Qi Xu was brought back to his wealthy birth family at the age of 18. At 28, he died in that same wealthy family.

Looking back on those ten years, Qi Xu realized he hadn’t exactly acted like a decent human being.

To show that he was mature and understanding, he actually turned down the jewels, luxury cars, houses, and yachts his biological parents gave him—completely wasting their good intentions.

He spent his whole life trying to prove that he was in no way inferior to the fake young master, only to end up betrayed by everyone, cast out by his loved ones, and die a tragic death after falling down the stairs.

Now reborn, Qi Xu decided: this time, he’s taking everything with him.

On the first day Qi Xu was brought back to the Shen family, Mr. and Mrs. Shen prepared two sapphires for both the real and fake young masters.

The fake young master was so “understanding” it hurt:

“I already have plenty of gems, Mom. Can I donate this to help build a school for the kids in the mountains?”

Qi Xu, receiving a gemstone for the first time, stared unblinkingly:

“Mom, can you buy me a safe to store my gems?”

When college started, the Shen couple gave each of the boys an apartment in a good school district to make studying easier.

The fake young master politely declined as usual:

“Dad, I haven’t even stayed in the seaside villa yet. Let’s give the school apartment to someone who really needs it.”

Qi Xu accepted smoothly:

“Thanks, Dad. I’ll move in right away.”

While everyone was praising the fake young master for being sensible and not materialistic, Qi Xu was already collecting rent from the school apartment.

And the tenant? It was none other than the fake young master’s childhood friend — the golden boy of the Xie family, Xie Huai, born at the top of the pyramid.

On rent day, Qi Xu knocked on Xie Huai’s door:

“Time to pay rent.”

Xie Huai had just come out of the shower, casually drying his half-wet hair.

“It’s Valentine’s Day today. Any special discounts?”

Qi Xu replied coolly:

“Nope. Single dog like me doesn’t celebrate Valentine’s Day.”

Xie Huai leaned down and kissed the corner of Qi Xu’s lips.

“Can’t I at least get a discount on utilities and half-off the rent?”

Qi Xu gave a cold laugh:

“Keep dreaming.”

You can have the person, but the rent stays full price.

This time around, Qi Xu took with him everything he didn’t have in his past life — including Xie Huai, who in the previous lifetime, had barely exchanged a few words with him.

It was OK. Really started to drag midway through.

What I did enjoy was the MC's passive approach to his "revenge" because the best thing to do is ignore and focus on the more important things.

The villain (s) were so lame. The reason for going after the MC was a bit dumb and unnecessary but there needed to an antagonist as well as some conflict so I understand their purpose. The climax was a bit of a let down as well. There was no grand build up to it so I... more>> didn't have any expectations but it felt sloppy.

The romance was a bit meh. It felt like I was told the MC and ML are in love rather than be shown it. I couldn't pinpoint exactly when they started developing feelings. Even the ML mentioned not knowing when he started falling for the MC. While that's reasonable for the character I feel like we as the audience should be able to see the shift in the characters since that's the job of the author.

Any issues I have with this may be because I finished it using mtl so maybe my thoughts would be different with good tls but this doesn't really any re-read value so I probably won't revisit once the tls are done <<less

A well-written novel that leans more toward redemption than revenge.

In his second life, the MC doesn't actively seek revenge—unless directly wronged—and even then, he doesn't return the pain he once received to his family nor to the adopted son (sign of emotional exhaustion), but he does it to others who wrong him. Quite contradictory since he also does whatever his wants. Still, this is a beautifully written novel with depth and emotion. It just may not fully satisfy readers looking for a vengeful comeback.

It is no exaggeration if I say that this is one of the best redemption and healing novels I have ever read.

Yes, although the theme this time sounds a bit cliche; about rebirth, late love in a previous life, biological child swapping as babies, conflict between biological and fake children, and very bad parents!

