T*ash of the Count’s Family

When I opened my eyes, I was inside a novel.

[The Birth of a Hero].

[The Birth of a Hero] was a novel focused on the adventures of the main character, Choi Han, a high school boy who was transported to a different dimension from Earth, along with the birth of the numerous heroes of the continent.

I became a part of that novel as the tr*sh of the Count’s family, the family that oversaw the territory where the first village that Choi Han visits is located.

The problem is that Choi Han becomes twisted after that village, and everyone in it, is destroyed by assassins.

The bigger problem is the fact that this s*upid tr*sh who I’ve become doesn’t know about what happened in the village and messes with Choi Han, only to get beaten to a pulp.

“…This is going to be a headache.”

I feel like something serious has happened to me.

But it was worth trying to make this my new life.

Definitely a good read and very much different from the majority of novels in which we have a MC who has no desire for strength and instead wishes to remain living a carefree (slacker) life. Though of course, no MC can ever truly avoid trouble as he's constantly pulled into the mire. While he's significantly weaker than those around him, he has a reliable, trustworthy, and strong party that serve as his strength and they more often than not wish that they can do their utmost to support him so... more>> that he can avoid getting hurt in any way. They all care for him deeply and get excessively angry if any harm were to come to him, especially in the case of the little dragon Raon who often says he'd destroy the world if anything happens to Cale. Things progress at a steady pace and there isn't really much to complain about. If I had one thing to complain about, it'd be that as of where I'm at, things feel relatively casual. The element of excitement seems to be lacking as opposed to any other novel I've read before. There's most definitely fighting/battles, but it's kind of mediocre in a way as there's never really any sense of substantial danger. In all, this is a good casual read that's laughter provoking, attention grabbing, and vastly different from many other novels out there. <<less

Hands-down one of the best web novels I've read so far in this genre. It gets predictable sometimes but never fails to move me to tear up sometimes. It's the way that things play out and the motivations behind the characters really. Love it so so so much.

This is the first time I'm ever writing a review on NU but I felt like I had to say something. I absolutely love this novel—it's the very first Korean fantasy novel I've ever read! I truly fell in love with the characters—especially the MC. Plot is kind of slow in the beginning but it gets better as you continue reading!

There are some arcs that I didn't like as much as others, but otherwise, they were refreshing and interesting to read. The story currently has no romance, which is something... more>> I usually dislike but in this case, I appreciate how the readers can choose what they ship on their own!

It's mostly about the MC trying his best to destroy any death flags and manipulating things so he can finally get his slacker life. It's funny how the MC continues to fail throughout the chapters at getting his slacker life and the misunderstandings that occur due to his actions.

Honestly, it's hard to write this without giving away spoilers but it's a great read and I highly recommend it. <<less

I absolutely love this. I dont know about other people, but its really good for me. Well actually this is my fav korean novel. And I hope many people read this. Or at least give it a try. Absolutely wont regret it

The MC is someone who transmigrate into novel and possess the body of a count's tr*sh son, Cale. In the story Cale gonna meet Choi Han, the male protagonist of the novel, then got beaten up to pulp. The new Cale is someone who just wanna live a cozy... more>> slacker life without much trouble and dislike pain (he said). Yet its so funny how things get wrongs (for new Cale's peaceful life goal) just because he doesnt wanna got beaten up by Choi Han

Yeah and just like other novel Cale will have many challenge, fighting enemy, gathering companions etc. But yet they are different. And I rly love these. This is what makes me feel its different than others (ofc its the only one who have these characteristic its just that compare to the general action adventure type korean novel)

