Xia Mian transformed into a troubled sixteen-year-old girl, but there was an extra little dumpling by her side. The child was obedient, sensible, and had a very high IQ, but unfortunately had a hard life. His mother was angered to death by his father’s mistress, and he himself was tormented by the mistress who become his new stepmother, suffering burns and disfigurement at a young age. Xia Mian also knew that the inhuman biological father and stepmother would exploit him for the sake of his half-brother, suppressing him, and condemning him to a life of darkness. His half-brother, on the other hand, enjoyed the glory that should have belonged to him.

Ouch! Xia Mian, who had a bad temper, declared: From today on, I will protect this baby!
Whatever others have, my baby will have too! Anyone who dares to bully him will be beaten to death!

Baby: I want the stamps my mom left me.
Xia Mian: Get them back!
Baby: I want that bottle.
Xia Mian: Buy it!
Baby: I want to buy that stock.
Xia Mian: ??? Buy!
Baby: I want to live in that house.
Xia Mian: !!! Buy!

Years later, the stamps’ value soared, the bottle became invaluable antique, the stock skyrocketed for ten consecutive limits, and the house was demolished…
Xia Mian: …I became a billionaire by spoiling a child.
Baby: I want that man.
Xia Mian: ???
Baby: He can barely be my uncle.
Xia Mian: Why?
Baby pondered for a long while: He’s super good at making money.

The MC is girl with maximum combat strength and a volatile temper, the kind who seeks revenge on the spot.

Wow, this novel is an absolute gem. Initially, I had some hesitations about reading it based on the summary, but once I started, I couldn't put it down. It's a captivating slice-of-life story that also sheds light on the corruption prevalent during the early stages and even today.

In one of the chapters, there's a brilliant portrayal of how the police often prioritize the wealthy, and the moments of face slapping are truly satisfying. It's definitely a worthwhile read, although some readers may find the age difference between the female lead... more>> (16) and the male lead (24, approximately) slightly unconventional. However, overall, it's a well-done story.

I was deeply moved during the orphanage arc, and the novel explores various other arcs that highlight the treatment of women in China during the early 90s. I admired the female lead's decision to become a teacher, and while the romance aspect is minimal and doesn't develop until the female lead graduates from high school, it doesn't detract from the overall quality.

Some readers might find it slightly frustrating when the female lead consistently assumes the male lead is gay. However, it's understandable given that changing people's opinions about someone can be challenging unless you truly know them. So, let's not blame the female lead for her initial thoughts.

Regarding the male lead, he simply took it as a joke and never felt the need to clarify or become upset about being perceived as gay. I appreciate his easygoing attitude in that regard.

In conclusion, this novel is a fantastic read that deserves your time. It touches on important themes, has engaging story arcs, and leaves a lasting impact. Highly recommended. <<less

I liked the romance and loved the characters in this novel. Though it starts with an aunt raising her nephew, that focus shifts when you get to around 2/3 of the story. The story then explores her school life, fighting bullies, dealing with bad relatives, falling in love, and improving their financial situation. The MC is a bright, playful, and logical people-person. The ML is also likable—playful and teasing, not the typical cold character. He makes things easy, allowing us to skip the boring aspects and focus on the fun... more>> parts. Friendship isn't the main focus, but it's touched upon. The ending was heartwarming and emotional, though it was a pity it ended with an open ending without full closure. Overall, I enjoyed reading it.

The other reviewer said there's the switched at birth trope. I can't remember if there really was. I think there's none of that. She is an orphan and her nephew has a dead mom and a soon-to-be-dead father. <<less

An excellent novel that has tropes that include slow build romance, cute children, rags to riches, tons of face-slapping, switched-at-birth and saving others. It also has aspects of slice of life and school life chapters.

Basically about our FL who transmigrates into a novel and saves her nephew who was ab*sed. She has to be smart to get her nephew out of a terrible situation and the first arc of the novel is about that.

Later on when she manages to save the boy, the story then goes on to the rags... more>> and riches trope where she and some of her distant family members move to start a new life at a different city. As our FL is still schooling, most of the business aspect is told through the efforts of the FL's aunt. Got more face slapping of money hungry relatives and some patriachial BS family.

