After being reborn, Jing Shao decided to repent and turn over a new leaf…

I really love this novel!! It's such an enjoyable read!

The plot is pretty well-made. Even though it's pretty messy at first, after a few chapters it'll improve. The court affairs (i think that's the word? Idk) is pretty well made. The schemes.. wow..

The characters are pretty well made ^^ I really love Mu Hanzhang and Jing Shao.. their interactions are so uwu. I like how the author made Mu Hanzhan show his true talent after the reincarnation <3 and as for Jing Shao, he's not the best but he's so... more>> loyal and lovable. And it's.. quite unbelievable how fast he can repent on his past.. but well... <<less

The start is very promising and you get disappointed in the middle. I waited so long for the story to become more interesting but finally I realized this won't get any better and after I looked at the reviews at this site, I finally dropped the novel. It was a complete waste of my time.

ML is smart he knows a lot of things and is good at political scheming but he isn't that smart in other fields and he is quite weak, MC is a prince and he is powerful... more>> but he isn't smart.

MC only thinks about pampering ML, and nothing else which makes the plot quite boring.

MC has some enemies and uses ML's intelligence to revenge his enemies, but the problem is the plot is not that good. The things his enemies do or MC's counterattacks are not very well written.

and also I didn't liked the part when ML goes to some meetings with male wives, it was one of the reasons I dropped the novel, I wanted the see a cooler and stronger ML not someone who mingles with gossipy people. I guess I like more manly characters. But the way MC and ML behave is not my cup of tea. <<less

The start of the novel is deceptive.

Readers are introduced to a man betrayed and hunted, who miraculously travels backwards in time. But if readers are expecting a right-all-wrongs revenge story, or even a passing "gosh, I wonder how I traveled back in time?", they will be left wanting. This protagonist is completely disinterested in anything but pampering his husband.

The plot and setting are window-dressing. The story is hyper-focused on the day-to-day interactions of the romantic pairing. The conversations are largely ban*l and rarely lead anywhere interesting, plot-wise.

Does it get better... more>> later? I don't know. I got off after chapter 15. <<less

It's pretty good so far! Whether the plot or the romance between MC and ML are developing nicely. Being the reborn or reincarnation troupe, the story slowly uncovering the key events in MC (gong) past life, and how now in his new life he face with those matter more calmly, and with the help of his wangfei (ML) he can see all the problems more clearly, and finally solving them skillfully. The gong here is good at war, but not good at handling politic and all of the tricks... more>> and scheming behind. And that's why at the past life he was easily framed and getting schemed on. So now with him realizing the worth of his wangfei he relies on his smart shou for that matter, while protecting his wangfei's grace and honour, not letting other people disgrace him.

I like that kind of relationship, because it shows how their strength and weakness complemented each other.

Definitely worthy for being in my reading list! <<less

This novel started off great and had a lot of potential, but sadly I can only give it 3 stars. I read some critical reviews on here before reading, and thought “no way i’m sure it’s great”. Well. I was wrong lol.

The whole point of the story is that the MC did not treat his wife, the ml, fairly in his first life and vows to become better for him in his next life. Miraculously, he’s given a second chance after he and the ML are killed in the beginning... more>> of the book. He immediately begins trying to atone for his past life’s failures, which was great to see.

However, once the ML falls in love with him, the MC pretty much stops putting his wife first and just does things selfishly.
Spoiler

He literally omits information from the ML so he can get more s*x... Which was disappointing.

[collapse]
I found myself constantly annoyed with the MC by the way he treated the ml. And the ML was constantly having to forgive him for his selfish behaviour. Also, MC says a lot of misogynistic things throughout the book and most of the women are treated quite badly and written to be shallow and evil. Ok...

The actual storyline was pretty good and well-thought out, although it felt rushed towards the end and the ML gets sidelined completely.

Some Pros are that there is a lot of good dog food and smutty moments in the novel which were written and translated wonderfully. The MC and ML do love each other greatly so of course they were enjoyable to read about despite the flaws in their relationship. There are also 2-3 side couples that are Extremely adorable. The side couples really made the novel worth it for me lol.

In the end, I personally just found the MC to be greedy and unlikeable, especially after he pretty much

towards the very end of the novel. It seems he didn’t learn anything about putting the one you love first at all :/ <<less

I have to say, I'm tortured for camping so hard. This novel is very good. For all of you out there that are once like me- searching for something to fill their boring days, but is very concern to find a good read. This one is perfect! I know chapter 79 has been posted but I need to delay my read or else I'll suffer again. I miss Wang Ye and Wang Fei so much. I tried to MTL this but I can't bear to misunderstand the supposed to be... more>> perfect scenes. I'll be waiting till this will be fully translated. (づ ̄ ³ ̄) づ

All in all, I can immediately put this to my top lists. Very fluffy, heartwarming, wholesome, and devoted characters. Sending all my love to the story, the characters, the author and the translator.......... ♡ ´・ᴗ・ `♡ ➳♥ ➳♥ ➳♥ <<less

This novel is fluff incarnate and doesn't go very deep.

