This would be a pretty interesting read, if not for the protagonist and the inherently illogical nature of the setting.

Premise:

The MC was your typical, cookie-cutter average Japanese guy. His little sister practically blackmailed him into playing an otome game, because its gameplay portions were simply too hard for her. He completes the game, even going as far to buy P2W cheats in the in-game cash shop to progress, but then he dies of what is implied to be overwork, only to be reincarnated as a background character in the otome... more>> game he was playing.

Setting:

As others have pointed out, the biggest issue of this story is the completely self-contradictory setting. Apparently, because "this is an otome game", women are held in the same regard as men were in a feudal society... except not really. The narration repeatedly insists on that women hold all the power, and men are considered to be second class citizens, except it's still a kingdom with a king, men hold and inherit all the noble titles, men are in charge of the military, and all the important authority figures shown are men too. In other words, the "twist" of the setting exists for the sole reason to justify some girls and women being b*tchy and treating the MC like dirt without any consequences.

As for the metaphysics, the story is incredibly vague about them. There is no detailed magic system, nor are the floating islands, airships, or mechs explained; any details about them are just hand-waved as "this was a game", even though it obviously isn't anymore. The closest we get to proper world-building is when the MC discovers the location of the stash where the cheat items he bought from the cash shop are stored, and it is mentioned that the "old human civilization", which included an actual Japan, was destroyed by the "new humans" who had magic, but then the whole thread is dropped and never brought up again.

Characters:

The MC is inconsistent. He is a young man who has an overpowered mech, airship, and AI that can destroy countries, yet his primary worry is about not getting married to an old woman in a political marriage. He is a shit-stirrer who picks fights with powerful people and dresses them down at any chance he gets, but at the same time he is an absolute pushover. He is suave to the point he practically seduces the queen of the country over a misunderstanding, but at the same time he is incredibly dense and cannot get a clue about the signals the two pretty girls he finds cute are sending him, because "he is just a mob" and decides he doesn't have a chance with them. In other words, he is your typical, annoying pushover JP MC who gets really irritating on the long run.

The side-characters are okay. The female leads forming the MC's harem are all decently likable, the MC's reincarnated sister and his reverse-harem of the original capture targets are decently unlikable, but there really isn't anything to write home about them.

Plot:

There isn't much, to be honest. The MC has no long-term goals aside of his compulsive drive of finding someone to marry in the academy (ha-ha, because that's what young women would do, and this is a reverse word, so it's the guys doing it, ha-ha, real funny.../s). He is constantly jerked around by the circumstances, and since nobody in power seems to care the slightest about his overpowered equipment, most of the story revolving around petty school life drama instead. This might later change, as I have read stray comments about a war later, but I sincerely doubt the MC would become any more proactive.

Final verdict:

This had potential either as an absurd comedy, or a deconstruction of some otome game tropes. It's neither, instead it's just an inconsistent story with a pretty bad and borderline unlikable MC. It's not terrible, but not exactly good either. I would score it around 2.7/5. <<less

In terms of the quality of the story line for Volume 5, I think it has a less interesting story compared to the previous volumes. I quite enjoyed this volume 5 which discusses the development of the relationship between Leon da Noelle which in its web novel version is only slightly discussed. You could say for this volume as a small storm before a big storm hit, considering volume 6 will raise the story of volume 5 of the version of the web novel which became the volume that I... more>> look forward to. <<less

One of the good otome game genre novels with mob protaganist.

Spoiler

Even though there are parts that I didn't like when reading this novel, overall it was enjoyable. I don't mind mob protaganist but MC has laid back attitude and won't make moves until he felt like it or it's necessary. He has mob protaganist mentality. He is annoying most of time but takes action when it's necassary.

[collapse]

First part of the story (up to V3 Epilogue + Extra story Rude and Rauda) was better than second part (V4+). Short story Marie Route was interesting too (there are 3 parts for now but it might continue until the last volume).

First part ending was satisfying for me.