Then as life goes on for FL and her family, it focuses on how the romance builds. There is an age gap of about 7 years I think? It's a bit vague. But FL was 22+ already before she transmigrates into a 17 year old. She was a teacher then and finished Uni if I'm not wrong. ML waited till FL finished school to officially pursue her. Initially FL thought ML was gay due to her novel knowledge but later on she finds out. The chemistry between the two leads is so GREAT! I love it. FL is mischievous and ML often banters with her too but he is super doting at the same time. They both have so many great scenes between them.

After they get together, the story focuses on other small arcs. Of FL who aims to be teacher helps rehabilitate her classmates and later on, her students. There is also an arc about painting and an orphanage for disable kids. This one made me cry. A lot of social commentary in this novel with the dreaded nationalism.

The extras are so fun too!! The kids grow up in the extras and find their significant others. My favourite is the extra about firey Huizhu and her secretly blackbellied suitor. She is slow on emotions regarding love so he tricks her to make her pursue him. She then realizes that she likes him before he then pursues her and says, "okay my turn now." A very cute extra.

This is the best part about the story, the side characters all have distinct personalities and stories. It is very fun to read.

The faceslapping is also always excellent!!!!

A great read. MTL is readable. <<less

It's incredible. An amazing not cliche but satisfying face slapping novel with wholesome family elements and very very witty leads. Also violence, but I live. It's fiction and the people that get beat up are people who YOU WISH YOU COULD BEAT UP IRL. If you have a fierce burning for justice with decently op leads who truly vennt your frustrations, this is your book.

The leads' banter is top notch. But I will say I do think once the romance gets into center focus, she does feel a little less... more>> smart. The MC is smart overall but at this moment. I'm like damn love. Also, you have to be a fan of teasing and OMG I AAM NOT. Tbh when he was. Annoying her, he was annoying me too....I know ppl love this but if the ML teased and annoyed Mee to the degree he did

I would have been like ok, I don't like you anymore. Leets keep our distance for real.

Idk maybe it's cause I can't see how hot he is irl, but no honey I have. A limit for that. For other ppl, you'll probably love this. In any case, thee leads are so funny and witty, smart (to maybe even a loophole op degree? I just accept that things go their way) but at the same time they argue tooth and nail and fight to win every time so it feelss SO SATISFYING. Like the rage in my heart has a place to be vented and a place for my heart to heal with the happy family. The leads have very specified and interesting personalities, esp the MC before the romance lol. Lmao it really has that charm of peak 2000s japanese teenage drama / anime fight scenes. So funny. And fun. Not cringe because the details are plenty enough are different enough. Although still funny lol

The novel is pretty cohesive, detailed, and exciting up until she goes to college, which we don't even see much of at all. Instead of an interwoven plot of various stories with a main focus progressing along that was happening throughout the novel, the last quarter of the novel feels less detailed on the main characters, the stories feel a bit rushed and not as cohesive (something iss missing idk), and overall the novel feels like multiple pages passing by my eyes without much emotional effect. So it's a bit weak compared to the rest of the novel.

This ending portion is so strange. It's the author's prerogative if they want to a positive social statement on

disabled orphans and orphanages... but why? Is it in the main story out. Of nowhere? It's my right as a reader to then criticize you for inserting a random ass plot point OUT OF NOWHERE. I understand that it's supposed to mirror the original MC's nephew's original ending as a poor disabled artist. But it is simply not clear enough imo, the connection. In fact I think it's quite different considering he didn't have any diseases other than being ab*sed and dying from the injuries like that.

Not to mention, helping this entire orphanage was not well foreshadowed through this novel. They literally just foreshadowed this plot the chapter before it happened.

