Transmigrating into the Reborn Male Lead’s Ex-Boyfriend

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

Song Xuanhe transmigrated into a book called “The President’s Seven Boyfriends”. He became the President’s cannon fodder ex-boyfriend, Song Xuanhe.

The Song Xuanhe in the book: 180 cm tall, so attractive he would trump over even the hottest celebrities, three generations of family in business–a very appropriate rich third generation.

It wasn’t a loss to transmigrate into this kind of person. It was just that this was a rebirth story.

The Song Xuanhe in the book ab*sed the male lead 800 times and had even indirectly caused the male lead’s death. Faced with the reborn blackened male lead, his fate was obvious–not only did he reach rock bottom, he even died without an intact corpse.

Right now, he had become the cannon fodder ex-boyfriend that was foreordained to die without an intact corpse.

—–

System: Don’t you think that the male lead has been a bit strange recently? It’s like he’s plotting something in the dark.

Song Xuanhe: Plotting how to kill me?

System: No, plotting how to eat you.

—–

Song Xuanhe, who was lying on the bed with an aching waist, pained back and legs suffering from cramps, cursed the System 800 times–what happened to the male lead being a shou?!

Emphasis: Xiao Yuanmu is the gong! Xiao Yuanmu is the gong! Xiao Yuanmu is the gong! Moreover, the big shot has always been a gong! Spoilers only up to here!

The story is quite good. Although it may seems unappealing at first and some may feel disturbed by MC being forced to do the plot, it's actually not as bad as it looks like.

The MC (Song Xuanhe/Shou) and ML (Xiao Yuanmu/Gong) relationship is a whole green field later on, even though at the first story part it may looked like a toxic one.

The side characters are well written, especially MC's close friends (esp zhao nan) and ML's subordinates (esp louis).

The system is mostly useless but it's a good system, the... more>> ending actually make me cry (idk if it's because I'm currently emotional or what)

Spoiler

basically ML has a disease for being rebirth 2 times where all of his organs are experiencing failure (this take place after the xiao family has been dealt and MC decided to stay with ml). MC ask the system for help then tell everything about his transmigration and other world to ML, in where he want MC to go back to his world since he only has a month left. MC then decided to use the system item that give half of his life to ML, but after using the item MC felt no pain. The system completely disappeared after saying it likes having MC as its host.

In the side story the system reincarnated to a cat name er shun (they found it inside ml's orphanage room), both MC and ML are probably going to bring it home.

The story is kind of a roller coaster, the climax story also give me some sad impression even though this is a happy ending (prob bcs of the system), overall this story is

BEWARE of SPOILER

Song Xuanhe transmigrated into a book called “The President’s Seven Boyfriends”. He became the President’s cannon fodder ex-boyfriend, Song Xuanhe. In the original, Song Xuanhe ab*sed the male lead but, his life ended tragically when the male lead retaliated. In this life, Song Xuanhe still has to follow the original plot if he wants to return to his real world. What Song Xuanhe did not expect was that the male lead, Xiao Yuanmu, was reborn.

I gave it full stars mainly because the story was entertaining albeit a bit... more>> dragging in the second half and ended abruptly. I just like the story where the person who should be the shou in the original, flipped and became the gong instead. <<less

It was hard to drop this because I was seriously hoping for more to happen. If I could describe the experience I had it would be like Tomato Sauce that hasn't been reheated, pudding that hasn't set, coke without the frizz.

I still have no Idea what even the xiao family's business is nor have the leads actually communicated

Even the faceslapping was.. Boring Because MC never seemed to experience any real struggle. The "Angst" I was promised barely tickled me tbh.

I really liked it up to a certain section at which the character development just got wasted

the car accident after ML is "reborn" After which I really felt disappointed because the development up to that event already took ages

it would be fine if the schemes or the character interactions or events gave some gratification but they failed to do so for me. And the always hinting at explanations and then getting smth that's not an explanation was frustrating.

It was an interesting story. Sometimes I like reading romance novels like this. It really makes me feel like I do and don't understand what it means to be in love at all.

