T*ash of the Count’s Family

When I opened my eyes, I was inside a novel.

[The Birth of a Hero].

[The Birth of a Hero] was a novel focused on the adventures of the main character, Choi Han, a high school boy who was transported to a different dimension from Earth, along with the birth of the numerous heroes of the continent.

I became a part of that novel as the tr*sh of the Count’s family, the family that oversaw the territory where the first village that Choi Han visits is located.

The problem is that Choi Han becomes twisted after that village, and everyone in it, is destroyed by assassins.

The bigger problem is the fact that this s*upid tr*sh who I’ve become doesn’t know about what happened in the village and messes with Choi Han, only to get beaten to a pulp.

“…This is going to be a headache.”

I feel like something serious has happened to me.

But it was worth trying to make this my new life.

Story gets much better over time I wasn't really hooked in the beginning parts of the story but after a while I fell in love with the story and the characters. I would say give it about 50 chapters for you to like it if you don't like it by then just drop it if you don't want to waste anymore time. This is not a story with any type of romance in it so if that's one reason you choose to read this you will be disappointed also you... more>> may get frustrated with the MC not wanting to get more powerfully in the beginning but that will change over time. <<less

Cool, magnificent, exciting, interesting, wonderful, I love this novel everything in it is super wonderful.

The story is cool it's not like the other transmigration novel where the MC only uses the information of the novel to survive instead this novel shows the the MC doesn't only try to survive but instead he try to live in this new world furthermore this MC Is actually quite old when he transmigrated he was 36 because most of the characters transmigrate when they are 21 or 30 yees old at max and he... more>> is also quite cunning and shrewd and extremely intelligent.

The characters in this novel are also super cool. This novel does not only focus in the MC growth but it also focus on all of the other characters growth. And the setting of the world is also quite detailed it seems as if it's a true place that truly exists.

Anyways it's quite a formidable story I recommend it.

Transtor-nim please keep up the hard work and translate the rest please hurry up I can't wait please I beg you hurry up and finish translating thank uuu so much <<less

(Please forgive my English, which is not my original language)

Beautiful, sublime, wonderful, addictive and a great etcetera to describe this novel

It is impossible to hate any of the characters, especially Cale, I will not say that the personality construct is unique and innovative, but the author definitely knows how to handle it.

You will find everything in this novel, sweet, sad and funny moments (Keep in mind that there is NO romance in this novel, that does not prevent you from creating your ten thousand ships with all the... more>> characters who would be willing to kiss the shoes of the great Hero Cale, personally this fascinates me, but I understand that there are people who like protagonists better with an established love interest or a harem at their disposal, be warned)

The truth had left the novel in order that the chapters will accumulate (if I am not mistaken around chapter 600 or more) and when I return I realized something for which my rating is 4 stars instead of 5, and that is that it seems that the author desperately seeks that ALL know the sacrifices that Cale makes for them, I understand that it is normal for this type of information to spread, but I feel that it has reached a somewhat exaggerated point

Spoiler

There is a part where many important people (Kings and representatives of the most important countries of the continent, AKA people that Cale helped enormously more than once and that they idolize) are gathered, one of them asks how Cale is, well By this time he is returning from his unconscious state from being in a kind of parallel world of his life in Korea, and Choi Han proceeds to tell them how Cale is a little more on the verge of death (when he is actually negotiating with 3 dragons more (Parenthesis within parenthesis: I understood that she had two dragons at her disposal, BUT FIVE?))

[collapse]

Anyway, if you read this you should give the novel a try <<less

I'm only 389 chapters into the novel but I wanted to respond to some criticisms of the novel I've seen in other reviews that I've found are false.

  • There are no challenging opponents for Cale.
For like the first 150 chapters Cale doesn't really face any tough opponents, but that's because a) his companions are OP and b) the author is using the first part of the story to establish Cale's personality and abilities rather than having dramatic battles. I think it's important for the author to show how strong Cale and... more>> his companions are in the first part of the story so that when the real opponents show up the readers realize how strong these opponents are. Later in the story there are definitely fights that come down to the wire, and there are also fights that Cale does not win.

  • The story is too predictable because Cale already knows everything.
Again this is only true for the first 100-ish chapters. Cale never finished reading the book series the world is based off of, so he only knows what happens in the first 5 volumes. After the events that occur in the first 5 volumes are done, Cale has to use his intelligence to prepare and fight against his opponents. I don't have a problem with Cale knowing everything in the first part of the story because it gives the readers plenty of time to get to know Cale's personality as well as the personalities of the companions he's picking up. If you want a story that kicks of with action from the first chapter then you shouldn't read this book.

