h*mophobia, and added dimension into the characters (MC isn't just a soft, pure figure and ML isn't just cold and sarcastic, they are multifaceted). My problem is that the storyline, to be honest, felt stale. As if the author had the right ingredients but couldn't put them together to make a great dish, just a good dish that could've been better.... more>> The story drags longer than it should—a lot of things are repeated for it to be that slow-paced. Slice-of-life it becomes after 20ish chapters, but even that genre requires momentum. It feels as if this novel lacks that. For example, the characters have this dimension to them but key moments in the novel more of often than not have them repeating their character type rather than adding something new to it. It's predictable. Also the ML also has this interesting (weird, sorry) habit of equating the MC to a kitten. So there's that. tldr: cute premise, cute characters that have a little dimension to them, but not enough of a compelling storyline to keep one engaged. &Lt;also, if you're the type to love the flirting stage and lose interest once they get together, then that problem is going to be exacerbated here because you have a very very slow plot> <<less

GREEN FLAG ML! GREEN FLAG ML! GREEN FLAG ML! It's so very refreshing to finally see such a good ML after a string on toxic ones in the Chinese novels I've read so far! It's a really sweet story with a mix of fluff, humour, and some angst.

I also love the fact that they treat the ML's mental health in a proper way! Rather than the stereotypical LOVE HEALS EVERYTHING mentality, they show us the importance of the getting the right help. The acceptance from the MC's parents was a beautiful story

Summary: Lu Qi was getting his boyfriend a birthday gift when he's suddenly scouted to be his boyfriend's mistress. Lu Qi finds out that not only is his boyfriend a cheating s*umbag, but also obsessed with his first love, his white moonlight, who Lu Qi resembles somewhat. S*umbag expresses: "You didn't sleep with me so obviously I had to get it elsewhere" Enraged, Lu Qi breaks up with his s*umbag ex and moves out. Soon after, he runs into the white moonlight and warns him about the s*umbag's obsession.... more>> White moonlight, who is actually more like a black-bellied wolf in sheep's clothing, finds Lu Qi very very cute. Romance and hilarity ensue as the white moonlight, Mu Nanqiao, punishes the s*umbag and pursues Lu Qi.

Warning: Attempted Drugging

Translation Quality: Pretty good. It's readable without noticeable awkwardness and the translator does translate/explain the bits of Russian in the text. I would appreciate maybe a bit more explanation about some of the slang terminology, but it's not really that prevalent in the novel so it doesn't matter.

MC:

Described as deer-like, he is a sweetheart. He's a genuinely nice and kind person, but not a pushover. He's also a rational adult and not like one of those people that get involved in dogblood misunderstandings.

ML:

One of the more "real" MLs I've read in a while. ML is someone who is naturally fairly aggressive, capable, and scheming but was forced to pretend to be soft and rabbit-like in order to fool his enemies. ML's trauma and his feelings towards MC are explored but do not dominate the story. He definitely feels like a character you'd see in a show.

Plot:

I'm only on chapter 25, but so far the plot mainly concerns the romance between the two main characters. At the same time, it's not like the characters are devoting themselves to romance 24/7 but more like we're seeing the snippets of their everyday lives that have romance in them.

There's not much drama. ML has already dealt with his major villains and the s*umbag ex is no challenge for ML. There are a few hilarious moments where ML or ML's family just casually snipe the s*umbag ex. There's no parental challenge as ML's parents like MC from the start. The ML does keep some secrets from MC but they're not big secrets and are spilled by chapter 25.