  1. This Cale isnt someone ambisious. He doesnt wnt to rule the world or being the number one. His power is more like for self-defense so he can live more peacefully or protect his people
  2. A litle bit tsundere. He said no yet every his actions contradict it (in a good way)
  3. He is strong yet weak. He also hv some power but his brain is more more powerful.
  4. There is no "good brother died as stepping stone so MC can get boost or get stronger" sh*t that I hate the most (at least till now, n I hope it stys that way)
  5. No harem till now. I love how its focus on the building friendship n trust. There is no romance at all here till this chapter
  6. The character developement is amazing. We can see how much Cale has changed and other characters too. Its so satisfying
  7. Side characters are good. They are not just 1D and they can think too. The enemy is a good enemy not some dumb dude
  8. The story focus on Cale. There is no side chapter or filler where the MC is gone or too focus on other character.
And most of all the author's writing. I rly love the way author write this story. I cant explain it well but its just so good. For example :

  1. Just like many this kind of novel there are many history, therms, etc that need to be told to the readers and some time it was just so annoying n confusing with so many names, therms, places. But the author make it somehow easy to understand, not boring n yet its conveyed.
  2. The other thing is sometimes from the describtion you may feel "ah, oh, like that" not rly minding it yet on the chpater you will find it "what so its from the bfr" it makes you throwback to the earlier chapter. The author rly hv ways to make you like every single chapter. There is no thing such empty chapter.
Well yeah there so many more things I like ab this novel but I think its alrdy long enough kwkwkkwk. Try it everyone. You wont regret it <<less

I've never tried a novel without a romance genre so I thought this won't be my cup of tea. BUT boyy I was sooooo wrong. This story is so so intriguing that I read it the whole time. This is the first I've been so satisfied with the MC. The characters have good developments too and MOST of the this doesn't have the cliche plot.

All in all, this is one of my favourite novel. I don't regret that I read this.

it was a good novel at the begining, but got down , MC is a side carachter that supossed got kicked by hero but he change that (changing story) thats fine, he was trying slack off and lazy thats fine too, the hero became his bodyguard thats also fine,

Spoiler

but he gather every ancient power but he doesnt wanna get stronger, he know that his battle/war will be easier if he get stronger but he dont wanna , instead he pushed it to his allies, and then he will somehow save the day by shield, lightfire or water while coughing blood, and he will be remembered being hero while his allies say something like 'i need to get stronger to protect him', he is just egoist+ lazy.

in late chapter he and his allies almost dying but instead try to get stronger he just running around.

he has a change to try understand his ancient power, train his power but he just simply lazy and dont wanna too, and the author try to justifying it by saying his plate was small.

, do you know when you play fps game and using cheat with auto aim, that is how he use his power

i it kinnda make me remember shounen manga that MC kindda s*upid and piss you off

I don't usually leave a review but I just can't help doing it for this novel.

To truly appreciate this novel you have to read it until the latest chapters

The novel might seem like a generic isekai, where the MC transmigrates into a story where he knows the plot and he can prepare for what will happen. But here in this the MC only knows a part of the story and pretty soon it diverges from what he knows.

The MC soon finds out that the story that he knows has a... more>> lot of holes and that things are not what they seem. Pretty soon things escalate.

He soon finds out that his transmigration may have a deeper meaning than what he knows. As well as to the truth about the original protagonists world transfer.

It may also seem like the author isn't developing the characters or just leaving them at the wayside but trust me as you read further in the characters become more developed.

I like how the author made all the cliche in various novels work together to make a wonderful story that just works. <<less

Truly a wonderful piece of novel. I'm not a fond of reading novel because I prefer manga. I hesitated first to read but when I read positive reviews and people are recommending it crazy. I will give it a try!

Some of the twists and reveals are gonna surprise you. You need to read into the first 30 chapters to before you really get invested in.

As the story progress, You will know the true nature of the MC. He's also not your typical hero which definitely gives a refreshing feel while... more>> seeing how he acts and thinks all the time!

Not a stereotypical novel with cliche love story. No harem, no shoujo no romance, no gayness, no yaoi no BL. Best novel ever! You won't regret it.
Spoiler

[MC wants to live a slacker life but ends up in getting dragged in a situation that requires hard work. It's not possible when he's been blessed with many ancient powers and gain a lot of strong comrades.]