In summary, it's a transmigrator vs. Reincarnator romance novel with a few twists. MC and ML are both quite willful, with overbearing attitudes and unwillingness to explain themselves that makes them difficult to communicate with. It makes you wonder sometimes why anyone would want to be friends with them haha. The tacit understanding they develop for each other... more>> over the course of the novel is interesting. I can't decide if I think it's realistic or not, or whether that even matters.

Their miscommunications (both deliberate and not) as well as the "political" intrigue present enough obstacles to keep an interesting suspense for the story. That said, it's not a psychological thriller of any sort, so don't go into this expecting to need to use your brain a whole lot.

Considerations before reading:

Spoiler
  • Cannon fodder characters really behave like cannon fodder characters, it's clear to see who you're supposed to side with and who you should find in the wrong / annoying right from the start. Can be a little simplistic and annoying, so if this kind of formulaic writing really bothers you, this may detract from your reading experience.
  • In the original plot, "Song Xuanhe" did a lot of really scummy things. As the transmigrator, MC is forced to act out a lot of these scenes, including blackmailing the ML into a relationship and agreeing to "give away" the ML to someone else. While these misunderstandings are resolved in the end, it can be difficult to read about the MC going through these acts.
  • As you may have figured out, this novel relies quite a lot on coincidence and misunderstanding, especially at the beginning, when it is walking the tightrope between enmity and attraction between the MC and ML.
  • This novel features a fair amount of "face slapping" that some may even call excessive. Personally, I find it a little tiresome to see people crush others through money and status. That's the sort of thing you call scummy when the enemy does it; I'm willing to call it funny the first time, but it doesn't make it better just because the MC does it. That said, it's within a tolerable range, at least for me.
  • As with a lot of CN novels, disablement / disfigurement / addiction / etc. Are sometimes used rather lightly as a "just" punishment for villainous characters.
[collapse]

I enjoyed the insights into the MC's character and occasional self-destructive habits, as well as the things that he finds important to protect. I wish that the end of the novel had spent more time on MC's relationship to his new family, and followed up a little bit with his mysterious childhood memory.

That said, I was satisfied with the ending, purely because of the epilogues. I decided to write this review just so that I could say this: If for nothing else, all 150+ chapters were completely worth reading, purely for Side Story 1 and Side Story 2, which -- despite not focusing on the MC or ML at all -- made me cry.

For those of you who enjoy the romance genre, I hope you will give this story a chance. <<less

I have two main frustrations:

1) The MC is unnecessarily mean. The author tries to have the typical "transmigrator faceslapping people who have wronged him" scenes, but they don't even explain how the MC has been wronged. ... more>>
Spoiler

In the previous few chapters, MC shows up to crash his cousin's business launch celebration party, and publicly humiliates his cousin in front of everyone. It's implied that there is a reason, but it's never explained, so all we get is the MC being rude for no reason to someone who's actually reacting reasonably.

[collapse]

2) This might just be me overthinking it, but it kind of feels like... idk, the author has some disdain for poor people? It feels ridiculous to say, but within the past few chapters I've seen two instances, one where
Spoiler

MC's cousin gives his 'sad backstory' about being poor compared to MC, and then MC humiliates him for no reason, and this is portrayed as justified. Then right after, MC's cousin is portrayed as engaging in shady behaviour (like maybe he deserved his poor origins??)

[collapse]

Then within the same setting, we have
Spoiler

a poor waiter who's begging the ML to let him keep his job because the waiter has a sick younger brother that he needs to provide for, and the ML is just standing there with a cold expression and not saying anything. But then in the same scene, it's revealed that the waiter 'didn't apologise properly' and "Simply apologising for ruining someone's clothes really didn't have any sincerity to it. No wonder Xiao Yuanmu (ML) hadn't paid attention to him." The 'proper' behaviour was the waiter bowing ninety degrees (which is practically the most formal bow you can do) and offering to change the ML's clothes for him.

[collapse]
I just feel like the poor characters describing their poor circumstances and then being revealed to lack morals in the same breath implies something like, you don't need to feel bad for them because they're actually bad people. Meanwhile all of our main cast are rich young masters who have never done anything to earn their wealth and have the exact same moral character, yet they are portrayed as funny and powerful and cool.

