Holographic viewing technology allowed audience members to enter a movie and personally experience it for themselves. Naturally, romance movies were the most popular and well-received, while nobody was interested in horror movies.

Su Min was the first of the viewers to experience a horror movie.

Later–

Malicious Spirit: I dare not scare nor frighten my sweetheart…

Su Min: Actually, horror movies aren’t scary at all.

Audience: No, no, no, you are playing in a romance movie! (Loudly)

The audience suddenly discovered that the recent rerelease of the horror movie was much better than the original. Furthermore, to everyone’s surprise, the ghost was very sweet…

this was a novel with a lot of promise in my opinion. transmigration is one of my favourite genres out there so i've read quite a lot of transmigration bl novels. & in terms of originality, this novel's premise is one I haven't read before. the idea of going inside movies and being able to change them etc is actually quite cool and I liked that the protagonist doesn't have to go into another person's body and retains his own name and personalities too.

talking about the characters, I liked the... more>> MC su min and I liked reading from his pov. yeah he's kinda op but I read transmigration stories knowing that more often than not, the MC will always win and sort things out fairly quickly. I expect that to happen and I like it so that aspect of the story of su min always winning didn't make me dislike it.

the arcs... eh. the first few arcs were nice and kept me on the edge of my seat. I liked that the secondary characters were kinda developed and got to have their moments to shine. the comedy was apt and I actually laughed out loud at certain points. however, as we read on, a lot of the arcs started feeling redundant, like they were dragging. I can't remember it much anymore but there was a certain arc that seemed to go on and on and on and it took all I had not to skim read it to get it over and done with. & it also seemed as if the arcs went from horror to mystery & thriller. I don't know, for a novel that advertises itself as being a horror book I expected more horror.

but the main point I wanna talk about is actually the ML, cheng su. I liked cheng su the most as a character and I was eagerly waiting for his backstory to be unravelled. more than su min, I wanted to know more about cheng su and what his deal was. to me, cheng su didn't really have much of an impact on the story.. I know a lot of reviewers said that he solved all of su min's problems but I don't really think so. he helped at certain points sure but most of his role was really just to...

    • grope su min
    • bite su min's ear
    • bite su min somewhere else
    • grope
    • bite...
    • whisper in su min's ear
    • hug su min
    • grope some more
    • did I mention bite?
cheng su didn't appear as often as I wanted him to in the story and when he did all he really did was the above lol. we learned some little trivia and clues about him some times but that was about it. & then the arc I was waiting for, cheng su's arc finally came and... yeah. severely disappointed. it's as if the author got bored and just quickly wrote whatever to explain cheng su's past.

even with cheng su's arc I am still very much confused on what he actually is..

Spoiler

is he a ghost? is he a full human? is he a half human / half ghost? how did he get to that shack? who locked him there? what did the author mean by experiment? who was experimenting on him and for what?

[collapse]

his arc left more questions than answers and yeah.. for something i'd been waiting on, it was very disappointing.

this novel had a lot of promise and I'm sure it would have delivered on that promise but it seemed as if the author got bored of their own story unfortunately.

so yeah, it's not a bad read. the arcs were either really good or they dragged. the characters were the strongest point of the book for me & of course the cute ghosts lol. <<less

The premise is super interesting, the horror elements were satisfyingly vivid, but the world building of the novel was really disappointing. I enjoyed reading most of the mystery, horror, and romance, but when I came to the ending many loose ends were not tied off.

Spoiler

It is revealed that the virtual reality experience is based off Chen Su's brain, or something similar to that, but then following this revelation... nothing happens. How did that happen? How has that affected Chen Su, and why was a project like this chosen with Chen Su as the subject? Nothing is clarified. Also, it is revealed that Su Min CAN see actual ghosts, when he was younger. So all of a sudden the supernatural element that was clearly bounded to virtual reality, now exists in their modern real-time world. The novel does not further explain this either, except to set up a sudden real-world horror scenario.

[collapse]

The ending really was too unsatisfactory, and not because I miss reading the lovely interactions between the ML and MC, but because there were so many things that the novel failed to address. <<less

This was... something.

