Omega Lu Zhao, known as the “Eagle of the Emperor” in military circles, married Bai Li, a retired Alpha who lost a leg.

Overnight, the Imperial Forum erupted in controversy. Countless omega cried for their idol marrying the wasteful son, and numerous Alphas gnashed their teeth in jealousy over Bai Li marrying a formidable military figure.

This marriage was no longer a bouquet of flowers in a cow dung fields, but flowers stuck on concrete – lacking not only aesthetics but also the nourishment provided by cow dung. On the wedding day, Bai Li received the title of “Empire’s Concrete.”

Fortunately, Bai Li must be the most handsome piece of concrete.

Many years later, Bai Li attended Lu Zhao’s celebration party as a family member.

Reporter: “Mr. Bai, what do you think of others saying that you’re living off your partner?”

Bai Li: “Living off someone is really delicious.”

Reporter: “Mr. Bai, how do you respond to criticism that you allow your Omega partner to work outside and even participate in mecha battles?”

Bai Li: “Living off someone is really delicious.”

Reporter: “… Mr. Bai, do you have any dignity as an Alpha?”

Bai Li: “You people, you’re just upset because you can’t enjoy living off someone like me.”

Reporter: “Mr. Lu, what do you think of others saying that you are too strong and not docile?”

Lu Zhao: “I can fight, can’t help it.”

Reporter: “Mr. Lu, how do you respond to recent accusations from the outside world about you being too prominent?”

Lu Zhao: “i can fight, can’t help it.”

Reporter: “You can do this too?”

Lu Zhao: “Well, he didn’t want to eat, but I insisted he eat.”

The carefree and smooth-talking alpha (Bai Li) x the capable and composed omega (Lu Zhao) who can fight and be assertive

Married before falling in love. Warm daily life.

This novel had plots that gave me intense goosebumps, made me bawl my eyes out, made me so inspired it felt like free therapy, made me feel a love so healthy, it could ruin disney, and was just an overall FANTASTIC rollercoaster of an epic story I've read in a while. It has become my top 5 not just as a transmigration novel, but for it's entirety. I really hope I'll be able to write this review that's able to justify how good I think this novel is.

My summary:

This novel... more>> is about our MC transmigrating as a villan cannon fodder in a novel, and he transmigrated literally as a child (as soon as he was born). I know "another transmigration novel" but trust me... after reading for a while, it truly goes beyond that (bear with me). Understanding his fate and having an idea of what will happen to him in the future, he does his best to try and deviate from the plot. He thought he was able to change things, but despite all his efforts through the years, the main canon event about his leg being ruined still happened, although it happened a few months later than when it was supposed to.

He begins to feel like he can't change anything, the fear that's so overwhelming, he eventually starts to believe that no matter what, he's still resigned to the looming inevitablity that eventually comes...

From here, you start to see how the small changes that he keeps making, the things that continue happening start to slowly affect the plot of the world's novel... like a domino falling one chip at a time... how it wasn't just one thing that needed changing, but an accumulation of everything that would eventually move mountains and eventually win AGAINST this so-called fate.

The characters:

The MC (Bai Li) is depicted as a silly, outgoing, happy-go-lucky character with a goddamn funny and smart mouth that just leaves people sour - absolutely hilarious. BUT as you keep reading, despite the times when it gets so difficult for him, you see the character's strength... his determination... his willpower! And the F***CKIN' GODDAMN BALLS to hit FATE flat in its face.

And the ML (Lu Zhao)... ahhh, he was written so perfectly imo. The best pillar of support, the unsinking ship, the gravity that keeps MC grounded. From the beginning of this novel, you already see his clumsy, kudere way of him interacting with the MC, and just both their interactions were so straightforward, sometimes clueless, but just overall PERFECT and at times, just damn adorable. My favourite thing with the ML is his straightforward and stubborn attitude with dealing with his feelings - no detours, literally charging straight ahead. What better match than someone who can stand by MC, literally through it all.

My favourite quotes:

Quote #1

Aside from the years he’d spent on the affiliated planet in his youth, Lu Zhao’s daily routine was essentially just training and sleeping. Day after day, he didn’t feel bored—it was as natural as breathing.

