To Be A Virtuous Wife

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

As a virtuous wife, does it include tolerating his cousin, enduring his concubines, bearing his mother?

If you will not let me live freely, why would I let you live in satisfaction?

Did fate let women time-travel so they could learn the three morals and four virtues?

Rather than act like a coward and live, it would be better to live in satisfaction and die.

Among the historical+reincarnation stories I have read so far, I find this one the most enjoyable. I have re-read this many times. Every reading a pleasure.

If someone could turn a pavlova into a story, this would be the result. Full of fluffy sweetness that melts in the mouth, a firm but thin crust to give it some texture and some chopped fresh fruit to give it some bittersweet moments.

This translation is also a great pleasure to read. Many thanks to Dreams of Jianghu.

Being the sort that binge-read, I searched for series with large chapters and/or completed novels. I bookmarked this series for later and after reading the description I kept putting it off to be read later. Now that I have actually read it, I feel it is indeed a good story. Not exactly romance, not exactly a love story; but a story about a couple eventually trusting each other, flirting with each other, discovering each other, to be utterly comfortable with each other. Against a backdrop of courtly intrigue, verbal jabs... more>> disguised as backhanded compliments, concubines and relatives that compete with each other for favor. If you have seen popular Asian drama series that revolve around a Chinese imperial family like "Princess Pearl" or "Legend of Zhen Huan", you get the idea.

You're not going to get a story about how the MC manipulates everyone around her with her knowledge. In fact, the "future self reincarnation time travel" seems like an afterthought, a vehicle for the author to insert modern-views to contrast against the culture of the story's setting. So don't be turned off by the fantastical aspect, it is the only thing that is unbelievable in it. As I said it's not exactly romance, not exactly a love story. But at the end, you will feel satisfied that this is an ideal love: two people who understand each other, unafraid to be passionate, unafraid of slander, being devoted and yet realistic about the challenges a couple would face.

Don't be afraid of the many footnotes and exotic terms, after a while you will know who is who and in general, not very important because the prose is relatively compact and doesn't try to drown you with too many characters at once per scene. <<less

An awesome read... the characters, the plot, the gradual change of feelings onto love is so beautifully written. Its not like the other reincarnated/transmigrated female MC that behaved outrageously or forcefully trying to uplift the society to her modern standard then offend various people or have legion of haremites male chara trying to woo her. This is already a decided couple that in the beginning (neutrally) doesn't expect much from the other, then step by step changing to admiration and then understanding (Its Love~)

The best chinese (time travel) historical... more>> romance that I read to the end, and want to read again and again. <<less

*sniff* IT’S OVER!!!

Good story with a heartwarming romance. It may not totally be a pure love relationship, but it’s a relationship that makes me smile each chapter. The conflicts between the couple and the various enemies spice up the story, and the flow of events keeps me on my toes. While the ending for the couple was a bit see-through, it’s an amazing story with a lot of heart and smiles.

Not for OP ruthless main character fighting-addicted readers.

This is not about action or war, nor about complicated empire politics

It is just about daily life of a modern woman who revived as an ancient chinese lady that married a prince

For those that seek complicated story, this is not for you

... more>> But if you're willing to try and slowly read it, you'll find each chapter has its own beauty

Kudos for the translator and editors team, they managed to keep the author's writing style in each chapter. One thing for sure, Dreams of Jianghu is not lazy translator; they translate because they love and want to share the story so you can expect great translation quality <<less

One of my favorite and most enjoyable novels I've read :)

The story is very interesting and even though its about a reincarnated character, it is in no way related to her past life. She talks and compares her life in the modern world once in a while but it doesn't take away from the plot at hand. The story is pretty much about women and their husbands of the ancient world. There isn't any amazing or crazy action happening but the story does take you to a different view... more>> point.