Overall, it's just a cute and sweet story with cute and adorable characters. It gets 3 stars because of no drama or major plot holes (thus far), one star because of how "real" ML is, and another half a star due to my personal enjoyment of the pacing and characters. <<less

MC finds out that his boyfriend is actually using him as a substitute for the boyfriend's white moonlight, and promptly and decisively dumps the s*umbag and moves out. His new neighbour turns out to be a guy he met by accident in a bar and mistook for a s*x worker, and the two soon become friends. Then it turns out said neighbour is the MC's s*umbag ex's white moonlight. Who is nothing like what the MC expected, and is, in face, exactly the MC's type. And it turns out that... more>> the MC is also the white moonlight's type. Fun read, with a shou MC who actually has a very firm spine and is not at all afraid of standing up for himself both verbally and physically. I'm not sure if this is the author's first work or not, because I personally found the pacing a little off, but I enjoyed it overall. I particularly enjoyed the MC's cat (whatever it is with danmei and cats, I approve). <<less

Well, it's kind of cute. Somewhat around 4 stars. The writing and translation are good. While there were moments when I felt it dragged on, the overall passing was good.

There are some dramatic blips on the radar but solved rather fast and tidy.

I agree with another review about MC, he is a cinnamon bun. But also no doormat. I kind of like how he sometimes picks the most unrelated point from a sentence and makes it the most important one. Don't know how to explain... like once he was... more>> in a kind of dangerous situation and did try to shatter a bottle of wine on a couch table... but instead of the bottle the table broke. He didnt fret but complained about that sturdy bottle and that his hubby had the same one and he really has to get rid of it!

I like his sometimes skewed views.

ML isn't bad either. While he is a rich second generation, he is also somewhat down to earth. The two feel homey together.

I would recommend reading this novel if you are looking for romance and cuteness. There is a story but it's still centered around their love story. <<less

Hm.... I've tried reading around one to two danmei that has the concept of "white moonlight stealing/falling for the stand-in", but this is the first book with similar concept that I managed to finish. And to begin with, the first chapter already gave me the tiniest sliver of hope I'd overcome my reading slump through this book due to how likeable, cute and badass the main character is. Also, these years, I usually judge my impression on danmei books these days through the author's writing style... more>> such as how they write the dialogue and monologue right from the first chapter, and as a result, I drop a lot of books I thought were intriguing at first. But this book was one of the rare ones that I did not drop.

First off, the scenes going on in the first chapter was already intriguing. The narrations were casual and didn't exaggerate the main character nor the plot. I thought my interest would already die down there, but before I knew it, almost within an hour, I read 10 chapters. The plot was still "cooking" that time, but it wasn't also so slow and didn't made me feel impatient.

Idk if my ADHD wasn't only acting up these days, but I think the reason why the plot felt like it's still "cooking" yet it didn't feel slow, there were other things going on amidst the actual plot. And there were also no exaggeration going on even at that point. MC was described as someone kind, quiet, and it made him look timid and kind of dense in the eyes of those close to him. (i.e his kind acquaintance and cousin?) So I'm not even surprise if he's also nonchalant and if the author made him that, but he wasn't.

He was a dynamic character, in fact. He appeared calm and quiet on the surface, but he can also feel panic to the point he had to take a short break from dealing with the negativities going around him. He can also feel rage and will do everything to express it. I really liked him this way.

About the love interest. He kind of... pales, in comparison to MC? He's often predictable, because his character is already uncommon to begin with, but he's a green flag to MC, he's also a badass to all his adversaries so I like him too. I kind of also pities his past.

About the big-shot Lin Yuan who dated MC because he resembled ML....

it's kind of.... disappointing he was defeated that easily. Although he did have a pitiful end, I was expecting him to "attack" like.... violently ever since he learned the ML he fell for only copied MC's character to manipulate him, and he realized it was MC he fell for not ML. I thought that part should be his breaking point BAHAHAHA. The thing is, MC pitied ML so much (before they dated at this timeline) and he already favored this "white moonlight" — he's supposed love-rival — a lot, while his hate towards Lin Yuan, his ex-boyfriend, was too strong his "attacks" were futile lol.

Overall, 4.4 over 5 star? I deducted it with 0.6 points because the enemies were defeated so easily lol. But that doesn't mean it's too hateful. (On the other hand, the author only meant for this to be written in "few" chapters so...) That just shows how strong and devoted MC is to ML. <<less

5 stars are not enough!! Need to give this super cute and lovely novel 10 stars!!!