Training brought results, making him stronger. Sleeping kept his body functioning properly. These were necessary parts of his life, and he had no complaints about it.

Bai Li, however, was an unexpected twist of fate. The system had matched him with Bai Li, so he had to accept it.

Luckily, it was Bai Li. The thought crossed Lu Zhao’s mind suddenly. Luckily, it was Bai Li.

Quote #2

He knew he should let go, but his hand still gripped Lu Zhao’s arm. He gripped it so tightly that even Bai Li himself thought it was too much, but Lu Zhao didn’t avoid it.

Lu Zhao didn’t shy away. He was different from Bai Li.

The sound of rain hitting the windows filled the silence, and Lu Zhao felt Bai Li clutching him like a piece of driftwood. But Lu Zhao didn’t want to be driftwood; he wanted to be a ship that never sinks.

Maybe then Bai Li could emerge from his shell and wouldn’t fear being drowned by the sea.

Quote #3

Some people’s emotions make no sound, as silent as a calm pool of water. You only know how deep it is once you jump in. <<less

One of the best ABO novels I've read. Bai Li is so well rounded - he feels so real, his struggle is so so visceral and his character feels like a real person. He's arrogant, flashy and stubborn but he's also shy, scared and wanting reassurance. He's so so resilient but also fragile and this makes him such a well written character whose anxieties and triumphs both feels deserved and makes sense for him.

Lu Zhou is also so great. Like his steadfast presence and him learning to love and letting... more>> himself have a family and home and still move on his th**ny path and not giving up his ambition and hardwork is amazing. Like his slow and steady growth in his relationship with Bai Li and eventually taking the initiative to break down the shell around Bai Li makes sense and doesn't feel like it cheapens his character. I absolutely love that they don't reduce him to just an omega or whatever and instead keep his strength throughout.

Their dynamic carries the story and it's so rewarding when we get to see them both reach the skies. The side characters are also good and aren't just brushed aside. The main couple have their own friends and they don't dramatically change but instead slowly grow and make space for each other and its so beautiful.

The underlying narrative of Bai Li fighting fate again and again despite the numerous set backs and both Lu Zhou and him paving a way through is so so visceral and inspiring. Like yes it's so hard to go against fate and stand up again and again after falling down but Bai Li does it still and it made me cry honestly.

Absolutely beautiful I highly recommend this.

Spoiler

When people later spoke of "Bai" the noble Bai Family had long since faded from the existence, but what they left behind was more then just surname.

The Bai Family declined -- yet the Bai spirit live on.

I really really liked this story, it was written very realistically.

Btw just a friendly reminder, if you are the type of person who likes stories where MC and ML are started from the bottom to the top without any scratches, then this story is not for you.

Because in this story they will really fight from the bottom to the top with full of wounds, and some of them will still remain... they are not perfect, but those imperfections are what make this story extraordinary.

Maybe I'm a real sucker for MCs that fight against their predetermined destinies, but this novel really tugged my heartstrings in many ways.

Both the male leads are emotionally strong, and they support one another. Their relationship was full of love and healthy communication. What I love most about this novel is how the author did not make them perfect main characters. All the characters have individualistic flaws, but they find people who accept them for being themselves.

The author gave a twist to a common troupe, making the main character the... more>> disabled gong of common interstellar novels, and they did it in such a respectful way it never felt as if his disability was just used as a plot device. The MC, Bai Li, struggles a lot with his identity and his injured leg. He's scared and terrified, hiding behind a facade but he doesn't let his flaws define him. ML comes in stoic and cold, but he becomes so comfortable around MC his icy nature melts into warmth and love. They both go through character growth and keep each other grounded. They are the kind of people I'd respect so much if they come of out the novel.