Also, I dislike how we spend 30 chapters seeing the relationship develop between the MC and ML, and then suddenly
Spoiler

the ML that we've seen fall for MC gets essentially replaced by his reborn version. It resets their relationship almost back to zero, so what was the point of the first 30 chapters then??

[collapse]
It feels like a waste of time.

The translation is good, but I think I'm just going to drop this. <<less

I enjoyed the cute translator/editor notes at the end of every chapter more than the chapters itself..

A sign I should have stopped much earlier, honestly!

I'm genuinely too exhausted to read beyond ch130 which, coincidentally, is where other reviewers recommend we skip to. I really did love our MC and ML but it's at a point where I'd rather stop and rest my brain than witness their happy ending together.

A few novel quirks I disliked:

    • Some chapters end on a cliffhanger. Permanently. Bits and pieces are revealed in later chapters but in a fashion that disrupts reading flow (e.g. As flashbacks that leave readers confused over when it occurred. Some commenters had to backtrack thinking they missed something).
    • Convenient "by-the-way"s that honestly don't add much and would be better omitted/conveyed differently (e.g.
      Spoiler

the system suddenly having a character danger-ranking to reinforce how strong and edgy MC is. Or the system suddenly having the ability to predict MC would be 34.5%?? Happier in the novel-world, thereby causing MC to waver.

      [collapse]
    • Flimsy explanations for derailments (e.g.
      Spoiler

      our lively MC turning
very cold and obstinate mid-novel. Several chapters later, his friend comments on the change and concludes that lovers really do become more like each other, despite MC and ML having fallen out of touch. More characters continue to mention how MC is becoming more like ML. It's as if the author realized too late how differently MC was portrayed and just rolled with it.)

      [collapse]
    • Lots of MC introspection! It takes up the bulk of some chapters but it's wordy, repetitive, and honestly leads to no change or even attempt to change.
It's really just how the novel is structured that gives me a headache. The overall plot is fine! I do wish I could have enjoyed it more.

This is a slow burn of a story. Like, frustrating at times slow. It's not till after ch 120ish that you start getting fluffy and sweet moments. There is also a dog.

The cast of characters is so large that at one point, there was a link to character chart. I also checked in the comments for some help every now and then.

The development of the ML and MC, both as individuals and as a couple moves at a snail's pace. It's hard to track why and when they have feelings... more>> for eachother. It feels like things have been left unsaid along the way.

The both, but mostly the MC make decisions and choices that I found difficult to understand at the time, but as the story developed and memories of previous life's were revealed, came to make some sense. Although some just make you want to ask why?

I think this is a story that if you decide to read, you need to commit to. This isn't one that you can read a couple chapters here and there while also reading other stories. This is one that has parts that feel like they are dragging, but then later give you the reason or understanding of why.

There are a lot of flashes and ripples in the eyes as ways to try to show feelings and reactions since the main couple are both cold and hard to read. They also seem to have an understanding of eachother that the author forgets to share with us, so it has an almost voyeuristic element to it. You are reading a story that feels like it should have a companion book that has explanations and details and internal dialogue that would help.

This is a story that you have to persevere with. There were a few times where I considered dropping it because I was bored or annoyed, but I felt drawn to the characters enough that I wanted to know more and I think hanging around paid off. Atleast so far. If the ending sucks.... well, will not be impressed.

This has low level spice. There are kissing descriptions only. <<less

As people say, this is a slowburn novel. At first I was hesitant to pick this one but later I just fall in love with the novel and with the characters.

MC~~

MC at first was like a aloof kinda guy. There were time I felt really annoying about him but I just adjust it. He is op kinda MC. It took a long time for him to fall in love with the ML. He just did all kinda s*upid things in beginning and in the middle of this movel.