Overall, I'm loving this novel, and some of the recent chapters I've read have kept me on the edge of my seat! 5/5 <<less

If you're the type of person to read for the lovable characters and their dynamics than the story or then this is a good novel for you. It's a good casual read because the words are mostly simple and straightforward. It just lightly digs into the various characters mindset and backstory, and depending on the character these get expounded later on bit by bit.

I love this so so so much T_T Cale is the best MC ever, TCF is the best novel ever in my opinion!!! Sometimes, as the story progressed, novel tends to have its own upside-down kind of flow (aka exciting-boring-exciting again-plotline) BUT I dare to say that this novel would bring nothing but excitement to you. I wonder how can it be this fun in every chapter??? I might be biased so... ANYWAY!!! The best thing about this novel is no romantic subplot, of course. No white lotus females, no... more>> annoying plot filler... ah, heaven. The characters, both males and females, are badass and complete. Every character matters. <<less

This is one of my favorite non-complete-b*llsh*t transmigration stories, it's cliche but at the same time refreshing, because even the usual face slapping isn't deadly st**id and desperately focused on for no reason. Sure to every masterpiece there are flaws, and one of both the advantages and flaws of this novel is that it's long. But I can't understand the people who give it like 1 star after barely reading anything.

Now, this is a novel that you should take your time to read. This novel has parts where you won't... more>> want to stop, but it also has parts where you just want to scroll as fast as possible to get it over with because the author is seriously just making filler and you can't really bother to care about this minor stuff when the story right behind the corner is so many times more intriguing. But you will definitely regret it if you stop too early. This kind of story is the type you should be picking up and putting down several times before suddenly both loving and hating it.

The characters are pretty well written, but because it's so long and spread so throughout it sometimes feels like we don't have enough of some and too much of others, like for example I really hope there will be more story directly with Ron and Beacrox. The character development is also pretty nice and written at a good pace considering the pace of the whole story. Although there is a sh*t load of OP characters that's not necessarily bad precisely because there are so many. Our MC, little tr*shy young master Cale is a failure as tr*sh,

Spoiler

and keeps saying that he won't sacrifice himself but does it every time. He acts like a tsundere sometimes, to be honest. But his reasons (slacker life) and how although he originally does everything to not have a bad conscience and to live in peace is what makes it really interesting as he eventually really starts to care about them all but sometimes even as he acts upon it he doesn't realize it and rather the others due. One of the best things is him being happy that he's tr*sh so he doesn't have to worry about things or him very straightforwardly saying he's tr*sh to which barely anyone believes. But the best thing is that he's not a s*upid little bit*h waiting for everything to happen on its own (completely going with the flow) and acting like a piece of wood or wallflower and actually does shit, this really deserves and is a good example of the #proactive protagonist tag

[collapse]

This novel also has a manhwa adaption, which I totally recommend, and has a gorgeous art style btw, maybe it's because it's adapted more tightly for drawing but the moving pace is much more engaging than the novel. <<less

As usual, Korean novels have less s*upid plot than Japanese isekai but at the same time they have nothing stand out either. They are not one-of-a-kind story, and will get more boring the longer you read. Some idiots said it get better after a few hundreds chapter, but it is only because first few hundred chapters are so boring that makes slightly change stand out. And a novel need a few hundreds chapter just to make readers interests is no where near a good novel, stop with that excuse. I... more>> rate it lower than I thought (around 2.5-3 star) because rating on this website are often inflated. <<less

I love this novel so much. Some may complain abt the MC's scheming. But is he bad person? No. Seriously no. He maybe used many people but he never let them in danger. I love how he used his brain. I'm so amazed. Cale is likable MC (at least for me). I just love how he said he wanted a lazy life but he always encountered problems. He is not OP so he needs many people to help him.

For romance? I don't think it will be necessary. I need novel... more>> who is fully adventure. I'm woman but I love this kind of novel. I read so many novel abt romance and kind of sick with that. Especially when the ML & FL has so many misunderstanding, and end up hurting each other. Ugh so annoying.

Oh yeah, I want to say about other characters. The author never neglected other characters especially they are MC's people. All of them has their own background. Pls be patient.