But, somehow, the author managed to write this story so beautifully. Usually when reading a story, I always skip a few chapters and go straight to the last chapter, but this novel, managed to make me feel... more>> curious, made me reluctant and did not want to skip a single writing. There was no boredom at all, making me spend two days reading all this story with a pounding heart.

Maybe this is a common theme, but I really like how the author makes it so beautifully. I practically love ML. He is a very possessive character, likes to control, has dark thoughts, and is cruel to enemies. Oh my gosh! I love this ML so much!

Spoiler

There is one scene where after MC had an accident, ML was scared to death, and because of that, ML then locked MC in a bedroom in his house and chained one of MC's legs so that he couldn't go anywhere except walking around in the bedroom. It was dark, but if you understand the reason, you will understand why he did that.

This MC is also not the type of weak young man who can't repay the bad deeds done by others. He will retaliate, hit and hurt his opponent. He also has his own ambition, standing alone without involving his plastic biological family. He will not tolerate people who want to hurt him.

The point is, the relationship between MC and ML is amazing. This is one of my favorite stories that I will never get tired of rereading. It's a shame that I don't have access to read the extra part >.<

I also want to thank the translator for taking this very beautiful and amazing story. I will reread all the chapters that you have published, and of course, I can't wait for the extra chapters!!

Thank You! <<less

The story had potential, and the translation is solid with frequent updates, but by mid chapter 50 I decided to officially give up.

The MC is supposedly in his late 20s but behaves like a moody teen almost all the time. The rest of the time he acts like an older teen going through a rebellious phase. I could not stand him at times, arguing over height like it actually mattered, refusing to use a pink mouthwash cup, and constantly acting more immature than relatives I have who haven't yet hit... more>> double digits. The ML, meanwhile, comes across like a 30-year-old trapped in a teenager’s body, and their interactions often feel unnatural and forced.

Worse, most of the characters feel like caricatures, and no one does one logical thing in the entire story. No one reacts like a regular person. They’re exaggerated, shallow, and written with so little nuance that it’s hard to connect with any of them. The brother, in particular, is frustratingly unrealistic, but honestly, MC's entire family and extended relatives are plain awful and comically paper-thin. The only exception is the grandfather, who feels like a real person.

What really pushed me over the edge was

a minor character throwing a tantrum after being rejected, acting like the MC owed him an affirmative answer simply because there aren’t many gay people around, or something like that. The way he behaved after was like a toothache to me. And it doesn't look good when the only and first "open" (that we know about and is specified) gay character acts like a Disney villain.

Then MC’s brother hears about this and tells the family, who

somehow twist the situation to blame MC, painting him as a manwho*e or something along those lines. It made no sense and was honestly pretty insulting.

I didn’t write down exactly what each character said because it was upsetting enough to read it once. With how poorly everything is written, I couldn’t tell if it was simply bad characterization or the author’s actual opinion leaking through (and yes, some homophobic Chinese authors do write gay romance). Either way, no matter how it was worded, it came across poorly.

Earlier, there was also a scene where MC’s extended family talked as if all gay people are walking STDs. These moments aren’t framed as critique or satire, they just read like clumsy writing at best, or unexamined bias at worst, and, as I mentioned above, it’s very hard to tell which one it is.

I don’t mind stories that include h*mophobia and how characters deal with it, but it needs to be handled well, and this story just doesn’t do that.

To top it off, the writing and story's pacing and narration are confusing at times and it’s hard to keep up with what is happening, especially when there are a lot of characters introduced and the author expects you to remember each one even though they are all very similar.

As someone who writes stories myself, I get how hard it is to cook up something enjoyable and comprehensible, but this honestly feels rushed and lazy, with little effort put into anything, if any. I think the author also needs to go talk to more people and hang out with actual rich people, because this novel reads like someone watched a movie and wrote based on that.

Disappointing read, and not worth continuing. Not my worst though. If people aren't as nitpicky as me or have low expectations, then go ahead. <<less