ML~~

I LOVE HIM!! Can you believe it that... more>>

The concept of the plot is pretty interesting. Usually, transmigrator novels are all about the MC trying to change their fate, but in this case MC really has to follow the major plot points or else he dies. The System here is also refreshing, it seems to genuinely want to help out MC while also doing it's job. They still snip at each other, but they seem to be in harmony. Post finish edit: I love the system and I'm now very sad bc of the extras, noone touch me... more>> rn im fragile

The actual plot is not that unique. MC gets transmigrated into a shitty canon fodder ex, changes his image to be better, and attracts the ML. Still, the author is good at writing so the story isn't bad. There are no glaring plotholes, OOC characters, or bland and excessive narration/dialogue. With regards to side characters, there's 2 ways to make them interesting- flesh them out so thoroughly that it feels like they're just crossover main characters from a different novel, or make them only show up when necessary but make them entertaining/contribute to the plot when they do. In this novel, it's the latter.

There's a very big plot point that happens early on that isn't mentioned in the summary, which actually disappointed me a bit.

Spoiler

Rather than being reborn, ML transmigrated from the end of the original book to the current timeline/universe. Pre-rebirth, the CP scenes were so cute and it felt like they were going in the "cold ML softens around the misunderstood MC and dotes on MC until they become coaxed into liking ML too" direction, and I also got attached to that version of ML. Post-rebirth, it turned into enemies-to-lovers instead. There's still sweet CP scenes, but none of the innocent "ML had a hard life but becomes attached to MC after being shown some sweetness" or "ML thinks MC's reactions are cute and ends up spoiling MC" stuff from before! And my sweet pre-rebirth MuMu is gone!! I want justice!!!

[collapse]

I haven't finished, so maybe my review will change later, but so far I definitely think it's worth 5 stars, 4 at least. <<less

This story was interesting. The MLxMC build up feelings despite the foundation being built knowingly on sand. The MC knows that the protagonist will inevitably blacken once he is reborn so they have no future, yet he can't help but try to save the ML. On the other hand, the ML can sense his resistant attitude and even suspects the MC might just disappear one day considering how different he is from his previous live (s).

The side characters are also flushed out, including the suitors of both parties. Tbh, some... more>> of the suitors are tragic, some get a happy ending, and the others I hold no sympathy for at all. MC was very cruel to his own suitor, but I suspect it was less cruel than giving her hope. She was finally able to make a clean break and move on with her life. This is probably the best ending for her. Reflection on the Ending

Spoiler

Things get very dramatic as the ML's father points out that the MC can't give him an heir and the ML starts disappearing for long periods of time. In fact, the ML doesn't care about the issue of an heir. This is just a red herring by the author. Turns out the ML has come down with a sudden terminal illness that even the system has trouble identifying. The MC and the system are able to save the ML at the last minute with an item from the system store. Supposedly the MC is dividing his soul in half to share with the ML.

I suspect that Z48 instead sacrificed itself to protect his friend. There are a few clues to support this. MC was supposed to experience a lot of pain which does not happen. The words as the system wishes them happiness as it fades away sound very final. A star in the sky goes out, most likely representing the system either leaving injured or being destroyed.

The novel is excellent, far superior to my expectations. Although I'm not a big fan of slow burns, I really enjoyed this one. And, yes, this is a slowburn, so if you don't like that sort of thing, this isn't for you. But I really liked it; the growth of both ML and MC separately and together was nice and refreshing. When they finally got together, it was even more satisfying.

For those who want to know when that is:

Spoiler

They got together at the end, specifically in Chapter 131. Although it's not literally at the end, it's more leaning towards the end.

•MC

-I really liked his character. Many people dislike his 'coldness' and 'indifference, ' but it's difficult to blame him. If he doesn't do it, he'll die, and you wouldn't want that to happen to you if you were in his situation, would you?

-I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the MC is a fashion designer; this is probably due to the fact that I don't read many transmigration novels, but this was my first time reading a novel with a designer MC.

-If I had to describe him, I'd say 'sly' and 'cunning.' He's a really smart character who I adore; he's also self-sufficient and doesn't bother trying to please others if he doesn't have to.

•ML

-I was skeptical of him at first, but as time passed, I grew to love him more and more.
Spoiler

Although I was a bit sad to learn that his pre-rebirth self wouldn't be returning, but I also really liked his post-rebirth self.

[collapse]

-In some ways, he's similar to the protagonist. He's sharp and intelligent, and he can easily read people. I like how he just doesn't want to interact with anyone; it's a bit amusing. I'm not usually a fan of cold and ruthless male leads, but he's an exception. He's gentle with the MC, well, sometimes not, but mostly he is; he just doesn't show it in the early chapters, but he does from the middle to the end.