Can I just say this novel is seriously filled with fluff. Other than the s*um man ex boyfriend causing some troubles to our MC and past traumas to our ML, the rest of it is pretty cute. The relationship of the MC and ML started with a cute misunderstanding, then they became neighbours, friends, then ultimately lovers. Damn cute I swear!!

Also, I might have a thing for it but I really love how the ML... more>> is the one with past traumas. Like so pitiful yet soooo nice to read. (Usually its the MC) but anyways, I love love it!

Will definitely reread again when I need some sugar and fluff. Highly recommended!!! <<less

Yay! I've been looking for a good sweetness filled story for quite a while! All the ones I've tried recently have flopped on important points but this one was just bellisima! Trés magnifique! Awesome dude!

The story isn't very long so the author wisely kept the cast small, but worked to flesh out the main characters and important side characters. It's very sweet because even though the characters (especially the ML) have issues, they communicate and support each other through tough times.

Also, the MC is not a pushover at all and... more>> the ML teaches him to be tougher. He remains at heart a sweet little deer, but one who isn't afraid to hit a bad guy in the head with a heavy bottle if necessary.

The ML knows how lucky he is to have someone so pure hearted and works to protect without limiting the MC.

There is also quite a bit of face slapping handed out, although when the ML and his dad get involved it's more like face hammering.

The way the author shows the parents of both MC and ML is wonderful. Their struggles, anxieties and more than anything, their love for their children is really wonderful.

A perfect afternoon read! <<less

This is a wonderfully funny and lighthearted short story with a small amount of angst (ML's back story).

There are some parts I'm curious about in terms of symbolism. The author frequently uses sunflowers, which makes me wonder if they are a quiet supporter of Taiwanese independence? The ML made some sunflower shaped origami (I think it was origami) and later the MC bought his in-laws some blooming sunflowers. I feel like there was another sunflower that appeared in the plot but I can't remember where. This is just my own... more>> strange guess, don't mind me!

Probably my favorite part of this story is how the MC, Lu Qi, is unapologetic in his treatment of the s*umbag ex who used him as a substitute. The quote from chapter 10 is so funny:

"Get out of here!" He pointed at the stairs with the crowbar. "We should meet in court, or if the police ask me to identify the crime scene! Do you want to turn into a white human figure line drawing, ah!"

I wonder if the translator can understand if the Lu in the MC's name is a homonym for the Chinese word for deer, or is it actually the same word for deer? The dictionary I looked at said that deer in Chinese is 鹿 (lù) and when I looked at the raws, the Lu in his name was the same word (scratches head in confusion). It wasn't mentioned in the dictionary that there was a surname Lu that had another meaning as the word for deer... I only checked his name because the ML will often compare him to a deer in terms of his appearance, but I thought it might also have to do with a name homonym. Now I got myself confused! I was assuming that he had a surname with the same sound as lù because the dictionary lists quite a few of those, but none that actually also mean deer...

Thanks to the translator for your work up to ch 33, after that I used MTL because I'm impatient. I'll come back to finish this review after I read the last chapter~

Edit after finished reading ch 57/extra 1...

I quite liked the rest of it, probably the only part I thought was s*upid was the cannon fodder villain friend of Lin Yuan

Such a well written story.

Both the MC and ML were endearing. I can tell that the author really put a lot of thought into this story. Their loving family as well as the intricate details made this novel a wonderful read.

The superb translation also added to the delight of my reading experience.

This is cute, and it's a nice change to see an overpowered ML actually having to deal with the trauma they had to experience in order to become overpowered. That said, the process of him overcoming the trauma was boring and unrealistically optimistic. Perhaps there's people who use love to overcome mental issues, but I'm skeptical.

My favorite was the beginning, which closely follows the description. Then there's too much lovey dovey and needless flailing around by the 2d villains. Perhaps it's the lack of depth that puts me off the... more>> rest of the story. If the story stopped earlier, I'd give it a 5. As it is, I give it a 4, and I think if I kept reading, the rating would keep declining. How did the author manage to write a short story that was still not short enough and even shallower than the length would suggest...

