Holographic viewing technology allowed audience members to enter a movie and personally experience it for themselves. Naturally, romance movies were the most popular and well-received, while nobody was interested in horror movies.

Su Min was the first of the viewers to experience a horror movie.

Later–

Malicious Spirit: I dare not scare nor frighten my sweetheart…

Su Min: Actually, horror movies aren’t scary at all.

Audience: No, no, no, you are playing in a romance movie! (Loudly)

The audience suddenly discovered that the recent rerelease of the horror movie was much better than the original. Furthermore, to everyone’s surprise, the ghost was very sweet…

The plot for each arc aka world is actually interesting and does make them into a real horror experience. I highly recommend this story for those who want a transmigration (well not really haha) and thriller story, not a danmei.

I've read three arcs of this, and I'm dropping it. The translation is good, but the writing is... not.

I'm giving this a 2.5, because I've read worse stories, but this gave me high expectations but totally failed at fulfilling them.

I feel like the author wrote themselves into a corner with this. They were trying to find a "logical" or "scientific" reason for the world hopping, and came up with the idea of interactive movie watching. But then they couldn't follow through and the premise simply doesn't hold water. How can... more>> the movies be shot with real actors and still be "playable"? It would be fine if it was on the level of those old interactive text-based games, that basically gives you a few preset choices, and then continues the story based on that choice. But no, this is like it's being played live, in real time, with all the actors, and with evey viewer/player, simultaneously. There's no way this could work in reality, with real actors.

If they had gone with the idea of movie version + playable interactive game version, with AI-generated characters based on the actor performances from the movie, that would have made more sense. In a setting where that kind of immersive VR technology exists, it's not hard to also postulate that a higher level of AI technology also exists. So in the end it just comes off as lazy world-building.

But that's not the big problem with this setup. It's that when choosing the instances to be actual horror movies, the author restricted themselves to how bad, nonsensical and full of plot holes real horror movies are. The movies are uninventive, uninteresting and basically bad storytelling, beyond the scares. The first one was very simplistic and tropey, but at least had a mystery to be solved. The second one did have a kind of mystery, but it was also full of plot holes and loose ends. The third? No plot, no mystery, no unravelling, just a random series of gross and gruesome killings piled on top of each other with no rhyme or reason. The whole thing was just designed to create a sense of disgust and claustrophobia. Nothing else. Not even the interactions between the characters are very interesting.

Now, this might have been fine if we had had a good romance to carry us through. But I'm sorry to say that even this was lacklustre and even uncomfortable. The ML basically enters the plot by groping and fondling the MC in the form of a next-to-invisible ghost, with no introduction and no consent, and this is basically how it goes on. ML appears in ghost form, acts like a lecher (in front of the cameras) , and incidentally protects the MC from dying deus-ex-machina style. And the MC just calmly goes along with it. There's no chemistry, no tension, no development, just random dog food with no emotional content. Maybe the MC goes along with it because it gives him a cheat, because I can detect no other reason for it.

Don't get me wrong, I certainly don't mind explicit content, but when it's there I want it to feel emotionally charged. Not just lecherous fondling on one part and on the other part just going along with it because he has no major objections and because it gives him a useful cheat. It's not romantic. And still their interactions, caught on camera and released in cinemas, are blown up as super romantic by the other viewers, despite the ML being an invisible ghost who can't be seen or heard... except for in the MC's reactions and behaviour when he's around. It's baffling.

I guess if you really enjoy reading gruesome horror scenes this might still be a good book for you. But for me who am kind of meh about the horror and read danmei for interesting plots, fun characters and great romance, it's not it. <<less

a low stakes, low drama, no character development novel. The horror films are interesting but not very scary. The romance is typical for this kind of novel, with a calm MC who resists but secretly enjoys the ml's advances. ML seems to fall in love with MC at first sight

the only drama is in the films, there are no villains and no face slapping.

Spoiler

actually MC and ML met as children when ml's spirit was wandering while his body was in a coma or something. MC was forced to forget, so ML has been trying to spark his memories by interacting with him in a way that resembles their childhood. Mc's lost memories are a result of his parents trying to protect him because they thought ML was endangering him. It was a misunderstanding.

After an arc I always say to myself that I should give it a chance but when I'm about to drop it it's already about to end so I just finished reading the whole thing. Definitely won't reread. Side characters are bland except in the prison arc. The protagonists in prison arc had more chemistry than our MC and ML. The protagonists are made to make MC look smart. It didn't, it made the protagonists look s*upid. You only need to read until arc 1 and then the prison arc... more>> and then the last arc. I don't even remember where the clues are because I keep on stopping. So many filler sentences, the mystery is not mysterious, the horror is not scary enough, the romance is not romantic it's more of coercive. I really dislike the ML kissing MC in front of someone when the MC clearly doesn't like it. Very offputting. 2.5 I just like the prison arc protagonists. <<less

I'll keep it short and simple. It was good while it lasted.

No, I'm kidding. I thought it was alright. At first, it was interesting and loved how it was full of mysterious. It's like solving the situation of what could be happening or who's causing the whole scenario of the events. The thing I wasn't interested was the romance, it got boring real quick and then the story in general got boring. The story just didn't hit me as it did in the beginning. Felt like som arcs were being... more>> dragged on with some nonsense OR they'll just start rushing it.