•Romance

-As I previously stated, this is a slowburn, not a really slow one, but also not a fast one; the pacing was good. I like how ML and MC are both independent and dependent on each other. It's not one of those stories where they both/one of them don't rely on the other person, resulting in a lack of communication, or when they both/one of them rely on the other person so much that they can't stand up for themselves in any way. The chemistry is also excellent.

•Side Characters

-Some of them are just random useless background characters, but others are very memorable. We don't get much in-depth writing, but they don't skimp on some characters' backstories and descriptions. Each has their own story and set of circumstances.

•Overall Rating - 4.5/5 (The star review isn't accurate but it's close to 5 stars so I just clicked that)

-The world building and plot are excellent. In my opinion, it's good enough to waste time reading. All of the characters are fantastic, and the story was enjoyable to read. Unquestionably recommended. <<less

I have a weakness for the Tall, Cold and Handsome that are tsunderes but it's was a bigger blessing to see more of himself under that troupe. It sounded really fun but in the end it was a rather long and annoying story.

So MC transmigrates into that unfinished book and is in the body of one of the antagonists. Basically that host was cruel to the ML that is also the lead in that book and even blackmailed the ML into a relationship just to give him away later to a business partner. Then that ML gets reborn after an car accident. Our MC has to reenact all the major happenings of his hosts charakter or he... more>> dies.

Our ML is indeed reborn but not as our MC thinks.... this one is reborn a second time and there are some real differences...

So even this short summary annoys me... they are dancing around for like the whole effing book. From the rather start its obviousthat MC likes ML but nooooo he has to be ambiguous until the last two chapters. The flow of this story made me really mad. Even those one or two events that were foreshadowed like crazy were climaxed to nothing in the end. That highly anticipated tea party? Done in not even half a chapter without any major happenings. And at the end a poorly written cramped in life and death drama cropping up and resolved in 2 chapters.....

When I think about it, my 3 stars might be too high a rating.

Don't recommend..... safe your time. <<less

Finished the raws. You can honestly read that the author’s writing isn’t super fluent or mature, and there are quite of confusing parts or plot holes too. But this kind of romance is what I really like. Although the drama in the middle was really weird for me to read, in the end, their relationship was what I look for in a couple: harmony, patience and trust. It’s a nice part of the story, and the characters do have some depth to them. I did enjoy the novel for the... more>> most part. The deducted star was for the so-so plot which isn’t really particularly special or interesting, and also for some of the places in the plot and romance where it was weird (and maybe also because the authors writing style isn’t that developed yet).

It’s honestly slow for a romance, and the plot wasn’t really that good, but I liked the MC and ML’s relationship and the characters. I’d recommend it if you don’t mind a really slow romance and a more romance focused novel. <<less

i’d say that this is one of the better transmigration novels that I've read... the problem I usually see from this sub-genre is the ending and how the author ties the loose ends and addresses the various parts that need addressing, and I think the author did these things nicely... if you’re planning to read this, note that this is a slow burn and there were parts that felt frustrating as well but overall it was quite decent; not the fluffiest but the MC and the ML had a lot... more>> of sweet interaction that was fairly satisfying <<less

This was an enjoyable read for me. Though the scenes in the end were a bit off-putting, but I didn't mind that. This was a cute, slow-burn romance where they started being wary of each other but eventually warmed up.

It also wasn't something you'd get simply by reading and connecting the dots.

There were also scenes which made it seem like there's a dark background story about it that contributed to the characters' trauma, but then it wasn't expounded any where in the book. For instance,

that part when MC was avoiding being touched after meeting with that actress, and ML deduced that he was probably forcibly touched in the past. Or when MC's cousin locked ML in a room full of snakes.

Anyway, the system was also inconsistent at times. Though I know it's for the plot

The MC did question the system about it though, but the answer wasn't memorable for me, so I think that was a weak cover-up.

I love this. This has many readers on the site chrysanthemum garden. One of the novels I read with comments on that site that reached 100+ on chapters. Mostly readers from that site are silent readers so if it isn't any noteworthy, they wouldn't comment on it.

