I really like how this novels been progressing so far. The MC is not arrogant, but he has a certain panache when it comes to dealing with his enemies. We are following his journey from his really shitty background (pretty much a jungle) to his rise in the world of cultivation. The antagonists are not competely s*upid. They maintain a rather realistic sense of pride as human beings, not being afraid to admit that their talent is lower than the MCs. His personality is aboslutely magnetic, drawing... more>> in many people with his charisma and reputation alone. I can't wait to see how the journey continues. There are a lot of things not mentioned such as his parents, his sister's background, just anything about that summary, so the potential is definitely there. I definitely recommend this to anyone who likes ATG, ISSTH and other similar titles. <<less

This is a novel that caught me by surprise. When it first started noone heard of it. Then I started reading it and I couldn't stop. I just love this story and how it builds up. For me it seems different compared to other xianxia stories, but I dont know why. This was like a breath of fresh air. Also the translators busted out chapters like ive neva seen before. I still dream about the christmas releases. I can count on my hand the novels I truly look forward to... more>> and this is one of them. <<less

Amazing, slow start, I will be honest I dropped it but I picked it back up and now can't wait for the two chapters a day which I think is amazing and the translator is doing a brilliant job.

Now my favourite on going novel and it seems to only be getting better.

MC is generally a nice person but isn't a saint so he doesn't overlook those who wrong him. At the same time he isn't so ruthless to destroy everything the person he has conflicts with has without looking back.

Although he has a cheat (something I actually very much enjoy like in WDQK or MGS) it doesn't automatically turn him into an OP protagonist for possessing it. MC has high perception which can explain him being able to obtain things faster but at the same time he still has... more>> to work hard for things because he is in noway a super genius or anything.

Characters in the novel are dynamic and personality traits don't repeat over and over. 'Villains' don't just toss cliche lines and every person isn't just there to curry favors with the MC. Other characters have there own lives and stories that are made clear so even though the MC is the focus it is interesting to see about others as well.

The only downside is the development is slow but even with that I wouldn't really cal it a downside since there isn't any wasted chapters. The only true downside is the fact that the novel and the translations are on the same chapters, so even though the translations are fast don't expect to binge read the entire novel anytime soon :P <<less

this is so f*cking awesome novel. Great development and I could say that this novel is different with other xianxia novel that you can predict what will happen.. MC here is not only focusing on strength but also using his mind. You can say that the story is slow but it's still make you addicted.I dun care if others dont like it but I really love it. For my list, this is second to issth with great character and story development.

He's not the usual arrogant MC and the way his improvements show are very detailed. And opponents are not the usual dumbass like in other stories. Well, maybe except for a select outliers. MC is quite intelligent too. All in all, It is a very satisfying read.

The without a doubt most well built up personality I have read about. Slow start and I dropped it pretty early before revisiting only to get addicted. A horrendous amount of repetition at unnecessary times, but this also gives a very good grasp on all changes. I feel that it's a lacking in describing the surroundings, which can be annoying at when it would be nice to understand the playground at critical junctures. Got a hard on when I finished the series and saw how intense the updates had been... more>> previously, until I saw the translators had caught up with the author. One of the few rare novels that I can say confidently that it has everything you need in perfect quantity with great quality. Great humor, great battles, very good reasoning, great character development. It doesn't have that excessive bullying that gets annoying, it also doesn't have that excessive arrogance that you get fed up with and stuff never repeats like most xianxia novels tend to do, and the writing itself is very good (and the translation, god bless). This should be the number one novel and clearly deserves much more... more>> attention. The MC is quite refreshing and the novel is very addictive. Even the very few novels that could probably compete with it in my eyes such as desolate era, pale just a bit before it. <<less

I’m extremely happy that this novel is getting more attention these days. ??

It’s a good novel that deserves as much attention as issth.

Slow but brilliant development, smart MC, no stereotypical antagonists, amazing word building, and extremely few plotholes. I love it and the summary doesn’t do it justice.

Yi Yun is awesome. So glad his actions make sense... ?

Rating is five as of 229. ??

One of the most underrated novels here, god bless it got more attention in the past days..

Although the summary seems ordinary, the story is really unique. The slow paced, but really developed and good story got me hooked, this was the first novel where I skipped sleeping to read further. There is this constant feeling where you want to know what will happen, how their situation will change etc.