So for someone who like adventure, fantasy, clever protagonist, no romance, great plot, fantastic schemer, royal friendship. This is great novel to you. <<less

This has to be one of my all time favorites. Having read this far, I have to say I’m enjoying the plot and I’ve found the characters really relatable what with all the flaws that they are shown with.

Another great point is that there’s absolutely no romance so if you hate that kind of stuff you might be able to enjoy it.

I generally don’t like stories with too much action but I have to say this one is a exception.

I've seen many reviews that complain about the slow pacing. Those people drop the story far too early into the novel and don't really know the whole picture. It's offensive because some haven't even read to the double digits or triple digits and they already judge it. The earlier chapters doesn't explain everything, and for a good reason. To explain everything so early in the novel will make the story bland. So read until you reach 200-400 before you actually complain about something.

This is the first novel that I've never... more>> dropped despite reaching chapter 427. Unlike the other novels I've read, not once had I thought to drop this because of the mystery behind the characters and the amazing plot. I'm a lazy reader so the fact that I reached chapter 427 says something.

The MC

Spoiler

He is smart, manipulative, and cunning. In the beginning, he doesn't really show any affection for anyone. He's a bit closed off and manipulates the people around him. There is a good reason for this and the answer is only shown in 300-400 chapters. However, he soon learns how to understand and love the people around him. He learns how to be genuinely kind and affectionate. In a way, this novel has a "found family" kind of vibe that begins with reluctance but ends with acceptance.

I admit that he is OP. He's OP because he gains a lot of powers. He is also really smart (again, there's a reason for this, and the clue is because of his past as Kim Rok Soo). Combining his abilities with his strategies makes him really OP as a character.

But at the same time, he's also the weakest among the group. The people around him are also OP, both his friends and enemies. While he is OP, his mind is his best weapon, not his powers. He only uses his powers when they're in a tough position, and when it involves hundreds of lives. He is physically weak and this makes the stakes higher, especially when he's up against strong enemies. The powers he has with him has consequences and this causes worry and frustration among the group.

His past as Kim Rok Soo is very important. Just because he became Cale Henituse, that doesn't mean his past ends there. If you read on to 300-400 chapters, you'll find out why he became smart and manipulative, and why he seems so calm despite having transmigrated to another world. Again, finding about Kim Rok Soo's past is an important part of the plot.

[collapse]

The plot

Spoiler

The plot does indeed start slow. It only picks up when the antagonists, as well as the main antagonist, shows up. The pacing is okay for me because once it picks up, you'll feel the MC's exhaustion because of the battles after battles he faces. In the early chapters, the author drops a few hints here and there that will become really important in the future chapters. There are a lot of plot twists in this story. It makes the plot exciting and unpredictable, because you don't know what will happen next.

And it's because the MC doesn't know what will happen next, contrary to what most people say about his knowledge of the book. He didn't finish the novel. He died before finishing it. So the complaints about him knowing the "future" doesn't really make sense because his knowledge about the book is limited and because of this, his strategies shine in the story. Just because he read the book doesn't mean he's not smart. After 100-300 chapters, his knowledge about the characters are basically useless.

[collapse]

The characters

Spoiler

There are also complaints about the minor characters becoming boring. Again, read more than the double digits because the minor characters' stories are shown later on in the story. They always come up again in the plot, and they are mostly connected with the enemy.

Everything is connected. The characters and the plot are all connected. This isn't shown early in the story but each character are involved for a reason. And that reason is the main antagonist and the MC.

What I love about the characters is they improve along with the MC. They may be strong in the beginning, but they still develop further in the story.

I've seen reviews that complain that the characters are too OP and that makes the story boring. Again, the characters and their enemies are OP. They may be seen as strong in the beginning, but their enemies are stronger than them.

[collapse]

The antagonists

Spoiler

The antagonists in the beginning are just minor antagonists. They are there to show us that there is a more dangerous enemy in the future. They show us tiny pieces of the main antagonist, clues to who he is. The antagonists later on in the story have a deeper meaning to why they became that way. They aren't just characters anymore. There is a good reason why they are willing to kill people without mercy. There is a good reason why they're crazy. And it's all because of the main antagonist.

The main antagonist doesn't appear until 300-400 chapters. He is always just mentioned as someone who is like a god to the antagonists. And when he appears, he is strong and dangerous. Again, if the MC and the minor characters are strong, the main antagonist is stronger. He is someone who doesn't care about the people around him (for a good reason). He is willing to destroy everything in his path to get what he wants.

