The heroine of this story had to be her! She would not give Ling Shuang even a slight chance to go near her husband! But of course, she had to keep this secret from Shen Yichong.
everyone is hating on the the original Yu Yao Yao and pitying Shen Yichong, it's pretty much one sided. I don't hate her too much, and Shen isn't completely blameless either. It was mentioned that the original Yao Yao suffered from post partum depression (which may or may not have been treated) and then she didn't even went out for the entire 5 years of marriage. Even if she is slow and s*upid, she can't be THAT slow and s*upid to just listen to her evil step sister and take the pills (even for fake su*cide which it's not, she legit took pills to die). She must have been really desperate and suffering by that point to agree to end it all. I'm not saying it excuses her behavior to Rui bun but still, there's a reason for her behavior. Shen is aware but still expects her to be someone she's not. He knows they are not in love (their marriage is like a business transaction to save her dad's business). He only got interested, treated her better and gave her things willingly when she became agreeable and almost pandering to his good graces.
