Xia Feng, an ordinary young man from Earth, is transported to a world of swords and magic, where he inhabits the body of Lucien Evans, another ordinary young man.

Whilst this new realm appears to be a traditional Western fantasy world, he discovers striking similarities between Earth and this mysterious place—particularly in how science parallels arcane magic.

As the saying goes, “Knowledge is power,” but what deeper truths lie within? Through his exploration of souls, magic, quantum mechanics, the Theory of Relativity, consciousness, music, and reality itself, Lucien seeks to uncover the true nature of this enigmatic world.

The world building of this novel is the best out of all Chinese novels I read. After reading RTW when I was craving for more Science in novels, I found this and it didn't disappoint me.

It was never boring - Music in the first volume, Escaping in the second volume and Arcana in the third volume - all were interesting.

The character design was not as good as that of RTW as of now. But given enough time all the characters have enough space to grow into something big.

The only worry... more>> I have is the translation speed. I have read many comments saying that update stability is a problem for this novel. I definitely recommend everyone who liked RTW to give it a read and the ones who haven't read RTW can read that one after reading Throne of Magical Arcana <<less

This is probably the most well written Chinese webnovel I have ever read.

Characters actually have personality and character development, something that is very rare in this genre.

Another great thing is beautiful combination of REAL science and magic. With math, physics, chemistry, writing research papers, etc. Required to be powerful mage.

The Spiritual Library "cheat" MC gains at the start equals to just having bag with a lot science books from Earth. It literary works like photographic memory, but just for books. This means that MC still has to work his ass... more>> off to be able to understand and use this knowledge.

The main reason this doesn't have batter rating is because of very weak start (especially first 30ch), and unexpected focus of first volume (135ch) on music.

EDIT: Holy sh*t! This has LITERALLY mind-blowing scientific research.

Spoiler

MC is making heads of powerful figures from both sides literally explode, just by publishing his research papers! XD

This novel was very good, it reminded me of Release that Witch and Lord of the Mysteries, which is a novel by the same author. The reason it isn't a 5 star novel for me is that around chapter 650 it just gets very very boring. The main character doesn't progress, there isn't any of the creative spell crafting that he did in the beginning of the novel, all that's happening is people lying around waiting for stuff to happen. I skimmed through a couple of these chapters and basically... more>> didn't miss anything that's how unimportant they were. This author also had this very boring mid-late section in Lord of the Mysteries as well, I think this section is his weakness as a writer. I'm not being nitpicky, it's just so obvious, not even the really mediocre cultivation novels I read do this. <<less

It's been a while since I read LotM so it's a bit hard to say if that was better, but compared to other stories I've read more recently (Dorothy's Forbidden Grimoire, Miss Witch's Speedrun Manual) it falls far behind in the combat and scheming.

Although the start of the story focuses a lot of music which makes it interesting, the bulk of the story focuses more on science, physics specifically, which later on turns into Quantum Mechanics. As an enjoying of sci-fi and someone who took a course in the subject,... more>> I really enjoyed this quirk of world building where progress in science translates into personal power growth, and much of the story is actually about uplifting.

I think to a large degree you actually need to have understood QM to enjoy this story at its best, since the MC makes a somewhat wrong statement about QM that you have to be well versed in the subject to catch. This comes into play in the ending and for me makes it satisfying and turns a 4* story into a 5* story, but for other readers it comes off more as an ass pull.

Which is one of the main issues I have with this story. With the other stories I've mentioned as comparison, this one stands out for ass pulls (though half of them are foreshadowed).

Situation gets worse, then MC reveals he's expected this all along and has a backup plan. But oh no, while his opponent is caught off guard, enemy #2 has been lurking around like the oriole, and chooses now to pounce! But it's okay because it's been foreshadowed that ally #1 has been waiting for enemy #2 all along so they show up at this minute to save the day!

I swear, stuff like this happens in half the fights to the point where it's boring and I want the story to go back to science p*rn.

I much prefer Dorothy who schemes her best even if she's super lucky in the degree to which her plans tend to work out, or Miss Witch who carefully ab*ses her simulations to perfect her schemes until she's got the kinks worked out.

But overall, it was a great read, and hey, the final arc was better than Lord of the Mystery's. <<less

4.8 out of 5 !!!