Spoiler

Secod part more like new story on world tree continent with new main heroine.

Okay, I'm going to defend this novel a little that I loved so much.

First of all, we should consider it as a parody of the average isekai otome. Mobseka is a novel just to entertain and hang out, it is not a masterpiece, although that is subjective, since it is a work that is based more on comedy.

This novel mixes a romantic comedy with the genre Isekai and the Otomes. That makes me like it a lot.

The own Leon (MC), speaks of how s*upid and illogical that is the same... more>> world where it develops, and still, in volume 3 give reasons why the Kingdom gives preferences to women. The history of the Principality is also interesting, as is the history of Hertrude and his younger sister.

What about the characters?

Spoiler

The protagonist, Leon, is my favorite protagonist today. Initially, I had found a fairly average MC, however, as vol 1 progresses, you will see that he is a character with Hachiman syndrome. That is, despite not being asocial, he is cynical, arrogant, self-centered and selfish in many occasions. He has a personality similar to Hachiman in that aspect, and we can see more of his personality by reading the novel in the first person. He is an unconventional protagonist, and does not try to be the typical MC of romantic comedy or isekai. They say that the protagonist is a fool to get the Livia's objects at the start? That is, he was going to marry an old woman, obviously he decided to do that since otherwise his life would be ruined.

Did he fall in love with Livia for no reason? I don't think, Livia has her charm, her personality contrasts quite a lot with Leon, and that's why he fell in love with her. And Anjie, because she seems to be strong, but deep down she's pretty too. After spending so much time with both of them and discovering their personalities (and that both have large breasts), Leon would obviously fall in love with them.

Luxon is a character that also serves for comedy. It mostly annoys Leon, and is a character that seems to be important to the story with that of the reincarnated.

Marie is equal to Leon in several aspects, the own novel makes it clear, but at the same time, it is seen that she loves her older brother. It's not exactly bad, just selfish, but she still loves her older brother and depends on him several times.

The five idiots are good for comedy, and before someone says they are not funny, HUMOR IS SUBJECTIVE. Not to mention that even Leon got a little more relationship with them, mainly during the time he was with Brad and Greg, or with Chris.

[collapse]

In conclusion, it is a novel that fascinated me a lot. It has good comedy (is subjective), its characters are not typical of an average romantic comedy, and the MC is the best of all. The tsukkomis of the MC are funny, and I love their thoughts too.

At first, the story is fairly interesting and seeing the MC's actions and reactions to his surroundings is quite fun. The world-building and the characters are very shallow but I wasn't expecting some amazing quality going into this novel and so was enjoying reading it.

BUT, I got tired of the MC's ridiculously annoying personality after he just wouldn't grow up even though many things backfired onto him. He doesn't want to be promoted yet keeps doing things otherwise. He has an extremely wishy-washy mind... he doesn't want to get involved... more>> with the main characters too much but also can't leave them. So he keeps swinging from one end to the other. Oh and he's an extreme pushover and does s*upid things like not killing his enemies because he just doesn't like it (even though the same enemies were willing to mu*der him and his friends just seconds ago). There is just no character growth and I was constantly getting frustrated reading this so I dropped it. <<less

Just caught up with the novel and I gotta say this story is pretty good overall.

The premise is pretty basic: ... more>>
Spoiler

guy dies and gets isekai-ed into a weird adventure/otome game where men are society's lowest step, being practically work s*aves for rich women; he naturally is reborn into a mob with no other future than to become the manservant of some random old woman, so to avoid that fate he decides to become an adventurer by getting the most powerful cheat item in-game and gain enough fame to become independient of his family and live his life idly, but his plan backfires and gathers the attention of the kingdom who enlist him in the royal academy where the otome's main story will happen.