... more>> There were things I did like and things I didn't. The first three arcs were boring, but after that (in the Shocking Orphanage and onward) it became better. There were scenes that were tedious to read especially in the first three arcs, so I hesitated at the time whether or not should I continue this...

Well, the rest of the arcs were actually decent--pretty good in some parts. In the overarching story, the male lead's identity is only revealed in the very last arc with only a few hints in the 4th arc. Yes. Lots of blue-balling is in play, but distracting me from that were the plots of the movies.

I... honestly wouldn't recommend this. I would rather push readers who wants a similar experience to I Rely on Kisses to Clear Survival Games from the same wonderful translator, KK Translates! It's pretty similar, but it feels like it has more stakes, unlike this one in which case if ever Su Min will ever fail, he can just boot himself off.

Yes, I did enjoy it later on, but ehhh, unless you reaaaally wanna read this, don't. Though if you will, good luck with the first three arcs. It's a bit rough, but contextually it kinda makes sense, I suppose. The fourth arc and upwards are a bit better.

There are lots of plotholes here too. Just try to turn your brain off, but there were things I was definitely bothered by, particularly the circumstances behind our male lead. The ending was also quite lackluster. I wish there were more scenes with them... well (minor spoilers: irl)

Well, this is my punishment for wanting another I Rely on Kisses. f*ck. That was cute. <<less

WARNING: Do not read this book in the dark!!

I used to think that reading horror stories wouldn't affect me or even scare me, but after reading this novel I might, no definetly have to reconsider that. The horror element of the story was clearly visible throughout the arcs, each arc being scarier than the previous one.

Spoiler

I didn't find the orphanage one was that scary but then again it was scary, nvm it was scary.

[collapse]

I honestly a, in love with the MC and ML, their interactions were so cute. I found it really cute when the ghosts or skeletons would instead attempt to hug the MC or help the MC out whenever he needed help. I also found the ML's actions when he was jealous to be very cute.

Also the backstory of the MC and the ML was very sweet and touching.

Overall, a definite five star.

I binged read it cause this was so good I couldn't stop reading. I used to think that I was able to read/watch horror but after this, I might have to rethink that. There were many things I thought were really good about this story.

MC- I found the MC really likable and loved how he was able to figure out everything that was going on in the movies. (Although he did have help from the ML a little) He's blunt but not apathetic and uses logic and skill to pass.... more>> It was nice to see his quirks like being able to pick a lock all the time or remember things clearly.

ML- although he was mysterious, the scenes he had with the MC were adorable. I'd be reading in the middle of the night begging the ML would come and relieve me of my fears so instead of reading the MC walking in the empty corridor, he'd be with the ML 'talking'.
Spoiler

(*cough arc 4 cough*)

[collapse]

SETTINGS- I found that the story building in each movie and reality was good. I was able to create the whole image in my head based of the details and nothing felt confusing or wrong. I loved the interactions in the movie theaters with the employees. But I do wish there were more chapters in reality though. It would have been great to read his about the MC and his fans who watched the movies. Or about his life with the ML after.

Spoiler

Well really I already said everything but I just want to mention the scariest part for me had to be arc 4 with the orphans. Hands down scariest parts. Maybe it's just me but kids in horror movies are just freaking terrifying. I was reading in the night and stopped cause I felt a little creeped out. Even though it was the most scariest, it was my favorite ending to all the movies. I really wanted the MC to just take ming ming away and show him the happy things even though he was the one who cause everything. It was heartwarming when the MC talked to ming ming and ming ming just up and was like ' ahh I don't wanna kill you anymore. Bye bye. And ran away.

[collapse]

Another thing though is that I wished they would explain the endings more in the movies. Or show us what happened at the end after he left the movies.
Spoiler

or in arc 6 with the people on the boat. How did they switch skins or somethin' and how did they find how too?

[collapse]

I really liked the character in the movies too. If only they could be friends with the MC in real life too. Other than that, this book is good to read. <<less

I tried to get through it, but I didn’t like it...