I found the drama with the mc's parents, the ml's apathy towards his perfectly loving parents, the ml's revenge, and the official confirmation of the main couple's relationship to be bland. Somehow, it felt like a list of things that should happen, so it was happening. Like another reviewer noted - it felt like him the right ingredients were combined into a lackluster dish. It's a shame because the main couple was quite cute, but they all felt a bit caricaturized and flat. For the lack of depth in this story, it really should have been shorter. <<less

Such a Delightful Pleasure Story. This novel is much more than the summary could ever explain.

Truly Love how our MC while still portrayed as Cute Lovable person (mostly on ML's and family's view), he's also ready to protect ML and attack his scummy ex everytime he made appearance.

Our MC is not a badass fighter whatsoever, but he definitely never holdback from attacking Scummy people who either being as*hole or when he did get attacked by bad people. He's not Martial art master whatsoever, nor he's a Genius, but his mental... more>> strength is Strong and he's not easily swayed or scared.

Of course he's not OP in his mental strength either, he was just stronger than most average people after he get through all those emotional events.

ML himself while strong physically, he was still has fragile side. He want to look and act better in front of and beside MC. He may also black belly, but there's barely miscommunication between MC and ML. ML only hide his secret for short time. And MC of course ready to hear his explanation rather than trust other who especially had wronged them.

Almost 80% of this novel is Fluff. Heartwarming and Sweet. But the rest of the percentage does have Drama and Emotional moments. And those definitely touch you in the heart.

The author did AMAZING JOB at writing both Protagonists and their Family.

Seriously this Novel was such a Chef Kiss. It was Absolutely WONDERFUL and I'M LOVING IT SOOOOOO MUCH!!! <<less

Super cute light-hearted novel to read with some angst that isn't too much. It focuses on the romance between a very cute cinnamon roll shou x doting slightly black bellied gong.

The shou, our MC is not naive nor innocent. He draws R18 art lmao to get money. He's just very good tempered and likes to see the world in a good light. He's the kind of person you'll say, "aww he's a good guy" kinda vibe.

Our gong had something tragic happen to him and he has some mental instability, depression.... more>> Despite that, he's so respectful towards MC and slowly builds the trust between them, letting the MC fall for him. We also get to see him getting better as he gradually lets go of the past.

Really sweet story. The comedic moments is when people find out that MC is supposed to be the substitute for ML and they're like, "HOW ARE THEY ALIKE???"

Drama does happen but it is over very quickly. Mostly to progress the plot.

Translation is SO GOOD. Kudos! <<less

Thank you for the good translation of this cute novel. The characters are really well developed, with a soft but strong MC and a strong but fragile ML. The relationships between them and also with their family are amazing.

This one is sweet and fluffy. There might be the issue of childhood trauma and ab*se from the past, but it's more of ML's characterization and not really the most dominant part of the plot. The overall story is more lighthearted and wholesome.

I loved that the MC is kind, innocent, gentle and has a good temper, but never a pushover. He can bite back in the most unexpected way once you wronged him or provoked the person he cares about. He can be... more>> the cutest cinnamon bun who rides a motorcycle, the purest and most wholesome who do erot*c painting for a living and the kindest, most well tempered person who never swears but can still hit you with his fist. It's very contrasting but not exactly clashing.

The ML, on the other hand, was always referred to as a fox/vixen. I think it fits him very well. He has a deep mind and full of schemes, but in the face of the MC's pure eyes, he can only treat him genuinely and sincerely. The thing I admire about him, aside from his deep love and devotion towards the MC, is that he never tries to control the MC. He said once that he would never hinder the MC's decisions and hobbies, but he will always stand by his side in case something goes wrong to protect him. He's very supportive.

The plot is not shallow but it's also not very deep and intricate. It's a cute and quick read and perfect if you just want a sweet and light romance. <<less

It was actually a good novel. I love the premise where the white moonlight and his substitute end up together. It's just that their relationship may be too fast for me?

I love how it starts tho, it's just that, I am more into slow romance.

So, I won't rate it for now, leaving this comment to remind myself which chapter I temporarily dropped it.