[collapse]

At first sight, this novel is another of many other 'MC reborns in another world and everything goes his way thanks to [X] OP power' but the more you read it the more you realize that's not the case. Firstly, Leon (MC) is far from your average protagonist: he's neither a beta pushover who just happens to be a good person, nor your goody-two-shoes who wants to save others just because yes. He's a super sardonical, selfish, witty half-as*hole who, while has a good moral compass and has no desire for conflict, will definitely pick a fight on anyone who pisses him off. The OP power he gets early on, Luxion,
Spoiler

a psychopathic AI-controlled battleship with enough firepower to send the entire world to hell,

[collapse]
is constantly there to remind him of how OP is he, but ultimately not using his full capacities due to personal preferences.

But what is the strongest point of the story, in my personal opinion, is Leon pseudo-antagonist, Marie
Spoiler

another reincarnated person who, unlike Leon, decided to live lavishly in the Otome game by stealing ALL the love targets from the otome protagonist and making her own reverse harem, without knowing how important it was for the love interest to fall in love with the protagonist storywise, and who also happens to be deeply related to Leon in his previous life.

[collapse]
She's without a doubt the most interesting character of the novel, because her entire personality is flawled and rotten to the core, having practically zero redeeming qualities but at the same time her flaws and selfish actions have direct consecuences in Leon, the main story settings and especially in herself, making her a somewhat pitiful character who is the worst victim of her own doings and, at some point you kind of wish she could take the MC role from Leon because she's honestly a nasty but hilarious woman!

The issue for what I don't rate the story with five stars is because while it's an interesting story, it does have some terrible flaws in its structure. First and what I see as the biggest problem, is that Leon's romantic interest are too two-dimensional. Probably this was made intentionally, but during the first two volumes Olivia and Ange are practically booktext definition of 'beta love interests', practically they have nothing interesting to aport to the story other than the damisels in disgrace Leon has to save. This is later fixed at the end of V2 and all V3 but their existence still hold so few weight storywise that they could be easily replaced by other girls and you wouldn't notice the change.

Secondly, is the obliviousness of Leon. Here is where Leon's strongest point as MC becomes his greatest weakness, he's very straightforward and decisive when it comes to get an objective done in the most efficient way, but if he doesn't have a goal in specific to pursue, he suddenly becomes a lazy dunce who can't figure left from right and is simply swept along with the story. He's terribly paranoic and blind to others' feelings and most of the time, he'll just assume others want him to do him wrong even when they're doing him a favour,
Spoiler

and in V3, when his love interests showed genuine feelings for him, his natural course of action was to run away because he didn't know what to make of it and only got together with them because his entire family, both romantic interests, his friends and even the royal family set him up and cornered him in a way that he had absolutely choice but face their feelings head on

[collapse]
.

And thirdly but not less important... the chapters are too short! Not all the time, but in several occasions, details of the story are left to interpretation for the reader or relegated as side info in the background when it could become active part of the plot.
Spoiler

An example would be the explanation of the old humanity and new humanity. So far we've given few glimpses and small details of that part of the story, but given that that's an important part in the background of Luxion and Creare, another AI that appears later in the story, you would expect it were more relevant in the plot, but no... unless the author is saving it for later volumes, that's it.

[collapse]

Well, overall it's a good novel worth reading if you have some time to spare. I can't see it becoming an iconic story over the years nor it will gather a huge fanbase, but it's definitely a must-read if you like this kind of stories. <<less

Not much to talk about the main story. Started out pretty good, then went downhill later on.

Marie's side story is really great though. It's a cute romance story about a mob protagonist, falling in love with his mob girlfriend and doing mob stuffs when important events are happening, then sh*t hit the fan and they'll have to be involved with the main characters. This side story really is what this light novel should've been.

This is a comedy/action/school life/mecha series, but most of the focus is on the comedy. The action is passable, but it could definitely have more intense, detailed, and vivid moments. It really falls short at the critical moments, which leaves an action-junky like me a bit crestfallen. The school life doesn't make much sense. The mecha history is cool, but no background or explanation is given about that at all.