The good things were:

  • MC is a calm/collected guy,
  • MC is a logically fast-thinker,
  • There are small hints about a backstory between MC and ML,
  • The novel has a decent concept,
  • The arcs had good concepts,
  • The MC is “filmed” as a cannon-fodder in the new “movies”,
  • Interesting horror parts,
  • Kudos to the translators,
The bad things were:

  • Every “movie” ends abruptly,
  • The “movies” are so messy that you literally have no idea what’s going on even after the (also messy) explanation,
  • Somehow, people concentrate on the MC and ML despite them barely reacting,
  • MC is way too familiar with the ML after the first meeting,
  • I wanted to know what the romance-turned-horror movie was about...
  • ML repeatedly takes the role of a ghost, and it gets boring. A masked man would be nice,
  • Basically every other character is 2D.
So, yeah, it’s not the worst but also not good. If it gets better, please tell me, but, if even the arcs are messy, I don’t have much hope for the actual story...

I didn’t feel any suspense. The 3D technology didn’t make sense, the horror parts been to much (and boring) and the title indicates a completely other genre (romance with horror part and not a horror with bit romance). If you want me to put some interest in anyone’s death... might first get to know the characters (isn’t there..). So dropping it here.

As of c145—

It’s quite scary when you’re into the story but when you think back you’ll realise it actually wasn’t that scary.

Probably because it’s from the view of a supposed-to-be-cannon-fodder ... more>>
Spoiler

and ghosts are somehow fond of him and theres always Chen Su to protect him at critical times

[collapse]

I’m a pus sy so I don’t know much about horror, but I think each movie has a good plot. The university one specifically, is very scary and stimulating. They get less and less scary each movie, but more gruesome, particularly in the food aspect.

Theres also Chen Su, the great force that stimulates my curiosity very much, and my drive to read on despite being such a pus sy. Although I’ve sadly been spoiled on his identity, but its still a wonder how Su Min finds out and their past relation to each other.

Spoiler

I am specially curious about the happenings in that romance hospital movie

[collapse]

It’s also pretty educating. Like,

  • don’t easily trust who’s beyond the door
  • don’t casually answer to calls
  • don’t be a third-wheel (it often leads to something horrific)
  • flour can explode (idk why my prof didn’t teach that, its such a necessity)
  • lastly, even if I said it’s not that scary, don’t read this at night
Although there are some parts that seemed like it was randomly/forcefully interjected which made it seem kind of jumpy and breaks the flow (?), but overall, it’s still quite well written.

Props to translator. <<less

This novel was a bit bland. There weren't many things that I found super offensive but there also weren't that many good points. I suppose I liked the interactions between ML and MC but further on those too became a bit repetitive and boring, and they also had a hint of the basic chinese flavour of "refusing shou" plus "not taking the refusal seriously gong". It was okay to read but the nonexistent world building and the paper-thin characters made this novel rather dull.

World

Like mentioned, world building was nonexistent. I... more>> assume the world is the same as ours, plus the AI-VR movie technology that was the basis for this novel. The technology was not explained in any way. I didn't mind that at first, but then it was revealed that
Spoiler

it was actually really relevant to the ML's backstory!

[collapse]
The whole thing was just glossed over in two sentences and I found that baffling.

The horror was not scary. The movie plots were sometimes interesting but not anything new and often predictable. Okay to read and a fine time waster but nothing fantastic. The progress of the MC slowly unraveling the stories was sometimes entertaining and there weren't that many holes in his conjectures.

Characters

Very boring and made of rice paper. The MC was the most fleshed out but he has about no emotional fluctuations at all, except getting annoyed over the ML perving over him during movies that are going to be shown to others later. The most interesting point about him was that benevolent ghosts seemed to like him. Wasn't explained why.

In short, the ML had two functions: keep MC safe and sweetly perv on the MC. His backstory
Spoiler

after meeting the ML as a child and before they met again

[collapse]
But he is also supposed to not be that much older than the MC so I don't know how he had time for the latter part...

