Honestly, I can't tell if this novel is just decent or absolutely garbage. I'll try to use this review to process my own feelings on whether to continue reading this.

The biggest problem for me in this book is the storytelling. Or rather lack thereof. I'm in chapter 50's and there are just way too many things left 'open' in the story. I guess, or rather suppose, that it's done on purpose to create some sort of.. mystery? But the things I'm talking about are s*upid and mundane, so they end... more>> up looking like gags and are just brushed off.

There are seemingly infinite things that the author just doesn't even bother to explain. There is no background given to the world, no background to the characters, no nothing. At chapter 1 we just "spawn" in what seems like a typical setting of.. getting.. maybe?.. isekai'd into another world, and running a "card shop" there. Great. Now, what the f*ck are cards? Why do people use them? What are the instances? Can cards be used multiple times? How does one create cards? Why are some other people stronger than others? Just so many questions left unanswered.

And those are just the easy things, the basic stuff.. things every author usually just slips in to polish their worldbuilding. To showcase and introduce characters. To create plot devices and plot forwarding points. But not here..

That's not even me counting in the big things, like the what-appears-to-be-a-system that's.. sort of revealed in chapter 54? Or maybe it was just a humorous gag, I honestly can't tell. Or who is the "master" of the main character, why she able to spy on MC's thoughts and control his body at will, what is their power relationship?

I mean, I get partly why it's written this way, some of this stuff is lot more meaningful and interesting when its discovered as the story goes on. But not the crucial things! I don't know what the f*ck to think about most the stuff.

All of this is not to say that the story doesn't have it's good parts, otherwise I wouldn't be struggling whether to or not to continue reading. The main character seems relatively interesting, the world has potential, there are some decent humorous moments.. These parts are actually rather alright. I even kind of like the setting.. Well, what's being portrayed anyway.

After giving this some serious thought I'm probably dropping this. I just really dislike this way of writing a story where nothing is explained and no values for the reader is generated to be able to assess situations in the book. I get that for a comedic story it does give a lot of freedom for the execution of the story, but it just makes it kind of boring and null to read. The main character can completely decimate foes way stronger than him because of... Nothing? He just does it laughing. But sometimes a crying princess can completely stump him. It's all so imbalanced and unquantifiable. Somehow this irks me. It's probably better not be irked while reading a book you're trying to like. <<less

I unfortunately ran out of free translated chapters to read. The other website is pay to read. And it's not even fully translated yet.

I won't read the MTL. I feel like it'll ruining the mood of the novel lol.

Dekan is so funny and really unpredictable. I love the other characters as well. They're full of amazing personalities.

His cards brings unexpected fun effects haha. Wish I can read more.

I. WILL. BE. BACK. ONCE. THERE. IS. AN. UPDATE!

This is without a doubt, the funniest novel I've ever read. Every single chapter, I'm left baffled by how absurd the MC's personality and shenanigans are. I am on the floor, speechless, and addicted to this novel at this point.

The MC is by far the most vicious, evil, person in this novel. The villains literally pale in comparison.

It's really funny with a MC whose entire arsenal of attacks is filled with troll moves and dirty tricks. MC is quite sadistic and revels in inflicting the maximum possible emotional distress on his enemies.

While there is quite a bit of world building I think it's best to view it as a comedy as MC pretty much exploits loopholes to win

A breath of fresh air in the midst of all those Korean WNs that filled the Rankings of the site recently. It's a Chinese novel, so you can expect that its rating better reflects the story's quality. It has its own flaws and some ideas and characters are underutilized and aren't developed enough, and it seems that at some point the author started to hurry up to finish the main plot, so the last 1/4 has a way faster pace than the rest of the story. Still, it doesn't have... more>> any major plot holes that would make me cringe or lose interest, it is also super fun and engaging to read and the way the main character fights is fascinating. The world building isn't overly detailed, but clever and helps the author to tell a surprisingly complex story. It's not a grand masterpiece, though it could've been one with some more polish. It gives some LOTM vibes, which says a lot.

Regarding the translation... it's not perfect, and honestly even Google Translate does a decent job at translating Chinese nowadays, so I completed the story using MTL without noticing a significant decline in quality, lol. I also used GPT 3.5 partially, but it messes up names too much despite having an overall better TL, maybe GPT-4 is better at this. <<less

This novel came in like a baseball bat and knocked my previous favourite novel into the dust, before proceeding to kick it while its down and dispose of the body in the endless abyss out the window.