The novel is missing something no matter what genre one looks at it from. If it's a drama, then it lacks any sort of suspense due to the timey-wimey stuff, and all curveballs are very quickly solved. If it's a comedy, it has too many non-comedic moments. If it's a romance, which would probably be the most fitting, then it skipped the romance to dive into the smut because of the whole arranged marriage deal. It's a wish-fulfillment story that's purely... more>> feel-good and involves a practically Mary Sue-power couple that can't lose - which isn't bad, it just has no draw aside from reading fluff. (I guess I should be grateful for the lack of dumb dogblood drama?) Star docked for 'lack of suspense about anything'.

In terms of writing quality, it's mediocre. Not bad, but not ~masterfully crafted~ or any such thing. It's not very descriptive, and the occasional smut is unrealistic at best and a joke at worst, Chinese censorship meddling aside. The plot is quick-paced, but skimps on details it probably shouldn't, making important things seem small and played down. Another star docked for not being amazingly written.

Despite complaints, I'm not going to stop reading it until it's done. It's engaging and cute enough to keep doing so, as well as easily digestible for when one's coming off a more emotionally draining book like 2ha. I do hope that subsequent plot threads in this novel and/or the ending help bump this novel up to a 4... but I'm not holding my breath. <<less

Trigger Warning: The shou is implied to have been r*ped by the gong on their wedding night before the gong's regression, and again twice after the regression (chapters 94 and 100).

TL;DR: The plot is average but serviceable, and the non-romantic elements (such as palace intrigue, politics, and the second-chance narrative) are genuinely entertaining. However, the novel is severely weighed down by an overwhelming number of unnecessary s*x scenes, many of which involve dubcon, and even non-con. The shou is constantly injured and weak, while the gong repeatedly hurts him, always... more>> claiming to be sorry, but continuing the behavior regardless.

I picked this up expecting a light-hearted historical danmei, and in some ways, it delivered. There were cute, heartwarming scenes (often involving their pets), and the story was easy to follow, sticking mostly to familiar tropes of the genre. Even the military and battle scenes were surprisingly enjoyable.

However, what ruined this novel for me is the non-con, which is apparently where the title is taken from. It's not that the gong pampers the shou a lot; it's that he tells the shou he is his wife first and foremost, and therefore must prioritize serving him in bed. That statement, made late in the novel, completely changed how I viewed everything that came before. The gong doesn't see the shou as an equal partner, but as property. His "pampering" is conditional and ultimately hollow, because it's never about what the shou wants, just what the gong is willing to permit.

And I can't believe I'm saying this about a danmei novel, but the sheer amount of s*x was exhausting. It constantly disrupted the pacing. Nearly every scene where the main couple is together devolves into s*x, often immediately after the shou has been injured or weakened. The s*x frequently causes further harm, to the point where the shou either passes out or aggravates his injuries. The gong also uses s*x as an outlet for his anger or frustration, hurting the shou in the process, only to express remorse and repeat the cycle. The shou ends up feeling more like a cherished courtesan than a respected partner. An object of affection, not a person.

What made it worse is that consent is regularly ignored. There are moments when the shou explicitly says no, but the gong proceeds anyway, with no consequences. From what I've seen, this seems to be a recurring theme in the author's other works as well. I gave this one a chance because in the beginning, the gong didn't want to force the shou into having s*x without his consent or genuine feelings for him. But once that barrier was crossed, everything steadily spiraled downward.

I can usually tolerate questionable dynamics if they're written with at least a degree of self-awareness or restraint. But here, these themes were so pervasive (making up what felt like a third of the novel) that it became impossible to ignore.

If dubcon/non-con, r*pe, and an extremely fragile shou are your thing, this might be the novel for you. But for me, it was a deeply uncomfortable read. <<less

This novel is kinda special for me because it's only one of the few novels i've read that doesn't have a super OP MC and ML but just compliments each other so much..

I like how the MC was aware that he was more of a brute and doesn't think so much.
Spoiler

there wasone scene where MC did some terrible things (noncon / being too harsh on the ML during sex) but he was quick to realize his mistakes. That's a big yes for me. There are also some views on wives' that might trigger other people due to the cultural setting but for me, that's understandable. It's a cultural setting, all settings have their own rainbows and shits so for me that's just how life is in that kind of setting.