Awesome world and magic. The MC is smart and interesting. I liked the world building and magic research parts of the novel. A little slow at times but overall was good.

Spoiler

I just hope this author never writes a romance again though lol. It's not terrible but it needed a lot of work.

Same author as LOTM so you know you have good writing.

Story about a ranked magical society where MC learns magic and grows from street slum to powerful mage. Heavy focus on the story is the science-magic relation and MC brings a lot of knowledge from Earth (Quantum Mechanics, Theory of relativity, Wave-Particle Duality, etc, .).

A great story with awesome world building, parallel dimensions, navigating different levels of society and dealing with things like illiteracy and poverty. Relations are meaningful and rewarding. Writing is well done and immersive. Romance is a... more>> sub plot, hence not a focus, but carried and executed very well. Even anti-romance readers will like it or at least not mind it. <<less

After finishing the novel, I immediately came here to write a review. It’s my first one so please go easy on me.

Initially, I started reading TMA because I read LOTM and it was by the same author. The novel also had a decent rating among his works, so I gave it a shot.

All I can say was that it was pretty good. Definitely not the best I’ve read, but absolutely far from the worst I’ve read. It’s up there in terms of the tier I put the novel into.

Spoiler

For LOTM readers, you can basically think of it as a novel where Klein had Roselle’s golden finger (memories/information from the modern world) in a world where magic is science.

[collapse]

Now for the actual review.

There weren’t many things I didn’t like about the novel, they were more like small things that were either confusing, didn’t make sense, or I just didn’t like.

Cons:

Plot: It’s good, but it definitely wasn’t perfect.

Spoiler

I feel like there were a plot holes in the middle to later half of the novel. When MC and FL were being chased through the alternate world by a legendary sorcerer, they definitely should have died. It doesn’t have logical sense even if the legendary was underestimating them that they survived as a senior sorcerer and radiant knight. Maybe for the first time they duped the legendary, but after that the legendary should have widened up and dealt with them quickly. Like the MC pointed out later in the novel, Legendaries aren’t s*upid.

[collapse]

Other than situations like that, there are other problems I have with the plot.

Spoiler

Sometimes I feel like the conflict is being forced. Ex. When MC is in the Realm of Gates and being chased by God’s Eye (or something), he was about to be killed and his item reacted and made God’s Eye realize his true identity that was buried under brainwashing (basically). Why was the item only activated when the MC was about to die? If it was activated based on God’s Eyes proximity with the MC, it should have activated when they met. If not, then what factor caused the item to react late? This was never explored or explained. Either way, I think that if the item is supposed to react, it should’ve reacted at the very start of their meeting instead of after they’ve had an intense battle. Otherwise, especially since there’s no explanation, it just feel like a way to put the MC in a dangerous but meaningless and avoidable situation.

[collapse]

The FL:

Spoiler

I’m not one to dislike a novel just because it has romance in it. And the romance in TMA isn’t bad, but that’s the problem (?) I have with it. In the first half of the novel, the FL was very strong and a great character. The relationship between the two makes sense and her character was 3D. However, in the latter half of the novel, I feel like she... grayed out? Like, she used to be a character that was fun and full of colors, but she just started washing out. I’m okay with the fact that her role (main tank/damage dealer/frontline) changed (tank, sub damage dealer, more backline) as the MC became more and more strong and surpassed her. This is a logical adjustment now that the MC is stronger than her. However, it’s the rest of it that I don’t like. Outside of combat, I feel like the FL turned into a ‘why’ machine. She basically became a tool for the author to use to explain the MC’s actions and the mechanisms behind stuff and nothing more. It’s the comparison between the fist half FL and the second half FL that I find tragic.

[collapse]

All in all, I’m just being picky about minor details. As you can see from my rating, I still enjoyed the novel a lot and found it a good read. Basically, aside from those kinds of instances I pointed out, everything was good. It was faster to talk about the little bad stuff than to talk about all the good stuff. <<less

I'm giving it a 4, but like a very strong 4. There are portions that outshine 5 star stories. The ideas behind the magic system are super unique, and pretty interesting. I doubt there is another story that does a better job of combining science and magic. The world is fun and the intrigue is up there with the best of them.