Just brilliant. This story just checks all boxes in what makes a good story for me.

As all novels, the early chapters help establish the main character and his personality while slowly introducing other key characters to the story. At first, the MC (Cale) , doesn't seem to thrilled about transported to a fantasy world while he knows trouble awaits for him, however, Cale overcomes this thought with the thought of living an easy, carefree slacker lifestyle. To do this, Cale must alter the story 'slightly' to his favor which causes... more>> many events to change and eventually cause Cale to be dragged into the spotlight as he seems to be the at the center of the story - while he still denies and wishes not to be.

Character design: 5/5

Characters have unique personalities each with their own ambition, goal and motive. We get to know characters and can understand why they would act or react without feeling like it wasn't justified or unnatural, everything that characters do just seem to make sense based on their personalities. An example would be
Spoiler

Beacrox obsession with being clean, as he wears white gloves all the time, becomes naturally angry or irritated with any form of dirtiness.

[collapse]

Story development: 5/5

At first I thought the story just twisted and turned without much thought, however, the amount of foreshadowing and shocks are unbelievable. Many times I was left amazed by revelations I feel like I should've expected. Like a Eureka moment, everything just clicks once you know. For example,
Spoiler

Cale's first ancient power is gluttony, and he feels hungry after using other powers, this is because his power is hungry to consume the other powers.

World development: 5/5

At times, the story makes sure to remind you how it is meant to be set in a fantasy world. Many places have long history and ancient past that give snippets of information and clue's to what the area may contain. Relationships between kingdoms and factions are prevalent and politics will be involved between these factions, however, it is not forced or dull, but just the right amount to make sense and keep the story progressing. Beside the history and lore, even the people and cities are shown to be fantasy like, for example
Spoiler

When Cale's territory hosts a celebration, he mentions how random experts are found in daily activities making you remember how even a random uncle could be a master assassin

Writing quality: 5/5

The writing in this story is amazing. Scenes are excellently portrayed and information is given at just the right amount to let the reader think and understand what will happen without blatantly telling us. Many times has the writing just flew of the screen and made a crystal clear image of whats happening in a scene.

Basically, this novel is just great and should definitely be read by anyone who enjoys Isekai Fantasy books that has the right amount of intelligence, engagement and plot. Can't suggest anymore how amazing this story is, I feel like I can't even do it justice with a review with how many great aspects I've missed. However, take it with a pinch of salt, not everyone will like this story but I can tell you I do and I suggest you give it a try for at least the first 20 chapters. <<less

ONE OF THE BEST

This novel is worth it down to the last chapter till now. There was not even a single chapter where I felt bored or felt like dropping the novel.

Everything that I wanted in a story is here, world building, politics, magic, folklore, amazing plot twists, great characters, cliffhangers to die for and so much more.

I love the way that even though the story revolves around the main character, there are a lot of contributing and interesting characters in the plot. The action and schemes are great... more>> as well, and the face slapping is ever so satisfying.

10/10. Definitely a good read.

I mean, just look at the title page. The title "tr*sh of the count's family", the title page illustration, along with the fact that it is a Korean novel and has a high 4.4 star rating. Imagine what this book will be like from those clues... because it's exactly that. Read it if you want, you pretty much got the overall gist of things anyway.

As of right now, I've caught up to the most recent translation.

The novel isn't that bad. Transmigrating into a game/novel world is an idea that has been done to death by JP authors, but tr*sh of Count's Family manages to stand out from the rest. What's great about this novel is that the MC makes genuine relationships with other people, and characters genuinely respect the MC. Lots of the times in transmigration novels, the MC is like a calculative robot that manipulates the plot and characters to his benefits. While... more>> that isn't bad in itself, sometimes, having a more laid back and relaxed MC is a nice change of pace. Plus, the transmigration bonus wears off pretty soon, which is also nice, since a lot of those novels put the MC at an absolute advantage.

