Holographic viewing technology allowed audience members to enter a movie and personally experience it for themselves. Naturally, romance movies were the most popular and well-received, while nobody was interested in horror movies.

Su Min was the first of the viewers to experience a horror movie.

Later–

Malicious Spirit: I dare not scare nor frighten my sweetheart…

Su Min: Actually, horror movies aren’t scary at all.

Audience: No, no, no, you are playing in a romance movie! (Loudly)

The audience suddenly discovered that the recent rerelease of the horror movie was much better than the original. Furthermore, to everyone’s surprise, the ghost was very sweet…

3/5 for the story and 5/5 for the entertainment factor.

Really gripping and terrifying story overall, I couldn't put it down! However, I'll be the first to admit there were a lot of confusing bits and plot holes, especially when it comes to the movie plots themselves. But, I think the author really improved while writing this, and by the the Unknown Prison Arc the movie plots became tighter.

When it comes to the gong and shou, they definitely have amazingly sweet moments. I love how the shou never has to worry... more>> because the gong will surely protect him. Nevertheless, their dynamic isn't perfect and they need to communicate better.

Overall, I really liked this book! 100% recommend! <<less

Very good novel,

Will I read it again: Maybe, if I wanna read a horror type novel

The horror level of the novel is between wanting to stop reading it cause it feels too scary due to the unknown and the novel being too boring cause you already know what will happen. The novel has some comedy and fluffy moments here and there to ease the novel's horror value so that you won't have the feeling of not wanting to continue. My only dislike is: ... more>>
Spoiler

The ending of each arc, cause the plotlines of the horror movie are not fully explained during the duration of the movie, you will only get some additional information at the end of each arc when the MC rewatches the movie again and also some blog posts from the director about the storyline of the movie. It feels incomplete and there are many plots that were not fully explained.

Character Setting: Very solid foundation; they did not break character, and the character types very much to my taste. Their interactions were also cute af. From the first arc (first movie) onward, our ML leaves no opportunity for tofu-eating unturned.

World Setting: I actually really like the way this was done. The story within a story is a classic, but even the reasons for the expansion into holographic technology gets tied into the main plot. Has the vibe of a quick transmigration/world hopping novel because MC watches several movies in (relatively)... more>> quick succession. Actually very creepy, if not scary, movies as background; seriously bone-chilling imagery and the threat of death hangs over the MC's head (in the movies) almost constantly.

Plot Setting: Weakest category in my opinion. I would give a higher review of the individual movie plots within the story than the plot of the outer world on the basis that the ending, or perhaps the entire last quarter, felt a bit disjoint from the rest of the novel. But, while it feels off, I do not think it was bad enough of a wrap up to detract from the overall rating. <<less

Heads up: I get pretty critical later on, but I still finished reading the novel, so it was good enough that I didn't drop it. I just like to complain tbh lmao:

This was a relatively ok read. Pretty easy to cruise along if you just accept the fact that there will be many plotholes. If you try to think too hard about the backgrounds, whether it be the overall setup of the full-dive VR horror movie background, or the individual story arcs, then the reading experience will probably fall apart.... more>> As for the horror element, I think aside from the first arc which actually felt a little thrilling at times, the rest weren't really scary. The romance progression seems a little non-existent. ML was in love with MC at the start, and MC only seemed to go from 'wtf is wrong with this guy' to tolerating him. At some point, the MC was supposed to have fallen in love with the ML as well, but it was a little difficult to justify why he would have done so. Also, the "big reveal" in the end about Chen Su's identity fell flat. There were already various plotholes and unrealistic developments throughout but this was definitely the most unrealistic yet somehow flattest reveal. Although, the characterizations of ML and MC seem pretty 1-dimensional. MC doesn't have much of a personality past being pretty, having a good memory, and not being easily scared. Actually, 2/3 of that isn't really a personality. The ML's one trope is being heads over heels for the MC.

Anyways, the good parts: pretty brainless, not-scary horror if that's what you're going for, some cute moments between ML and MC, the setups for some of the arcs were pretty interesting. <<less

It's a very good novel but the author rushed through the finale and therefore not the very best novel. But I assure you that you'll love it through the process with many horror movies involved!

Hmm honestly if you're just looking for a shounen ai novel with a decent horror/supernatural plot, then I would say read the novel, it's pretty entertaining. But, be aware that there are lots of plot holes and things that are never answered in the plot.