The weakness is that it can be a little dry at times. It also tends to move from event to event, missing some of the details that ground other... more>> stories. Explanations of events can sometimes go from incredibly detailed to very vague, often within the same chapter.

I love that you can see a lot of the ideas in this that eventually became part of Lord of the Mysteries. I would recommend reading it, especially for Cuttlefish fans. <<less

It was pretty good up to a point. Then the MC just starts doing stuff for no reason.
Spoiler

Not gonna go into too much detail but he actually gets some people who were basically neutral to him killed, and got some very influential characters vow to kill him one day. He made a lot of hugely powerful enemies for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

Throne of Magical Arcana is an Isekai, where Lucien is thrown into a world of Arcane Sorcery & Religious Zealotry. From beginning to end we get to see quite a few of the ideas, the author had, that were later fleshed out in his future novels (LOTM). With Lucien starting from the absolute bottom of society, does indeed make following his rise as a musician and the arduous journey into the circles of sorcery worth it in the end. Where it has spellbinding & thought-provoking fights, between intelligent individuals, who... more>> rarely try to just brute force their way into victory.

But magical battles barely make up a quarter of the story. As apart from classical music, one most have an appreciation of the "Scientific Method" that increasingly has a more important role when peering into common magic principles. This also means the latter half of the story unfortunately focuses more on theoretical scientific papers & arguments and less on the practical applications. Because only when the focus shifts to the practical applications do we get to experience some awe-inspiring spell battles and a technological revolution that scratches my Kingdom Building itch. And though rather anti-climatic, the ending does seem fairly appropriate, by providing a scientific explanation on the nature of the MC's reincarnation. Followed by an extended Epilogue. <<less

Underwhelming. I usually look forward to when the protagonist is out adventuring, but that's not the case for this novel. It's so weird that I actually looked forward more for when he's just researching and the fiasco around his "discoveries". The application of science to magic wasn't that creative either. And the romance is... average at best. I think this story is highly recommendable to those who are just stepping into the science fantasy genre, but if you're like me who's read a number of them and also the author's... more>> later works, this will seem like a half-decent appetizer. If you are looking for better read of a similar backdrop but without romance, I suggest Mage Adam. <<less

I just finished reading it and I hope this review helps you decide whether to give the book a chance or not :P

-

Story ★★★★★ - In terms of World-Building it's very good, but where the story shines is in the magic system, which by far IS THE BEST I've ever read in any LN, the author's creativity to combine IRL knowledge with Magic and how the world " answer" is fantastic.

Character ★★★★★ - The characters are very charismatic, and very good to follow, the romance goes on, and the character development happens, which is very rewarding to read.

Spoilers ahead, I recommend it only for those who read it, because it might spoil the surprise XD.

Spoiler

- I thought Lucien would change s*x, just to get Natasha, Thank God he stayed firm XD, when it was about to happen the first time, I was seriously thinking about dropping the work if he used the belt just for that, because in my opinion it would be a lot of lack of self-love if he accepted such a situation.

[collapse]

-

Enjoyment ★★★★★ - There were several moments of enjoyment in WN, especially when it comes to Music, I was even a little upset that the author left it a little aside, but when it was used, it was too beautiful. When it comes to magic itself, you would go crazy when people advanced in this regard, and especially the interactions with the Congress people, in short, this work could have 1k of chapters very easily, but it ended in a good moment, it has some Side Story's, the first one is weak, but the second one is very pleasant to read.

Religion:

Spoiler

- The Religious footprint in the WN was well done, practically a Catholic + Protestant Church and later an Anglican Church, the base that the author used was very pleasant, of course it is an exaggerated view of religion, but it was in a good footprint, since that the work is very Scientist, the author is forced to give an "extreme" tone to religion, for you to see Sorcerers as "nice", until you read what Sorcerers did at the time of the Empire, and then you think: " There's no way to defend, the guys dug their own grave".

[collapse]

-

General ★★★★★ - For those who already read Lord of the Mysteries which is by the same author, this WN is before LOTM, but in my opinion it has a quality as good as LOTM, LOTM goes in the more "Mystical" way, while Throne of Magical Arcana goes in a more "scientific" way, and it is evident how well the author manages to work both themes and fit well in his WN, I recommend reading it to you, it was time well spent.