Interesting, nonetheless. <<less

Im just surprised that I hadn't make a review on this before. Since its been a long time I could only review on what I remember and maybe edit the review once I reread it again.

The plot idea is interesting. Imagined having to enter movies as a certain character and help build the ending. I remember dreaming of this becoming reality and was so excited for it. MC here unlike normal people choose to enter a horror movie for fun. And each time the ML/ a ghost would assist him.... more>> Which brought on the element of horror and tinge of comedy.

The ending was wrap a little too random. <<less

Pros :

MC played a holographic horror game, passed it with flying grades, became a pro gamer. ML is the maker or something of the vr and chased MC in the game. It's a light read for me, ML always come to save the day.

Cons :

Feels bland, the horror and suspense are there but not enough. MC too op with ML's help.

I say my experience reading this is alright. I enjoy some arcs as I find the first arc, fourth arc, fifth and sixth arc to be interesting.

However as some might point out there is some problem with characterization. I have no problem with MC lack of fear toward ghost, but the author wrote it as if MC has no fear what so ever. This has proven to be wrong as MC reaction towards things to be inconsistent. It can be concluded that he fears death. But as someone... more>> who reads this a non reader could be confused. There's also the ML. I did have trouble how he could have meet MC and even the part where it was explained was written a bit poorly explained. Not to mentioned that this is explained at the before the ending. I feel like the author try to make ML background more prestigious but really I think it's best left out some details.

Spoiler

Like he is the director of a mental hospital. I think that he is the originator of the VR technology and the director of said VR was alright.

[collapse]

I believe the VR world is interesting just that I feel that it is lacking a bit.

MC and ML relationship is alright not exactly fluffy as most describe it. I actually like that ML cannot interfere with the plot as much. And MC was mostly the one taking the lead. MC has some golden finger but he mostly the one finding out the story and how to get out of the situation. Even if it is like giving MC a bit of that plot armor.

This is all I could say. I hope you guys have a much better experience than I do. Is not that I don't like it but rather I don't enjoy as much compare to others. <<less

4.5 Stars

Good ending but I feel like it needs more to it. I love the concept of experiencing movies in first person and it was hilarious how most of scary moments didn't happen bcz the MC just minded his pretending nothing happened and made everyone else do the same lol it's really relatable (≧▽≦) The ML is so... so much of an exhibitionist!!! But I liked it (人 •͈ᴗ•͈) There are so many more things liked and found cute as well; especially the reason (s) why the ML loved the... more>> MC so much.

It also showed that irl most horror movies arent good at all; there are so many things that can ruin it and I liked that representation. Because if they were all good then it would've felt a bit fake. <<less

I’ve read this before and was waiting for translation to be finished.

The premise was a bit new to me at the time and seemed interesting so I gave it a go, The arc so far have good plots but strangely, I had to pause several times while reading and wasn’t as intrigued throughout the story-telling as I excepted myself to be.

Spoiler

I get that the MC is aloof and smart based from the people’s remarks about him but I feel like it is greatly overshadowed by the OP ML. Several times I had to think on what would’ve happened if ML wasn’t there to save MC and can’t help but think he would’ve failed the same as the others. To this, I would say he should’ve thought about how he could’ve survived without his help but it felt to me life he took this for granted— like he was entitled to being the special one out of many??

[collapse]

Also a bit puzzling for me how people would pay for this experience when they mostly enter a horror film and be expected to live as a cannon fodder. On a business perspective, this would only be popular for the adventure seeking ones and the movie should’ve at least provided an option to have a character that’s relatively safe. Who would want to enter the movie and die on a first ghost encounter. That’s such a shame to be first kill ok 🙄

Overall thought, it was still an okay read for me and will continue sometime. I’m sure I liked it at some point but I didn’t get the feeling of wanting to stay up all night just so I could flip to the next chapter in enthusiasm. <<less

It was really interesting, the arcs were engaging since the MC is actually interested in figuring out the mystery in the movies. MC also is smart and has common sense so while the ML saves him in some critical junctures the MC doesn't depend solely on the ML. He is definitely not one of those s*upid characters that get killed off in movies right away, he thinks things through clearly to find a way to survive and when things are beyond his power the ML sweetly steps in and saves... more>> him but in the end it is still the MC saving the day since ML can't interfere too much. MC does pretty much all the work and ML just saves him when the MC is in danger beyond his abilities.

There was only one arc I didn't like, it was still engaging but I just didn't like it. All the other arcs were good and the ML was always shamelessly flirting and touching the MC hahaha😂🤣. The only thing is that if you are expecting horror, you're not going to get it. While the arcs do have a plot aligning with the horror movies they're supposedly based on this is a romance story so it's not scary at all.