This novel is good. Worthy of sleep deprivation and procrastination. I don't really consider this a slow burn because the progress of their relationship is fitting to the plot and their character. (I only consider novels as slow burn if both characters love one... more>> another but doesn't act on it for the dramatics)

At first it gave me modern s*um villain vibes and then the flavor of the novel starts seeping out. The MC's character is... I don't know, my limited vocabulary can't explain him. He's good hearted, and I love that the author really explains his emotions. He's cool, not cold, but cool. Despite being in a villain's body, he respects the owner of the body.

This novel is remarkable for me and one the best novels I've read in 2021.

When I didn't know how to navigate in this site, I somehow managed to find this one and I feel extremely lucky to read it when I was a beginner; if I had read other transmigration novels before, maybe I would've ignored it because of its name, thinking it's cliche. I'm glad I did not.

A nice read! MC has major restrictions on himself; he can change his character's fate a bit but he HAS to keep the novel's storyline same. MC isn't overly interested... more>> in faceslappings but he does not hold back and plans throughly when someone else attacks him.

I like the relationship between MC and ML, it's too slow and MC keeps denying his feelings to the point I want to maul him like a feral dog but eh I also like to suffer.

ML's brain will turn into mush at this rate, let's pray for him girls. <<less

Overall: 3, maybe 3.5.

The prose is actually well written and translated, with some entertaining plotlines; however, the personalities of both MC and ML detract rather than add to the story. Put bluntly, they're both a**holes.

Story: MC transmigrates into an arrogant Young Master who forced ML into a relationship and will die immediately if he fails to follow the story's script. It is entertaining to read how MC attempts to alter his interactions with ML (where key plotlines cannot be avoided and MC has to say each grave-digging line word for... more>> word), to the point where deviations add up and MC then has more flexibility in acting how he wants. A lot of societal scheming and backstabbing within MC's own family as well as in relation to the other members of Chinese modern high society. It can be expected that MC will always end up on top. The arcs do get repetitive (could honestly skip the middle 50 few chapters), but action builds up again after MC and ML separate.

MC: A rich Young Master in his original life, MC transmigrates into the presumed s*um gong (lol) that tormented ML when the latter had yet to establish himself as a talented individual or discover his birthrights. After the transmigration, MC is less pig-headed than the original host and makes connections to some very influential peers. One new friend consistently states that MC has changed for the better, but it seems that MC is now just a regular arrogant douchebag rather than overt scum. He's rude to strangers and his new friends alike. Would not want to be friends with someone like him in reality.

ML: The actual gong. His intermittent spouts of extreme jealousy towards MC are like throwing a bone to the reader to keep interest in their relationship. Otherwise, ML is fairly one dimensional under the pretense of being very cold but very good looking. He mostly poses silently during his scenes because everyone else is below his notice, and readers are later told rather than shown that he is a talented and clever entrepreneur.

Relationship: For chapters on chapters, you're enthusiastically rooting for MC's and ML's relationship to progress the tiniest bit despite one misunderstanding after another and then suddenly, bam, the lofty ML suddenly realizes his feelings to MC and now you're suffering from whiplash because of ML's epiphany. It just seems like the progression from enemies (where ML hates MC scene after scene) to not enemies (specifically referring to ML realizing he likes MC) should be more natural. There's more actual romantic relationship development starting chapter ~90.

Commentary: Again, the personalities of MC and ML are the major detractions to this work. Maybe this is just how this setting is supposed to be? Reflecting the arrogant third/fourth+ generation born into these rich families? Either way, not my type of protagonist (and I do like arrogant characters... just not a**holes). That said, I'm still probably going to finish the work as the translation is pretty good. <<less

One thing I can say is that, the story is quite well written. The storyline is smooth and the pressure isn't too bad.

Although the plot is fine, I don't quite like the characters. Almost all of them are annoying at some point, especially the protagonists. Maybe it's just me but I think they're too arrogant and just treat people based on their interest. And for me, that's just plain rude. Even if they're smart and all, and has a sense of righteous in their hearts, I don't think that qualified... more>> them to thunk they're above others or something. But that's just about it. Other than that, everything's fine. <<less