The setting exists, but it's largely nonsensical and filled with plot holes. Even the reasons for how sexist the society in... more>> the first game has become doesn't make sense. Regarding the setting and background information, I recommend readers do what the MC does and ignore it. These things are not thought out. There's magic with mecha and monsters and demons and dungeons, but there's this weird sexist society with a reduced proportion of men. No explanation is given for any of these things, and there is zero information on magic even by the end of the third volume. No magic system or explanation has been given at all. If magic is hardly used, then why is it so important? Details about the classes at school are absent with the exception of tea ceremony, and physical training at school is only mentioned once. Even though the society is extremely sexist against men, women can have as many s*x s*aves or male lovers as they want. Many common women can't get a husband because there's such a shortage. At the same time, men become so disheartened trying to win the hearts of women, they sometimes end up coupling with one another by high school graduation. By the way, men are still the heirs of their households and carry their family lines, even though the women are in charge. What?

I forgot to mention the dash of sci-fi that matches with the mecha. Even though there was a highly advanced civilization with space ships, advanced healing technology, and world-destroying weaponry in the past, somehow all of this was lost when the new humans took over? What? How does this make sense? World background, where are yoooou?

The plot is all over the place as well with abundant unreasonable developments.

So it's my recommendation to pretend the world background and common sense do not exist in this series. Just think of it as a comedy.

The MC is a hypocritical, half-hearted lazy guy following the cliche that "he can do things if he tries." Rather than an unreliable protagonist, he is one who straight-up lies about his feelings and goals. It feels like he's completely just following his whims and doing things willy-nilly. His actions and speech are often unrelated or even in disagreement with each other. He doesn't think things through even slightly when he takes action. Although he was adult office employee in his past life, he doesn't have any character development while adapting to this sinister world or first using his weapons or even killing people. Although he admires his dad for only having one woman he loves, he can't seem to follow those same principles. Does he think it's fair to the girls who like him to grow a harem instead of loving one person fully like he originally planned? He lost a lot of respect for me when the series truly went toward a harem route at the end of volume 3.

By the way, he thinks it's perfectly okay to suppress women--just not for women to suppress men. Every single ounce of him is hypocritical in one way or another. As for the other characters, most of them are rather shallow with minimal development as well, so they're fairly unmentionable.

This is a fun comedy series that made me laugh while reading it. However, things like setting, plot holes, and character depth need to be thrown aside to enjoy it. It's also important to just laugh at the MC's problems and try to not be too disgusted by his half-heartedness and hypocrisy. There's no suspense whatsoever to battles because the MC is too OP to worry about. This is just a fun casual read.

I'm waiting to rate this series because there are supposed to be big changes in the fourth and fifth volumes. Currently, I'd rate it 3/5. <<less

I am really annoyed at the end of the third volume. The first arc has concluded and it has left me fuming at the author. The idea of the novel is quite simple, the entire world shits on the MC but when trouble arises, he is forced to take charge and become the hero. This pattern is repeated throughout the volume and the way the world treats him gets worse by the chapter and builds up to a payoff where the MC saves the day and he puts everyone in... more>> their place. Except that the payoff is extremely underwhelming and insignificant.

Spoiler

The people who have hurt him and his love interests are dealt with as an afterthought. There are instances where he is ab*sed by the students in his school and absolutely nothing comes out of it. Everything is forgotten and never mentioned again.

At the end of the third volume, the MC comes to know that someone has caused his lovers to be humiliated in front of their peers and he absolutely looses his mind and actually goes for the kill. Whoa, where did this come from? It looks like things are getting interesting. Nope, it's played of as a joke and we are deprived of the payoff.

[collapse]

It looks like the author has attempted to go for a comedic angle where we are supposed to laugh at the situations that the MC is put under. I don't know if something has been lost in translation, but it just doesn't work. Everything comes of as annoying and sad rather than funny. The 5 clowns are still a big part of the story and are used for overused gags time after time. And they will be a part of the story in the future.