All jokes aside, this is genuinely one of the best novels on this site, and I'm surprised I haven't seen it higher on the rankings. The fight choreography, world building, and sheer comedic genius (as another reviewer put it SSS+ comedy) are all outstanding and never leave you dissatisfied (except when waiting for the... more>> next chaper). To top it all off, the power mechanics are refreshlingly unique and well used. MC doesn't pull a new power out of his ass all the time, but makes great use of his current arsenal to maximum effect while still leaving tons of room for further expansion due to the nature of the power system as a cardmaker. <<less

This is like a fanfiction of the 90s MtG novels (people use cards to summon equipment, cast spells, or summon monsters to fight) but with a confident, shameless, somewhat demonic MC. Planar invasions that card-wielders have to use their cards to fight off, duels between card-wielders, and the characters are young adults - it's the MtG novel reboot that I didn't know I wanted.

I'm enjoying it immensely, in large part due to the ridiculous cards that the MC uses - they really remind me of Unglued, the 1998 joke expansion.... more>> Secondarily, the MC and both other characters are adorable, and I'm enjoying their interactions quite a lot - the other two (three counting his teacher) are fun, and different from each other. There's also, thus far, no sign of arbitrary love - both other characters are friends with the MC for understandable reasons, and haven't shown any signs of wanting more, despite the MC being described as particularly handsome. The MC also has no interest in them romantically, despite having a clear idea of what he wants in a romantic partner. I find this pleasing.

To sum up, it's a light novel version of the 1990s MtG books, with a healthy dose of comedy, and I am here for it. <<less

I don’t know why I was a little late finding this gen but I’m glad I did.

The follows an MC that is reincarnated, has a strong master that is probably a demon who is in a card, which is the main power and weapon type of the world in this novel. Our MCs goal is to repair the card of his master and create the ultimate waifu card. Now, the MC follow the physically weak but cunning archetype, and as usual will be running around collecting misfits for his team.

I... more>> hope tl stays with us until the end of this novel and never drops it. <<less

In my mind I really do long for a fun and lighthearted life, but I have a terrible personality. Vicious, cruel and selfish I'll knock a house down to kill a mosquito. Really its quite exhausting. But a new concept came to mind; if I could take my talent for collateral damage and change that to collateral good. To embrace my wicked self yet have a fun and carefree life, maybe Duncan can show me the way.

This is currently one of my favorite novels that I've been reading lately. I would describe it as more of a comedy than action type story. The main premise is that in this world there are "shadow worlds" which you can think of as basically random dungeons, in said dungeons there is usually some kind of plot like a mu*der mystery. In the world this is usually a serious ordeal that people take as life threatening. Then the main comedy comes from how the main character is more devious than... more>> the villains, and how he tricks them, and how him & co treat the shadow worlds that people take so seriously as more of a playground than a life threatening event.

If I remember (its been a while so might not be correct) the beginning was a bit slow before he gets to the academy, but I would recommend reading through until at least the end of the first shadow world, since I believe thats when the book gets good.

Update as of c323:

Spoiler

I used mtl so take this all with a grain of salt but up to this point in the story I was still enjoying it a lot. The one big flaw that might be due to machine translation is that the romance felt very forced. There was definitely a good relationship between the two but when it came to the actual progression in their relationship it just felt off and a bit out of character. Its something I don't think ruins the book, but I do think that it could of definitely been better. Again, could of been due to weird mtl but since everything else didn't feel off I'm inclined to believe that romance isn't the authors strong suit so it came off as a bit forced.

This is the funniest comedy novel ever. If you're tired of seeing naive, indecisive and s*upid MCs, read this novel. Dekan, the MC, is one of the best/amazing MC I've found. He has so many good points on him, such as : Super Smart, Cautious borderline Paranoid (LOL) , Decisive, Has thick face, Will so anything to achieve his goal, Smooth talker (smoother than a butter), and Swindler. There are many more but you have find it on your own

That's only about the MC, and now I'm talking about the... more>> story

Like I said in the opening, this novel is the funniest novel I've found. It's because the comedic jokes or scenes in this novel aren't created in a forced way (like they're trying too hard to be funny, but no), they're created in an amazing way to the point you will find yourself suddenly laugh without prior notice. You need to find out by yourself

For the side characters, they aren't just cardboard characters, they felt alive, especially those major side characters, you will find them entertaining, reacting to the absurdness of Dekan, our MC.

Once again, you need to read this novel if you want to find out more. You won't regret using your time to read it <<less