First of all, the idea of a virtual movie viewing where you can become part of the cast is new and unique, but I simply don't understand how it's possible, and the author never actually bothers to explain the technology. This probably won't affect readers too... more>> much, but it's something to consider.

Secondly, I feel like the relationship between the MC and ML was exposed to way too many people... My second hand embarassment was going wild. It was also weird to me how
Spoiler

the ML was seen by the audience so easily even though he's a ghost in the films.

Not to be a realist, but it's also rather unfair for the MC to have been able to get through many of those films and have them all rereleased. I suppose having Chen Su with you is a form of luck of it's own.

[collapse]

The MC is pretty intelligent and relies on his smarts and capabilities to go through the films, but there were many moments where the ML took him out of situations where he would have certainly died. So, it does somewhat feel like he was getting carried through the films.

Anyways if you want something sweet and fluffy with horror elements, this is for you. I'd say it's worth giving a try despite some of the issues that I've found in it. For me, it was a good source of entertainment for the past few days. <<less

sigh* I give 5 stars just because of the translator. Not because of the story.

The MC could stay alive in every movie because he has that ghost boyfriend at his side. Such a heaven defying cheat! heh... whatever. I am 1000% super sure that the MC would die without that ghost's help.

Also I found that the plot in every arc... not scary at all, very ridiculous even...

In the end I stopped reading after the 3rd arc

Althought I'm not done with the story, I already think so many things about it! I'd definitely recommend it.

I went for the romance and the horror, and stayed for the horror. This is what I think:

  1. Horror: The horror is very present, and very scary. Almost couldn't sleep! The atmosphere was good, and it had the classic elements of horror story. The author really made it impossible to stop reading. I'd give 5/5 for the horror.
  2. The romance: I have to admit, the relationship right now is not what I expected. While they seem to be developping a very sweet relationship, I'm tired of the ML kissing the MC without their consent. Can we stop making non-consentual acts a thing? Otherwise, if you're here for sugar, you'll get it.
  3. Some reviewers talked about the novel having plot-holes (or it's just very complicated to understand) and I agree. Some things don't really make sense. But if you can get past this and the non-consentual kisses, you'll love this!

I fell in love at first grope... ok that sounds terrible lmao

I was attracted to the premise: MC is spoiled by a ghost in a horror movie. That screamed dog food & fluff, two of my favorite features & it's in a supernatural-horror setting as well. I don't read horror, but if there is fluff- COUNT ME IN. So, NO, I didn't expect any mind-blowing plot or twist that could shatter my reality. Nor did I imagine characters that are incredibly full of depth. This novel is pretty shallow in... more>> terms of story, characters, relationships. However, I won't go to say it's terrible. It's at decent length & despite the plot holes, it's not difficult to understand. The conclusion was a bit lacking in my opinion, but I truly enjoyed the interactions between the MC & ML. I lean in favor of ML though. MC is a bit of a dry salted fish.

TL;DR Mediocrely good; don't expect anything more. <<less

I like the concept of holographic movies in this novel in lieu of QT systems. The shock value and gruesomeness of scenes depicted in scenes paints a terrifying picture and it has done its job. The overall stories of each arc hm, I like some and others were just okay.

Spoiler

I am, however, getting a little tired because while the ML says he cannot directly interfere with the movie plot. He's really an OP cheat card. I feel as though it undermines MC's capabilities sometimes. Because the MC gets praised for being the only one to finish the holographic movie until the end but yeah, would he have been able to without the ML's help?

The ML inappropriately eating tofu at odd times makes me want to flip tables sometimes too. And the MC can't do anything but take it and pretend to lie there dead. That's so romantic... not.

Why are the audience or film producers of said movies not weirded out about ML's presence following him in every movie? Are they not concerned that this anomaly has appeared? @A@; I expected Daoist priests or technicians and exorcists to approach MC about this ghost haunting his every movie experience. But none of it happens, instead the fans form a ship and his cousin ships them so hard, so I'm ???

[collapse]

Anyway I'm hoping the backstory to explain itself later as I continue reading... it's what's keeping me going so far. <<less

I kinda liked it but not enough to move it to my good stuff shelve.

I am not a fan of horror movies and even some of the earth is online scenes made me feel disgusted, and this one is probably not better. But the plot was interesting enough, and I mostly enjoyed reading the novel.

Some of the things I did not like are:

... more>> MC is OP. It is reasonable but boring.