My favourite part of the ending is how
Spoiler

They never had any children, neither from birth nor adoption. The author really proved that continuing a family linege doesn't come from giving birth, and reinforced the fact that the ML is NOT a reproduction machine just because he's an omega. It's also repeatedly mentioned in the extras that MC loves ML for who he is, unlike his brother who've only got eyes on him after getting a harem to give birth. It's so refreshing to see an omegaverse where both the main characters are happy without children, and honestly as someone who gets pressured to have children every New Years dinner, good for them! Some comments irked me when they mentioned how it's a shame they didn't have children, but let me repeat that people should not be judged nor shamed for not having children. The author's choice really reflected on how unconventional and strong the main characters are, pushing against social norms and I wish more asian novels can learn from this.

[collapse]

I respect the author so much and wish someone can compile a list of quotes because they are so motivational. This novel climbed up to being one of my favourites so fast and I'd reccomend people to read it just for a more unconventional type of MC. <<less

This story is an amazing example of a mature, sweet, communicative romance without it being boring asf!!

The author does an amazing job of exploring complicated and painful topics such as disabilities, domestic violence (not towards or between the current MC and ML), s*xual ab*se (via the alpha-omegaverse relationships), as well as the hardships faced from things that you can't control, such as gender, all while giving us action, romance, fun, and life long lessons.

Pros: ... more>>
Spoiler

+ The characters are so nuanced, so amazing, and so loving, particularly the main characters. There were many times when I worried that the characters would do something s*upid (like scold each other for something the other couldn't help), but it never happened. The MC and the ML communicate and talk to each other, all without being boring! Even the villains have some nuance to them! There are facets to everyone and I loved how this story explored that, particularly amongst the MC and ML.

+ The themes explored in this story were extremely mature and well thought out. It's clear that the author put a lot of effort into this.

+ The way Bai Ying is handled is amazing. I love how she is still given both sympathy and anger, bc although she was ab*sed, it doesn't take away from the fact that she left behind her son and father. Her suffering is understandable, but so is the suffering that the ML had to endure bc she couldn't take a stand. The way this was handled was absolutely PERFECT, especially as a person who also has a complicated relationship with my own family. It was beautifully poetic how she got her revenge and was able to finally get away from her abusive relationship.

+ Both MC and ML are beautifully written, strong, and amazing characters. The MC is a cold, but still caring person who is straightforward, brave, and knows what he wants. The ML is shameless, clever, optimistic, and extremely kind, but he is also sensitive and sentimental, with a weak heart to love and care. The both of them are each other's strength and reason. They pair together so well and their relationship is the best I've ever seen: communicative, loving, very fun, indulgent, and sweet, while also being each other's reality checks and common sense. They will help each other and indulge the other, but if they do something wrong, neither of them are afraid to tell the other and snap them out of it. (A prime example is near the ending, when the ML convinces the MC not to throw away his career for him, even as the MC insists. It was so touching and realistic that I lowkey teared up a little.)

+ The themes of this story were well-thought and even I, a veteran reader who is lowkey numb to a lot of things, had to do laps around my house and stare at the ceiling in thought. In this story, I laughed and teared up and cheered. The emotions were extremely poignant and the translation did an amazing job of demonstrating how poetic this story was.

+ The themes stay consistent throughout this story and I adore it. While this isn't a fresh take on the omegaverse (omegas deserve rights and should have jobs and not be housewives, etc, etc), it was still refreshing to see and enjoy. The story never falters on what is right or wrong and it feels soothing to read.

Cons: (nitpicky)
Spoiler

- Ngl, the author sacrificed some plot for amazing characters and relationships and a simple, yet effective story theme. I wish they could've explored more into the OG plot of the book, how fate affects them all, who tf the First Prince is, as well as more conflict. Also, I wish they would've went a little more into the event that disabled the ML, bc although it's mentioned a lot, the finale of which it's revealed to us, the audience, was kind of lackluster.

+ I also wish we could've had more extras to explore this. Maybe even one about the OG protagonist's omega harem? Bc he only had 2 in this one, and while 1 was in jail (and forgotten), the other lowkey had a bit of an open ending.

However, I want to emphasize that this does NOT deter from the story!! I highly recommend it, still!!!

[collapse]

All in all, this story was an absolute banger. It teaches great themes, doesn't shy away from mature topics, but still makes it fun and excitable. You can't help but love the ML and MC and both have their flaws, but are so perfect together that it just endears you to them.