Has a similarity with ISSTH, the MC's are both smart, not like the brainless MCs that only have KILL in their mind.... more>> He knows when to back up, treasures his family and friends but does not show mercy to his enemies. Try it out, it's defenitly worth the time! <<less

@chapter 204

It’s not reincarnation I think because the MC didn’t die in his previous world just got trapped in cave and got an awesome purple card and use it to get out in cave. When he got out of the cave he became a kid w/ same name as him. The purple card will be the key for him to become strong.

It was a good series, it’s not the same as the most novel that got so many c*cky/arrogant people appear frequently and want to kill the MC but they... more>> were the one who died in the end. Well it’s not I hated that kind of novel tho.

The MC is smart not arrogant at all, even tho it’s not that fast paced atm because it was still on-going and the translator will catch up to the raws I think. I will recommend it to you guys to read it. It won’t waste your time ^^

I gave it 5/5 atm. <<less

Review as of Ch190. Thus far it’s well written (kudos to the translators) and decently paced. The first arc is a decent “you’ll pay for this” story with a satisfying payoff at the end, which is a relief since it’s 130+ chapters by itself. Some might feel it’s too long but at least the chapters has something happening with dialogue and interaction with other characters, and not just endless sections of the MC discovering by himself this treasure or that lucky event that is commonly seen in other novels. The... more>> second arc (135 onwards) involves the usual “MC goes into new place, shocks people who looked down on him, starts powering up” phase, so it’s still too early to tell whether the story would improve here on. At least there isn’t a harem involved (yet).

On a side note, as of Ch.228 the translation is so fast that it has actually caught up with the raws, and due to its popularity and support you can expect regular translations. <<less

Nice MC, smart villain, good world building last but not least detailed MC's techniques which is in xianxa story usually too much nonsense or too profound (too hard to make an image in the head)

edit: I should have realized that this novel is just another chinese web novel.

Ok this story got really awesome about 80 chapters in, it was good before but it felt more like a long intro to the world, power systems and social norms I guess. It wasn't boring there was a good progression and a villain that was actually a challenge to the MC. I'm 159 chapters in and I love the expansion of this story from the world building to the martial arts. Definitely recommend 5/5.

current chapter 157

going in to this novel I wasn’t expecting much. I had heard good reviews from the forums but I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I enjoy it.

This xianxia follows the travel of Yi Yun, who finds a divine treasure (on earth) and is transported to a world of martial arts. We learn the world Yi Yun is in as he learns.

What I like about this novel is the fact that people know that the place they are currently residing in is not some high... more>> realm, instead they are vary of the fact that through martial arts they can climb to the top of the world but the top is still very far away.

The characters are also great. Yi Yun as a character is smart, he understands where his strength lies and when he should fight and when he shouldn’t. The other characters we are introduced to is a potential love interest (which seems pretty obvious she is going to be his girl friend) and the MC is sister. I like the love interest, so far she is much better than the other dense girls we are shown in xianxias. We know a little about her but we have not been given her life story, only a little problem she goes through. But I predict we will get to know more about the love interest as the story goes on. So yes there will be romance in the future (by the way it looks, they may just stay friends, but I highly they won’t become a couple). As for the third major character, the mc’s (step) sister she is an amazing big sister with a mysterious past. We are told bits and pieces about her, but just like the MC love interest we will find out more about her as the MC gains power.

As for the villains we have been introduced to (which is only 1 major villain currently) he is a great villain. One of the very few villains in a xianxia that I have somewhat sympathized with, I understand his pain and why he does the things he does. Even though they are not good things.

The pacing of the story is good. I read some reviews that say that the pacing is bad, which is not really true. The story moves along fast, but what keeps the audience reading for a little longer is the explanations. Which I don’t really mind I rather have a good explanation of things than going “huh? Wait, what happened there”.

The best thing about this novel is the translation speed. The translators translate really fast they don’t have a set amount of chapters they translate per day but sometimes it can 5 or 3 maybe even higher than that. So big props to them.