The romance development is pretty good and suits my tastes 🥰. For some reason it reminds me of how romances develop in the west since it moves along pretty fast and has a lot of deliberate skinship from the very beginning 😳. It's not the traditional accidental skinship, the I didn't have any other intentions (innocent) but seem to have provoked you, or even the I'm only touching you cuz I have no choice trope, which then always later turns in to feelings being developed by MC or ML. The ML was deliberately feeling the MC up, flirting and trying to stir up feelings from the very beginning because he couldn't hold back and take it slow. There was nothing innocent, accidental, or reluctant about it lol. From the very beginning ML had certain intentions😆.

The ending is decent. It is abrupt but at least you find out the connection between the ML and the MC past. The ML past is kinda weird though and I mean... I guess it gives explanation for why he's a ghost in the movies and stuff but it's still kinda weird. But whatever, it's just a novel and everything else was good so I can forgive the weird explanations for the ML past. <<less

I loved this a lot, probably one of my favorites. The movies and the plots in them were very intriguing, the concept of holographic movies was also interesting.
Spoiler

Also, as to how they could have met before had me constantly wondering throughout the novel.

[collapse]

I have a couple of complaints though

  1. I want to know more about what happened after everything and I wanted for them to have more interactions in real life. The ending could have been longer and have had more content, it just abruptly ended after everything was found out. It didn't leave me satisfied, and the extras are only about other movies they went to together.
  2. I wish that Chen Su and Su Min weren't so intimate/kissing right off the bat and had time to fall in love.

    Spoiler

Though I do understand they met before and were good friends in their childhood, they still have never addressed those feelings with each other then, and also the fact that Su Min did not remember Chen Su.

    [collapse]
But otherwise, I really enjoyed the horror.

It is an amazing story. Even though it is a horror, there are much more of fluff and comedy. Very good and light story. We didn’t know much about the ML almost until the end. It was getting my brain to work very hard in trying to figure out what is the story behind it!

The main story is consist from several long arcs - each is a movie. This is really interesting to read. You have almost an adventure-detective story in each. I’m not in watching horror movies myself but... more>> this ones are pretty good, as I think.

Our MC is study god and can see ghosts. I likes his calm character. It was quite interesting to watch him uncovering mysteries and trying to understand himself and this strange ghost near by. There interactions are so sweet. But there was not much of it. Only a small cake pieces sometimes.

it general, it is one of my favorite stories. I will definitely read it again. Uuuuhhhh it is so good. Highly recommend to give it a go. <<less

The novel overall was brilliant with a new concept that I first read about.

The whole book is suspenseful and the pace is manageable, not fast but not quite slow...

MC is smart and totally awesome.. and the ML is super cool (my opinion)

This was a not so average take on transmigration without the actual transmigrating part. Going to the cinema to experience different horror stories and have a pe*verted ghost following you through them is definitely a unique take on it. But the end was rushed, and the SPOILER AHEAD ... more>>

lost memories part just left me with a bad taste because they made it unnecessarily complicated and s*upid

.

I really appreciate the effort of the translators who worked on this because wow, even I got scared at times and I'm a pretty big horror junkie. If you're an easily scared person make sure you read this during the day. I also disagree with some of the other reviewers who say that the MC is constantly being protected by the ML. He's got a golden finger yes, but usually only when it is absolutely necessary and that doesn't discredit his ability to solve situations by himself and handle scary situations. Most times the ML just comes out to grope our MC and say some outrageous stuff that will either make you feel like you are a lonely lonely person to subjugate yourself to horror for some dog food or giggling like a fangirl.

One thing I disliked about this transmigration which isn't really transmigration was that the MC was very monotone and boring. He never really had a 'lively' reaction. I can see the appeal of a monotonous character entering horror plots but I generally do enjoy seeing some sort of anger or sadness at how the other cannon fodder characters are subjected to unspeakable horrors. It would've been gratifying to see those "monsters" meet cruel ends by MC firsthand instead of constantly taking it as a game of CLUE.

Anyways this is a horror transmigration which isn't really a transmigration, has well fleshed out sub characters that you don't forget easily, and if you can ignore the -dumb- ending (in my op), is a well written novel. <<less

it's a fun read. It's too horrifying for my taste so I dropped it halfway. Interactions of MC and ML are kind of funny bc theyre not afraid of death (ML scares ghosts away). ML is very shameless, which is also funny. Kinda weird how the audience always manages to notice interactions of MC and ML in the movies.

Shameless ML was the best part of this entire story~ Also really liked the fact that the horror movies aren't perfect plot and character action wise, and was also explained as the movies themselves having these issues because it's so true.

But the holographic technology part was just handwaved in, and wasn't explained at all. Just treat it as magic, really. Doesn't have an explanation for how it works just that it does.

The real issue however is really just how abrupt the ending is. It's like a fall off a sheer... more>> cliff. So anticlimactic and disappointing. Only MC and ML past together was explained, and on Mc's part it was extremely handwavy. The story also ends right as they finally officially get together, so that's a major point for the abrupt point.

Only good thing is the extras are the 2 missing arcs, so finally get to see what happens there. But after reading it they were quite brief, and while nice, kinda disappointing too. <<less

It was a pretty "meh" start, but I got more and more into the story while reading. The horror movie scenarios were pretty fun, and surprisingly enough, there was some rather cute (albeit crazy) fluff towards the ending. All in all, really enjoyed this.