[collapse]

All in all, I really enjoyed this translation and thank you for Dandanmei and Chrysanthemum garden for translating this gem. Thank you so much. 💕

Though I'm still shy 10 chapters at the moment, I want to review it beforehand.

I just love it.

It is one of those novels where you feel the deep love and trust of MC and ML. Where you know that no dog blood drama is possible cause they just know each other so deep or will communicate. Wholesome and fleshed out characters.

Highly recommend.

By far, this has been the best novel I've ever read. It's still in the top of my list.

They're so cuteeee togetherrrrr, they trust and actually talk things out. Jing Shao waits till his wife is ready to have s*x and is just so caring. He never hurts or is rude to him as well.

Chapter 81 is cute 🤭

I love the MC and MLs relationship; the MC is very respectful of the MLs boundaries (especially after that disastrous first night) and tries to make the relationship as equal as possible (considering MC is royalty).

I am enjoying this novel immensely! The start off with how the event of rebirth happened was interesting in itself.

I wasn't sure if I had the patience for the palace intrigues and conspiracies, but surprisingly, I found myself interested in what was happening around or to the MC and ML. Plus the events do help in the progression of the two's relationship, which is lovely and sweet.

I also love that the MC and ML complements one another, creating a balance in their relationship --like two halves of a whole.

I'm really... more>> glad to have come across such a gem! <<less

An enjoyable read that is both interesting but still comfortable. This has a pretty progressive take on male wives in Ancient Chinese society in comparison to other BL novels. The gong is equal parts childlike, driven and sweet and the shou is reliable, determined and kind-hearted. The story is told from the gong’s point-of-view which is a rare find in this genre but I hope to see more of it. There are a couple of side characters but they don’t take away the focus from the main couple at all.... more>> The translation from CG is well done and for I can still follow along. Looking forward to finishing this novel and I highly recommend giving it a chance. <<less

This was a great read! It was a lovely combination of comedy and romance, and I especially loved that both the MC and the ML are equally capable in their own right, but it is only when they're together that they become the definition of unbeatable.

Those that love dragged out melodramas probably wouldn't like this. The focus is on how the relationship between the two develops and how they deal with the situations that life throws their way. So it starts off slow and frustrating with the lack of communication,... more>> but the pace picks up pretty significantly soon so it all works out.

And well, not everything needs to have a conspiracy plot to drive the plot forward.
Spoiler

although there is a secret conspiracy in this. Squint and you'll see it. I think the author dropped hints early in the beginning. But again, not a major major plot point. It's still good without it :P

[collapse]

Bonus point to the MC that respects the ML's boundaries, and while he does gets handsy, he doesn't push the ML too far.

Just. The characters alone, from the MC and the ml, to the emperor and random family members and supporting characters that turn up, would be enough to guarantee an enjoyable read. Sure some plot points are predictable and cliche, but it's not meant to be a serious read. <<less

So far enjoying it. The overall plot is similar to many others. Prince was betrayed, then realized his male wife that was neglected is the only royal one, goes back in time to correct his wrongs and chase his love. What I like about it is that the Prince is not all-powerful with everything in the palm of his hand, he's a good general but he knows he's a musclehead and needs the wife's brain/help. And secondly, he's not controlling/secretive/manipulative and is open with his wife, so there's not much... more>> dragged out misunderstanding or implicit understanding at one glance despite being strangers or something. It's rather refreshing so far and I look forward to seeing them working together to navigate the complicated/hidden political scene. :) <<less

A very good, very adorable story. MC realized that ML is the one truly loyal to him & so he cherishes ML with all he has.

The two are very smart & complement each other really well. The brother is also good and they support each other well.

IDK why the links are gone but most of the translation is on Chrysanthemum Garden, except for the first couple of chapters, which can be found on WebNovel

There's a reason why good fluff is often short. It gets boring.

This story should have been half as long as it is or less. Feels like the author's pulled mini-plots out of a hat that have no throughline aside from Jing Shao's obsession and Mu Hanzhang's intelligence. Jing Shao and Mu Hanzhang, for whatever reason, appear to be an invincible power couple who do nothing but mack on each other and smack down every petty villain in their way. There's no tension or meaningful conflict. The author acknowledges points in... more>> their own story where they could have injected more conflict and opted not to. The best example of this was early in the novel when there's an incredibly dramatic introduction of a potential main plot and then nothing happens with it? It's never even mentioned again?

Additional nitpick: Why are there no young noblemen raised to become male wives when taking male wives is common practice in this society? Also, if Mu Hanzhang wasn't raised to be a wife, why is he not more traditionally manly for the setting he was raised in? He's a shy, delicate, passive, feminine archetype for at least the first half of the story. Frustrating. <<less