I am left frustrated that the MC has not learnt his lesson and grown through the trials he has faced. After everything, he still remains the same. It works for characters like one punch man cause, but not for this MC (I forgot his name. Just checked, it's Leon). He has to face real trials and ab*se where he handicaps himself and then learns nothing from it. His motivations and goals are completely different from the actions that he takes. The author tries to make it so that Leon is forced to act against his goals but it is not done in a convincing manner.

Overall, I won't recommend this novel. It is interesting at the start, which might tempt you into reading further, but it's not worth it.

edit- I thought of giving it 2 stars, but am unable to change it. I guess the start was good, which should be worth something. <<less

This is by far my personal interest [which is OP, MC is just above average and got a OP AI not himself] and it's annoyed me greatly sometimes, yet it's still worth reading [if it get to your head just skip some lines]

The greatest thing about this story for most everyone should be its new genre, but the most interest thing that keep me reading is "The Balance", almost everything is balance. Like a certain someone going around stealing things yet it's later reveal that they're all burdens... and that... more>> she CAN'T throw them away... poor little devil... [it's fine as long as all unjust MC suffer is paid back, it is paid back here but suffer 3 times then get back once. in other word, it's still freaking annoying.

But the most clear balance is, there're 2 reincarnators, 1 get the boys, 1 get the girls

Next is the bad points, well, like most japanese novel, the MC suck... not all the time though [but most of the time] and while not being hated, the heroines are not that lovely, they're too gooood... to everyone, not with MC only

PS: spoilers alert...

...

volume 3 is the end of disc 1 of the "otome game", there's at least 3 disc mentions and MC only cleared disc 1 <<less

Well, the story is kinda nice here and there when the main character is shredding through enemies. Sadly those scenes are short lived.

The story does do a good job at making the other characters look like idiots and b*tches. Hell, I do want to see a horrible end to most of those characters, specifically the protagonist's sisters in both lives. It seems like the dude does not have good luck with the sisters he has.

I would love to have given this 5 or even 4 stars, yet it falls into the MC rut problem.

It has an interesting premise with both realistic outside game events and culture that go counter to the actual game that they have entered. The other thing that I enjoyed is the interesting parts of where the otome game follows the character builds to a T, leading them (both Targets and side characters) as being the most ret*rded of people as they where not developed into anything people would really want... more>> to interact with long term. Lastly the simple backfiring of events that go outside the game is comical to a good degree.

However the faults are too typical and side head hitting to ignore. The MC does not actually learn anything, nor adapt to the culture he is placed in. This is a problem with almost every Japanese story I have read. They care too much about the Japan way and how it was in Japan to realize they are not IN Japan. Another main problem is that the AI keeps educating him of this and he blatantly refuses to accept it. The next thing to hate about this is the hypocritical nature of the MC, he hates what he is, yet does nothing to change it. Also he hates people that only care about themselves and only cares about himself. I know that is not the best way to get people to like the story as that is truly the ONLY thing that I have no qualms with.

The battles are short enough to enjoy, yet not glossed over to the point where you can skip a line and go "What happened?"

The gradual advancement of the MC's rank is nice, and the political system in the story is a nice add on as well. Not sure if I enjoy the whole floating island territory things, as it never gets explained on how they are all floating, nor do you even understand what the f*ck is going on nationally outside his promotions. The story has a lot, and I mean A LOT, of potential, but the MC is what destroys the best parts of it so far.

Only read this if you want a good laugh and have free time, do not go out of your way. <<less

I've read a lot of novels and this one seems to be the one that I've actually been attached to.

Lots of you saying the MC's personal growth is 0, but I'd say he is growing bit by bit every volume but also sometimes it reverts back to 0. Personally I'd say it's because of his mob mindset and the fact that he is a reincarnated person.

Spoiler

In the recent chaper his soul is currently in the afterlife which is in Japan which kinda means (for me) that he never really felt assimilated into the world of the game.