Unlike most novels, where emphasis is on plot, this novel has a fair but of focus on character. Dialogue is aplenty and there is tons of characterization. You get to know the feelings of all the people connected to the MC, and that propels the plot forward to great heights. However, while the novel is great at micro interactions (interactions between main and side characters), the macro interactions and relationships (citizens of a kingdom, politics, relationship between kingdoms, soldiers) are over simplified and are a great detriment to the novel being great.

Let me explain. The novel focuses a lot on character to character relationships, and as a result, oversimplifies the plot. The MC interacts with many sovereigns of large countries, yet you barely get to know anything about the damn country or kingdom. You personally get to know the attitude and personality of the ruler, but barely anything of the actual country itself. That's fine in itself, to be honest. Sometimes, a novel can't do everything, and to sacrifice world building for character building is alright in most cases. However, the plot bites off more than it can chew. Kingdom alliances are heavily emphasized in the novel. Reinforcements/support of a certain kingdom may make or break a battle, politics are mentioned only when convenient for the plot, and as a result, kingdoms actually play a pretty pivotal role in the plot. However, kingdom's act more like as an extension of the ruler, kind of like he/she owns the place like a plaything and can make it do whatever it wants

Plus, tons of battles between kingdom happen in the novel, and in the end, the results are either: an absolute victory, or an absolute loss. It's basically one OP character/thing stomping the other side, whether it just be an OP person, some sort of new technique, or a alchemical product. One side loses literally zero soldiers while the other suffers a massive defeat. It's very idealistic and I really hate it when authors oversimplify a battle into: "a guy with OP powers destroys other side. Hooray!" Why are soldiers in this novel anyway? They don't really matter in the end, apparently. Just make it a duel between the OP characters on both sides in the first place, because that's usually what ends up happening.

In the end, the many kingdoms involved in the novel result in an oversimplification, and in the end, it just feels sort of cheap despite it being important to the plot. Either make the plot simpler, or add world building. Other than that, there are character interactions that keep on getting repeated despite being similar to the time they talked last. Which also kind of gets boring.

Anyways, I know I just said the bad things about the novel, but the characters are, overall, pretty good still, and plot that isn't focused on politics, soldiers, and kingdoms/organizations is still pretty good (which is a good majority). This makes it a solid 4/5. <<less

This is, in my opinion, really good hands down. I have no idea how many times I have re-read this. Mixes of sarcastic humour gifts given by the MC Cale and the loyalty and friendships building between him and his people, this story is awesome. The MC may be overly powerful but that does not mean he has no weakness or character problem.

His character development as well as those who follow him, are really well written. As the challenges and troubles that they came to meet increase, they grow along... more>> and the relationships and trust between them got better.

There are criticisms of this novel and they are understandable. The story might be long-winded at some occasions where the specific timing in that arc had a plot that was somewhat the same as a previous arc, and it gets boring with all the political stuff happening between as well, but there are reasons behind those portions. I still do enjoy reading this novel. The author has done their best in creating this work and it was quite a smooth read. The novel does not cut corners and as you read along the way, it will eventually answer any questions or plot twists that happened in the earlier chapters.

Do give this novel a try :) I really recommend it! <<less

Sweet jesus this novel is exhausting. It was a great read when I first started but I'd say by chapters 300 or 400 I've became exhausted of it. It's even more tiring knowing that it's on a brief hiatus as of the month of July, 2020, in the middle of our pandemic hell.

Anyway, the stories are fine, but it has a tendency to have the heroes barely beating the evil, for the evil to escape only to come back stronger, and then the heroes had to barely etch out another... more>> victory. The relentless pace is exhausting. It feels like the arcs never really have a chance to calm down and for everyone to have fun before the heroes are tossed into another hell.

If you are ready to be exhausted reading a pretty good story, this is your bag, but if you just want to relax, read something else. <<less