Very good. As said before, the author is the best there is on this site and his works are all fantastic. The sciency part of this novel is pretty intricate and the characters are all well made. I wish he would go into a bit more detail on some parts of the world as the world building could've been more deeply explored. Ending was decent too

Good.

It was pretty good. It's like your basic Isekai novel with a touch of Classical &modern physics 101, with a little bit of music. It might be boring for some action lovers. My favorite part is when he unraveled the spacetime abnormalities in the planet. It's just that good.

This is pretty good, so long as you are rather interested in classical music and physics / math. It's definitely the weakest by this author that I've read so far, but that still puts it above the majority of novels. My ranking: EaI > LoTM > MAM >> this, but those three are some of my favorite novels.

There's some magic, fights, and romance, but honestly it overall feels like a dramatization of the history of physics with magic thrown in to make it interesting. Experiments that disprove someone's worldview can... more>> literally make their head explode, and there is at least one chapter-long argument about non-Euclidean geometry. I enjoy math and physics so I found it fun, but that's pretty much a requirement in order to make it to the end of the novel. Nothing jumped out at me as particularly wrong except for magic stuff either, which is rare when authors try to use real science.

The beginning has a lot of classical music stuff, so you can either learn it or skip and replace with "wow music, everyone is impressed" and move on. There's too much math / physics for that strategy to work for those parts though (unless you skip like 1/4 the novel), which is why I say it's required to like them.

Overall I'd say it's definitely not for everyone, but it is interesting if you like that kind of thing. I enjoyed it enough to binge 823 chapters, but I'd recommend his other stuff over it any day. They're all very different though; the best is to read them all! <<less

This novel is not bad, but the magic system feels very detached from the storyline -- which makes it feel like it's not important. I think that may improve as the story goes along, but I lost my interest pretty early. Maybe it's because the MC is a bit. Hm *thinkingface* I don't think he's unlikeable, I just don't feel like his story is particularly engaging. AHHHHH I dunno, it might be a mood thing. I'll have to come back and reread one day to check if my initial impression... more>> is based on the novel or not. DX I'm pretty distracted rn, so the reason why my interest waned so quickly is because of this. Anyway, for the time being, I'm leaving this unrated. But for the sake of the future me...

Summary: The novel seems like your typical transmigration story at first glance. The MC has none of the original owner's memories, but since the original owner was close to other people, he ended up understanding the world pretty quickly. The only issue is that he also got involved in a pretty sticky situation. More specifically, a witch apprentice was living in the shack next to his own, and because of this, he was put under investigation. On the day that the witch was burned at a stake, he also discovered an anomaly and was forced to confront the world of sorcery without any preparation. This led him to believe that, if he wanted to live in this world, and live in it well, he needed to seek out power for himself. <<less

Very well written. Zero to hero, and each step makes sense without any cheap plot devices. Great ending. Extras for closure :) Complete magic system. The characters are very fleshed out, even the side characters. There is mystery. There are answers. No plot holes. This is a rare web novel that does everything right and is absolutely worth a read if you like reincarnation stories with magic elements.

This novel... is hard to rate.

I enjoyed it a lot for what it was: a novel with complex characters, detailed world building, one of the best romances that a CN novel could offer, and plenty of imagination. However, it's very easy to get lost in all the arcana BS that's spewed out for probably half the book. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the whole concept and use of arcana, I would just skim over the lengthy explanations of "pseudoscience" when the MC was lecturing. I feel like the author... more>> deliberately made it as confusing as possible, especially at the end in the ultimate arcana explanation. Would have liked to see more of the MC at the end, and the side story about the kids was also quite abrupt. <<less

It's a decent read. Sometimes too slow-paced, sometimes lacking in logic but TL team did an amazing job imho. I would prefer a more aggressive MC since the one we have is kinda underpowered all the time. He is basically just enough to finish what he started and he mostly reacts to things happenening instead of doing something himself. I would actually say that the generic cliche world around him is better described and more fun to read about than the MC's actions. Out of the ocean of garbage novels... more>> this one stands out but it lacks quite a lot to truly be rated 5 stars. <<less