Leon and other reincarnated characters had different approaches on how they lived on alte liebe (name of game)

Marie: saw an opportunity to replace the protagonist of the 1st game

Lelia: was aware of her position and tried to control the path of the 2nd protagonist (failed till the end)

Finn: saw the spitting of his past life sister on the 3rd protagonist and decided to be a part of her life till he can secure a proper capture target for the 3rd protagonist

3rd protagonist's father: was not aware he reincarnated into the game until he saw and remembered the setting of the 3rd game

Leon: was forced to gain luxion (by the threat of zola and marriage). Since he held the power of luxion he unwillingly was caught between the conflicts of the story.

Great novel with a decent world building, mecha, magic and MC. Though the MC is questionable and it's companion one eyed floating robot orb. I grew to like his unique characteristics with a dual comedy bit coming through their fight of words.

Typical Japanese novel. It started with a comedic and interesting premise, but it's ruined with 1.5 dimensional characters with forced plot that makes 0 sense.

The other characters will just keep their mouth shut about something really important just because, just to reveal it near towards the end so that the extremely dense protag will solve the problem (even though the protag himself tries to display someone that's different from other protag and not being dense).

Then there's also the problem with the protag himself that's plagued in Japanese novels. He's a... more>> 30 something y.o inside a 16 y.o body but he acts like a 12 y.o.

The plot will grind and repeat this for every volume, he'll act a little cool at the end after being dumb as a pig for the entirety of the arc and boom, happy end with a bunch of plot holes. This has repeated itself 5 times through 5 volumes already.

It's like he gets 0 character development, which is another problem that plague Japanese novel. Why do they never learn?

This is why I prefer Chinese and Korean's, I gave it a try thinking it'd be different and that it'd be mainly comedy but the comedy feels too forced the longer it goes on and fails miserably at being funny. The part where the story tries to dramatize and take itself seriously is just as I said, dumb protag -> realizes the problem near the middle -> solves problem and act cool at the end of the volume -> repeat. <<less

This series starts off quite strong, and if you took the first three volumes on their own it's a pretty good series with interesting characters and great humor. After that the humor is still good, but the story starts repeating the same notes and adding more waifus until Leon is no different than your typical dense LN protagonist with a harem and characters that don't get enough development because each volume has to feature a new waifu for some reason. I ended up liking Marie as a character a lot... more>> more though as she develops, and the story is still quite funny. Still it started off with a strong premise but, like a lot of light novel series, suffers from sequelitis. <<less

I stuck it out for 3 volumes which made me feel qualified to leave a review.

It has good moments, but the entire plot of the novel revolves around the MC being a beta and a dumb one at that. The author makes the MC have enough power to destroy the whole world (in the first or second chap so its not even a spoiler) but has him do nothing because he "wants to live a quiet life" oh yeah but he also buts his head into every situation because he's... more>> a good guy :)))))))))) MC just took whatever desire I had to read the novel and destroyed it, like I wish he would with his enemies in this novel.... <<less

I honestly couldn't recommend this to anyone. Its just so dry. And geez those first 3 or 4 chapters of the story are absolutely shit. Honestly just skip to the school arc if you want anything resembling a story.

Besides those first few chapters there's nothing else thats overly offensive but its just boring! Theres pretty much no tension whatsoever because of those op robots. He also just strangely good at everything without much explanation.

This world is a matriarchal world. But even for a world where woman rule alot of the... more>> stuff they do makes no sense. The MC uses the excuse "because its just a game" way too much to explain all the terrible logic. Sorry but reverse harems in a world where men are actually encouraged to go die in wars just makes no sense. There should be a population problem where theres more woman then men. So unless this new breed of humans just naturally has a birth tendency towards more men then this world is seriously flawed in logic.

As for characters themselves, most of them are annoying. All the women are incredibly mean and the guys are way to submissive. A consequence of said matriarchal world, but its just incredibly difficult to slog thru.

the only thing even remotely interesting about this world are the very diverse cast of s*aves. And We get little to no information about them. <<less