The main character Qu Qing Ju is a calm and collected woman. She takes things as they come and she is able to handle any situation with a collected mind. She is in no way a pushover! She rewards people as she see fit and show no mercy to those who harm her. :D

A very good read that is surely not a waste of your time!!! :D <<less

interesting, it's has so much different setting than the usual novel I read. I mean you got a girl whom got reincarnated into a dead body of a princess consort. But she didn't get love from her surrounding at first, her husband has a bunch of concubines, and he has met before the reincarnation scene happens. This girl shows her brilliance and cunning ability to crawl into our heart. I like how the novel portrait a ancient Chinese custom as it is, it doesn't soften the situation according to today... more>> custom. And at least I'm feeling grateful for the translator whom trying at her best to convey all of the tiny bits of ancient Chinese custom such as different methods to call your spouse, mother, step-mother and etc. The first few chapters is daunting for those who haven't had any clue in Chinese, because there were so many footnotes about term that shows on the translation. But don't be disheartened because your pain will be paid off soon. <<less

This is nice,... its just like watching those chinese period drama full of Intrigue... and the MC behave accordingly to the conduct of that era, which mean a little bit of mean for modern people but necessary or expected of that ancient era. I find the MC actions to be understandable.

Nooot to mention the culture difference... and not trying to uplift the society, etc, etc... that is nice, just living to the fullest is great too.

Enjoyable read so far :)

It’s good. I like how Qing Yu is able to adapt quickly, and yet still manage to kept her own ideal. I was afraid at first that it will become another case where reincarnated person forced their values to their new life, but it didn’t happen.

Note about the translation: You might get overwhelmed by the amount of Chinese term (e.q. Wang Fei) and because 1 person could be called with several name according to the rank difference between the two. But it actually add your understanding about the story nicely.

What a beautiful romance! It has everything in the story, you never get tired of reading it, because things happen and the story progresses. He Heng's romance with Qu Qing Ju is wonderful to read, it happens little by little.

And what a woman Qu Qing Ju is, she is wonderful, she lives the way she wants and knows how to act, it is this way of hers that wins over He Heng.

I liked how the story ended, it gave me a sense of accomplishment, because there were no loose ends... more>> left in the end.

Spoiler

The emperor suffered because of his blindness and favoritism towards He Yuan and Shu Guifei. He Ming, who was the one he ignored the most, had the best ending and He Qi was kind of forgotten in the story, he appeared more before being imprisoned in the tower, after he was released, he and his wife were kind of forgotten.

Anyway, I loved the story, I felt satisfied because it had a little bit of everything, I liked the ending and that Qu Qing Ju really gave herself to He Heng. Because it shows that she truly fell in love with him and that he was worthy of her love until the end.

I’ve read this novel many times. It’s a good comfort read. There’s really no scheming from FL as she’s just being herself honestly. I usually dislike reading novels where ML has a harem but this one is different.

Spoiler

In the end, I wouldn’t say the main leads truly love each other. FL obviously knows not to fall for ML so as to protect herself. For the ML, I believe he thinks FL is the only one for him, but he hasn’t truly given up his heart to her.

This is obvious in scenes where an “interesting” woman will stand out to garner ML’s attention and he’ll actually become distracted for a bit. It takes him either realizing the woman is purposefully approaching him, or FL appearing for him to regain his composure.

[collapse]

Despite this, FL is extremely charming and I continue to reread this novel just for her lol. <<less

Tolerating? There is no tolerating anything for this heroine! She gets what she wants and doesn’t suffer at all while getting it. I still read it all with rapt attention so somehow that wasn’t boring. The author leaves some things unexplained and leaves you guessing at the political plotting happening almost in the background. I appreciate that!

The story really focuses on the romance and relationship development.

I’ve read more romantic couples before but what this story has is actual intimacy in the bedroom. I don’t know why, but often, these c... more>> novels have such ambiguous descriptions that, often, you don’t even know if anything happened. Or even if the heroine liked it? Not here! Quite clear here. Nothing racy but you can understand the events and that was a first.