All in all the novel could've been good if the author had actually spent any time thinking about the world or the character backstories. Or at least the main character ones; alone as well and not only when they were together. Now it's just a fluff novel with no substance. But if you're in the mood to read horror that isn't actually scary with a side of sugar between a ghost and a human and don't mind the gaping holes in the story (not a pun, this novel doesn't go that far), you can give this one a try, I guess. <<less

Overall, I enjoyed the novel. The couple was cute and I love how bold Chen Su is. I would recommend this to others.

However, the end was the thing that lowered the overall rating. It ended too quickly and left so many plot hole! The extras were a did pointless but still cute. It seemed rushed.

Again, I did enjoy the novel a lot. The end just was a bit weird for me.

hehe I really liked Chen Su.

This novel has a lot of plot holes. I like to give novels a chance but I have decided to drop this one for a few reasons:

- a fundamental lack of logic in the concept.

The idea is that movies are acted out by actors etc, but viewers can watch the movie, take a role, and ultimately change/improve the plot. This isn't a world with futuristic technology. This is a modern world, but there happens to be advanced technology to allow viewers to experience the movie. This on its own would... more>> be fine, but there is no logic as to how the viewer can interact and change the pre-recorded plot with characters that are acted out according to a script by real, live people. If the movie was acted out by ai, or it was in a futuristic setting, or the viewer had multiple choice options, the logic would be acceptable.

- Dry story telling

There are too many words that don't have much meaning to them.

- contradictions

The MC is scared at times, as you would expect in a horror movie, but the author also explicitly states in the novel that the MC is not scared due to his upbringing or personality - please make up your mind.

Spoiler

In the second arc, the MC willingly enters the horror movie, and then immediately asks for a way to leave the island. I don't understand thisnlogic. He has paid to be there to experience the horror movie, but then asks to leave.

[collapse]

- lack of chemistry between MC and ml

I love fast paced romance. I actively look for early romance tags and will forgive the lack of logic that can arise from that setting, but the ML just doesn't appear enough. When the re-released movies are seen by the audience, they always talk about how much sugar there is, but there really isn't. I want to see what they are seeing.

- No horror

I get scared easily but I don't find the horror suspenseful at all. It's very generic, and I am never left on the edge of my seat.

Spoiler

It doesn't help that arc 2 initially is supposed to end with all characters dying, but all of them survive without so much as a bruise or scratch.

Arc 1 is similar. The only characters that die or end up wounded are those that are mentioned in passing so we have no feelings for them. The way they die isn't described particularly graphically or with much gore either.

[collapse]

There are a lot of other complaints I have, such as the MC being supposedly smart but it doesn't come across like that all.

Also the plotholes in the second arc for example.

Spoiler

What is the point of the toads? There seems to be no reason to not tell us this.

[collapse]

I would be here for a while to put down all of my complaints.

The only point that made me want to continue reading is to understand the mls identity and if there is a back story with the MC. I read a review with a spoiler of this so now I am satisfied and will drop this novel. <<less

I love this novel. It's like Misplacement Game in that there's as much thought put into the settings as the relationships. But this one has a great main character in Su Min, and the way he can use his yin-yang eyes to interact with all types of hidden ghosts is actually very cute.

The resolution is also far more satisfying, although I would have changed the circumstances of the final birthday scene. It's not gory and has a normal amount of suspense, and the protagonist is more interested in solving the... more>> mysteries than is typical. This makes reading very enjoyable.

Chen Su is pretty average, about what you'd expect in character, but he's constantly thinking about how cute Su Min's specific personality and quirks are. It's very sweet and affectionate. The revealed backstory makes this novel have a hit that others don't.

I came back to read it again after finding someone on ao3 use it as a setting for an AU of completely different characters, and had to reread lol. Thanks, person! <<less

For the longest time I've wanted to read this novel but it kept getting pushed back. I finally picked it up a few months ago and I've finally finished. I surprisingly loved it more than I expected I would be. Would like it more if there are more moments of them going to movies together after being official.

The plot was also pretty thrilling. I thought it would focus more on the relationship of the two protagonists, but the author actually built up the Arcs quite well, I got creeped out with some of it. Now I always think someone is secretly peeking or watching me lol. It's quite creepy. The ending of every arcs though became boring afterwards. Maybe... more>> because horror movies usually end with an open ending or everyone dying to give impact at the end, after being rereleased however, it became quite an HE and the ending became ordinary. But the rest or the scenes before the conclusion of every arc was actually good. Usually this kind of plot is predictable, however although this one is quite like it, you will still get confused what will happen next or the flow of the movie. The author was quite good with keeping everything suspenseful and vague till the revelations.

