Chu Yang, the Ninth Master of the Nine Tribulations Sword, sacrificed almost everything he had for the sake of improving his martial arts, including the love of his life. This author's novels are funny. They don't disappoint in humor.

MC's a schemer, but he's not the best. The antagonist is actually fairly flawless, but his subordinates keep getting tricked.

MC's buddies are interesting and varied. They all have various backgrounds and family issues.

Romance is okay. The love interest is currently young, but she's cool. The other girls are pretty good too.

MC's master is really awesome and cool.

Lots of politics. I kinda felt bad for MC's enemies... second-hand embarrassment...

The sword is really epic. The world building is too.

One of the most favorite novels to date. I finished this novel a while and suffered sleep deprivation and couldn't go to work properly. One of the thing I like about this novel is that it has good bromance; very rarely seen in most novels nowadays, great massive casts. Overall, very consistent and fun to read.

More focus on events and character interaction than most other stories that are laden with hundreds of irrational bad guys. The antagonists are mentioned frequently are are actually characters with back stories and aspirations in the story unlike most Xuanhuan bad guys. The difference between levels isn't 'between heaven and earth' as much as it is in other novels. So far the laws and powers of the world have not been expounded upon much yet. Looking like it is going to be a harem, 3 girls already can't live without... more>> him, but it is done in a somewhat tasteful way compared to most other stories of this genre. Also unlike other such novels there is not nearly as much finding good fortune under every rock, everything stems from aforementioned treasures or sword parts. I will say that the MC is unreasonably crafty when he supposedly is supposed to be a solitary person without much scheming ability. He has unbeatable planning and deductive prowess with no background or training for it, the novel actually mentions that he is supposed to be that way, it is a bit contradictory. Good bit of comedy, both schadenfreude and like you would laugh at your friends, makes you feel like you are part of the group. <<less

MC seems to pull out new skills out of a hat. Also dat sword spirit doesn't fit the expected image, I feel it should be more serious. Another thing.. He is now power uping too fast which is lame, though I said some negative things about this novel it's still worth reading for now. Expecting political schemes :D

One of the nice stories. Not inferior than other xianxia.

If you like xianxia, you'll like this.

I don;t know about next chapter, but for now (ch. 40), I'm eagerly waiting for the next.

glad I checked the comments before reading forgot I read up to the point he was dealing with some ridiculous unfolded world or reality nonsense some kinda spacew principles shit. It bad the english translation f*cked it up so bad. Just use google translate on chrome and youll have a better time. They do his best friend so f*cking dirty its not funny.

Its good.

Comedy, Smarts, Good Jokes, Good Romance

Less Focused on battleskills or techniques, comphrehension is almost nonexistent, besides maybe using poison I don't think there are any cool battleskills, its just higher cultivation wins, its like they are fights are described as slashed, quickly or like a water stream, blah blah

I need to stop reading novels that are not finished translating, I tried out MTL but it just doesn't work so, I'm guessing the novel has like another thousand chapters and he hasn't even ascended yet so.

For starters, I'm basically re-reading this novel, hence the first volume and first chapter bit. Let me just add that the main character, in his previous life cycle, was celibate because his yang cultivation method required him to not engage in interc**rse with even the woman he loved (one of his regrets as he plunged the sword in his heart in the first chapter.) It's a 5-star rating on the basis of the prologue having a decent hook, thus leading me to read many chapters (I forgot which chapter... more>> I left off at before dropping the novel out of boredom; I tend to do this when I'm having a hard time keeping track which chapter I bookmarked- there was nothing wrong with the story, mind you.) <<less

When a random wolf gets a monologue, it is a f turn off when reading. I rarely mind plot holes and sht but it ruins the flow too much.

This novel have interesting characters and plotline to keep me reading but my feelings for it was not as good as before.

Its quality as a novel is not good to have 4 so the rating.

I liked the story 'cause it was different from the stories I previously have read - there is a really smart MC who doesn't get dumber throughout the story, he is cunning and so on. It really was like LlamaKing wrote in his review - "a breath of fresh air".

The only thing I didn't like about MC - his obsession with his past (future (guh, it's hard to explain without spoiling)) lover who is too young at the moment they meet again (?) - it is awkward to read because... more>> I don't like what the MC becomes, when she is around - MC is not cunning, scary and smart but a silly and awkward lo*icon - that gives me some old man vibes. <<less

Summary: Reincarnated/Time Travel MC that decides to change his path from dark/deadly/mu*derous to one built on friendships/brothers/love. In his previous life he struggled hard but only made it to a middle-strength cultivation. He had parts of a legendary sword that let him fight above his level, but still not enough to challenge an entire rank higher. Now he seeks to walk a better path and change not only his fate, but the fate of everything/everyone he loves.

Pros: Interesting story that is well written and well translated. Multiple characters that have... more>> some depth, though there are also a lot of filler characters. MC is only interested in one woman, even though other women do pursue him. Characters have opposing views and don't just immediately cave to the MC's way of thinking. Dialogue is good and the humor is mixed in well. MC does a bit of self-introspection and questions himself, and shows good development and progress. MC often uses his wits and cunning to overcome adversity, rather than brute strength. Enemies have depth and are not just evil villains, but instead have actual goals and morals that they struggle with.

Cons: There are some stretches with a bit too much info dump (names, events, history, etc). Some of the names are very hard to keep track of, with a lot of similar names that can be confusing. There is also a stretch of pe*verted MC that I didn't like but was able to overlook. There are some bits of plot armor, but not too often. <<less

Review of Ch.100.

This isn’t your standard xianxia plot. Yes, there is powering up. Yes there is a discovery of a treasure/skill/helper. Yes the MC is smarter and more powerful than his peers. Yes it has plot devices involving differing sects, internal conflict with fellow followers of the same sect. Yes, it has combat and a MC that talks to someone who is living inside of him.

Nie Li of Tale of Demons and Gods has a similar storyline: the MC dies tragically at the start of story, only to time-travel back... more>> before the road of future ruin began. Both MCs would then take advantage of their accumulated knowledge to change the future and of course, get the girl (again).

But what makes this stands out from other xianxia stories is the political intrigue. Not just the usual schemes of “you offended me so I’ll oppress your clan mwahaha”, but sinister plots hinted to involve toppling rival countries with assassinations and planting spies and traitors. Of course, this is just 100 chapters in, maybe the story will deviate to the “I’ll destroy your entire clan with this one move” or “I’m gonna cultivate so hard that I’m gonna be the next Taoist Jesus”.

Some characters are intriguing (Tie Bu Tian), but others are seemingly thrown aside due to the current translated plot (eg, Tan Tan who is supposed to be the MC’s best friend). Still others are underused like Wu Qian Qian who should have millions of questions for the MC when they finally met. To be fair, it’s still only 100 chapters in, which is why I’ll continue to read it. It has enough reasons to keep me hooked. <<less
