What this novel has done exceptionally well! the MC and ML were written soo welll! The great communication both of them have! They are such a green flag and really try to work together with their flaws. Bai Li has such great character growth throughout the novel and Lu Zhao also growing alongside Bai Li made me soo happy. If you want to read a novel with great charecter writing for both MC and ML read this novel, also the social commentary was soo spot on! That if made me reflect on a lot of things!!What makes Bai Li such an amazing character is that he is human, despite coming of as a young master who fears nothing. We read how crushed by the world he is, yet despite living in fear of what the world might throw at him, he does not let the fear consume his life. He tries to be good and tries to do good no matter if it leads to change or not. One line of Bai Li that stuck with me was as long as there is human society, money, power, lineage etc, create social hierarchies, so all one can do is, in whatever position they find in life, at least a decent or good person. This line resonated with me so much because its such a simple thing yet many people can't do that, But Bai Li does that, and this is excatly the reason Lu Zhao holds Bai Li so dear and says Bai Li deserves to be told the most gentle and kind words yet can also be adored with words of highest valour. To him because in simple terms, Bai Li is a good person, even when the world beats him down low, he is being tortured by crippling anxiety, feels helpless about his ab*sed mother, at the end of it, he tries to be a good person.