ML found a strange way to persue the MC. Too complicated to be realistic but without it there would be no story. Still deserved several eyerolls from me.

The ending was a little bit off. It is not that I wished for a totally different ending, but I think it could be executed better.

In overall, it was good but not smth I will ever reread. Shelved as "it was ok". <<less

I really enjoyed pretty much all of the "world-hopping" subplots and the main couple's romance was really cute. The only thing I have to say is that the ending felt like a fever dream. A lot of other people have said this as well and my best guess is the author got tired of the story so she just rushed the ending. If you don't mind a fairly unsatisfying

actually 3.5 since I cant re rate.

im gonna be honest, I enjoyed the first few arcs especially the first one I was spooked. But that didn't lasted long I began to feel bored at the middle and just scroll past some conversations coz I felt like the plot was just going on circles and many questions were unanswered. The relationship between the leads are just soso for me I didn't felt the connection I was looking for with them. It took more than 100+ chapters before the other lead was... more>> completely introduced. It was tiring waiting for his story to unfold. I think this could've better made as short story like few movie arcs but also focused the story of the leads. Anyways still a good read for enthusiasts of horror bl. <<less

It was fun for a while. Dropped off, not rating because

Spoiler

I was really excited for a cool female side character and then the writer slapped me with ‘actually this is a crossdressing man because obviously women can’t ever be cool and competent. I couldn’t keep reading after that.

The horror was good, typically asian horror style, of which I am a fan. For those who are looking for a more gore/slasher western type horror would be disappointed. Asian horror is based more on atmosphere, characterisation, supernatural, folkloric tales and very simple and open-ended plots.

As for the romance, it is somewhat lacking. There is a lot of flirting between the 2MCs but that was all. It was just flirting within the movies and one arc about their backstory and meeting in real life. But afterwards, nothing more. Nothing about... more>> their life together as a couple. <<less

I really enjoyed this novel - it was a fun read and well translated. That said, I felt that the reveals (whether it was the reveal in the main story or in the horror movies) were really abrupt and not as satisfying as I hoped. The author does a great job of developing characters, a story, and the mystery, but then uses the most cliche and trope-y way to resolve the mystery. Usually, the main character has already "guessed" the ending (with astonishing leaps of logic) and the final reveal... more>> doesn't add much. This means that many of the stories have a proliferation of plot holes.

However, if you are able to turn your mind off a little, the characters and their interactions are quite sweet. And the settings that the author develops are all pretty interesting. <<less

The story was only ok for me. I personally felt that there were too many different stories (arcs) and they didn’t really focus on finding out ML’s past until right at the end.

The ending was too abrupt.
Spoiler

I was hoping there would be more scenes of ML and MC after they met each other in reality and could help us understand more abt ML but nope. They also only briefly mentioned that ML was involved in some project that created the holographic tech and he destroyed that lab later????

Idk I just thought that MC/ML story was more interesting than the actual movies MC was in.

I must say, the author sure has a thing for skins and food. Almost all of the arcs, those were emphasized.

Fortunately, the translator still finished translating this. It is a good novel but definitely not my favourite.

The story focused on MC and his adventures in different movies. It kind of has a detective vibe. I also like how the MC is very intelligent and kind of a tsundere.

I just find the interaction between the ML and MC not enough. If only there are more interactions between them, I would really... more>> love it. After all, the ML is very possessive and that's just my cup of tea.

There are many plotholes in the story and I was able to predict the ending of most arcs and the reasons behind the happenings. The MC also seem to attract lots of ghosts to help him. I guess that's just one of his golden finger and there is that big golden thigh who is always beside or behind him.

The reason I finished reading this story is because of the curiosity about the ML's identity, though I was also able to guess that. Anyway, I guess I was kind of satisfied.

Maybe also one of the reasons I pushed through reading this is because I was able to guess while reading and it made me happy knowing I was right. <<less

The horror scenes definitely had gripping moments and I found that to be compelling. You can tell the author really enjoys the genre. However, as strange as it sounds, I can't even sum up what this book is about, so I'm going to call it slice of life.

That being said, it's not bad, it's just not great (I don't rate lower than a 4 unless I think it's really not worth your time). Don't expect character development or engaging dialogue (perhaps in its original language, it flows much more smoothly).

Re: romance. Half the time I didn't know if the MC liked the ML or not. So it was kind of difficult to believe in their bond.