Conclusion: This novel is a great read, something everyone of the xianxia fan base should give at least a try. It may have the format of normal xianxias but the story and characters are much better than the average xianxia. <<less

True Martial World is a very satisfying read. The pace is a bit slow, but the plot is consistently going forward instead of circling back-and-forth. Not many needless fights here, although the MC isn't someone who hid his strength and doesn't avoid battle when necessary. There are cliches like finding lucky item or fortuitous meeting, but the MC himself is clearly working hard with his mind and physique to survive, be stronger, and gain better standing in the new world. What's still lacking is... more>> character development for supporting characters, and some plot twists or hooks to make the story more memorable. So far though, without all that, it's already good enough. <<less

Most of the reviews are from people drawing conclusions from the first few hundred chapters, so I'll add my perspective in having read a bit further. First of all: yes, the author never calms down with daisy-chaining tournament arcs. If you don't like tournament arcs and time-limited challenges and secret realms don't read this novel. The rest of this review will probably only make sense if you've previously read Martial World.

Second: a lot of plot points are retreading stuff from the original Martial World. The Azure Yang Lord is basically... more>> Yi Yun's Empyrean Primordius and the main love interest, Lin Xintong is basically Mu Qianyu and Qin Xingxuan rolled into one character (probably for the better because in MW Lin Ming went through wives like tissue paper). The Sinkhole is basically the Eternal Demon Abyss from MW by another name, though it's handled a bit better in that it's introduced from very early on and not just pulled out of thin air to make a "endgame area" like the Eternal Demon Abyss was. Remember the bits in the Seven Profound Martial House where Lin Ming uses the arrays to temper his body and all that, and it's mentioned that he's stronger than others of his level because he doesn't miss any spot while tempering? Yeah, Yi Yun does it too. Or remember when he uses the Magic Cube to seal the Azure Dragon blood within his body and fuse with it even without a technique? Yi Yun does it too with the purple card - which doesn't even make sense because Lin Ming could only do it because of Mo Eversnow's soul helping him and that's what the Grandmist Spirit Bead is supposed to do, but apparently bloodline is a type of "energy". For that matter I think he also uses it to control spiritual energy/souls a few times which is supposed to be the Magic Cube's gimmick. Ling Ming goes to a clan organized around God Beast bloodline upon ascending to the divine realm, then quickly becomes the #1 disciple upon getting a generous gift of phoenix blood. Yi Yun does it too. Or remember how the Primordius martial intent was a huge deal in early MW?
Spoiler

Yi Yun gets one of Lin Ming's Asura Scripture techniques for that role.

[collapse]

Another issue this novel has compared to MW is that in MW the concept of there being different universes was introduced later on, when Lin Ming was already one of the top talents in the Divine Realm, so he had been steadily climbing in status for most of the novel. This spared the audience from having to read one thousand scenes of the local peanut gallery saying Lin Ming is probably an idiot tr*sh overestimating himself or a toad trying to eat swan meat etc etc. There is no such thing in TMW and, counting the lower realms, Yi Yun has been shuttled through universes THRICE at the spot I'm at. It feels like every other chapter is Local Young Master Y going on a multi-paragraph rant on how Yi Yun is delusional or s*upid for thinking he can do X thing when even the peerless heavenly geniuses of (current location) can only do (shittier version of X), then pre-emptively gloating about how they're going to do X and humilliate and cripple Yi Yun. Then you turn the page into chapter 24256: Yi Yun does X the Best Anyone's Ever Done it And All the Womenfolk get their pu*sy Wet, followed by chapter 24257: The Death of Local Young Master Y.

Also, early on, Yi Yun is still recognizably a person from Earth and has a few humanizing traits like him being far less okay with mu*dering people than the natives to the Tian Yuan World, being a foodie etc. This is a good way to make him a bit goofy without making him come across as a spoiled brat. These all get shoved aside the moment the Azure Yang Lord's inheritance comes into play if not earlier, but he's still knocking out people with bricks hundreds of chapters after it's stopped being in-character or remotely charming.

edit: I've continued reading this novel (I was around 1200 when I first posted, now I'm at 1680) and yeah, it doesn't get better. I would almost drop it to 2 stars. There's literally 30 chapters left and we're still doing routine face-slapping. He's gotten shuttled through universes even MORE times. By my count:

  1. Tian Yuan World
  2. Ten Thousand Fey Empyrean Heaven
  3. Yang God Empyrean Heaven
  4. Sinkhole (he goes to multiple continents within the sinkhole which leads to the same repetitive plotlines 2-3 times over but I'm not counting them to remain fair)
  5. Ancient Battlefield (a small universe within the Sinkhole where he goes basically to get Lin Ming's inheritance, also, while inside the Ancient Battlefield he goes somewhere else called the Primeval Universe but I'm not counting it because it's basically just a secret realm, even though it's called a self-contained universe)
  6. Chaos Heavens (in here, the plotline happens twice: once when he's stranded and is conscripted into a mining company, and again when he settles into a world where his sister randomly landed at after he left the original universe he was in)
*Every time* he switches universes the same plotline of people thinking that he's tr*sh hiding his true age, then them figuring out that Yi Yun is actually as young as he looks but still thinking he's tr*sh or at least weaker than Young Master Y, then Yi Yun doing some public amazing act of alchemy/refining so people think that he's talented in refining but weaker than Young Master Y, then he kills some random fodder so people have to admit he's at the level of Young Master Y, then he beats Young Master Y but people think he's only strong compared to the junior generation, but them he also beats Young Master's Y's master so people have to admit he's very strong but still think he can't possibly beat Young Master Y's master's master's etc. Until finally he breaks through to a new major realm, people accept he's stronger than everyone else and he switches universes. EVERY TIME. The only universe where this didn't happen in exactly this way was the Tian Yuan world, and only because he becomes the strongest person there very early on so instead of Young Master Y and his extended family he's mostly fighting some demon god guy.

And supposedly he's still going to ANOTHER universe where some Celestial race exists to beat up the main villain. Who hasn't had a single speaking line, backstory or done much for the past 1600 chapters, by the way, but we're reminded over and over that he's the main villain because he's the strongest being in the universe and wants to kill Yi Yun for vague reasons relating to him getting Lin Ming's inheritance. And it's in the exact chapter I'm at that he's finally getting off his ass to try and do something to Yi Yun, but again there's 30 chapters left so no suspense that Yi Yun is going to break through again and go beat him up within an afternoon's worth of reading. I have been spoiled that *somehow* he gets the Magic Cube and Grandmist Spirit Bead within these 30 chapters, and actually more like 20 not counting the actual fight, since the last couple are an epilogue.

Also within the last couple hundred chapters Yi Yun starts to LOVE enslaving people. He ens*aves an entire sect within the Sinkhole and becomes its sect master. Basically every new ally he gets from that point forward with counted exception is some guy that he slaps a s*ave seal over. At one point he rescues some random ass catgirl who happens to know where the latest inheritance is from being ens*aved by Local Young Master Y (the one in the mining company, who's also a Spiritas from MW by the way because god forbid the author come up with any new ideas at this pagecount) but then he gets angry with the catgirl because she doesn't immediately grovel to him, so he decides that he's actually not rescuing her and instead gives her the choice of mu*dering her or taking a s*ave seal. The catgirl is a maidservant to the latest arc's Local Young Master, who Yi Yun of course ends up killing IN FRONT OF THE CATGIRL and the catgirl just decides she's alright with that and willingly stays Yi Yun's s*ave. Also, there's some really grisly descriptions of Yi Yun beating women to death in these chapters; it makes me wonder if the author had a bad breakup and was taking it out on fictional girls.

Also, remember how Lin Xintong was Yi Yun's only love interest? I don't think she's spoken in the last hundred chapters. She's basically there as Yi Yun's muscle to beat up people he doesn't want to bother with. And not to psychoanalyze the author too much, but since she practices the Grand Reincarnation art from MW by this point, we're repeatedly reminded she looks 15-16 if not younger while Yi Yun looks to be in his 20s. Like damn. I expect some misogyny in cultivation novels but it looks like Coccooned Cow just started hating women at the end of TMW.

I'm now certain in saying this: don't read this. It's alright as a fast food xianxia novel but nowhere as good as Martial World. It's like a novel comprised 90% of the bad parts of Nine Star Hegemon Body Art (and I suspect this was a major inspiration for NSHBA). <<less

Boring.

Reading this novel is tedious and frustrating. The author uses so much filler and word padding to drag plot points. If not for that, this novel would be half the number of chapters it is. The battles in this novel are one-third the crowd's reaction, one-third useless explanation of why a character's technique is so powerful and awesome, and one-third enemies taunting the MC with MAYBE a little action. A fight will drag on for several chapters with the crowd all talking about why the MC is r*t**ded (the author... more>> loves this word) and why he's going to lose, which then proceeds to the MC easily beating his opponents and the crowd being amazed at how strong this little hill billy without a background is, then repeat that for almost every other battle.