The author chose to do that instead of idk focusing on writing about :

  • Her niece going on acting sets with her father
  • Her nephew making his own exhibition and donating proceeds to ab*sed children and their recovery (WHICH WOULD BE A CLEAR LINEE WHY he would do that
  • More scenes of the MC and ML dating (?) considering I mean have they really dated?
  • Chenchen as the original ML and finding out who is supposed to be the FL
  • The kids growing up orr something

This orphanage isn't the worst plot but do I feel like it was RANDOMLY

PLACED so the novel could end soon? Yes. I do. A bit annoying. The writing should have set that up better. Do you think that because they are orphans I will be emotionally interested instantly? No. Not because I'm heartless, but because the readers are not ignorant. It's not like readers have never read or known about orphans in their lives. But how can you make us care? By writing about them well and connecting them to us. (Don't be lazy. Orphans doesn't = instantly caring about what is written.) Did you do that author? Let's consider that in those 2 chapters and a half of jam-packed info and new characters. No. So thus this story has suffered from poor writing at the very end for this.

Personally I have read an entire OTHER novel based on this idea of orphans refusing donations bc they don't want to be treated like objects and be put on the news. So as cute as these last chapters are, it's much too sloppily done imo for me think much of it. The depth isn't there and the plot is random, especially considering the various other points we could have focused on.

I enjoyed the first part of this story when FL saved her nephew, reunited with family who loved her, had a completely platonic relationship with ML, and was working hard to provide her nephew with a better childhood and life. I loved FL’s relationship with her family, especially her nephew. All the familial relationships in this novel was actually quite nice and complex.

However, I absolutely hated the romantic aspect of this because what do you mean a full fledged *accomplished* doctor and business man fell in love with a 17-year... more>> old 😭🥴 and “waited” for her to turn legal age because she was “mature for her age” (she was still a college student in her past life & she mentioned she was studying to be a teacher — that would put her maybe 20-21, does not lessen the ick factor in my honest opinion). Sure, she knows she’s mentally “older” BUT HE DOES NOT. And I would have been more supportive of this romance if he had qualms about his feelings for a LITERAL MINOR and tried to kill those feelings off or didn’t act on it at all but he didn’t and just went straight to subtly pursuing her in a boiling frog in warm water kind of way (which I think is worse eww). He wasn’t even open to maybe waiting until she goes off to college and develops a frontal lobe. Nope, he was like hmm let’s just wait for you to graduate high school so no one thinks it’s weird hehe & even threw a tantrum when a guy HER AGE takes interest in her.

Ew not the kind of ML I like for any FLs. He would have been a nice brother figure, why does the “perfect” man in novels always have to be the ML and just make it weird. If he hadn’t been rich/handsome, everyone would think he’s a creepo but because he’s all that, they think it’s okay 🥴 <<less

Finally! Someone using violence to solve problems the right way! I stan the female lead! 😍 All children deserve a parent but not vice versa! Protect the nephew at all costs! Also the male lead isn't too bad for now I guess. He's not the same old boring cold rich heir cutout so that's good. Good translation.
Easy to follow story.
Satisfying retribution.

By far one of the best I've read of this genre~

The plot is simple and light (tho with some heavy issues) .. With not much drama and some light-hearted humour.

Spoiler

Romance is also sweet and fluffy and sweet~ I love all the good characters here! FL is also very clever and fun.. ML is a genius who knows and goes after his own heart. Both are real treasure~

This era was when many novel focus on getting rich. But here, even though they have that element, it's not the true focus. Other elements such as education, entertainment, develoment, and family reconcilation are also included.

The 2nd gen (nephews n nieces n their friends - which also hv the real ML & FL of the original novel) also have sweet stories of their own in the extra. Very nice!

All in all, I truly enjoyed reading the novel. Definitely recommended to all 🌈🌷 <<less

4.3 / 5 ⭐

I love it. Everything was soooo good but I had to drop my rate right at the end because the ending didn't satisfy me. It was a happy ending but I was hoping for more? (I'll explain it in the looong spoiler-not-so-spoiler).

The translaor did a great job but because I can't wait for it, I MTL it myself...

So the story started with MC reincarnated as the aunty of the tragic ML supporting character. The first 50 chapters were full of dramas. It was actually kinda tiring... more>> because the "bad people" keep appearing one after another. Fortunately the MC is so likeable and funny so I can't stop reading it! She's undoubtedly one of my most favorite FMC in Chinese novels.