Highly recommend! <<less

A++

The reason why I put this in A++ score tier because it has the potential to be S-tier for me, but due to some parts in the story, I can't rate it higher than A but it's worth more than just A.

The reason? The story is really really good.

The story is about our main protagonist Bai Li, the alpha who is crippled due to the unfortunate circumstances happened in the past (later we learned he is crippled after saving his assistant's life in an accident that's part of the butterfly... more>> effect). What the summary didn't mention is that he's a transmigrator.

Bai Li is the usual canon fodder villain in a novel that he transmigrated with, but instead of taking over the body when he is "older", as often the case with transmigration story, it's implied that he takes over the body at a young age. This also makes his story much more compelling than other transmigrator, who transmigrate during the critical part in their life. He built that sense of belonging in the world where he transmigrated, and yet in a way, he's detached from it due to knowing it's a novel world.

That's until he met the other protagonist, Lu Zhao, the omega general who earned his title with his hard work and charisma. Bai Li, who was detached to the world he is living in and thinking that he can't escape the destiny of being cannon fodder, realize that the world is not just a novel world, and the people living inside that world are all living human beings.

The story is really good. The narrative is told between several characters, but most likely from the perspective of Bai Li and then Lu Zhao in some cases. Their story not only about love, but respect, trust, loyalty, and acceptance. Lu Zhao loves Bai Li with everything he had, his disability and his identity being transmigrator, and to Bai Li, Lu Zhao is his reason to fight his destiny and take the life that belongs to him.

It's one of the best transmigration novel that I've ever read. I shed so many tears when reading the novel, and I never regret the time I spent reading it. It's an amazing experience.

What makes me unable to give it S-tier is due to the story part near the ending, where the mecha was heavily featured. I know the story is interstellar, but I feel like the war part is dragging far too long. I would rather we spend it to tell story about Bai Li's legacy that he passed down through his mecha, rather than seeing him going into war. His legacy was told in a very rushed way towards the end. While we all know by that point that Lu Zhao can't get pregnant and the Bai family will end with Bai Li, I feel like we are robbed of their sweet day-to-day moment for the sake of making Bai Li looks even more heroic by piloting his mecha even when he is still crippled.

It was unfortunate in that regards, but to me, the other parts of the story I really love and it's just not fair to give it a simple A-tier. <<less

I love them.

If you like stories were they have problems but they're willing to work on them and help each other, then this is a to go immediately.

Bai Ying is my fav character tho, I wish we had a little more for her. But she still had a good ending.

Came because of the lighearted summary, didn't expect to find a gem.

I thought it will be a cute slice of life romance story of shameless alpha and cold strong omega, oh I was wrong. Don't let the summary fool you.

The characters are well written (Bai Li I love you sm), the couple's relationship is so green and mature. They grow and healed each other with their own way. Also, they COMMUNICATE when they have problems. Even the side character have their own spotlight.

But there's one thing that feels regretful.

The story is superb!!!

These past few years, I haven't been able to finish danmei novels because of the overused plots (interstellar, omegaverse, ancient times, transmigration... etc) but then I accidentally discovered this masterpiece and am really glad I read it.

Aside from the great translation (kudos to the translator! Really appreciate your effort), the story is top-notch.

... more>> From the flow, characters, progress, plot... Everything is good.

You can really feel that MC and ML, even the side characters, have their own depth, story, emotions, and convictions. First off, the author didn't just create the side characters just for show; the author gave each person in the book a reason why they're there. They're not just a filler.

Regarding the MC and ML? Chief Kiss! The way they were written, from start to finish, is remarkable. Love how they both grow with each other and accept one another despite their different upbringings. The ML is funny, sarcastic, and fierce but also broken, alone, and tired of how the world was treating him. The MC is resolute, direct to the point, and nonchalant but also sweet, understanding, and protective of his people.

Both know the importance of going forward; both have a goal that they both want to achieve regardless of what others tell them.

Both are people you can relate to. :)

PS. I cried a lot while reading this masterpiece! Really well-deserved of recognition. <<less