I have VERY few expectations when reading a cultivation novel. Keep me entertained and I'll eat up whatever garbage you're cooking, just don't make it so boring. If you've read Martial World first, there's no point in reading this because they're essentially the same thing, except this is much worse.

I could write an essay on the bad quality of this novel, but most reviews already give a criticism on that. My main issue is with how boring it is. It lacks entertainment value that at least most bad cultivation novels can give you. The MC is a boring cardboard. Side characters are boring and quickly forgotten, existing only to prompt up the MC. Cultivation is boring - meaningless numbers and scales. Everything is one-dimensional and extremely predictable. It's an inferior version of Martial World, which I rather enjoyed for the most part. I guess the author couldn't separate himself from his prior work. <<less

Hmm, I already noticed it but this author has an annoying way of upping the scales. They will spend a lot of time introducing a place, the factions, new techniques and power levels. From there, as a reader you are expectant, hoping to see MC slowly go up in ranks but then a crisis or event happens and suddenly everything changes. Then everything we knew before doesn't really hold value and we go back to square one somewhere else.

Spoiler

We started with MC being in the Cloud wilderness inside a small tribe. From there we learn than this tribe is among hundreds others under one big clan. And then that one clan is among thousands of other clans all inside that small part of the Empire. So the expectations are that MC will go through many challenges and obstacles to go from a small tribe to maybe a bigger one, then join a clan and then go up. Nope, we went straight to the Empire army, the Jin Long Wei. He joined them and went to a big large city, based on the description. As soon as he arrived there we got introduced to the various levels or Lord, Duke, Marquis, etc. So you know that he has the rank inside the Jin Long Wei to climb as well as the ranks within the Empire's nobility. But no, 2 chapters later it was time to go to the Divine Fortress. We then learn that that big city was in fact in a very average province and it wasn't even that big of a deal. Like we didn't even get to enjoy anything there but we got thrown into another bigger city. There again, there are various factions and strong people but what do you know? MC goes straight to meeting the elders (yeah sure it took a couple of chapters but still). Finally we learn about the Divine Wilderness which is so big that no one knows what's inside. Powerful beasts, tribes and entities. You can imagine the thrilling adventures and stuff for MC to do right? MC finally got a chance to explore it once, got a couple of power-up and as soon as he came back, a new crisis with the introduction of a new race. Now we have that very powerful race that came out of nowhere before MC even got the chance to enjoy the benefit of his first trip outside. And what do you know? Now a powerful family enters the game and we don't know where to situate ourselves anymore. From there MC then goes to a new land that's again bigger, wilder, everything-ER. We learn about like a couple of families there, we didn't even explore the new land that MC got to enter a mystic realm. Again inside the realm we can see that there are various levels and opportunities. But what do you know? Author felt like things were going too well and yet again another powerful entity and another race.

See the problem? You have expectations at the beginning of each arc but after 2 battles, something unexpected happens and we are thrown somewhere else. And every time MC has to start from the bottom, get despised and has to show off. Every single time. And before he even reaches the top there he is already sent somewhere else. Such a freaking c*ck bloc !
[collapse]

I feel conflicted because I like the story, at least the way it's told but I'm getting annoyed slowly. I've rarely read such a well written but weirdly paced story. I feel like author is taking their time but also rushing, it's a weird feeling and I don't like that. This is a weak to strong story so what's the point if before MC gets to be admired by all in a place he is suddenly thrown in another place where he is again the weakest? I'll keep reading but I'll also start to skip annoying chapters. <<less

How good is this novel?? Extremely good

Is it a masterpiece? Definitely!

From the first chapter to the finale every page was like an emotional rollercoaster.. it was that good.

... more>> You would really appreciate the novel if you started with Martial World.

When Yi Yun met Divine Dream, I just knew I would soon hear about my boy Lin Ming.

I always complained about novels that made the MC meet fairies and young masters that were arrogant but TMW made it so interesting... Having only one woman he loved was the best thing the author did in my opinion and it paid off.

Can't really decide who I like most in Lin Ming and Yi Yun anymore😮‍💨

If you haven't read it you've got to. 5 stars🔥 <<less