The last 100 chapters are more enjoyable with less drama. Her families are just so fun and wonderful (excluding the annoying uncle).

I've to warn some people tho, the FMC and ML started to "confess" to each other when MC was still a 3rd year high school student (a year younger than the legal age) while ML was already a 23-25 yo researcher doctor, they have about 5-7 age difference. BUT! They'll only officially dating when she's a legal adult, a year later. Everything was so smooth so you wont feel it's forced? They're just naturally falls for each other (slow romance) so I can't really complaint... They're loveable.

Now... what I want to complaint and the reason why this amazing read only got a 4.3 ⭐from me:

Spoiler

you see, the FMC & ML knew each other since FL was still 16 years old. They started to aware of their love for each other when FL was 18 and started dating at 19 yo.

ML can be said already an "old" bachelor during those time back then so they planned to married as soon as possible but well he had to wait for another year for FL to reach the leagal age for woman to marry (different from legal age standard). Now when she's already 20, they suddenly realized a college student can't have marriage! Taraaa~ ML have to wait for another 3 years! He's so devastated and I AM TOO?! He was so excited and already prepared for the wedding...

In this novel FMC realizing some of the real life logic didn't work (about some modern knowledge already part of the story) but somehow this ban about marriage was not part of the logic... I felt so bad for the ML.

That's not all. Later, her cousins married first, it was fun marriage and when I reading that part I was so hopeful and already daydreaming about MC's wedding! But! The story changed, focused on the story of orphanage childrens, it was a sad truth story and I knew it was an important part of the story but somehow I feel like the romance has cooled down. I thought, well maybe the author would build up the romance again on later chapter. I WAS WRONG! The novel ended there! No wedding for the FMC & ML! I was waiting for it, ok?! I was like, "The author ended the story just like that? Where's my CP?!" This was supposed to be one of my favorite novel, ok?! I was so heartbroken and hoping for extra chapters...

[collapse]

Nevertheless I can say that this novel is one of the best "BACK TO ——" novels on Novelupdates. I know this novel would become popular later! <<less

I LOVE THIS.

Finished reading this on mtl for 2 days. I laughed from the antics and bickering of the ML and MC. I cried buckets on the orphanage arc, and felt warmth from the family dynamics and swooned on the romance.

Very good novel. I really liked the male and female lead interactions. They are not like other leads, where male lead is cold and only smiled in front of female lead, here although male lead is a bit cold to other is still good and banter with other and play with children. Female lead also knows how to use her brain and not only her fist. The Villans also not easy to defeat and she had to scheme quite a bit to get her nephew out from her brother-in-law grasp.

Even... more>> the side characters are not plain and have their own story.

It is really a good novel. Definitely recommended for reading. <<less

It’s decent. Quite a number of funny scenes. I like the development of the romance between MC and ML. Both of their characters were quite fleshed out. And MC changed as the story progressed. Which makes sense since she grew up a bit.

I will say tho that the story did fall short at times in terms of plot. There were definitely arcs to the story as it focused on each plot line. But from the summary, I expected more of a focus just on MC and her nephew. But they... more>> were just part of the story. This novel read more as a long family drama type of story with romance between MC and ML. But I was expecting more of MC raising her nephew and becoming wealthy through various coincidental occurrences. So I am a bit disappointed. Also the ending was rather abrupt. <<less

It's alright so far. The writing and translation are fine, nothing too amazing, but there aren't any terrible errors either. My only complaint so far is that reading about past Chinese culture gives me brain damage from all the misogyny, sexism, and general terribleness of the people. I understand it's to give the protagonist obstacles and stir up drama, but when it seems like every other person is garbage I just need to rest my eyes.

This novel was so good until I don't know which aspect should I praise first.

  • The revenge and face slapping were so satisfying to read. MC didn't always rely on her fist to solve the problem. In fact, she was quite eloquent and could anger her enemy to death or render them speechless.
  • The villains weren't the a brainless type and in the beginning, MC even had a hard time to defeat one of her enemy, that was: Xiao Feng's s*um father.
  • The romance between MC and ML progressed naturally, from frenemy to lovers.
    Spoiler

They dated after MC graduated from high school

    [collapse]
  • The side characters were also well-written and MC change several character's fate based on the original story
  • MC's interaction with Xiao Feng was so heartwarming although Xiao Feng didn't always be the center of the story
  • The way MC teached the problematic students were so refreshing and out of the box until I also want to have a teacher like her
In short, this is one of the best transmigration story that I've ever read so far.