The characters, I love them. Their interactions are cute and funny. MC being a tsundere? And ML being a pe*vert every second possible. I still don't know why ghosts are afraid of him after knowing the truth of who he is. Maybe it's bcs of his mental power or maybe bcs he is the main source? I'm not sure, but I'm quite satisfied.

Overall, I love it. Others may not but this kind of easy plot with horror elements really appeals to me. And the fact that the author never added those unexpected twists or events that sometimes doesn't fit/unreasonable is a plus for me. <<less

the arcs are entertaining enough if you'll disregard all those loopholes.

the ideas the author wants to convey in those movies are captivating as a whole, the ending isn't just done that well. What's the proper term for this, , , um I felt it ended very abruptly. But all in all, the whole novel still deserves praise for its plot about the relationship of the ML and MC. Quite new to me but probably not to others. Not to mention that I was left with unanswered questions that got me... more>> thinking, does the author wants me to remember this my whole life thinking what happened with those loopholes?

anyway, for its genre of horror, it made me indeed unable to look at our ceiling without getting scared or thinking the origin of the food im eating. But the supernatural part about the ML and the whole vr holographic viewing thing, I have no idea how it works. At first, I was confuse and curious but I just threw it in the back of my mind because its no use as it is part of the loophole of the story. <<less

I wouldn’t say it’s ground-breaking and heart-wrenching, but it’s not trying to be. This is a fun novel, and it leaves you with good feelings.

I recommend it for anyone who wants a book to make them happy (as long as you don’t mind a little gore on the side).

The characters are fun, the dynamic is cute, and the ghosts all fancy themselves chefs.

If I was forced to criticise it, I would say that the stories got less scary and a little repetitive by the end (... more>>

I recommend it, it’s a fun twist on your typical unlimited flow where death isn’t hanging over the characters heads the whole time (well... it kind of is... but your not worried for the characters actual life bcs it’s a movie simulation).

1.9 stars is for for the translator who exerted the effort. Thank you for your service to the community.

One of the reviews here phrased it right. These are just a bunch of words and plotholes.

Although the plot is the same as the other unlimited flows, it has quite the potential. I tried to endure since I have nothing else to read, and tried to leave reason and my braincells at the door, but I just cant. It always builds a certain atmosphere, a rising action then it ALWAYS NOSEDIVES... more>> at the end.

Spoiler

I don't get the relevance of the ML in the movies. He was like a stain in the shirt that was there and you don't know where it come from.

I would rather have him as the ultimate horror boss like the Other unlimited flows JUST SO HIS PRESENCE MAKES SENSE. Like come on. The watchers are brianless. How come they didn't question the appearance of that ghost???? It was cute??? Like what?????

[collapse]

And also, like the previous reviewer-san

Spoiler

in the prison arc, the interaction of the two protag is cute and had the potential, but as usual. Nose dive it is. None of the endings satisfied me and gave me the closure. The author likes adding small obscure stuff that will make you think it means SOMETHING but jokes on you. IT DOESN'T.

EXHIBIT A.

the cook in the orphanage story, like??? What is his relevance? Just a random kid who lost their sister, made up a cannibalistic psychopath cook? Like why? Did his sister get eaten? The concept of the supper with human whatsoever was cute, but nevertheless doesn't show it's relevance in the main idea and revelation that it was all in the kids head. It was boring.

EXHIBIT B.

the circus background in the Death Show arc was like an pizza dough and then you stuff a LOT OF FILLINGS TILL IT OVERFLOW. It wasn't smooth and overall messy. Like the show and tell was cute, and then the end was like just information overload.

EXHIBIT C.

The characters in the mu*der Island confused me so much. How come there's a lot of people/characters and be not enough to build a solid background at the same time? Like what lantern dress? It was not cute. What toads? What natives and invaders? It was so f*cking confusing.