This romance, in effect, is a bit of sprinkle sprinkle dynamic if you know what I mean. The heroine is the more coolhearted in the couple, so you get a wish fulfillment story of this really powerful hero wooing her. Very enjoyable, very low stress. I loved it! <<less

It's actually good compared to the latest c-novels that have hints of c-propaganda. This novel is untainted. I like how author addresses the villains in a realistic way and not the exaggerated face-slapping that most c-novels have in the recent years. I love how love was portrayed through actions rather than words. But there's still something missing that I can't put my finger on. Anyways, this was perfectly sweet I just need more.

Read TBAVW for the nth time and will never get tired rereading it in the future! Really one of my all time favorite historical romance novel (in ancient China setting) 🫶

The author is just one of the best in this genre. I especially like ETT, ADND, LPAJ and TBAVW of course.

So to those planning to read this gem, I can definitely say that you'll read this multiple times because I did 😄

Such a refreshing read. Although I like more drama. This was just perfect for an out of the ordinary "time travel/ transmitigation" novel. Give it a chance. It was good and smooth.

I really don't want to argue with every single bad opinion on every novel that I like so I'll just make this clear. This novel is not for people who want the MC to go through constant hardships and use up 100% of their brain power 24/7. This is just a novel about a transmigrator cruising through life with minor pebbles in the way from time to time. And if you find it boring or bland that there isn't really any issues big issues, then this novel isn't for you... more>> but for me this novel was really good.

The translations was also very nice as well. And to everybody who on the first chapter was complaining about the amount of Chinese there was and dropped the novel because of it, f*ck you for being so utterly illogical. It's a Chinese novel set an Ancient Chinese times. Why didn't you expect that there was going to be a sh*t ton of titles?? If you don't understand read it until you do. <<less

Bro those epilogue... damn 😭

It's good that it focuses more on the romance than bloody schemings. Some stories are too drama heavy and filled with nasty characters that it's frustrating to read. This at least has balanced amount of good n bad people, and some even got redemption arc.

I've put off reading this multiple times because I thought it wasn't that interesting and I couldn't be more wrong. I love how the author wrote the dynamics of the relationship between FL and ML. Watching them interact, fall in love, and form a companionship together puts a smile on my face.

But aside from the main couple, I am also in awe at how the author created the personas of the other character. One character that I didn't expect to have an impact in my heart was He Yuan. I... more>> can't exactly tell if I love his character or not, whether I feel sad for him or not,

but just reading the chapter and passages about him and his unrequited love for the QQJ, I feel a sense of melancholy. I just can't help but sigh whenever I think of him. Such complexity of his character made him have such a huge impact on me. I just hope in his next life he will also be able to find someone that he will love wholeheartedly and love him back just as He Heng found Qu Qing Ju.

Kudos to the author! I really enjoyed reading this one. I'm also going to try reading the author's other works and I hope I won't be dissatisfied. <<less

This is probably one of the best historical romance novel I've read so far. I love both MC and ML in this story, they were consistent from start to finish. MC is a very pragmatic and practical person. She is a person who makes sure to give back what was given to them, whether it's kindness or cruelty. She is very good to herself and those loyal to her. While ML may be cunning considering he grew up in the imperial palace, he is also honest and from start to... more>> finish he always made sure to show his sincere feelings for our MC. Their romance is quite subtle and this time it's MC who shows their feelings through actions not words, in the relationship instead of the other way around 😅.

Spoiler

From start to finish FL never said "I love you" to ML which bothered him at first but as they lived their lives he understood her "love language" that FL showed her love for him more through her actions and how she behaved towards him. I felt sorry for ML at first because he felt insecure as she never explicitly responded to his words but when she said that he doesn't need to worry because they have their whole lives to prove and show their love to each other I was so happy for them, though I'm not sure if he remembers that since he was drunk at the time😅

[collapse]

I definitely recommend this 100%, it's a short and very enjoyable read. <<less

Very good story - loved many characters. Loved there was no true “white flower” character - one has to fight for what they want and good life, just being good or virtuous doesn’t mean good things will happen but also one should not be tyrannical to people for no reason.

Spoiler

Feel like it was a little too much to have He Yuan spend his whole life pining for the Empress. Despite having a full life, makes one feel desolate.