Now I'll come to my actual review.

So it's a good novel if you are looking to just pass on the time. It's pretty interesting because there is always something going on which can keep you hooked for the next chapter.

But at the same time this is the exact reason I also don't like this novel because someone (low level villains) or something always keeps popping up. One thing I don't like is that it seems all the villains have low IQ and the heroine is all powerful and can always come off as the smartest and the most beautiful and the best one. Infact, that is also nice at first. But as I read further and further I realised that this FMC reminds me of something and that is MARY SUE. However, I'll say that the story is very well written and also makes the Mary sue-ness very covert so it takes some time to realize it.

The hero is pretty interesting too just like all powerful male protagonist that doesn't have any flaws. One thing I'd like to point out that the author didn't have any pov from male protagonist before the romance arc started (i.e we don't know when he fell in love, why fell in love, where fell in love) he's just suddenly in deep love with the FMC and then he gets a pov. And I am not saying that she's not lovable but there should be more details on male protagonist's thoughts and emotional journey.

Another point is that some side character just appeared and disappeared after a while. But when they were being written about too many details were given about them so I thought they must play some role further ahead in the story but I think the author just dumped them after that cuz they couldn't find any good entry point for these characters further in the plot. The same is for some of the plots which seems to be hinting at future development but ultimately nothing's come out of it.

While these problems are there, but what I am particularly shocked about is that there seems to be no mention of emotions on the FMC part about her previous life before transmigration. Although her previous life was convinently used whenever there was a chance to explain all her talents, there is absolutely no mention of emotions for her previous life's family and friends even though she's shown as quite emotional regarding people in this life... I just can't understand this since her transmigration is supposed to be sudden and not anything like at after dying at an old age. Also no mention is made about the original owner of the aunt's body after a little bit at the beginning. Where did she go after FMC appeared at her place? No explanation. This point also takes me to the problem I mentioned before about some plot being hinted at but ultimately not being written about, Because the very powerful and smart male protoginst is shown to have doubted about the origins of some of FMC modern knowledge at many instances and is also used by the FMC as a cover for her modern knowledge right in front of his eyes. But we see no plot about her confession about her transmigration to the male protagonist, and nor does he ask her about it. Maybe not making these things clear is just my dislike but this is a novel so we are allowed to have subjective dislikes.

Another thing mentioned by other readers is that the romance is abruptly toned down when we are invested in reading further. I agree with that and even I'd like to add that the romance even appears suddenly not to mention disappearing suddenly.

For the age gap: I don think it matters because the FMC real age should be closer or even the same as the male protagonist's age. The age difference is coming from the aunt's body the FMC occupied and is not FMC 's real age. <<less

If you have anger issues (like me) or enjoys a well-deserved tr*shing of the antagonists, you'll adore this MC. As for the side characters, some of them are infuriating right off the start and ths others are more like the side helpings for the MC although she could put up a good fight by herself. The ML is quite powerful, too, but personally I don't enjoy their romance.

Eventually, after all is said and done, I'd admit that I'm quite tired of the endless drama. I'm one-third into the story and... more>> it seems like they'd never catch a break. <<less

As long as you remember this is a fantasy novel, no even more - a chinese fantasy novel, this is very enjoyable. It's lighthearted and silly and the bad guys constantly get their comeuppance. It's not realistic in any way and shouldn't be read like a serious novel. The "dumpling" is very, very cute and his "aunt", the fl, is so likeable in how she protects a child that she just met.

All in all, this is an easy read for a relaxing day.

The FL is a professional face-slapper and does it quite often, so, that's what pushed this novel from 3.5 stars to 4. It was very funny, often heart-wrenching, but mostly it showed that there's still hope even after one has gone through trauma. I really liked the family atmosphere and the romance was a nice slow-burn.