[collapse]

About the ML

Spoiler

it's not cute. It is not romantic. Most of the time I am filled with anxiety how the movie would look like since he liked kabedoning the main character. LIKE I SAID, HIS ADDITION IN THE MOVIE DOESN'T MAKE SENSE AND SHOULD BE QUESTIONED. Like the directors are there, the so called review board for rerelease are there. Like I said again, he's better off the main horror boss or a cannon fodder as well in the movies. It s**ked.

[collapse]

All in all, this would be at the bottom of the pit for unlimited flows I read. Even the one with I FORGOT THE TITLE but the male lead was named Bai Yi, although not perfect, WAS A BETTER CHOICE than this. It has shining moments, and interesting aspects but all in all it was a boring read. <<less

Scary but simultaneously charming 😂 My take on this is that it has a really good premise but the execution was a bit clumsy. Still, definitely worth the try at least. I can recommend this novel to people who are looking for something a bit more thrilling (since it really is mostly suspense/horror), but not entirely scary, since it has moment plenty lighthearted moments in between.

CHARACTERS:

The main character takes up most of the screen, as to be expected. But it’s even more than usual stories because moving between... more>> movies means the casts changes too often and the characters outside of the movies don’t really do much to move the plot forward... like even when you THINK they’re doing something important, in reality, they’re not dksksksl. Which makes their presence kind of awkward. As for the ML, he does have more of a presence, but he acts more like a golden finger... he doesn’t actually do much outside of flirt and save the protagonist 😭.

Main Character: Su Min

Anyway, the main character is called Su Min. He’s invited along by his friends to try out a new movie watching experience — where you can directly enter into the movie as one of the cast members. This MC is pretty brave, so he decides to challenge a horror movie, even though no one has ever tried it before. During his first movie watching experience, he meets a ghost character with a rather particular interest in him LOL.

Main Lead: Chen Su

I was going to put the ML’s name under spoilers but I realized it isn’t all that important LOL. Anyway, the ML is the ghost that the MC meets in the first movie (and the movies thereafter). He’s pretty persistent when it comes to the MC, and has liked him from the very beginning.

ROMANCE:

The romance wasn’t really the focus of the story. Since the ML’s appearances were sporadic rather than static, their interactions are usually pretty brief and just stuck into the horror/suspense setting.

SETTING:

Speaking of the setting, as I described earlier, the main premise is acting out a role by entering the movie directly. The player still gets to keep their name and body, they can also decide most of their personality, so it’s not completely a role play. Oh, and by the way, by completely clearing a movie, it can later be re-released as a new movie. This doesn’t affect the plot all that much, but it does set up the SuMin romance outside of the theaters LOL.

PLOT:

The underlying plot here is pretty weak. At first I assumed it was finding out the mysteries behind Chen Su... It really did seem that way (cause that’s what the last arc was about), but the way the author handled the reveal was very clumsy. Rather than slowly introducing the themes throughout the movie instances, they only scattered little hints and then dumped it all out in the end.

Major Spoilers:

Spoiler

Honestly, I’m still disappointed that Chen Su wasn’t really able to affect the movie instances all that much T.T It would have been fun if he had been more involved especially since his reason for “waiting” to reveal everything is rather weak. He couldn’t have just told Su Min, but he could have at least been more proactive at getting him to remember. I think Su Min remembering things gradually would have made the last reveal more memorable.

RATING:

I’m really conflicted about this novel 😖 I really liked it at first, but the further along it went, the more disappointed I became because it didn’t match up to my expectations, Ah. It’s my fault for expecting too much T.T Anyway, I still like the story as it is now. But, next time, my reason for reading this would definitely to enjoy the horror aspects, since that’s the real star here. The occasional MC&ML shenanigans are more of a sweet side dish to enjoy sparingly. Oh, my official rating for this is anywhere between 3-4 stars out of 5. I rounded it up to a four but I was really tempted to give it a three after the main ending T.T Too many hanging plots! Too many missed opportunities for more SuMin interaction. Part of me suspects the author may have had other plans but had to cut it off, but I dunno. Either way, it is what is. <<less