[collapse]

So please, read until 200-400 chapters before you judge it. Don't just drop this without knowing more. Don't just judge it without knowing the full story. <<less

Personally, I love this series, but instead of listing everything I like about it, I'll adress the topics in some negative reviews. I doubt me, an individual would convince people by saying it's the greatest thing in the world lol

I don't mean harm to the people that gave negative reviews, because I do agree with some of your points by the way.

Regarding the no romance part, that is honestly completely personal preference. Some people enjoy romance, some people don't. I'm alright with either, but I'm leaning more to the just action type. Also there is a romantic couple, mind you.

. It's all about patience. This series is quite bland at the start, and you feel like dropping it, but once you get to the late parts, it's enough to pull you right back in.

MC contradicting his actions with his words. Again, personal preference. I find this funny, because he talks about living peacefully, but the red-head idiot keeps making trouble for himself. Some people may differ and find this frustrating or annoying, but thats them and not me.

I'm not the best at writing, so I won't be saying anything about it in case I'd say something wrong.

I've only started reading TCF at around december 25th last year, and it already feels like years. This series is absolutely amazing. It feels like I've known the main cast for years, and the emotional ride they took me on was a blast. I'm not someone who cries easily, but I barely managed to stop myself from tearing up from a few chapters. I've laughed along at their charades and also cheer for them.

Give it a chance. As aforementioned, patience is all you need for this series. <<less

This novel is really good, very interesting. Not to compare, or offend anyone or something, but this novel is not the typical adventure-fantasy novel. It isn't a nove with an MC who does things because someone commanded him, NO the MC of this novel makes others do his biddings.

This novel is one of my most favourite novels.

Firstly, the character relationships. No heroine that falls in love with Cale just because he saved them, but instead they develop a friendship and neutral respect for each other most of the time. Secondly, the characters. The characters are really badass and did I mention Rosalyn, Witira and Mary? The characters are all well written, and there isn't a gender difference between the female and the males of the novel. The women of this novel are really independent and strong. I really... more>> like that there's no wimpy and badly written female characters. Third, world building. The world building is complex, but easy to understand. It keeps expanding and showing more interesting stuff, yet its not hard and confusing to follow.

However, as much as I love this novel, there's no denying that it has some flaws.

1. Cale is too OP. Personally, I like his OP-Ness, but it did get a little boring after 550 chapters. I'm sure most people would definitely enjoy Cale for the first 100+ chapters, but it definitely does get that repetitive get stronger, be OP, get stronger, be even more OP vibe. 2. The characters do disappear from time to time. One of the things I hate about long novels is that they always somehow manage to slip away a few characters in the middle and when they're finally back I've already forgotten their name. It's not so serious where I don't remember them, but it is quite annoying. 3. The characters. Despite me saying the characters were good in the part before, the characters are also a big flaw in the story. Even if they are strong and amazing, they don't connect well. Instead of the characters not being good friends, it's kinda like the plot is sliced into a few parts, the side characters are put into groups and each take over a slice of the plot while Cale barely holds them together. They just exist for the purpose of filling out the story, and once they're useless they're thrown away until needed again. I'm sorry if I'm not clear enough.

Despite all I've said, I'd recommend reading it. You can read the first 100 chapters or something and drop it if you don't like it. Sorry for the bad English and have a nice day. <<less

Oh my god. Love this so much.

transmigration novels tend to be a massive trope in online fiction. But this novel is really worth it.

First of all, the characterisation is amazing. I love Cale with all my heart, there's something about the kind-but-pretends-they're-not persona that gets me. Love him.

The rest of the characters are really well written, Choi Han especially. Fiercely protective of Cale, if you, like me, like that kind of thing. The rest of the party fades into the background sometimes, but nothing too major. It's not like the... more>> author can write about all of them at the same time. and made even me, with a tendency to be stoic towards emotion in novels, tear up a little. In case you didn't read the spoilers above, it's an arc in which the MC's character growth can be clearly seen, and it's so satisfying.

Starts off fairly good and the cast is pretty solid but after awhile the story just loses any sense of threat. I think maybe the fake dragon slayer and the half dragon were intimidating, but after that nah, there's nothing. Cale just keeps going keikaku doori except in Korean shut up I don't know how to say that in Korean and gets all the things he wants and everyone loves him for it. And it just gets so repetitive.
